Sun Do in Cheshire West and Chester

Ordered today and ended up with something completely different. Paid £20 for basically rice. Will be in no hurry to return. Felt the customer service and general attitude was very poor, definitely gone down hill.

Excellent It's a chip shop as well and the szechuan sauce complimented the chips very well, nice lil bit of heat from the chilli's too which was great Would come again and be recommending to anyone in the area

Always been average ,But sadly totaly failed on last telephone order pick up, Thick double battered cold Chicken balls and Cashew dish swimming in oil .

Called here on a Friday evening after having a terrible experience with another takeaway near by , ordered a meal spare ribs sausages and chips didn’t realise it was cash only and having received the food very quickly I said oh no I don’t have any cash the girl serving went into her own bag to pay for my meal and said call back tomorrow to pay just enjoy your food tonight , amazing service kind and caring attitude thank you from the bottom of my heart !!! Oh and the food was amazing too !!!

My partner lives about a 20 minute drive from this excellent take away. Had half a dozen meals from them over the past 12 months and the quality of the food is always very good. The crispy duck is as good as any I have had in China Towns in Manchester or London. Portion sizes are generous and food is always very flavoursome and well cooked.

Ordered when arrived at shop; there was an orderly queue outside and a limit of 2 inside re covid. Order taken quickly; food was only a 10/15 min wait which was perfect to nip to garage across the road, and there were a few customers waiting so not bad waiting time at all. Food was piping hot despite a 20 minute walk back home. Really tasty (special chow mein, beef cashew nuts, sun do special, Singaporean vermicelli, chips and chicken spring rolls) and lovely of them to pop in some prawn crackers. Would love to go back when visiting Chester again.

Finally found a great local Chinese takeaway. Mini vegetable spring rolls were crispy and tasty. Beef kung po well balanced flavours and tender meat. Lemon chicken also excellent. See you again soon!

I don't live in Chester anymore, but whenever I'm back visiting family its our treat. We went on Saturday night, well observed socially distanced queue outside and the food was hot and delicious. For me, this is the best chinese take away I've been to. Cant wait for my next visit back

I used to live in Chinatown in Liverpool, so I know good Chinese food. At Sun Do, the staff are lovely, the food is constantly fantastic. The busyness of a business is always a telling mark of the quality, and Sun Do is always busy. Make sure you ring your order through before you set off, as its the most efficient way to collect. They only accept cash as well, so come prepared. Parking is OK, there is a small layby in front of the shop, else there's a side street just before you reach the place on the left. Recommendations: Salt and pepper chips Chicken in Chilli and Garlic Sauce Chicken Spring Rolls Can't recommend highly enough, we've eaten food from here at least 15 times over the past 2 years.

Went for a portion of ribs on the way home, and was looking forward to them. Asked for a large portion @ £6.50 as I had been told they were as good as the ones I used to get from Steve years ago. There were very few ribs (the longest being 4.5" and several between 1" and 2". These were in a small tray. Very poor value for the amount and meat on them. There was also grisle on the ends which has to be taken off the length. They did taste nice though, but very poor quantity.

One of my favourite takeaways been calling in mainly after footy on a Saturday, been coming back for years and years. Usually have chicken in OK or chef special sauce (always loved this dish), king prawn chow mein, satay beef and egg fried rice, it’s the perfect combination, more recently had the salt and pepper chips too, yum! Always know I’m home when we pickup a chinese from here.

The menu is great, value for money good too. The spare ribs are the best I have ever tasted. Definately best place in Chester to get spare ribs! All the food we have had has been lovely, not one complaint!

I had seen a few recommendations online and this lived up to those. Nice food, reasonably priced, nice staff and good veggie options.

Ordered lots of dishes for family group. None of it was hot, not even the chips (and we only had a two minute drive home). The beef was terrible, chewy. Nobody was very impressed with their food. Disappointed after reading such good reviews.

These guys know their stuff, great food and service with a smile. Good portion size and tasty. Ring your order through as it gets busy. Could do with an online menu though.

I’ve been going to the sun do on a weekly basis for more years than I can remember however over recent years I’ve was less impressed and tried other chinese in the area. However after giving it another go for a family birthday I’m excited to go back. The food really is back to how it used to be when Steve was a regular feature. The sweet and sour was amazing, lovely and crispy with lots of sauce, the char Sui rice had lots and lots of meat, all the other meals were yummy too, full of flavour, meat and not at all greasy. Chips were fresh and curry sauce had a good spice. Despite not delivering it’s definitely worth the drive. It truly is back to being the best chinese in chester by far

I get Chinese take outs from here on a regular basis, the "spare ribs" are probably the best in Chester, but the other food is good too. Another two favourire of mine are the Chicken n Sweetcorn soup and Beef Cow Mien.

Our usual is closed on a Sunday, so looked on here for reviews, I should have carried on reading. The fIrst one I read was really good. The food was bland and the meat too chewy. Will NOT BE GOING HERE AGAIN. AWFUL

Great fish & chips from here. Portions can sometimes be a bit small, but delicious and very reasonably priced.

Decided to visit my local Chinese instead of having one delivered and knowing Steve was back expected standards to be high again! What a disappointment, soup was nice but fried rice was average and the crispy beef below par, not crispy and tasted awful! Think I'll have to reconsider next time I want a Chinese, what a shame, it used to be so good!

Had a really tasty takeaway last Saturday. Phoned through the order when I got there it was ready. Chicken curry fried rice, sweet and sour chicken boiled rice and ribs!!! Gorgeous piping hot really enjoyed it. Thankyou

Pleasant meal was had for a family of 5.Steve is very polite and efficient whilst trying to do loads of things at once!I especially like the chicken chow neon and chicken curry with egg fried rice.Been frequenting the sun do for almost 40 years now and still look forward to a takeaway from here.

Phoned my order through, advised it would be 20 minutes. I just time to roll a cigarette, don my coat and scarf and walk over the the Sun Do.There's presently a big sign in the window 'Steve's Back' - bonus, as the place had gone to the dogs when Steve was down at the Takeaway by Waitrose. Food was ready for pick up - as it was about 18 months ago excellent, best Chinese Takeaway in Chester.

We have used this takeaway for Chinese for many years. The food is excellent. It is easy to phone up and then just collect it. Be aware they don't take credit cards

Steve is back in situ at the Sun Do. This means that you can ignore all reviews covering the previous tenancy. The Sun Do is back to being the best takeaway for Chinese food (even better as it is less than 5 minutes walk for me). The Sun Do is the only takeaway I use. It is excellent. Steve knows all of his customers by name and service is very efficient.Good to see you back.

Most others we've ordered from have been dry, overpriced, or not had things on the menu that we like to order.The only issue, stopping me from giving 5 stars, is that they don't deliver.They do the nicest salt and pepper chips ever. Always order from here when want Chinese.

We had a takaway from here New Years Eve , it was fantastic , it was piping hot , good sized portions and cooked very well , will definitely come back!

I have been a regular here for as long as I can remember however haven't been recently due to having a baby and the sun do not delivering. Went back for the first time in a while last night for a birthday treat an to be honest it was a little disappointing. There was nothing particularly wrong with anything we had however it was far below the usual tasty food we have got in the past. The rice an meals were just simply lacking in any flavour, such a shame as this was by far the best takeaway in the area and despite not accepting cards and not delivering we would always make the effort to go out to get it.Unfortunately we won't be heading back in a hurry an certainly won't be making a special trip out to collect it.

The Sun Do is our local and we regularly use it but this is the second time we have had friends over and ordered a varied menu in recent times. Last time we wrote them a thank you letter. This time we have to spread the word. Amazing. Each and every single mouthful was incredible. We had the duck, chicken satay, prawn curry as well as seaweed, fried rice, ribs, prawn toast, chips...yes we were celebrating! The Sun Do used to be a gem on our door step and the Chinese we'd always compare to, when we were away. Steve knew all his customers by name and the food was gorgeous. Tasty and well priced.However, that has all changed since he left and the new vendors took over. It's very poor and we don't use it anymore. The service isn't anywhere near as good, either. Sorry. I'd love to give a good review, but I can't.

Got a carry out for an evening meal with friends there was generous portions and very tasty food no complaints from any body in our group,it was one of the best crispy chilli beef i have had,large bag of prawn cracker,s,from phoning in order to collecting was all well done.

Every time I've been here it's been the same guy serving, never had any bad meals here, recommend the sticky ribs there the best!

This place went from the best chinese to the worst in just one day. As mentioned Steve is no longer there and is now running the former jade takeaway.

I have lived near this was jewel of a Chinese. It has reached a new level. Hair constantly in the food. Even chips and gravy. Explain that. Must of been stewing in the gravy. Lovely!!! Don't even feed this to your dog. Avoid!!!!

I believe that you've realise Steve is gone, but in the meantime he's still got another business. It's called Why Not Takeaway located next to the new wait rose ready to be built. If you can take your time and have a visit I hope you will be satisfied. And by the way Sun Do is rented Steve will be back there soon. I hope

This used to be one of the best chinese takeaways in Chester. Recently though it has gone under new management and Steve has left as other reviewers have noticed. The food is now overcooked and you are left waiting a long time for it. The chips in particular are certainly not up to the standard they used to be. I can only suggest to give this one a miss now and try the Sheradon up next to the Spar in Vicars Cross or the Sea Breeze in boughton - both of which will give you a far better meal!

I have been coming to sun do over a year now and I am never disappointed. I order chicken garlic and chilli dish and Singapore vermicelli every week and it is always very tasty! The staff are also very friendly. Would definitely recommend it.

Sun do has always been an amazing chinese unfortunately can't say that now the spare ribs were so tough and burnt I broke a tooth very disappointed Steve doesn't seem to be there any more which is a shame as it was always fantastic when he was there. I will definitely never be going again I'll travel to sea breeze in hoole in future. Such a shame

What was once my favourite takeaway is now my worst!!! STEVE PLEASE COME BACK!!! I waited over half an hour for 2chips, sweet & sour sauce, curry sauce & fried rice. People were coming in after me, making huge orders (not ordered) and getting their food before me!! How long should it take to make fried rice & heat some sauce???? Not half an hour!!! I never even got an opology!!! If I'd of gone to sea breeze I'd of been in & out in 5 minutes. Just to add to this my partner found a long hair amongst his chips, rice & sauce. We won't be going back here unless Steve comes back - what a shame!!

We live in a village east of Chester and have the choice of three Chinese takeaways in the surrounding villages. We don't bother with them and drive extra distance to the Sun Do.We've never had a bad meal in 15 years!

We all know when we have found a great takeaway, when we use it as a barometer for other takeaways, when away from home. The Sun Do is superb and is consistently so, giving restaurant quality. Steve is great on front of house and actually takes an interest in his customers. How he remembers everyone's name, I don't know... The Sun Do is the only Chinese takeaway I use. You will not be disappointed... My recommendation is the special curry, the crispy shredded beef and Steve's salt and pepper chicken wings :-)

We ordered a half crispy duck with pancakes and hoi sin sauce and were not disappointed. Side orders of egg fried rice and crispy seaweed were also excellent. Good value for money and fast service. My only wish is that would deliver within the local area! If they did, I would rate them as 'excellent'!

My usual chinese closed down and I was lucky enough to be recommended the Sun Do by a friend... This easily the best chinese in Chester... Maybe even the world! The bbq ribs are stunning and the chicken broccoli and oyster sauce was beautiful, even the sides like noodles and rice were tasty and not at all greasy. This is most definitely going to be my new Saturday night chinese.

We travel from N Wales to the Sun Do on the other side of Chester as we think it cannot be beaten! We've tried loads nearby and further away but the Sun Do beats them hands down, it's probably why they are still trading now and since 1979! There's usually a queue too!
