Sun Inn in Ribble Valley

Stopped off for lunch,were able to sit inside with puppy.Cosy fire burning,very welcoming landlady.We tried the gammon and chips,great portion size,proper chips.Followed by toffee sponged pudding and fruit crumble both with ice cream,both were delicious.Would definitely return highly recommend.

Lovely historic pub. We went for Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Good selection of beers and wines too complement the food. Roast beef was excellent, good sized portions and plenty of veg. Syrup sponge and custard for dessert. Will go again and can recommend.

Fantastic traditional pub. The way a boozer should be! Made welcome after a long walk by everyone, bar staff, locals, the 80 year old local that had heard of where we were staying, the couple that made the gorgeous pies on the menu, everyone. The beer was in good nick, the food was good honest pub food done well (ex head chef here) and reasonably priced, good value for money. Large beer garden too. Perfect.

We are regulars for Friday night pizzas as they’re always good! But we had family visiting today and thought we’d do lunch - Sam persuaded us that Sunday lunch would be perfect - and it was! Everyone was happy with their food, the portions were generous and the fussy ones who wanted things swapped on or off their dishes were accommodated with no fuss (thanks Billy!) Really good - we’ll be back for lunch again 😋

Whilst camping locally we decided to take a stroll in to the village and find a nice place to eat well the sun inn was an excellent find great service and lovely food Well worth the visit you have to try the pannini brisket beware the portions are plentyfull

A group of friends visited here on Friday evening for pizzas, whilst the pizzas where very good we where left feeling disappointed as 2 of our party could order any alcohol from the bar despite being of age. They explained that they couldn’t serve as they didn’t look old enough, one was 23 and the other 26 😨 We tried showing them multiple times their social media with the age on it. I’ve never been anywhere that refused 2 people for not looking old enough. If you do visit here make sure you carry your ID and birth certificate so that you can get a drink. The waffle was very good though.

A good selection of select beers. I had the seafood platter, it was ginormous! Beer battered cod goujons, calamari, tiger prawns in spicy coating, scampi, side salad and chips! All washed down with a pint of Wainwright's ale. A lovely atmosphere, very relaxed and superb staff.

The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Our food was very good. The pub welcomed dogs too if you were passing by.

Went here for a recent caravan trip away so this was one of the local pubs nearby. Nice selection of ales, nice cosy snug rooms and atmosphere although some of the locals can get a little loud in here and swear loudly at the bar when other customers are dining or drinking. The pub and area is a bit like time forgot so the locals do get carried away with themselves a little and think that only them are important at times but don’t let that out you off as this is what most villages are like. We had food as well and although the menu is not massive there is enough to choose from and the food was lovely. Would not hesitate to go back.

This is a very traditional pub located in the village in a very old building. The pub has many rooms and looks very cosy. We were nicely surprised by prices )very reasonable), portion sizes and quality!

Visited with my husband on a cold, frosty day. Inside was cosy, warm and welcoming. I ordered the beef roast and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had Joe's cheese and onion pie which he too thought was delicious. A lovely pub with delicious food at reasonable prices. Can't wait for our next visit!

Our party of 13 visited on a Sunday, those of us who had the roast said it was the best we’d ever had. The children’s chicken nuggets are highly recommended too. Good service and good value.

Quick visit on a Friday evening with a young family for the pizza night. Made very welcome and the pizza is by far the best in the area, very impressed. Wine was nice and cold also. Lovely bustly atmosphere.

Fabulous food, the wellington with homemade chips was outstanding!! The staff are so friendly and attentive, the best bar meal I’ve had- cannot fault at all. The atmosphere with the local cricket club and local tradesmen make this place somewhere not to miss!!

Our family, with 2 dogs, had a deliciously filling lunch after our long hike. Service was excellent and accommodating. My burger was fabulous, best I’ve had in a long time. Tasty ales, cider and lagers; and we tried all three. Definitely go back.

This is a great and historic village pub. It has recently been refurbished and is a warm and comfortable place to be. The bar has a large range of drinks...lots of choice of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks. Estrella, Ship Yard and Bowland beer all going down very well on my visit. The people on the next table were enjoying the wine too.The food is of a high quality and to my husband's delight the chips are REAL ie not frozen but they have seen a potato in the last day!The staff are friendly, hard working and following Covid guidelines.... Track and trace, one way system, table service and staff wearing masks.Full marks from me, Well done Billy!

Went to the Sun Inn for a meal and a couple of drinks. Lovely outdoor area and just enough outdoor tables in the sunshine! First time eating here and it was delicious, I had the scampi chips and salad. The homemade chips were so tasty, just wish I'd doubled my portion Julie couldn't have done more, her customer service is 100%++ lovely lady, happy to help and always smiling. Definitely be back! Visits the Sun for a couple of pints at lunch time. Lovely to sit in the sunshine. COVID restrictions in place. Table service excellent. Dogs well looked after with bowls of water. The pub has been refreshed and seems more spacious. Food is good and a few different beers. Timothy Taylor & Wainwright’s both good.

Only called for a pint and ended up having 3 or 4 and 2 meals. Food was lovely, beer garden was spaced with table service. Looking forward to another visit soon.

Wednesday night fish and chip takeaway. We are staying at Brickhouse Caravan Park and decided to treat ourselves to their fish and chip takeaway. We were not disappointed they were absolutely fantastic. Great value and so tasty. Anybody in the area on a Wednesday these are a must.

Ate there this weekend, Nov 15, the two of us had pie and peas and shared a plate of chips. Food was lovely and decently priced.

We visited here after a walk on nearby Beacon Fell. In our party, including me were three adults and two children. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal and clearly this pub has a lot of history to it. One thing I’d say were there were a couple of other children visiting, playing with their mobile devices loudly, which was a little bit annoying.

We’d heard that the pub was the most Haunted in Lancashire so couldn’t miss out on an opportunity to visit as we were staying just up the road at Wolfen Mill.It’s a great little pub, steeped in history and served a great pint of Guinness.I had Brazed Beef and the wife had Lasagne and both were home cooked, good sized portions and tasted great. The Puddings were good too and highly recommendedIt was nice to see a pub full of locals enjoying themselves and socialising. Staff were attentive and polite and we couldn’t have wished for a better atmosphere.They even had a friendly pub Cat, what more can you ask for :)

Called in as we were staying in accomodation nearby. Very traditional old pub with friendly, welcoming staff. We had the pie & pies with a side order of home cooked chips, it was really lovely and very tasty. Lovely beer garden available if weather ok. Unfortunately for us, it was raining so we stayed inside.Worthy of a visit but dont go expecting anything flash. Its a good old fashioned pub but with home cooked food.

Friendly traditional local - immediately engaged in conversation by the locals happy to tell us about the area. Both had fish pie - slightly unusual but tasty, although boring veg. My waffles for dessert were yummy! Negative points, quite shabby and in need of decorating, disappointing selection of beer. And lots of dogs, if you're not keen. We seem to have been lucky not to have encountered the owner, judging by previous reviews!

Great value meals and a friendly welcome are always assured at The Sun. On cold days, a real fire adds to the comfort. Well worth a visit.

Popped in on a Saturday night for food. We ordered a shared pate to start and a steak and ‘pie and peas’ for main courses. The food all arrived at once and naturally we sent the starter back. The steak (meant to be medium) was, according to my wife, the toughest she’s ever been served. The pie was soggy as it had clearly been microwaved.

Whilst we were in Chipping, we decided to visit the Sun Inn what a disappointment.

Had a walk around chipping good walk wanted something to eat from a pub a local we got talking to said the sun was a good place to eat so we went could not believe what we so when we went in it was dull and dirty just wanderd what we had got into but got to admit food was good so please bring it into the modern way abit

Went for a meal on Thursday 27th September 2018 , had intended to go to another pub in the village that does excellent food and service but was not serving food that day, hence the first and last visit to the Sun Inn.

Very accommodating and friendly staff. Good choice of gluten free options on the menu which was great for me as a Coeliac. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.

We threw our friend a hen do last week at the sun inn. There was enough of us to be able to have the barn to ourselves which was fabulous. We were able to decorate it how we wanted although the barn looked cosy already with a lit wood burner, fairy lights and candles. We went for the group offer of pizzas, sides and prosecco which was really good value and delicious. The staff couldnt have been more helpful and i will definitley be back.

Ate here twice with my wife whilst staying in self-catering accommodation nearby. It's a very friendly, local pub with a nice atmosphere. Not posh but genuine. the food was very good (hence a return visit) and good value. The Cock and Bull and Sticky Chicken were interesting more original and very tasty meals but there was an extensive menu and they do pizzas 2 nights a week and cheap Fish and chips on Fridays. the staff were very friendly and so were the locals. There were a couple of real ales on too. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars was that there were a lot of flies in the pub. I'd have thought the owners could have done sometging about that. Otherwise, top notch.

Accommodated 9 of us (6 adults and 3 kids) and 3 dogs without any issue. Reasonably priced and not too long to wait for food. All meals absolutely delicious, no complaints at all from anyone. Children’s meals are same as adults only smaller portions. Friendly staff and good selection drinks at the bar.

We were staying at Wolfen Mill and decided to give this place a try having called in for a drink on the Sunday. The menu is varied, reasonably priced and the portion sizes are good. The only criticism would be the limited amount of vegetables that were served with one of the main courses. It was fairly quiet when we visited and the food came out promptly. There are a number of tables in the yard at the back which was an added bonus given that we could enjoy the sunshine whilst we ate. The pub serves two real ales which are well kept. Service was excellent on both of our visits.

There are only three places to Eat in Chipping and the Sun Inn is by far the largest.

Set in the pretty village of Chipping this wood panelled pub offers relaxed atmosphere & very dog friendly. Korean chicken was good the chicken burger OK .Excellent pint of 'pride of pendle'

We booked a table at the Sun Inn , With a party of 13 , that being 6 adults , children's ages ranging from 13 to 4 year old.

13 of us visited the pub 6adults 7 kids. Served food not enable for a vegetarian when it was advertised as so. Peanuts served on a dish that wasn't advertised as so. When asked to be changed we were laughed at and told we were wrong the owner then proceded to aggressively look through the menu to prove us wrong he then snatched the 2 dishes away complaining and being rude towards us at this point we asked for a full refund and he flew back in snatched the remainder of dishes away not caring that a knife and fork nearly hit a 3 year old child. He was rude and agressive and didn't care he told us to f#@$£%f out of his pub and didn t care if he got a bad review.

We visit the Sun Inn regular with staying at the caravan site just up the road. We find the pub very friendly indeed and the food is amazing. Pizza night (wed & fri) is also a must with proper stoned baked pizzas all tasting great. If you like puddings you must try the Jam Roly Poly it is absolutely divine. The pub is also dog friendly and is very very friendly, the landlord Rob and his wife are also very nice.

A Great pub to visit, excellent food, good chef and a great pint, dog friendly and a good community pub for the local people.

Ordered food, waited 10 minutes they then returned to say they haven't got said order, changed the order to a cheaper option, didn't reimburse difference at the time, food abruptly arrived with no cutlery or condiments, no one returned, has to chase staff took four attempts to get attention, starts eating a very basic sandwich immediately obviously the bread wasn't fresh, took it back to return, plate taken with no response or eye contact, heard heated debate in kitchen, told could not be reimbursed, then waitress got money out of till to refund however it wasn't the full amount, told we need to wait 5 mins for landlord who will reimburse on arrival as no one had the authority to do it, 13 minutes later he arrived went straight to kitchen, came to us said breads not stale your not having your money back, and accused us of eating the food. We didn't. We asked to discuss and were aggressively told to leave the pub. His behaviour would certainly intimidate many people. Stunned by the lack of respect and decency. In summary - dirty, ineffective staff, very basic food, disgraceful customer service.

Great few hours spent with family and friends, fire was roaring, friendly locals & there dogs.Had a great meal, fresh fish and home made chips, partner had a lovely lamb shank and was probably the best meal we have had at the Sun Inn. Always worth a visit

The Sun Inn was a rather old pub in every respect but when it comes to being friendly and welcoming it was the best place pub I have visited in a long time. The food was excellent and good value too. We were so impressed we returned the next day and repeated the experience.

My partner and I were looking forward to having a drink in this pub after seeing it the day before. Walked in saw a roaring fire, thought excellent just what we need after a day exploring. But then we sat down with a drink and were subjected to the rantings of the bigoted female barmaid whom seemed to be the owner, after listening to her complain about how thick her employees in the kitchen were.Unfortunately she spoke so loudly and aggressively it was impossible to drown out her offensive, pig headed opinions. Commenting on social issues such as people who aren't as well off as herself and according to her their apparent lack of work ethic. She might want to think about the fact paying customers may want to have a quiet drink and talk to each other rather than struggle to speak over her rude and ignorant ramblings. Also that her ridiculous views may offend her customers. I think it is also astounding that when we entered the establishment and asked to order a bowl of chips were told they are counted as a side order. Apparently you have to order soup with chips on the side, you can't have sides on their own. Most absurd thing I have ever heard; she most be so loaded due to her 'well off' lifestyle she can turn away food orders.We then left to regain our sanity and had a much nicer drink with food at our cottage.

We stayed in Chipping for a weekend, and ate at the Sun Inn on both evenings. It may not be the most extensive menu in the world, but the food was good, and when the price was taken into account it was really good value for money. The staff were pleasant and friendly, though maybe a bit over-stretched at busy times.After the meal, you are left with a pleasant and friendly good old-fashioned pub with an impressive choice of drinks, open fires, and locals who make you feel welcome. We had two really enjoyable evenings there so we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Sun.

Went in, the place is grubby, sat down, looked at the menu, looked at was was coming out of the kitchen & left.

Having not visited The Sun for many years we had the opportunity to go back and try the pies again. It was good to see dogs in the bar and the barman was very friendly the beer was well kept too.Sadly all went downhill when we ordered food. Despite checking our order twice the waiter brought out a meal that hadn't been ordered. A manager came out to our table and blamed us for the waiter's mistake, no hint of an apology and an almost begrudging offer of the correct order but only after a lengthy wait. If we hadn't have paid in advance we wouldn't have paid at all.We left disappointed at the way we'd been treated which was a shame as we were looking forward to a relaxing afternoon there

Nice pub that has quite a large selection of food on the menu, reasonably priced too. There was lots of dogs in when we went. Small seating area outside which would be nice if the weather was ok.

Okay get the mixed grill of you can handle it. The chef makes an excellent meal. Expect freshly prepared as that is what you will get. Love the food here.

One of the meals we ordered was wrong and in the first instance the waiter who delivered it looked at us as if we were the ones who had made the mistake and not him when taking our order. He went away and we thought he was re-ordering the correct dish, but after several minutes he came back and said 'so you don't want the ravioli?' Again we said no and this time he came back with another member of staff who was extremely aggressive and kurt who again made us feel as though we had made the mistake. We asked how long it would take to have the correct dish ordered to be cooked '20 minutes' came the abrupt reply. We were then told the dish brought by mistake was vegetarian (which the correct order had been) and the member of staff then seemed to not understand that this wasn't as good as the original order. But as the other three meals we'd ordered were already on the table we accepted the mistaken dish. Not once was an apology offered, nor any offer of recompense. This place may be ok if they can be bothered getting your order right, but if not be prepared for being made to feel like a pariah by the very unfriendly staff.

Just visited Sun Inn for late Sunday Lunch. First time we have eaten there. Prawn Salad, followed by amazing Beef Roast with all the trimmings. Fantastic food at a fantastic price. Will definitely be returning soon.

A booking was made for a pre wedding meal for about 20 guests. Although they knew we were coming. as the staff aknowledged us as we arrived, a bar staff took a drinks order and opened a tab on the wrong till. When we ordered our food there was no record of our drinks, which needed to be checked and put on the tab (again). The after waiting about an hour 2 people received their meals, ate them and left, while the rest waited another hour before the meals arrived. Thw food was very good but haphazard service ruined the dining experience.

Called in on Father's Day after a long walk up in the fells. We were all made welcome and the dog could go anywhere in the pub- there was a bowl of water out the back for thirsty dogs - always a nice touch. The pub was very quiet and there was only a few in eating which makes you wonder why- but I have no idea as the village was busy. The beer was exceptionally good and well kept, and the food was excellent. We had gammon and chips and fish and chips off a varied and well priced menu. Plentiful, well cooked and fab home made chunky crispy chips. I would definitely recommend it here. It did get busier as we were leaving but mostly locals drinking.
