Must say that as usual all was good it was the first visit for our friends who were throughly impressed with the quality of the food and service the choice of dishes is very good and quality menu so give it 5 star rating

Fantastic food as always. Staff are very helpful, polite and pleasant. Two of us dining and we both enjoyed starters, mains (tandoori main) and the Naan bread is to die for. Quality of food and service has been consistently high for years, and we'll be back again soon.

Wonderful restaurant , the staff are lovely the food is gorgeous try something different to what you normally get . support your local businesses they have been our favourite restaurant for many years .

Lovely staff. Very friendly and the food is amazing. Lovely and fresh. Specials night is Thursday and Sunday. You can sit in to eat or take away to enjoy at home.

Food was distinctly average and a dreary place in need of a refurb. The waiter was sporting a mask so presumably (took the order / didn’t serve the food) infectious and this was extremely off putting. It’s the latter point which gets the place the single star.

Exceptional food and service every time I have been. Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They are always willing to help you find a curry thats to your liking. Extremely accommodating. Will definitely be returning again!

We have ate in this restaurant for over 10 years and it is the freshest, tastiest, most consistent dining experience ever. We love Indian food and have ate it all over the world but nothing beats Sunarga. This is a family rsn restaurant who are so attentive and friendly and very happy to tailor dishes to your liking. Sanarga Birtley is a fantastic restaurant/takeaway , lovely food , lovely pint , great atmosphere , i wouldnt go anywhere else for my food. 5 star

That was incredibly poor considering what I was expecting after reading the reviews. Picked the more 'authentic dish' from the menu but wasn't remotely traditional. Chicken Tikka (doesn't belong in a main dish) added to a generic tasteless base sauce and clearly not cooked from fresh. Side dish portion tiny. Onion Bhaji in the mixed starter eaten in one bite.... It was that small. Sheek kebab was ok so not giving 1/5. So disappointing.

What can I say. Every time we visit, the food, service, and price are brilliant. 6 of us dined. All starters, main courses, and accompaniments came together and were piping hot. I don't need to add photos (mainly because the food is eaten so quickly), to say how beautiful it is. If you haven't tried it yet, then give it a go... you won't be disappointed!

We come here every week, and sometimes take for granted how good this place is. If its a takeaway or a “sitty down”, the service and food are always great. That coupled with really nice people running it is the reason we keep going back. Well worth a go if you have not yet tried it.

Bought a take away from here tonight and it's by far the best, freshest and tastiest Indian take away I've had for a long time. Highly Recommend 👏👏👏

Food was average, okay I guess. Flavours okay. Tandoori chicken had good paste coating, but not charcoaly like you get from a Tandoor oven. Veg Madras had hardly any veg in it and was not spicy at all. Prices high relative to quality, quality average only.

After having food from this restaurant for more than ten years we went for a meal and were not disappointed, lovely ambience very attentive and friendly staff . A hasty re-plan of our own little curry club brought us to Sunarga last night. We've been to a good few restaurants over the last few months and this one knocked it out of the park. The hospitality, customer service and the food were all truly excellent and it goes without saying that we'll be back whether it's part of our curry club tour or with friends and family. How a restaurant this good stayed under my radar, I'll never know, but it's firmly on there now. It's a must-visit; you won't be disappointed.

We have a takeaway most Saturdays and we spent new year again here with friends. We love Indian food and try many restaurants but nothing beats the quality of Sunarga Birtley. By far THE BEAT Indian cusine in the north east. The friendliest staff who remember you when you haven’t visited for a while. The food is SO tasty and huge different varieties of curries. 11/10 you will not be disappointed!

Sunargra restaurant is without doubt the hidden gem of the Indian Restaurant world and based in Birtley. If you haven’t been to Sunargra then you are missing a treat - think top end Indian Cuisine with signature dishes that will blow your mind. I have been to India and eaten in Indian Restaurants throughout the UK and Sunargra is without a doubt up there with the best. The staff and service is always on point. Today we had the four course special and at £15 a head it is a bargain. Starters we had Chicken Tikka and a mixed kebab - both were cooked to perfection and accompanied by their unique raita and side salad. The main event consisted of Korai Chicken and the Chilli Roshan Balti which in my opinion is the best curry on the planet bar none and unique to Sunargra. Vegetable pilau, coconut pilau, 2 popadoms and a red onion naan accompanied the main course. The red onion naan is again unique to this restaurant with a blend of red onion and chilli - it is unreal. The food was a taste sensation and if you want to experience the finest Indian cuisine then get yourself down - you will not be disappointed. Coffee or ice cream to finish and the experience is concluded.

Take away. From order to collection, absolutely brilliant. Kept food hot while having our drinks. Delicious and hot freshly cooked food. We will be back

We absolutely love this place! The food is jam packed full of fresh flavours and really tasty and the service is spot on. Great value fo money too. We introduced this place to my parents and now they travel from Belmont to have a meal here. My teenage daughter actually says ‘yay’ when I tell her we are going there for tea.

I have been visiting Indian restaurants throughout the UK for over 40 years. Sunarga is, in my view, the best I have been to. I am fortunate because I do not live far from the restaurant and I often visit for takeaways and sit-in meals....

Birtley doesn't have many good restaurants so a meal at Sunarga is always a treat as it is the very best in the area. After many visits we have never been disappointed with either the food or the reception from the management and friendly staff.

We love going to Sunarga’s for a meal or a takeaway. Staff always look after us well and are lovely. Food is consistently excellent, the Sri Lankan curry’s are the best we’ve ever had. Would highly recommend.

Been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this place always comes first. I moved to London five years ago but when visiting home I will always squeeze in a trip here. Obsessed with the onion bajis. They always recognise me and ask about my life in detail, great service every time. The food is so flavoursome and I’ll never get bored of this place. Thank you to the team for making me and my family always feel welcome and giving us an amazing dining experience.

I had a meal here some time ago now and peomised to review but haven't been able to get into my google account until now. The meal was very good, the service was great and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. Lots of takeaways being collected while we were there and everyone appeared to be a regular. 5 stars and highly recommended.
