Dissapointed to see that the floor was absolutely filthy which isn’t hygienic whilst eating or good for kids to roam about on.

Such a friendly atmosphere and the food and drink match. It's just off the canal by b&q and has parking off two waters rd. Outside seating, indoor both by the farm shop and their amazing greenhouse cafe. Loads to look at and buy local products. This is a charity that supports people with learning disabilities and is brilliant.

My caramel shortbread had good quality chocolate on top which I think is a marker of a good baker and actually quite unusual, the shortbread and caramel were perfection and surely homemade. My coffee was faultless all served promptly in a shady garden by the canal with unusually friendly cheery staff, a great stop if your travelling on the grand union canal, you can walk in straight from the towpath. The plants were so good and such staggering good value that I thought I’d misunderstood the offer. What a lovely place.

A small cafe for hot drinks, cakes or light meals. Easy to miss but accessible from the towpath - perfect for a break if you are walking. Very pleasant, especially if the weather allows you to sit out. Child and dog friendly.

Had lunch in the Sunnyside Cafe which is a small cafe in a garden centre on the outskirts of Hemel Hempstead. Service is friendly and the quality of the food is reasonably good. We visited during the pandemic and had to sit outside. It was actually a really hot day and we struggled to find somewhere to sit that was sufficiently shaded. Service was a little slow.

Having just picked up a campervan rental in the street nearby we thought we would have lunch before we started on our way. How lucky we were to find this place! It is dog friendly, vegan friendly, and serves delicious food. The portions were huge and price reasonable. Staff were charming and there is plenty of choice for lunch. (Soup , sandwiches, cakes, baked potatoes plus other things) and great coffee. We liked it so much we returned for lunch on the day we brought the campervan back. luckily for us the sun was shining both times as seating is outside. (this maybe just due to covid)

What a smashing little place and such a brilliant ethos around learning disabilities. I enjoyed a fab jacket potato with interesting salads and my husband loved his beetroot soup. We then got 15 plants for £10. What a bargain. Just about to plant them now. A must visit if you haven't been. Car park and can access from canal towpath. Easy peasy!

We bought some Begonia plants about 3 months ago. They have been fantastic, best flowering plants we have ever bought. They just keep going on and on and are still looking beautiful today! We have also been very pleased with some other plants we have bought here and will definitely come back again!

A real gem, coffee and cake were delicious and to think I didn’t know about this hidden secret....... I will definitely be back, along with bringing friends and family so that they too can experience such a delightful place. Looking forward to seeing the plants in full and hopefully being able to purchase some to help with more SMILES at the SUNNYSIDE UP retreat. Thank you

I like to call in here when I'm walking into Hemel along the Canal. Access is easy. There is a spacious area for seating indoors, though I generally sit outside to enjoy the birds song. I'm a vegetarian (not vegan) and I particularly like their cheese and onion sandwich that comes with a generous portion of salad and crisps. It's made from a wonderfully fresh and tasty wholemeal bread and with aged Cheddar cheese. Excellent tea too. Everything is clean and tidy and attentive service is assured. Thew staff are very friendly. Strongly recommended. I applaud the work that they do to help adults with learning difficulties. Do give it a try.

We have been here many times, with friends, with grandchildren or just ourselves and every time we have a great cup of coffee, sometimes with frood, like this Saturday. There are always things for the children to play with - a great train set for example. The food is limited but freshly made, original and tasty. The staff are really pleasant and you can buys flowers, plants and local produce. The charity is doing a great job and it's good to be able to support it and the staff they employ.

This is a lovely place to relax, meet with friends, just watch the world go by... The staff are so friendly, the coffee is lovely, the toasties just ouze cheese and scrumptiousness and the carrot cake is well... yummy :) Placed right next door to the canal you can relax, with dogs and or children - or neither with the sound of peace and relaxation all around. The shop is also brilliant from locally produced honey and apple juice (amongst lots of other bits) to the fill your own detergents, this is a very special place. As a charity they are putting funds back into such a worthwhile cause. And growing flowers and plants for the local area they spread joy far and wide :)

Another fantastic find! Not entirely sure how we’ve missed this one, but having been once we will definitely be going again. Great coffee, great homemade brownies (other yummy looking homemade cakes and snacks available), great cause. What’s not to like? Farm shop stocks all sorts of organic stuff, much of it from Sunnyside’s own properties as well as other local suppliers. Well worth a visit!

This cafe is in a wonderfully peaceful location by the canal in Hemel Hempstead. It adjoins a farm shop and is surrounded by greenhouses. The cafe and the rest of the site is run by Sunnyside Rural Trust, which trains adults with learning disabilities to work in horticulture and hospitality. Much of the food is homegrown and home cooked. The indoor and outdoor seating areas are both in quirky settings. I love coming here for lunch or coffee and cake when I pick up my veg box from the farm shop. It's a wonderfully relaxing spot, the staff are unfailingly friendly, and it's good to know that it all supports such a good cause.

Brought my daughter down for a spot of brunch and being eager to support local charities esp those supporting Learning Disabilities, decided to try Sunnyside Up. Beautiful location on canal side and on such a warm day we were able to sit outside. Lovely jam on toast (jam being homemade by Sunnyside using fruits they’ve grown). Lots of dietary options available... coconut cappuccino is yummy

Stopped by on my way past for a sandwich to takeaway. Had no idea this little farm shop had become a cafe too. I’ve bought produce occasionally from Sunnyside and always liked it as it has that homegrown taste and quality. The same for this lunch - a lovely hummus falafel wrap with salad far exceeding any lunch I could have bought in a supermarket or even other independent cafes in the area. Great value for money as not your typical quality produce in the wrap - delicious salad which I can only assume is organic/their own-grown. Very tasty and healthier than average thank you.

My k wife and I were on our way top another cafe by the canal and saw signs for this one so we decided to stop by and have lunch. I ordered a BLT with Americano and my wife ordered beetroot soup. The 2 female staff were friendly. However when my sandwich was brought to me I was told the cutlery was inside. So I went to get it and found that most of out was dirty with food dried onto it. I mentioned this to the lady in charge and she initially asked me to bring the basket to her before realising that she was speaking to her customer. She arranged for the cutlery to be brought to her to go back into the dishwasher. My wife's soup arrived and it was vegetable soup rather than the beetroot soup. Bearing in mind that the cafe was not busy at all I was very surprised to find these issues here. So will not be returning.

We came in for the street food and found the event very well run, there were plenty of stalls, a good variety of offerings and seats to be had. Staff in the pub were very friendly and plenty of them clearing glasses - in fact a bit too keen, keep your glass in view. The ordering at the bar is meant to streamline the system but makes it into a bottleneck- but no real issue there was a Tring beer tent outside! Great event and pub give it a go!

Wanted to leave a review of the St Albans excellent taproom from the brewery. Being a bit of a novice beer drinker i needed a bit of guidance on what and how much of each drink I should have ( one of the recommendations was a 9.7% stout that is apparently best drank in thirds if you can manage it!) by the wonderful team member Marcus behind the bar. A brilliant afternoon’s experience that I would really recommend if you’re looking for something local and a bit different.
