Sunset Weymouth - kitchen and bar in Weymouth and Portland

Went 3 times whilst we visited Weymouth. Food and desserts were beautiful. Staff were friendly.

Recently received a 1 out of 5 hygiene rating. Avoid at all costs.

spent over an hour waiting for the food and when I cancel the order left me a rude voicemail saying it’s not their fault

Ordered for delivery, order arrived cold and half missing. Very poor quality of fish of which tasted off. Restaurant has rebranded three times now I assume due to hygiene reasons as they never seem to have an actual hygiene rating. Would not recommend.

I'm afraid I wasn't impressed with the food. It all could have done with cooking for longer, I couldn't eat much of it. Staff were friendly though.

Very good service and excellent drinks

Went to this restaurant today for lunch, the girl behind the bar not very attentive at first. Asked for a certain Caribbean dish which I was informed was on the menu. Looked at the price I was completely shocked it cost more than I pay in London for the same dish. I was then informed both the food and the standard of service was poor.

Visited Weymouth on holiday last week. We went to the seafront in the hope of getting breakfast. This restaurant was open for breakfast, the menu looked good, was a little pricey but thought we would give it a try. Sat down at an extremely sticky table. Ordered a combination of hot and cold drinks and 3 breakfasts. Our friends also came and ordered the same on a separate table. There was another group sat at a table opposite. We then began our wait. We waited around 20 minutes for our drinks, there appeared to be only one young girl working, however she spent a lot of time on her phone, so assume this is why the drinks took so long. After another ten minutes or so I looked over at the woman in the other party who looked furious, she caught my eye and told me they had been waiting over an hour for their food. During this time two more girls had arrived to work. As a group we decided to pay for the drinks and cancel our food order as the children were all getting very fed up by this point. The girls behind the till all thought this was really funny and were laughing between themselves about it. We stayed and finished our drinks and the other table finally received their food as I was leaving. I asked if it had at least been worth the wait to which the lady replied, “absolutely not!”. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Went to this restaurant after talking to owner a number of times when passing. Love Caribbean food and he really bigged himself up. So when cousins from Caribbean, and other family, visiting , we all 10 went there for a meal. Disasterous from the start. Hoped it would get better but didn't! No rice and peas! No plantain! No patties! No chicken curry! Turned into a list of what there wasn't as the evening went on. All the staple of Caribbean food not there. There is a shop 5 minutes walk away that sells plantain, rice, black and red beans etc! The white wine (in a cooler) was warm. The blond woman behind the bar took the beer order and then just stood there talking on her phone! They seemed to have deep fried or grilled the Tortillas they served to my little cousin. I didn't notice as he was out of my sight line or would have sent back: they looked like burned poppadoms. The goat curry (nearly £15), was the smallest portion I have ever seen: about 2 ounces of meat. Spicy chicken wings served with no fries because the waitress didn't realise they came with fries. Chicken salad looked like a bag of salad tipped on plate with little very dry bits of chicken scattered over. When our 1/4 jerk chicken arrived turned out to be chicken legs (which cousins wife and myself really don't like) just coated in jerk seasoning. Not marinaded as should be. To add insult to injury, were served with sweet potato fries which none of us like and didn't ask for: we all wanted fries(didn't want really but no choice as no rice and peas!). As I rejected my meal, the owner turned up with peace offering of 3 small plates of food, 1 of which was Plantain which we had been told was off the menu!!! I finally lost my rag I'm sorry to say; normally pretty easy going. They were serving rice and peas to their mates all through the meal!! My family are nice people who do not like to complain, but I had recommended this place much to my regret. After I'd gone through most of the list of disaster with the owner, he tried to get me to repeat it to his business partner. What??! Not my job. I think he took the price of my meal off the bill- big deal. And NO, there is nothing he can do to make it up to us. It ruined the last night of my Cousins' visit. I would not want to return to such a rotten place. Do not go if you want a taste of the Caribbean. Too much concentration on Shisha pipes and hanger-on friends and couldn't-care-less employees.

My son came here last night with friends and he said the owner was very rude and even though the food was ok last night he has food poisoning and has been sick all day

Absolutely awful experience, a Caribbean restaurant that runs out of rice n peas, plantain and patties is NOT a Caribbean restaurant! A catalogue of disasters, warm wine should have been a clue, the 1/4 jerk chicken turned out to be 2 drumsticks and a wing. I ordered fries NOT sweet potato fries. Everybody appeared a bit clueless, in the time we waited for our food (all the dishes arrived separately) they could have cooked rice n peas, and despite having no plantain when we complained about EVERYTHING they brought fried plantain in an attempt to placate us 😂 Avoid.

Great Caribbean food, with friendly and enthusiastic service. A real feel-good experience.

Had a great Goat curry with rice n peas. Food lovely and well presented. The owner very friendly and attentive. New waitress did her best. There seems to be lot going on . Sky sport . Disco. Shish and food but cocktails great and music good.

Chaos and confusion are really the only words to describe this business. It doesn't know what it wants to be, is it a seafront traditional English cafe? Is it a Caribbean restaurant? Is it a nightclub? It seems to want to be all these things and failing at all of them. The staff didn't even know if they were serving food when we asked (7pm on a Saturday evening). Even their online listing here is confusing with differing menus and prices. I have no idea if the food is any good, it's too hard to even get to that point, however it needs to sort out the basics first.

Worst excuse for Caribbean food I've ever had! Prices were shocking £14.50 🤬 curry chicken was nothing like Caribbean curry chicken shocking so poor worst I've ever tasted!

Good food, but got ripped off for the food. We bought 2 wraps and 2 teas . We were charged £12.50 each. The bloke who runs the place is very welcoming. But watch out he is about to sting you

Breakfast was amazing and cooked to perfection, and not too expensive. Service was really good and owner was very friendly. Definitely will come back again

Came here for the second time today with Friends. We had a cooked breakfast last time which was totally gorgeous and today we had a belated birthday celebration and had a cream tea which was out of this world. Warm scones, beautiful proper clotted cream and tasty jam and a pot of tea to top it off. The owners are so lovely and today Mich was really welcoming and helpful and we would definately come back again

Visited venue for a cream tea afternoon with friends. Cream tea very delicious and fresh. Great selection of herbal teas. Very friendly and welcoming hospitality. Thank you very much. Look forward to returning for an evening meal.

I wait pizza more than one hour, sloppy staff, you need to wait staff and you fell uncomfortable in restoran.. Never again

Most likely the best pizza in Weymouth, great ingredients and great dough! I eat easily 4-5 pizzas a week, so I'm always looking for the best, and Il Caprese truly served. Great food, OBEKTR.

Visited for breakfast. Very long wait for service, we ordered 3 breakfasts and only 2 came out. No dairy free options at all. Dreadful. Won't be going back.

The pizzas are quite good and the pasta, although are not wow, are quite good and tasty. Maybe a little overpriced. The staff is very friendly and attentive, also the place is good to feel comfortable. They have a fairly varied menu, for all tastes. The location is perfect to be close to the beach.

A nice Italian restaurant with a good choice of Italian meals and the staple fish and chips or a burger for the less adventurous diners .Our group had four separate dishes all of which were very good with a good choice of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks .All served by a polite friendly member of staff.

I do like popping in for lunch or a coffee and I must admit there coffee is good but I do think the staff could dress a little better and a smile would not go a miss, other than that, I would of given a five * Food was delicious. Thank you chef

Pleasantly surprised by this Italian gem of a restaurant. Everything we ordered was just incredible and top qualit, the Portland crab tagliatelle was just out of this world! Staff very nice and attentive.

Terrible value for money. The lasagna looked like sawdust and old dough. béchamel replaced with melted yellow cheese. I do not recommend it.

Great pasta and good menu considering the chef is Polish he knows how to cook and serve past, only 1 small complaint you get far to much to eat but if you are hungry this is the place to go.

My calzone was presented rather oddly, a bit overdone on the outside and covered in rocket. But don't let that put you off. It and the rest of our table's food was delicious and I would happily return here.

Loved it there! The food is fantastic, authentic and large portion sizes- plus plenty vegetarian options! The service is quick and attentive. We had the veggie Bolognese and Pizza Florentina. Both were amazing. Only the Tiramisu was not my favourite and not very Italian. Definitely worth trying this restaurant 👍

An Italian restaurant, run by Poles, I think. The waitresses swore in front of the guests, not everyone understands, but it happened to us. Italian paste with the addition of cook, vegeta or other similar spices - it did not suit and unfortunately a very laxative dish. Prices are very high compared to the quality. Pizza is better at Sealife Center. I do not recommend!!!

It was like an episode of Faulty Towers with John Cleese. Staff were bringing out food, not knowing which table or who the food was for. Stuff was being dropped behind the bar and empty glasses smashing on the floor while the table was cleared. Positive? Food was good

Nice Italian food on the seafront

This is a fantastic restaurant. We reached Weymouth very late in the evening and could not find a table in any restaurant. Luckily, IL Caprese had a table for us and how fortunate that turned out to be! They have a lots of vegetarian options. Their spaghetti is very saucy and has a lots of vegetables. Vegetable lasagna is awesome too. Go to this restaurant for non-bland Italian food, great service and great drinks. Their cheesecake was not up to the mark and that's why 4 stars.

Have been to better establishments

I personally don't believe it to be authentic Italian , it wasn't terrible but I personally found my meal bland. The sizes were odd and I found it to be expensive for the actual quality and presentation . Can't comment on other dishes but I ordered lasagna and spaghetti bolognaise little disappointed unfortunately 😒

We ABSOLUTELY completely and totally LOOOVED this place - with its cute inside seating, EXECELLENT food with generous portion sizes - making such an awesome change from pub food!! Very kind and wonderful staff too!!!

I had bruschetta for a starter. It came at the same time as my pizza. Not surprising I guess when I had waited over an hour for both!! Bruschetta was ok, pizza was really quite good. Quattro formaggi and they had really nailed it. The service was not good and it needs to be improved with staff training. Good location.

I do not recommend this restaurant at all! Disorganized service and honestly tasteless pizza. I ordered the pizza "il Caprese" with tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh tomato (which is slices of salad tomato), ball of mozzarella (that you can't see because they are melted ...) and asparagus. The waitresses didn't know the name of the dishes they were serving and bang glasses and plates on the tables. Only one of them (a sweet blond woman, in her 50s and without glasses) was friendly but unfortunately, that is not enough to be a good waitress. The worse thing is that after finishing to eat my pizza (even not all of it!) about 40 minutes later I started to feel so SICK and spent half of my night in the toilet. Never back, never recommend.

We absolutely loved the food here. We were looking for something quick and easy after a long day and stumbled upon this place. The staff were very polite. I think the only down fall was the location. Its right near a bus stop and very congested. I think it may gave been better in the evening. However the place has alot of potential and with the right advertising could alot more customers

Perfect experience if you like: -buttered pizzas 🍕 Decomposing parasols And bad service

So, we walked in to this restaurant for our last meal of the holiday, really excited for some Italian food. We asked to reserve a table and return in 30 minutes; this seemed to pin us as ‘difficult customers’ from the get go which was unjust. We returned and was greeted with false smiles. The waitress was very eager to take our order and kept returning every 2 minutes when we weren’t ready as we were settling in; this again seemed to be unacceptable on our behalf and we should not have been made to feel this way. The food was alright, accept for the garlic bread which was very doughy and seemed to have very strong raw garlic unevenly spread on top - definitely not worth £7.50. I had the seafood pasta dish; the seafood was rubbery and not fresh; I had expected fresh fish food due to its location. The mussel shells were also broken so was quite fiddly needing to fish it out of the dish before I could tuck in. The waitress came and took away plates halfway through the meal, leaning over my boyfriend who was still eating and before we had finished our drinks they served the bill without asking if we were finished, if we wanted more drinks or dessert and 10 seconds later she appeared with the card machine. The staff kept eagerly looking at our table which left us feeling uncomfortable so then we rushed our drinks so we could just get out of there which was clearly what they wanted. Sadly they play ‘In the chart’ music rather than traditional Italian music was just disappointing. Unless Il Caprese change there attitude towards customers, I do recommend trying out other Italian restaurants in the area before settling here.

Friendly staff but overall poor affair chef couldn't cook an egg or a pizza base

Somehow fancied something warm, light but tasty during a Weymouth break and finally stopped here after walking past so many times. Just caught a minor lull between a busy time and a hectic time but staff welcoming and later did all they could do help people find a table. Food wise I had grilled asparagus and Parma and a simple vegetable spaghetti. Both perfect and ample.. I shan’t be walking past any more..

Had a very pleasant evening, had vegetarian lasagne which came with a salad and toast, it was very tasty and a good serving.

Very disappointed last time we went service was very slow and food was bland! Tasted like the lid fell off the bottle of oregano on to my pizza and they left it on there

Lovely cafe/restaurant. We both had sirloin steak with new potatoes and they gladly changed the salad for peas. A little pricey but was value for money. Will definitely be back and also excellent service from management and staff too

Worst place I've ever been! The only authentic Italian thing here was the Peroni beer which luckily is not made by the restaurant! I seriously can't understand all these positive reviews, it was the first time I've left the whole meal. Just to let you know, tomatoes on top of a bruschetta need to be cold, not hot from the microwave... and I'm Italian.

Worst meal ever. Not authentic Italian, or edible. Edit: My girlfriend is Italian and another Italian couple, who were sat next to us at your restaurant that night walked out without eating any of their meal. This is the first time I've walked out of a restaurant and asked for a refund in my life, so it's not like I'm a fussy eater.

I ordered a takeaway from here last night and it was delicious. I ordered it for collection at 6:20pm and it was on time. One of the best lasagnes I have had. Would recommend.

Wow. Rating 4.2 on google we thought we were in for a treat. DEFINITELY not the case. Appreciate it was a Monday night but what a disappointment. Bruschetta was nice, prawn cocktail ok, but quite flavourless with clearly frozen prawns, probably from Aldi as I spotted a few of their empty crates while waiting for the bathroom. But the main course was where they really fell down. The ‘risotto’ was boiled rice with a sauce poured over, and processed diced chicken, again meat like you get from a supermarket. And worst of all tasteless and watery. Then the Frutti del Mare - carbonara sauce which I’d never had on a seafood pasta before (although it was the special for the evening and it was last service so maybe serendipitous for the last order?), plus frozen D grade flavourless seafood and what was definitely not freshly made onsite tagliatelle. I would hazard a guess we had a shoddy home cooked meal at best, sourced from the local supermarkets instead of the beautiful fresh produce on its doorstep. Service was quick, and smiley, but hamstrung by the kitchen for the final product. In my opinion, definitely AVOID.

This meal was an all around disappointment, and the service didn't make it any better. Between our table we had pizzas and a calzone. All pizzas without fail tasted wrong; a consistent "worst five pizza of our life" across our party. The tomato sauce was a plain passatta, there was an off selection of unnecessary and over the top dried herbs sprinkled on top, and the base were dry and best described as 'cardboard like'. The worst dish by far was the calzone; the dough was raw and undercooked, such that if picking it up and stretching it it was damp and glutinous, i.e. dough like. When bringing this up with the staff, there was no semblance of a surprise or apology, and the 'resolution' was to discount a totally inedible dish by only 50%. There is a popular Italian chain restaurant above 5 mins walk away - trust me when I say you'll have a much better meal there. Only a few places are bad enough for me to say "please heed my caution and eat elsewhere" but this is one of them.

After bad service with uber eats, our order was brought to us by a team member at IL CAPRESE. The food has made up for it, it's amazing and we'll definitely order again (maybe in the restaurant this time)

The pizzas we had here were brilliant and would rate 5/5. The service was good to start with, after that the waitress disappeared and we did not get chance to order more drinks or any desserts. Decided it was best to pay and leave, had to go looking for someone for that.

My wife and I had an amazing meal tonight. Staff were fab and the chef may have been the owner was so accommodating nothing was too much trouble i would recommend this lovely little place to everyone

It made me sick how terribly the managers were treating the employees. They also served me real meat in my "vegetarian" bolognese and I realised my three-year-old got food poisoning as soon as we got home. I'm never coming back to this restaurant again.
