Really quite revolting - just ordered from here via Uber eats, driver was very fast so this is purely reflective of the quality. So greasy, and inedible. When I called, there was no attempt to rectify any of it.

Last Experienced(Updated): I am so happy because I love both their delicious food and their great behavior!

I have been coming to this fish and chip shop for 30 years , are they under new management as the food is now awful ! Soggy chips . Soggy cod , sausage in batter soggy and tasteless , saveloy poor quality

Good quality fish always and chips good. Among best around. Found difficult to have conversation as the loud chatter of the staff behind the bar was very loud and made it difficult to carry on normal conversation in the resteraunt.

Chips and cheese was covered in a wrapping so cheese was stuck to paper. Not edible. Gravy was powdered gravy made with too much water making it the consistency of a glass of coloured water. Not edible. Pie was heated in the micro for too long so was rock solid. Not edible. Called them to complain and they said the food was bad because they're under new management. When I asked why are they still charging premium rates (£1.65 for a small tub of powdered gravy) when they know the food is bad, he laughed and said to call deliveroo for a refund and that was it. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Fantastic restaurant. Haddock & chips, mushy peas, gherkin and coke. Waited 20 mins for eat in but that is because it is cooked fresh to order. Highly recommend.👍 Oh and very friendly staff.👍👍

I've been around a while and grew up near the coast so I definitely know good fish and chips.🍽 I'd say this is the best I've tasted. Fresh good quality fish underneath the batter, well cooked, good value and they're really friendly too. Much better than getting some rubbish from the supermarket or McDonalds, just go here instead!

For the second time in a row I’ve been given different food to what I ordered. I’m a vegetarian and wanted the cheese and onion pasty, but I got a sausage roll!! 😢 Didn’t realise until I got home.

The service was good but I paid a ridiculous amount to sit down and have chicken and mushroom pie , large chips and baked beans . The cost was £9.40!!!!!!! The quality of the food was average and there were not many customers in the shop. When I complained about the price , I was just shown the menu on the table and the cafe worker was not prepared to talk about the price. This place is a complete rip-off!!!

This is the second time I have used this establishment and both times I have been very disappointed by the size of large plain chips. They are not large chips and for £4.30 I would expect more. I called the shop back about my views and they were not interested in what I had to say. I have used other shops and had bigger portions for at least £1 cheaper but I wanted to stay local to help the trade👎 Never again. Take your money and go somewhere else.

A consistently good no nonsense fish and chip shop. Have been coming here for years. I try others every now and again but always return to find this is still better. Fresh food and also a good lunch time deal.

Normally amazing - generous portions, absolutely delicious fresh food and lovely staff. Not sure what has happened, but food was AWFUL! Soggy fish batter (with oil slick), a few under cooked chips and definitely no service with a smile - 'not my shop' was mentioned by staff more than once. Such a shame - this was my go to place for fish and chips. Won't be returning for quite a while.

Small chips cost me 2.50 and had to wait 15 mins I was the only one in there will never go back and I will do my upmost to stop people from giing

This is local to where i live and this place is one of the best fish and chip shops iv been to in ages, food is lovely, staff are so polite and service is really good. You can either eat in or take away which is nice this is defo one to suggest to anyone

Disappointed. Fish batter not crispy or fluffy, instead oily and flat. Chips felt undercooked also. It came as a real shame because of the good reviews posted about this place.

It was getting quite infuriating that I had had to do a trio of consecutive early starts in London working with the Fuzz, temporarily, and I was also finding it ruddy tedious, afterwards, being stuck indoors, as a single person - something that far too many others were experiencing around the world, also. The only remedy? I fancied some fish and chips, and ended up stopping here, having never seen the establishment before, strangely. Parking is available directly outside which is useful. Place is tidy and clean, and the prices are decent. Both Gents working inside were really pleasant and chatty, and service was quick. Rock Salmon was a very nice, light, piece of fish and the chips, with salt and vinegar were good. One would, ordinarily, be able to eat in, if so desired, but for obvious reasons, that temporarily, is not possible. Overall, coupled with a viewing of ‘A Good Year’, it certainly lifted me, somewhat.

Pale and soggy batter, bland flavour to the fish and tolerable chips. Can’t remember the last time I had a worse one to be fair. Wouldn’t have eaten it if I’d not just done a 10 mile walk.

We ordered scampi and cod and chips, the chips were just about edible but the scampi and cod were absolutely disgusting. The batter was incredibly soggy and foul tasting and the scampi was raw. This restaurant/takeaway shouldn’t be in business and health and safety really need to pay it a visit. Absolutely appalled by the food. Do not under any circumstances waste your money in this awful establishment. How difficult is it to produce good quality fish and chips - it’s really not that difficult. I will never ever return here and I strongly advise people to avoid this disgrace of a fish and chip shop.

Pretty good fish and chips and open on a Sunday which is a real bonus.

Really bad. I ordered haddock supper, cod supper, and onion rings. The haddock still had its skin on and tasted old and fluffy, also the batter was wet and slimy on the inside and really flat and greasy. The cod was much better, but because they wrapped it inside a polystyrene tray the base of the batter became completely wet and slimy. Also the onion rings were really cheap tasting, chewy. The chips were average. When I phoned to complain I was told that I could have another cooked if I wanted. When I said I didn't want another and asked whether the haddock is really 'fresh' frozen and asked about the skin being on, I was told this was all normal. I have never seen any haddock with its skin on and in completly flat batter before in my life. Really horrible. I was offered a refund but would have to go back to the shop. I don't own a car and had made a special walk there and back, am now starving and really tired after being on a massive walk today. I just don't have the energy. It really, really ruined my night.

Both eat-in and takeaway facilities are here. Staff are very nice and polite. Unbelievably cheap. Seriously, this is the most reasonable fish and chips place I've ever dined in.

We always pop in here for a generous portion of chips with rich curry sauce (the best up to date) and hot mushy peas. The staff are super friendly and quick. Very happy to have found this place!

Delicious fish & ships in Surbiton!

The cod and chips were absolutely ghastly, chips were cold and squashed together to make one large mash up. There was more batter on the fish than there was actual fish. The meal was covered in brown paper which was soaked in oil. Won’t go back there again.

Love this fish and chips shop. The owner is really friendly and gets the orders done quick. The food is always piping hot and never oily which is an added plus.

There's no frippery here. Solid, uncomfortable sit-up chairs, ketchup on each table, menus that look like they're out of some 70s drama, the children of the owner wiping down the table surfaces with squirt disinfectant. And yet, the product is fine. I had one of the oddest versions of scampi I've ever experienced - fat frozen shelled prawns battered and plunged into the boiling cookers. But it tasted really good. Excellent chips. If you want fancy, go down to Portsmouth Road and pay half as much again as you pay here. There are real oddities too. I thought deep fried Mars bars was a Scottish joke, but they do them here. They also do deep-fried mushrooms. Ah, takes me back to Wheelers in Kingston in the 1970s. Happy days.

It's ok, quite big choice of fish, clean environment, enough place to eat in. I'm not a fan of funk food, but who is - I do recommend it.

I ordered a takeaway via deliveroo. The system was easy to use and arrived promptly. The classic cod and chips was very nice. I had ordered a gluten free rock meal. My order arrived with a letter 'dear Linda. The Rock is not gluten free. We need 40 minutes notice in advance, driver is here 5 minutes since the order is arrived. Sorry we couldn't cook at your demand this time. Best regards Surbiton fish and chips.' I am not sure what they thought I would eat. They need to have a rethink

I am a self elected fish and chip Connoisseur and can confirm that the fish and chips from here are the best I've tasted in the south of England. In Surbiton don't be bamboozled by some of the other chip shops,where passing footfall is also greater, showing supposed ( half baked) awards, these are simply the best. The only problem is parking, as the bays outside always seem full and dormant.

These are the worst chips we’ve ever had. They had been refried and were greasy, they were inedible. The kids sausage was bland and mushy. Avoid this place at all costs.

Wosrt fish and chip shop I have been to. Staff are rude and more worried about what time they finish the serving you. Deliveroo ordered take priority than customers walking in. And food not good.

Unfortunately we can no longer recommend this fish and chip shop. Whilst it’s location is great for us and has been our mainstay for years, the past six months has been disappointing. We continually experience lukewarm food at the point of receiving, so much so that a food temperature tester I brought with me last night read just above 40 degrees by the time it got to the car. The minimum at delivery is 63 degrees from hot holding.

Batter and fish both undercooked. Batter was stuck to the box when we opened it so lost half of it. Fish still translucent and not flaking.

Cooked fresh and friendly people

We are from America but stay in Surbiton often as our family resides there. I stopped in for the first time friday evening to order several large takeaway meals. We had ordered a similar meal at a nearby pub earlier in the week and these folks blew it away at a much lower cost. Everything ordered was prepared fresh and was wonderful. It's even more pleasurable when the owner and staff are so nice. We will definitely return.

I've been a few times now and I'll keep going back. The fish is good quality and the chips are perfectly cooked and taste fresh. The owners are very friendly. I always take away but you can eat it. This is a real hidden gem, worth a visit.

I've had the lunch special here three times in as many months. It's not just very good value, it's really tasty. At first I thought that the batter was pale and under cooked , however what I found is that the owner takes real pride and changes the oil very frequently. This makes the already delightfully fresh fish taste just how it should. It may look basic and simple but if you want great fish and chips (or variants) head here! It's a real bonus that "Hunk' the owner is super friendly.

Happened to be in the area on Sunday evening and felt hungry. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and if I am ever in the area would go eat here.

The people that work here are really friendly. The quality is good and a large chips is £2.50 Cod is reasonable price at £4.60 Best chippy in Surbiton in my opinion.

Favourite and best chip shop I've ever had. Tried the normal fish and chips and recently now the gluten free option as well. Both delicious and rare to find somewhere that also does gluten free every day, all you have to do is ask nicely. Have been a regular customer over the years when it was the previous owners and also since then. Hank had a hard job to follow but can definitely say the quality is still fantastic if not even better. Always friendly and happy to see our friends and family. Bonus is having a restaurant for us all to sit in. Forget 5* fancy places for birthdays and anniversary come here. You won't be disappointed.

This is a great fish and chip shop, decent food and portion sizes. There are tables and chairs but I was ordering to take away. The staff there are very friendly and I didn’t have to wait long for my food.

Fresh fish. Great food. Good quality and reasonable prices. Huge portions! Staff are all friendly and welcoming. 5 large tables if you wish to eat in. My only advice would be to take your own ketchup if you want to eat in as ketchup is extra....and that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars.

Hank has supported our school providing vouchers for raffles and meal deals for Quiz Nights. The food has been excellent value and we hope to continue the relationship for future events.
