Very good food and service at a reasonable price

Update from my previous review: service extremely slow, understaffed even though there weren’t many people in. Food ok, no issues. Atmosphere rather dull & dowdy in general.

A few nice vegan options available, great after a walk and they have dog water available!

Chicken was so rubbery and hard to cut nevermind chew. Extortionately overpriced for terrible quality.

Pros: Quick service. Server was polite, friendly and efficient. Starters were good. Cons: Glasses were dirty - I took my glass back and the bartender greeted me with "dirty glass?" She then tried 2 or 3 glasses before handing me a clean(ish) glass. I cleaned it myself using hand wipes and a serviette. I had ordered sparking water and I wasn't offered ice. Main meal (Sunday roast) was just okay. Vegetables were advertised as seasonal but Brussels sprouts and braised red cabbage are not seasonal in late spring/early summer. All the veg were slighty overcooked - a few carrots were borderline mushy. This visit compares unfavourably to my last couple of visits with regard to the quality of the meal. The last time I had a Sunday roast at the Sun it was lovely but yesterdays visit was just disappointing.

Had a beautiful late afternoon evening here the food we had was wonderful then we sat in the large beer garden and had the last ray's of sun it is a lovely country pub

Lovely to meet Diana when we found this little Gem while driving through. Popped in for Sunday dinner and it did not disappoint . Food was piping hot and our beers well kept and cold ( just how we like them ) Staff members were cheery , attentive and friendly but not over bearing . Pub is clean and tidy and all in all a lovely boozer . Will definetly pop in again if we are in the area. 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Everytime we go to The Sun in Romsley we feel like we're on holiday. Both the pub and garden are lovely, the food is great and it's always service with a smile. Can't wait to go back.

Ordered Fish and Chips, the fish was hard flakes and very grey? Waited for a member of staff to ask if our meal was ok, but it doesn't look like they do that there. Nobody came to clear the table either. Recently a neighbour complained about the Hunters chicken, not able to get a knife through it.

Very friendly atmosphere and staff very helpful. First visit for me but not intending it to be my last.

Plus points- all meals served piping hot and together which was great for our large group. There’s a lovely outdoor area with play equipment for the kids. Toilets were nice and clean. Restaurant seemed tidy- no empty tables waiting to be cleared. Manager was nice when we pointed out the issues with the food. But……. Served J2o in a hot glass! Other glasses dirty. (Raised at the time and clean glasses obtained). Chicken gravy from one meal was missing. We queried it and were told they had run out. No alternative offered and no mention of this when ordering. Salad with the light burger was missing the brown rice, quinoa and soya beans!! Raised with staff and offered free pudding (we declined as we’d rather have had what we ordered instead!) for missing ingredients. Some elements of meals had gone dry sitting under hot lights I assume (mash and mushy peas). Not very nice. Some meals were quite small portions for what we paid. We felt the food was ok, but rather overpriced for what’s it actually was when it arrived. There was a very long wait for food. We were a large group so expected more of a wait than smaller tables. The A-frame said there was a 60 minute wait on food for everyone, small and large groups which is a long wait. Visit was ok but not value for money with the food served. We won’t be returning.

Quiz night is great Scott is very funny and comedic. Nice environment and great snacks to have from kitchen during the quiz and drinks are reasonably priced.

Almost identical to my last review. Very long wait times for food, after we ordered you put a notice by the till saying 60 minutes wait but by then we had ordered and paid. Like last visit we wasted half an hour trying to order on the app but couldn't complete the transaction and ended up going to the bar. 2 main courses came without sauce/gravy as described on the menu. My son ordered a chicken burger which should have had chicken gravy, when he asked he was told you had run out - no attempt was made to offer another type of gravy which you clearly had available. My wife was offered a free dessert as compensation which she didn't have as nothing appealed. And finally, your drinks prices are ridiculously expensive. 3 of us had soda water and lime which was flat. Like last visit, overall, the food was more than acceptable which is why we overlooked the service failings and visited again. However, it will be a long time before we return a third time.

We arrived a little early, but the table was ready, the food arrived on time, and was hot, but there was little difference between the large and standard roasts. And when ordering on the app, it asked if you wanted extra items but down the bottom, it asked if you wanted seasonal veg, and Yorkshire pudding, so I ordered them as all the other items said extra, yet those two didn't so I presumed you had to order them. So we had an excessive amount of waste.

Nice place with a big beer garden and plenty of parking. Stupidly priced food and drinks. Standard, generic Marston food menu of burgers and pub classics. Food is not bad, but also not good.

Ordered of the lunch menu. Do not recommend The hunters chicken, it was the size of a chicken nugget. Furthermore the chocolate fudge cake smelled of and what I imagine would taste like a dog biscuit. The garden and drinks are good, not the food I ate.

Nice friendly staff I had steak and ale pie chips and peas, my wife had chicken and mushroom pie chips and peas. The chips were great both pies were dry the crust had the texture of carbord and the peas were dry.

We've eaten at the sun many times and always been happy with food and service

Service was lovely, meals came out lovely fresh and hot and there was only small amounts of waiting on the bar. Staff were so friendly and made us feel welcomed.

We had requested a table in the bar as we had our dog with us. We ordered our food at our table using the QR code on the menu. Our drinks promptly arrived and then our food shortly after. The food was really good. We will definately come back again.

Possibly the worst steak and ale pie I've eaten. Soggy sad pastry. Gave most of it to the dog. IPA was good and staff friendly but no one asked how our meal was.

I have been here on several occasions however booking a table to celebrate my sons birthday here was a big mistake. I had booking several days ahead but when I arrived 10 minutes before my booked time, we were told our table wasn't quite ready, we went to the bar to order a drink. Many other people arrived after us and they were seated straight away. 20 minutes after our time slot we were told that the table was now available. The staff were not attentive during our wait and we felt uncomfortable, we had to stand at the bar and felt we were in the way of other customers getting to the bar. When we went to the bar to order food we were told that they didn't have what we wanted to order, their vegetarian options are very limited so there was nothing else available for us to eat. We left the restaurant and had to find somewhere else to eat. Again the staff that was on duty were unprofessional and in need of training in customer service.

Have no idea what’s happened to this pub over the last year. But it’s really gone downhill. Not told the online ordering isn’t working, so after taking my order via Apple Pay, no drinks arrived after 20 mins that’s when I questioned that it was received. If it wasn’t for me telling the table next to me either they wouldn’t have known while ordering online. They can’t handle a queue at the bar efficiently. Ordered a burger and chips yet I had frozen peas on my my plate. I didn’t even order peas. Yet nothing was even said after that, not even an apology. Ive been coming here for 14 years now, this is the worst I’ve seen things. Don’t think I’ll bother coming back.

We love The Sun normally but will unfortunately be avoiding it for a while. Pub was not overly busy but waited 30 mins at bar to order food, then told food was 45 min wait, which was actually we actually got to eat an hour after ordering. Not enough staff, priority seemed to be given to people ordering on the app outside in the beer garden. Restaurant was much better and more efficient before they removed table service. Shame really as staff and pub are lovely.

Always a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, bit pricey but the food has always been nice, staff are friendly the garden/patio area is nice for everyone including children as it has a nice play area :)

Terrible, food was awful. I used to come here quite often over a year ago, the food had just gone downhill. I ordered a mixed grill. It was about £16. Definitely not worth £16. The steak was so chewy, the chicken looked like and tasted like it had been either microwaved or boiled, I wouldn’t have fed it to my cat. The chips were stone cold and dry. Egg was snotty. It was possible the worst mixed grill I have ever had. Staff didn’t even come to ask us how our food was. Basically felt ignored the whole time. Awful experience. Won’t be returning again.

great service, even when it’s busy you can see the team are working at full speed to make sure all the guests are looked after. i will definitely be visiting again and bringing my family with me. thank you for a lovely time

Come to the sun at Romsley 5 days of the week. Lovely pub with even better staff . Kell is always friendly and chatty. Strongly recommend people to try The Sun at Romsley.

Food was fast and tasty. The staff were welcoming and bubbly. Kell was a 10 out of 10 will definitely be back.

We've been to the Sun a few times and had good experiences but the removal of table service is poor. We sat and waited for someone to take our drinks order but, of course, nobody came. When we chased up, we discovered we had to order at the bar. So, a trip to the bar to order drinks, then again to order food, and then a third time to order desserts. Trying to order for 8 people, is a challenge. The menus have a QR code for ordering but this takes an age to load (I guess this depends on your provider signal?). If you can access the page, trying to wade your way through the options and order meals for 8 people is a bit of a joke so we didn't bother. In all, it really took the edge off the visit. If we had wanted a Wetherspoons experience we would have gone to Wetherspoons. The good news is that everyobody enjoyed the food (although the quantity of fries with the cowboy burger was a bit stingy) but it's inevitable that cost-cutting measures that impair the quality of service will result in the loss of customers. We won't be back, unfortunately.

In all fairness the food wasn’t bad when it finally arrived, however the level of service was dismal, we waited an hour for food and people who’d come in after us were receiving their food before us. After paying in excess of £100.00 for food and drink the service and don’t really give a toss attitude of the girls behind the bar was way below what I expected from a pub which I previously held in high regard! Definitely won’t be going there again.

Very busy, short staffed, we went on Tuesday 11th of March m the 2 ladies were extremely busy.

My wife and I had a lovely meal. The food was served by a wonderfully happy and friendly young lad who added to our overall enjoyment of the occasion.

Booked on-line for 15 people for a celebration ,(2 weeks+ in advance) - EMAIL back saying NOT yet confirmed but will come back to me. Then email to say they look forward to welcoming us so informed guests all booked. Then email to say they had cancelled booking? Called them for that duty manager to tell me that she could move things around and she would put the booking back in............ so we all turn up on the night in question '1st March' to be told they can't accommodate us and we were turned away !!!! Totally ruined everyone's evening and complete night was cancelled - I WILL NEVER GO THETE AGAIN. Ought to employ efficient staff.

Sadly we made the mistake of attending when the sun was shining. No pun intended. What an awful experience. We booked a table two days before thinking this would help the up and coming nice weather crowds descending. How wrong I was. I had to find a staff member when we arrived to inform them as no one was on meet and greet. We’d booked a table for our celebration dinner. People are still sat at your table we were told when we finally found a staff member. You need to wait. Another 20 minutes until the manager appears to clear the now vacant table only to be told there’s an hour wait for food and they don’t do table service anymore which is poor and we’d need to join the line to order at the bar. This line was out of the door! The manager just pulled a face when I said we were leaving. No apology. Nothing. We went to the harvester instead with our money and a table of five where we were served by staff and made to feel welcome. Please don’t make the same mistake and just go somewhere else, especially if it’s a lovely day. **Response to owner** No Diana we won’t be back which is sad as I’d previously provided a 5 star review when we last attended and it was table service. If I raised my voice I apologise but the lack of service or interest we received wasn’t acceptable. This was a a special day after 8 months of hardship for our family. Pre booked tables should take priority in my opinion or what’s the point in booking. Making us wait at the bar isn’t acceptable both when our table wasn’t ready or to order food and drinks. The restaurant was empty. 10 minutes or 20 I’m not splitting hairs. It’s still not acceptable. We could have easily been sat at another reserved table and things shuffled around but no. Non of my party heard any apology including me and even my father said “she really didn’t care did she.” All the recent low star reviews can’t all be wrong. The harvester was busy but they still managed to seat us straight away and serve us so I’m sorry but the issue is the Sun. It’s changed and not for the best.

Always been here must be new owners the manager was rude, the food was such small portions like for kids, I had some out of date rocket lettuce on my plate, toilets wow they am always lovely was a disgrace shit all down one toilet an on seat an toilet paper all over floors dirty sinks really dissatisfied was never like that before

Stopped off last Thursday on our way home. Was turned away as apparently fully booked, even though there seemed to be plenty of tables and I could literally go online and book a table for half an hour later. Went to the pub just up the road instead.

Lovely afternoon with family having lunch on my birthday

Food was ok and service alright, atmosphere is awful, don’t waste your money on the pub quiz either because it’s clear only locals are allowed to win. We left after people complained I was on my phone, which I didn’t deny, it was in Plain sight as I was running my business and reading about Donald trump\Russia - amazed at how competitive people got for a £30 bar tab, which we were going to give away anyway - miserable gits

Went for the childrens disco during February half term. The kids loved it. Great music and a goody bag each.

We attended the sonic and tails breakfast, was a fab morning my boys loved it and the staff are great. Foods always lovely and always a warm welcome 🫶 we will defo be visiting the events going forward x

The Sun Inn is a credit to the staff. Every single member of the staff & Management are really nice lovely people and make you feel very welcome. 🙂

Another fantastic kids event today, with a kids disco for half term. Nice to see this great pub care about families and the community, and had a meal and the food was fantastic. The chicken melts in your mouth. Big thanks to Diana and team, see you soon xx

The food was very good, everyone was served at the same time, at a previous visit we had table service this has now changed but it wasn't very clear that this had changed, Overall a good service provided by very busy staff. An additional member of staff working on the bar would be helpful to avoid the ques, but credit to the manager who was working very efficiently along side her staff.

Glad lunchtime menu back to normal with sandwiches and jackets and were very tasty and value for money. Staff were very friendly, extremely helpful and polite and all worked really hard to help customers and keep pub areas clean and tidy so good aesthetics of pub to relax in.

We had a 3 course meal and every course was beautiful! The portion sizes were spot on too. The service was great, staff were so lovely!! Would 100% recommend.

Attended as a group of six for tea. The pub was very quiet, which we thought was strange for a Saturday night. We ordered two orange j20's and a coke with no ice, received two apple j20's which were extremely warm, and a coke with ice. We then ordered food. The presentation was awful, the food all tasted Chargilled. The sausages were like rubber, and the chicken was hard. My mum ordered hunters chicken with chips and salad, and it only came with salad. They also forgot her onion rings and tomato, which was brought out later on. The food was merely warm...We visit the sun regularly and honestly today has completely put us off. When my mum confronted the waitress about her chips, she was rude and argumentative. It was really poor. I stood at the bar, and the staff continued to talk and ignored i was even there. The staff in general were rude. Really disappointed and won't be recommending the sun anymore.

Recently dined here during a week day. The place felt welcoming and you can even sit outside to dine if you wish. Staff were friendly and there was a nice relaxed atmosphere. The food was mediocre. Small portions, luke-warm soup with a stale baguette to dip in it, and for the main course, a tiny piece of chicken breat with frozen chips which had been deep fried too long and a little bit of salad (tiny piece of tomato and cucumber, sliced onion and some wilted lettuce leaves. I chose not to complain as I was dining with a friend who I hadn't seen in a while and on this occasion, did not want to make a scene. I would return in the summer to have a drink outside in the sunshine, but I would choose to eat elsewhere.

Valentines meal was advertised two courses on facebook for £17.50 but this was somehow lost. Disappointed as I booked in and it was all changed. The Sun website and menus for valentines night not at all clear.

Comfortable, warm, dog friendly pub. Food is good value for money. Great place for lunch and a catch up with friends.

We haven't been to the sun in a long time we decided to go yesterday evening as a pick me up from the dreary january weather. We waited a minute or two to be seated which was fine. We were seated in the conservatory part right by the back door which leads to a outdoor seating area. Which was not being used as the temperature was 3 degrees last night. But sadly this door was constantly being used as a walk through from the car park instead of the main entrance which has a double door to stop the cold draughts. We were freezing I left my coat on for most of the stay. There was a group of young teenagers I assume eating in the pub side of the resturant that kept running in and out of the door and holding it open talking to one and other I actually asked the one young lad to close the door as it was cold and the other group of people sitting buy us agreed and said it was freezing. I think during winter that door should be closed off to make eating in that part off the pub more comfortable for guests. The food we had was nice but we ate as quick as we could and left as we were so cold. The main entrance is about 10 to 15 steps from the back beer garden entrance so I don't see why it was not closed off it would save on energy bills to as the back part would stay was.

We were a group of 12 people, 6 are from a local care home in wheelchairs. Our table was very easy to access and we were given a very warm welcome. The service we received was amazing. Quite a few of our group had complex dietary requirements which was handled efficiently and easily. Our whole experience was excellent and very much enjoyed by everyone. Thank you.

Food was nice but drinks very expensive!! £8 for a glass of wine. Service slow. Not particularly busy but only one person serving behind the bar and one manager. We waited nearly five minutes to be seated despite the two staff members repeatedly walking past us, no acknowledgement or be with you shortly etc. also half hour wait for food with no warning. Lovely place but definitely needed more staff and price of drinks needs reviewing.

Despite it being a busy NYE service was friendly and professional. Food was lovely and plenty of it. No long wait and communication about the food, how to order etc was great. It got busier before we left and we could see how hard the staff were working to keep everybody happy. We will return in the new year for sure
