Four of us visited last Friday night, great atmosphere as well as the views from where we were sat in the conservatory, four meals all different, fish pie, teriyaki salmon, gammon & filet steak, not one of us could fault any part of our meals, coupled with good service and a very good maitre D, all in all a wonderful meal with good service and very good quality food. We visited last night and had booked a table for 7.30 p.m., at 7.50 we were still not seated, the waitress obviously noticed our concerns and mentioned it to the old chap whom we believe to be the owner to which he replied "whats the rush". Not exactly the customer service we were awaiting. We received no apology or explanation as to the delay, however he addressed the group of 4 who were also delayed advising them of the delay and he was trying to get them a better seat in the conservatory area. We were never offered this option. He just turned to us and said your table is ready...nobody shown us to our table so we sat at one for 2 to be told, you are not here and put us to the next table for 4, which I found strange because nobody sat at that table for 2 for the rest of the evening. The owner made us feel very unwelcome from that point on. I found him to be insincere and got the impression he wanted us to leave as soon as possible. On a lighter note, the food was served promptly, the portions were plentiful and very tasty, the waitresses very all very friendly, and helpful. We have visited this restaurant a number of times and enjoyed the lovely views, shame the owners attitude put a dampner on the evening.

Well I’ve 2 happy girls this evening having enjoyed an amazing fillet steak each, beautifully cooked and soon demolished. The team at the Toby are great and the girls are spoilt every time we come. Fantastic food as always and the fact my girls ask to stop here every time we head to mine speaks volumes.

The best place to eat in the best location in East Lancs. No one, literally no one does a better Calzone.

Just called in... no booking on a Sunday, and they made room for us.... there was a gentleman host who I could see knew his stuff and was making things happen.... the Sunday lunch was beautiful..... I will be going back to try more.

We have not been here for a good few years, so we thought we would give it a go. friendly staff nice atmosphere. My wife ordered a hanging chicken and fillet scewer, and I had a pizza, unfortunately the fillet was over cooked, the waitress was very accomodating she offered to replace the full meal, so we picked chicken only which was fine and when we got the bill the meal had been taken off, which was a really nice gesture seeing that they had replaced the meal, would definitely go again.

The food is excellent, set in a lovely location with a pleasant atmosphere. The prices are reasonable for the quality of the food, and the menu is quite impressive for a pub. I've visited numerous times and have never been disappointed.

Bolton Balloon Fairies was asked to deliver and set up Balloons here for a Birthday and what a lovely little place this is, set out in the open countryside, it's quiet and such a relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy a really good meal here by the looks of the food that was coming out of the kitchen, the food smelt fantastic as soon as I walked in. The staff were more than Helpful and were very cheerful, I will definitely be visiting here with my family.

The food and service are reliably good. Menu reasonably broad with something to suit most people. Prices not excessive for the location. A bit too family-oriented for us, but a good standby for when it is quieter.

We have dined at The Toby for years and the service and food never disappoints , our little lad is quite fussy and nothing is too much trouble

Absolutely amazing restaurant and stunning views

Absolutely perfect, went last Sunday and was outstanding!!! The gaffer was a top friendly chap, super organised and great fella, bar and waiting staff were lovely, attentive and well mannered and couldn't do enough for you, this obviously was learnt from the boss downwards, great atmosphere in there everyone seemed happy, food was wonderful I had my usual favourite gammon n eggs and it was perfect and the Mrs had the Sunday dinner and couldn't finish it but enjoyed it thoroughly. Lovely setting out in the countryside, just perfect, will go again 👍😊

Visited on a Friday evening! Fabulous views of the surrounding countryside! The owner/manager was really good. The food choice is excellent and the food we received was really good! Everything was piping hot and tasty. The service was fantastic and there was a male singer on to provide entertainment, who was very good too. All in all a great visit, very enjoyable

Great family pub, the ideal place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. The food was great. One of the better pub Sunday dinners I've had and drinks were great. Service was 10/10, very welcoming and quick. If you like cookery, you can ask to be sat near the pass where you can see and hear the goings on. Atmosphere was good, family and couples.

Second visit in 2 weeks, very disappointing this time, think it has new owners. There were 4 of us ordered mains, desserts, drinks, food was ok though slightly overpriced for what it is. However when I got the bill there was an extra dessert we hadn't ordered on there and I had been charged £14 for 2 shots of baby guinness!!!! £7 each!!!! I questioned it and got a rude abrupt reply 'prices are on the menu' Sorry??? You didnt even give me a drinks menu! Nor was there one on the table! I eat and drink out quite often and have never been charged £7 for a shot!! Shame as we wont be back or recommend. Beware check your bill and the ridiculous drinks prices!

It a nice surprise when you go in there. It is a beautiful place and the food is wonderful. The prices are fare for food and drink Staff are friendly and well trained.

No real issues with the food, was just average with nothing amazing. The chicken kebab was pretty bland and the coleslaw was obviously a bog standard store bought one. The hand cut chips were homemade though. Strangest part was the atmosphere, like stepping back in time with the dining room and management. All the waitresses were lovely but the 2 guys who were obviously in charge were loud and almost obnoxious? The older of the 2 was sat in the front of the dining area as soon as you walk in, with a pint and his vape. They seemed more interested in greeting people and shaking hands than noticing all of our tables drinks were empty. It's a shame because I think so much more could be done with the place. Needs a proper revamp and an overhaul on the menu so it's proper home made pub food.

Easy to book Arrived early, grabbed a drink at the bar. Our table was soon ready. Very well run, management visible and leading the team of staff, who were all well presented. An extensive menu with options of a few special dishes. All food being delivered looked nice with no complaints from fellow diners. Our food order arrived following a short wait, was plentiful, tasty and hot. Unfortunately, no room for a desert. Very reasonably priced Will def return and will recommend

When I arrive at the Toby to treat Mum for the afternoon and a catch up drink and snack, something told me wow it’s so quiet car park empty. Man sat on his own opposite of the restaurant who was the Boss jumps up and says the girl behind the bar will help you but notice not a smile but a porker face .. we ordered drinks And then he was behind us are you dining very pushy so decided to eat . We order soup was lovely fancied a garlic bread .. half way through our snack pleasant girl came over to ask if we’d finish … we were still eating ?? and I notice mr. Porker face sat watching us eat not a pleasant atmosphere felt rush we had to rush like he wanted the place to close and their were plenty of empty tables Would not recommend Mr. Misery watching 👀 we will not be returning Drive past don't stop

Excellent food and friendly staff. We hadn't booked a table but they still managed to squeeze us in even though they had a large party already booked in. We'll definitely be going back again.

A tight run ship with well trained and presented staff. If Robert Palmer was to remake that video Addicted to Love , he could get his team here. Manager is excellent , keeping everyone on the ball. Food great and reasonable prices. All restaurant and food pub owners should eat here and see how its done. As Arnie says. We'll be back.

A fantastic pub/restaurant with superb friendly service and great food and drink. We visited as a party of 11 for a birthday celebration. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone enjoyed their meals.

First time here and didn’t disappoint from atmosphere, room setting, service, staff and most of all the food! It was amazing and delicious. We have been scouting/looking and trying places around the area and so far The Toby Inn, Bolton won it to our liking!! Definitely going to be one of our favourite place to eat/drink. Well done! Highly recommended. Ps: only fair to mention we are quite fussy customer ☺️

I took my wife to the Toby this afternoon for her birthday. (In the dog friendly bar area. ) We hadn't been for maybe even a couple of years. The owner immediately made us and our two dogs welcome, even bringing meat for our dogs. The service was great. The food was excellent. (The food, as always, was cooked to perfection. NEVER overcooked. ) The starter of king prawns in chilli and garlic butter (from the specials) was to die for.....

We came here on sunday 8th oct 2023, they was bery accommodating as we had the Dog with us. We sat down and was made very welcome , the owner was in and made sure we was taken care off. The service was excellent and food was very tasty . Will definitely go again soon it might be our new goto eatery 10/10

Stunning countryside views and ample parking spaces greet you on arrival as well as a warm and friendly team. A superb menu choice and specials board and a wide selection of drinks, ales, and cocktails. To start, goats cheese brussetta and homemade breaded mumshrooms were excellent, followed by the roast beef and a steak pie, both mains were also excellent and the beef succulent The dining room overlooks the wonderful countryside view. Booking is recommended, and we look forward to returning. In September 2023, we returned for our 2nd visit, and The Toby Inn was superb once again. There is a real buzz when seated near the open fronted kitchen. It helps create such a great atmosphere in the large open dining area. Both sides of the dining room offer a great experience. This is such a well-oiled machine with both front of house and the kitchen striving for perfection. The parma ham and mozzarella brussettas were the perfect starter with excellent quality ingredients and tasted beautiful. I opted for the chicken supreme Sunday roast dinner from the extensive specials board for a main course. It was perfect! The chicken was succulent and flavourful, roasties soft in the middle, crunchy on the outside. The homemade Yorkshire pudding was the perfect finishing touch! My husband opted for the special calzone, which was to his delight filled with spicy meat. Another excellent dish. We have recommended Toby Inn to friends and family and look forward to visiting again soon.

Visiting parents from Norwich and a fantastic place. Amazing food, we had the hanging kebabs, meat cooked perfectly, very friendly staff and a great location.

We were looking for somewhere to meet and have lunch in or near Endon so went to the Toby Carvery, perhaps better known as The Plough. We decided to have the main course plus sweet deal and had good helpings of the meats and helped ourselves to a wide range of well cooked vegetables plus gravy and sauces and followed with sweets off the deal menu. We were very pleased with the quality and quantity of our meals and the value for money and resolved to return in the near future for another enjoyable meal. We were served with our drinks and sweets by a very attentive young lady who might have been Jess or Sam, not sure, but thank you in any case.

We have celebrated both my parents 80th birthdays here this year and both meal’s were exceptional. The experience is enhanced by the amazing view and as a family we have found memories of watching the sunset here in the 70’s. Front of house staff deliver an entertaining and efficient service.

This restaurant consistently serves the best food and service in and around Bolton and has done for many years. We strongly recommend you give it a try.

Lovely home cooked food (rare to find a pub that isn't serving microwaved dishes these days). Our overal experience was most enjoyable and the staff were very friendly and welcoming indeed. It was extrememly busy when we arrived but we didn't have to wait too long and our table had a lovely view over the countryside.

I have been eating and Enjoying food and atmosphere at the Toby for over 30years ,it's a very Welcoming place ,Always tastefully decorated and the food is delicious, the staff are wonderful and a credit to the owners Teri & Ari ,there menu is great and children are often eating with there parents & grandparents it's a good place for family celebrations and I'd always choose the Toby ,even though it's a long way from where we now live it doesn't stop us travelling to enjoy the food & drinks in a great atmosphere

We went here as we hadn’t been for years so decided to try.The food was lovely and we really enjoyed what we had but sat in the restaurant was like sat in a cafe as it was VERY noisy.The service was a tad on the slow side but nothing to complain about so all in all it was ok but think we will give it a bit of a miss for a bit.

2nd visit and was amazed by the homely atmosphere and great service. The food was superb and filling, will be entering a food coma when I get home.

Came here on Saturday afternoon with my family for a meal . From start to finish the experience was lovely, we were greated warmly and efficiently by the young lady behind the bar. We sat down to have a drink before being shown our table once again the waitresses were very efficient, the waiter came and took our food order our food was a mixture of surf and turf with greek salad , fillet steak , salmon with caesar salad , rack of lamb . All the food was served well presented, cooked well , hot and full of flavour. We had a very pleasant evening keep up the good work.

Decided to give this hostelry a try after reading previous reviews on this website and so glad we did. Everything and everyone lived up to the previous descriptions given. A family run establishment with stunning views and excellent food. The conservatory, being constructed with cast iron supports, gives a victorian feel and adds a definate wow factor to the building. Lovely enjoyable evening finished off with a terrific sunset.

Dined here once again & as always, everything was ace! - Cleanliness & friendliness, slick, attentive & efficient service, really tasty & well-presented food & of course the great location up on the West Pennine moors with the fantastic panoramic views from the conservatory style main dining area.

My partners birthday and harry was a legendary host, made everyone laugh and treated everyone like royalty, we took my 84 year old mother who moans at everything and even she said it was lovely, t-bones ordered and we’re perfect, I had the surf and turf and was amazing, Terry was off that night and Chris was cooking and was spot on as is when Terry is running the show, can’t fault this place, never had a bad meal yet and always full as a gun when I leave, would be nice to see trifle on the menu like the jubilee one they did 👍👍

The most amazing place for homemade food. The food is outstanding never had a bad meal. The staff are amazing they all go above and beyond and nothing is ever too much trouble. We come with our 8 month old baby and she loves the soup, they always give her a bowl free of charge and some to take home. They are so accommodating and so friendly. Great service. I love this place! .Food and service is brilliant. It has a buzz and personality that is rare nowadays as well as lovely food and drink. Fire was roaring and a beautiful sunset what more do you need x Oh and our little doggie got treated to fresh cooked chicken and lots of attention.

We hadn’t booked - but arrived and they managed to accommodate us - we were pleasantly surprised at the choice and the quality of the food - service was also excellent. Location is wonderful we were lucky to see an amazing sunset.

Decided to nip to The Toby for a quick Sunday dinner. We were greeted by fantastically attentive staff, who sat us in the ‘conservatory’, which was cosy and warm on a cold winters evening. The food was beyond delicious; obviously very fresh, everything was cooked to perfection. My partner and I were made to feel welcome, the hospitality is next level. The entire restaurant, bar area and toilets were immaculately clean as an added bonus. Thank you The Toby for making the end of our weekend so enjoyable.

Visited for a family birthday meal, not what we were expecting, very pool selection of larger, if you don’t like Moretti or carlsberg then your out of luck It wasn’t that busy when we were there yet the service was slow to say the least However it wasn’t all bad as the food was quite nice All in all, we won’t be visiting again and will probably stick with the Grey Mare which is not to far away
