Having been a staple of authentic Italian cuisine for 35 years in Penarth, I was eager to experience Villa Napoli, but sadly, my visit fell short of expectations. Upon arriving for an early evening meal at 5:30 we had to wait to be seated, I was immediately drawn to the cozy ambiance that reflects its long-standing history. However, the excitement quickly faded due to painfully slow service. It took an unacceptably long time for our orders to be taken, and drinks were painfully slow. The menu, while limited it presented some enticing options, though I found the prices to be quite steep. No children's menu was a great disappointment. Starters ranged from £8 to £9, and I must admit, the garlic bread was a huge disappointment, far from the flavorful experience one would expect from an Italian restaurant. With a beautiful pizza oven that could be seen much better could be produced. The pizza was one of the highlights, with a well-made dough, but it lacked the generous toppings that could have elevated the dish. For £18, I expected more from the pasta as well; it felt overpriced for what was served. The wine selection was another letdown, with a 250ml glass priced at £10 and a bottle at £29, leaving little room for a budget-friendly pairing. Desserts were uninspiring and seemed to lack creativity, which was surprising for a restaurant with such a rich heritage. The absence of old personal touches, such as offering Italian breadsticks or even roses for the ladies, was notable and contributed to the overall feeling of decline. In summary, Villa Napoli, despite its long-standing reputation, has unfortunately gone downhill. With slow service, overpriced and disappointing dishes, and a lack of personal touches, I left feeling underwhelmed. It’s a shame, as I had high hopes for a memorable Italian dining experience.

Visited here the first time with wife and friends all who had been before. Was impressed. Friendly welcome and courteous staff, quite big on the inside. I had steak cooked perfect while my friend had a pizza, the girls had the hake meal which looked and tasted fantastic. Drinks ok, wanted ale and had to have bottled doombar as none on draught. Drinks and food about correctly priced for this type of establishment. Will be going back for a second visit as lots of choice on the menu I'd like to try.

A Real Shame – Great Coffee, Awful Staff It’s an absolute shame that Coffee #1 serves such high-quality coffee because the experience is completely ruined by the rude, miserable staff. The place itself is somewhat clean, but the service is consistently terrible. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve been met with the same gloomy, unfriendly faces—it always seems to be the same women working there, and they clearly have no interest in making customers feel welcome. As someone who works in a café myself, I understand how demanding the job can be, but that’s no excuse to be so rude—especially when people are paying premium prices for their drinks. The worst experience I had was when my group simply moved a few chairs so we could all sit together, only to be snapped at and told to move them back. This happened multiple times, making us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued customers. I won’t be returning to Coffee #1—no matter how good the coffee is, the service completely ruins it. If you’re paying top prices, you should at least expect basic courtesy, but apparently, that’s too much to ask here. Avoid it unless you enjoy being treated like a nuisance.
