The taste and smell of the meal defied belief! £31 shovelled unceremoniously into the waste bin. Never again do I wish to experience this.

You know exactly where I'm coming from when I say that when you find a decent Chinese you're committed for life. Swallow Cottage is mine. Not only is the food exactly as good as you expect it to be, the people there are so lovely it's a legit joy to step foot through the door. The woman who works there, in fact, is the only individual who has ever refused a tip from me: "No, no no - if you enjoy the food, you come back. That's enough." If you can name three places who've ever hit you with that I'll buy you a meal. I live on a boat so I get around. But whether I'm just outside of Harborough or on the outskirts of Cov, unless I'm over an hour away I will go well out of my way to come here. Wonderful people. Edit: for whatever it's worth I'm a chef by trade, so if I eat from the same place twice it's no small thing - but the Satay Chicken is to die for. You can take that to the bank.

Always had nothing but fantastic food. The odd time I have had to wait a little bit longer than I’d like, but apart from that it’s well worth the weight fantastic food, good prices, very friendly people

I’m not sure what has happened here but the takeaway I collected last week was very disappointing. The pancake rolls were very soggy with no crunch and their contents tasted old. The king prawn balls had a decidedly funky/ fishy smell and this was also true of the pancake rolls, perhaps it was old oil they were cooked in? The chips were triple cooked ( but not in a good way! ) dry and too crispy to eat. Also the curry sauce lacked any flavour whatsoever. Roast pork fried rice was ok though. In future I’ll stick with the one on Kingsley Front in Northampton.

I was so disappointed in my takeaway tonight. Swallow cottage have always been my favourite Chinese takeaway in Market Harborough but today the food wasn’t anywhere near what it normally is. Noodles soggy and bland. House special fried rice was lacking in content and the rice was claggy. Mini pancake rolls seemed to be missing the filling. This was after a 65 minute wait at home and a further 15 minutes being ignored when I arrived to collect the order.

Generous with the beef in my beef chowmain, tasted nice and yeah. Bit pricey but overall good

The prices have been creaping up over the past year so we don't eat here as often as we used to; but the food is still excellent, the service fantastic. Always better to call ahead so you're not waiting.

Picked an order up 20 minutes ago threw it in the bin 15 minutes ago. Order of HK style chicken, chicken chow mein and egg fried rice. Chow mein simply tasted of raw noodles lacked taste and seasoning, HK chicken was a battered fillet sliced and soaked in sweet and sour leaving a rubbery batter slipping off the chicken and sauce that was more acid than anything else. Egg fried rice was OK. Last time I came it was OK not the best around but a good option, lost my business forever with this order though

Not good, I could write a long review but not going to bother. I really would not go to this Chinese. Worst Chinese I’ve had in 20 years. I was shocked myself

Our favourite Chinese takeaway during the last 18 months, consistently good. Can have long (socially distanced) queue Friday or Saturday which gives you an idea of the quality. Always a friendly welcome.

Phoned for a takeaway at 7:20pm and told it would be ready at 8pm. Arrived just before 8pm and they was about 8 people waiting who were all very irate. Despite everyone ringing in with takeaway orders some people had still been waiting over an hour. People started walking out without their orders. I finally got my takeaway order which I was told would be ready at 8pm at nearly 8:45pm. It was sooooo bad. If it wasn’t for everywhere being busy and trying to get in someone else then we would have walked out long before. EXCEPTIONALLY SLOW TAKEAWAY SERVICE. Shockingly bad. Don’t keep taking phone orders if you can’t handle what you already have. The takeaway doesn’t take cards either - cash only. Tax dodging heaven

It's ok, not the greatest chinese in town and nowhere near as nice as it used to be.

Well what a let Down placed my order by phone and was told it would be ready for 9pm had to wait until 9.45. The curry had no taste to it the pork ribs and spring rolls was dry and over done most of it ended up in the bin. Use to be the best take away in Harborough years ago under the last owners ping I'm not going there again.

Well this was the worst ever. Placed a order over the phone they said be ready for 9pm about 1hr that was ok but when I got there had to wait another 40mins. And the food was not very nice the beef curry had no taste to it the pork ribs was over done and dry the spring rolls again over done the pawn toast was dripping fat. And the place looked dirty. I’ve been going there for years and always been happy but not anymore and that’s the last time I’ll be going there.

Waited at least 20 mins at the desk to give my order while I was told “in a minute” several times. In this time every time a phone order rang the lady taking orders rushed out of the kitchen answered the phone took down the order told me “in a minute” and rushed back into the kitchen. She was extremely rude! Other customers waiting inside went outside the door to phone their order through as we just weren’t being served! Why on earth ignore customers waiting right in front of you and giving phone orders priority. We were expecting it to be fairly busy but other customers we saying they’d waiting 1 1/2 hours from ringing the order through! We ended up walking out going elsewhere and definitely won’t be returning.

Sadly this takeaway has continued to go down hill since Ping moved on. Spent £70 and got stale prawn crackers, awful prawn toasts and mediocre main dishes. We also discovered after getting home that they 'forgot' to put the half duck in too and had to go back to fetch it. We won't be back.

Menu online a mile out from actual prices, ordered meal for 3 online menu on their website £24.80 arrived to pickup £38.50!!! Not willing to honour price advertised. Shocked!!! You can’t run a business with this pricing model without damaging your customer base & loyalty. Last time for me. Food was ok.

Very disappointing compared to what it used to be like. Totally gone down hill in my estimation Chinese chicken curry was very watery no curry in it. BBQ ribs dry and tasteless . Chowmain dishes we're stodgy and mushy . Really disappointing and won't be going back. "Going to Abbey cottage next timetime".........

Great Chinese take away. Good service and quality food. We are vegetarian and there are quite a few options and the owners often will do additional dishes such as beancurd on request. Would recommend.

Always come here, the foods great and reasonably priced with great service. A really good selection on the menu and very helpful staff. Favourites include BBQ ribs, chilli n salt beef, crispy sheaded beef, superb noodles. We regulalry have a family night feast and everyone enjoys something from the menu from my five year old right through to my 'lovely' (high mainetnenance) wife. :-)

I think swallow cottage has changed ownership because they used to be easily the best in Harborough and consistent! Last visit was not good at all. Food tasted old and the prawn crackers were soft and nasty. Let down :(. Will go elsewhere from now on. There are no tables to sit and eat at here so watch out for the fake reviews mentioning getting a table. This is a take away.

Used to like this place but now it has new owners and I think it's gone down hill. The food was cold and had to complain but struggled to understand what i was saying due to the language barrier. I have gave them another visit recently to see if things had improved and they hadn't, there is 2 kids running around in the kitchen shouting and screaming, personally i think this wrong due to health and safety and hygiene issues.

The best chinese restaurant in market harborough been using it for about 6-7 years i think the food is amazing and everything i mean everything is cooked to perfection i woupd recommend everything on the menu !!!

Good Chinese takeaway, clean, very busy at weekends, food always same good quality. easy parking. Many similar have sprouted up nearby, competition is fierce therefore quality is the only thing that keeps them leader of the pack.

Fetch it yourself guys as there is no delivery service but i think you will feel it worth it. lovely lady front of house, and food fresh and flavoursome. and i dont seem to suffer with MSG thirst after either. give them a try, smashing!!!

Ordenados aquí muchas veces y la comida siempre fue excelente. La señora en el mostrador es muy agradable y amable. Probado otros lugares chino en la ciudad y este es el mejor chino para llevar.

Realmente disfrutamos de la comida que tuve era arroz frito con pollo al curry y carne triturada, crujientes!

Pedimos 6 platos diferentes. Todo bueno y el servicio amable. Me gustaron los 6 tortitas por £2. Volveremos.

We use this as our regular. Great price and delicious. Always greeted with a friendly face.Would be great of they branched it and did delivery too for those nights that you want to be really lazy.

First impression is like most Chinese take aways, Big counter,cheap laminated menu stapled to the counter the TV on in corner and a a few old magazines on a table. The typical serving hatch by which your order is shouted. Might have been ok in the 1980s but time has moved on short of the fish tank with a couple of goldfish in, its a classic takeaway. Food again is nothing more than standard with most dishes made up mostly of green peppers and not much more. Yes its ok and right next to a busy bar and night club, During the week at early doors you can get some good food but quality quickley drops off around weekend. Something which is a common problem in the town with Take aways. To be honest its dated and the town could do a lot better.

Tried swallow cottage as wasnt impressed with our other local takeaway. Menu is good lots of choice. Prices decent food was tasty and only had half hour wait. Now will be our regular Chinese

A quintessential Chinese take-away - a small seating for ordering/waiting with all business done out the back. Menu very extensive and mostly cooked adequately - inconsistent as occasionally superb. Staff fast and reasonably efficient. If Top Wok wasn't around this would be the best Chinese takeaway in Market Harborough.
