Chilli beef was dry and in a sweet n sour sauce (wrong sauce) Szechuan Chicken Disgusting, Quarter duck tasteless with no seasoning Pancakes tasteless

Eat food from here last night, been I'll all day

Eaten from this Chinese for 45 yrs.unfourtaly it has gone down hill.will never be the same as it was in the 70s,80s,90s.shame.try the empire.

Such a good Chinese, however… the egg fried rice had a bit of egg that had gone green. However, otherwise it’s always been a great experience.

Really really nice Chinese take away, so much cleaner tasting and far less grease that the others in town.

I am fed up with everyone jumping on the bandwagon with service charge, this is applied here to collection as well as delivery and I could not find a way to remove it.

Hot tasty fresh food every time. Also, nice large portions & very friendly staff. Delivery is always quick.

Ordered a takeaway last week! Food was not up to standard! Will not be ordering from them again !!

We are here on holiday and decided on having a takeout meal. Googled for take outs in the area and found the sun light. Lovely meal great service 😋

Being a customer of sunlight since I moved to hertford 18yrs ago it used to be the best Chinese takeaway in town until it changed owners…. The food under the new owners was not cooked and disgusting bland I changed to V&V and then to empire after lock down I mean empires food was simply tasty and always amazing… empire shut down recently as the owners retired after 30 plus years so my daughter wanted egg fried rice and sunlight was the only Chinese open I thought the rice will be fine…. boy was I wrong the egg fried rice was disgusting it was all stuck together and tasted burnt it was unlike any egg fried rice I’ve ever tasted…. I am so surprised this shop has not been shut down as the food standard is absolutely rotten do not waste your money eating at this bad example of a Chinese takeaway you will never want to eat Chinese food ever again.

Good food, all hot and crispy items were still crispy. Everything you want from a Chinese takeaway really. Only negative was the beef chow mein was a bit oily but I’m not having a Chinese to be healthy. This place isn’t rated the highest on some websites but try for yourself and you won’t be disappointed.

Crispy squid not crispy and very chewy , sweet and sour chicken balls not crispy. Soggy chips and soggy spring rolls. Worst Chinese I’ve had in years. Go to V & V Chinese instead, they’re great.

The staff are very helpful and polite.

The lady who takes orders has very poor English. The last few times I have ordered she has got it totally wrong. Used to love the food there, chef must of changed as quality has definitely gone down the pan, same used to love this little place

I’m very disappointed, I’ve been ordering from this Chinese for 20 years and I would never order a curry from anywhere else. Tonight my curry came, no flavour, so watery I had to put it in the bin ! What’s happened? It was inedible , I’m gutted. Waste of money 😢

Love the chicken fried rice tastes delicious

Our local go to chinese when we have it. Unsure about these reviews as we are quite picky when it comes to our food as eat out & get takeaways often but never really had an issue here. Really great food in my opinion.

Sun Light was closed for quite some time and I eagerly awaited the re-opening as I and other family members had been regulars over about the last 20+ years and enjoyed the great food they cooked. Imagine my extreme disappointment when I found that there were new owners and the standard of their cooking is abysmal as well as having different ingredients compared to before. I gave up buying Chinese in Hertford as I could not find anyone as good as the old Sun Light, Luckily someone told me of a place I never heard of as it is away from the Town Centre and the food is great (sadly does not open at lunchtime)

Had a few bad experiences recently. Undercooked chicken this time.

Might as well have been talking in another language, told us to come in half hour, arrived to be told another half an hour, came back and found they had mixed the names up and it was ready all along, useless! Time wasters, don’t bother unless you want a dinner you didn’t order

Excellent value and quality. My favourite takeaway usually order once a week. Recommend appetiser platter as a starter, sometimes I have two. Roast duck chow mien very good.

Been eating at this, takeaway, for over 30 years, it’s been taken over, unfortunately, every thing has changed, not the same as it use to be, not bad, but not a touch on the original owners, wonderful tasting food gone, with the original owners.

Very sad to see recent poor reviews for Sunlight which has been my ‘go to’ for the last 35 years! I’ve been 3 times over the last 3 months and it has been good each time. I miss the lovely lady who fronted it for so many years but haven’t seen the rudeness commented on. I always collect so haven’t had an issue with that. I will continue to go until (I hope it doesn’t happen) I have a bad experience.

He continued to lie and say they cancelled but I have no email no phone call to say this. He lied to me and was super rude. It’s absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. This place has gone down hill big time from the previous owners.Do not buy from here!

Have to spend £25 just to get prawn crackers! Food is half good also. Customer service is null. Wouldn’t go again.

Very disappointed...food was cold as it's now put in plastic boxes instead of foil. Rice was dry and overcooked...had a chicken and pork dish both of which were concealed and tasted exactly the same!! Even the prawn crackers were not nice. A shame really as it used to be good.

I have been getting takeaway food from Sunlight for 40 years and until tonight have never had anything other than excellent service and food. My wife and I shielded for 4 months since March and only recently felt confident enough to order takeaway. Sunlight was the obvious choice and tonight was the night, especially as they now deliver.I knew they had changed hands since we were last there but was not expecting standards to have fallen so far. Rice was tasteless and the chow mien gloopy. Prawn balls were so uniformly shaped that they had to be reconstituted and the king prawn with ginger and spring onion had mainly plain old white onion and a really thin sauce, As for the ribs, I won't go there . Destination dustbin.In short, we will never buy from them again.

Lovely quality food - all batters crispy and light and plenty of veg in all dishes. Just very spicy omg, mouth on fire from the crispy chillie beef and kung po prawn. Will definitely be ordering again due to the quick service and good value but would recommend asking for a little less spice.

It gave me food poisoning, sweet and sour pork balls weren’t cooked properly , never ever order this guys I’m warning you!

Was the best Chinese in town, was a regular for 15+ years, seems it has changed hands and the the dishes have been altered for the worse. Chicken chop suey my favourite now ruined. Everything we ordered was different and tasteless. Will never return which is a shame as we were regulars and highly recommended here.

It did have quite a lot of meat & veg in the soup but we couldn't eat it.We threw the pancake roll away as it tasted off.Any edible dishes were bland.We've just moved to Hertford & we were excited to try this takeaway but we were SO DISAPPOINTED!

Great food great value for money

First class Chinese food, we have been going there for over 30 years.

This really is NOT a great takeaway. No delivery. They don’t take card, cash only. But, in honesty I could forgive both of those things if the food was any good.....but it really isn’t. I wouldn’t recommend it I’m afraid

Worst Chinese ever !! Curry so strong and definitely not cooked. Fried rice tasted burnt but was boiled not fried. Never again.

Used this take away a couple of times, very happy and will return for more. Juicy prawn toast, lots of prawn and a good sized portion. In fact all the dishes were a good size. Egg fried rice and prawn crackers were not greasy.Staff were nice and food was cooked quickly.

Unfortunately we didn't have a good experience, this is not the first time we were disappointed but we thought we would give it another go.We were missing part of our order and what we did get lacked flavour. The kung-po chicken tasted of nothing and the chow mein was just very greasy. The description of one of the prawn dishes was not what we got either. Won't be coming here again.

In comparison to any other chinese i have had, this is by far the best i will ever have the pleasure of eating.

Sun Light has been here for as long as I can remember, definitely since the late 70's. If they weren't any good they would have gone under a long time ago.

Popped in here for the first time. Very friendly staff, however we had shredded beef which tasted so sweet and of burnt cooking oil. The sweet and sour pork was so flaccid and tasteless, I thought it had come out of the washing machine. Never again will I waste my money.

Good value, typical fayre traditional Chinese takeaway. In its present management and menu for many years this good quality takeaway continues to offer good value for money and quality, the pancake rolls are the best! I

Singapore noodles were a block of gelatinous glue, crispy chilli beef was soggy in a runny sweet gravy and the lemon chocked was like chicken nuggets with a thick lemon custard. Quite simply the worst chinese I have ever had. Unbelievable that anyone have this more than 3 stars ... Have they never tried anywhere else ? Literally anywhere is better than this.

I've used this take away for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Plenty of good food for a fair price. Definitely recommend.

They do not take cars payments. So had to go into town to get cash out whilst our food sat on the counter getting cold. Wasn't the best Chinese. Won't order from there again.

The food there is so amazing that I never go to any other Chinese restaurant; ever. The service there is great and the woman (possibly the manager) that answers the phone and gives you your orders is so friendly and remembers you. How often does that happen? I would recommend this place to anyone; Five Stars!
