A great family friendly (including dogs) pub, with an ever changing selection of real ales, and an ever expanding range of spirits. It's in a fantastic location, ideal for a well deserved drink after a long (or short) trip through Sunnyhurst woods or the Moors/Darwen Tower. p.s. I am biased as my sister, Katie, is the Landlady, but don't take my word for it, find out for yourself.

Went in after a long hike in the local area, I cant comment on the food as i never ate there but my drinks were served to me by an extremely polite young lady called Vikki, what an absolutely charming young lady and a credit to the venue.

I came here a few weeks ago for a celebration of life (Kirsty) I got a little bit tipsy, I was looked after well. I’ve been again this evening and was sensible. It’s not a rowdy pub at all, it’s a warm ‘family’ pub and it’s very welcoming. Thankyou for a lovely evening xx

£4 for two watery weak Douwe Egberts coffees in paper cups seems a bit steep. Quite shocked a pub that's popular with walkers doesn't have a coffee machine?! Response to reply - it was two coffees. I was only told it was Douwe Egberts when they were brought out and I was standing waiting to pay. So you seem to be mistaken. It's always a good sign when a pub lies in response to a negative review instead of taking it on the chin!

The pub has had a good makeover since I last visited, pre covid. Fresh bright wall paper, new carpets and lots if pictures, mainly of French Bulldogs wearing tiaras for some reason, and fancy quirky ornaments, including French Bulldogs, all of which you can buy. Whilst there the local French Bulldog walking group all met outside, I've never seen as many Frenchies in one place before, guess there's some connection to the pub and Frenchies, I'm guessing tge owner lives them.

A lovely little pub situated at the top of Sunnyhurst woods. Very cosey inside and most interior decoration is available for sale!It can get quite busy here what with all the locals and can get a bit cramp because it's only small inside. The owners should be proud of this little establishment though and I'll be sure to be visiting again soon!

Great little Thwaites pub near the top end of Sunnyhurst woods with some roadside parking and a small car park a short walk up towards the woods. Seating is around tables in two rooms as well as at tables & benches outside. Walkers with muddy boots, children and dogs are welcome (water in a bowl provided for dogs). There are usually 4 or 5 different real ales on the pumps and I've never had a bad one yet. The bar staff are friendly especially the woman from Glasgow. The decor is interesting and there are often devorative items from a local retailer on show and for sale. There are TVs in both rooms which have both been set to sports channels whenever I've been there in the late afternoon. It can get a bit noisy if there's an important football match on but usually the general atmosphere is very relaxing with the chatter of contented guests enjoying a drink, packet of crisps and each others company.

Went here for the unlimited Sunday lunch. Was totally ignored by the staff when we arrived, stood waiting while the staff walked past us. I had to grab someone and tell them we had a table booked. A young girl looked at the reservations list then went off to check. Upon coming back, she walked straight past us and started serving in the bar. Again, I had to get a different staff member and explained we had a table booked, to which he replied “ I don’t think we have any tables”. I told him that someone could at least communicate with us and offer us a drink. We sat and waited, at which time, the staff began arguing with the manger about the table situation. It was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional. The manager then came over and did apologise and said he’d had 2 staff members not turn in. He took us to a table. The food was quite nice, though the gammon was extremely salty. Probably wouldn’t go back in a hurry.
