Visiting from France - fabulous food, helpful, attentive staff and nice and clean. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return!

Our first visit and the food was tremendous. All four of us were impressed with the obvious freshness of the ingredients and the dynamic tastes of the various dishes. Can’t wait to come again.

Waste of time. We was the only people in there and over an hour later no food. He kept saying 5mins, sorry only 1 chef but in our time waiting they sent 4 deliveries out. We left without eating and offered to pay for our 2 soft drinks and 2 poppadoms which they then wanted £12.50 for it. Certainly won’t be rushing back here.

be coming for years lovely food so thought we would try there sunday to thursday promotion. positives - the food was as good as ever totally yummy. negatives - waited a long time for the food which was odd as we were the only ones in there, but i think is was for us to order more drinks we had 4 diet cokes £16 total rip off so the £30 deal then came to £46. was not best pleased to be honest and spoilt what we think off this place

Been here many times and NEVER EVER fail! The food is Amazing, very very fresh and hot. Very well-priced as the portions are big. Chicken is good quality not full of water, like you find in other restaurants. The staff are very helpful and very very friendly indeed. Heard all about their new up-and-coming wine bar/restaurant that is coming to Wickford high street. the B52s at the end of our night was a great way to finish our night off. We also get takeaways from here, yes we do have to wait sometimes BUT 100% worth the wait! Always hot and again very fresh and often get free papadoms and dips. Also, this month have got 15% when I ordered online which is very helpful at these hard times. Thank you so much and good luck in the new restaurant! We Cant wait! Shame can't share in Wickford chit chat as always gets deleted.

Amazing place, don’t be fooled by the exterior, inside was lovely and clean. Had the Sunday buffet,(6 of us), was top quality, the owners wife was very helpful in helping us order and also qty’s, The starters came as a platter because she recommended us to try it all, and it was fantastic. The mains also hit the spot: Chicken shashlik ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chicken jalfrazi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chicken Dansak ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lamb madras (melt in mouth ) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Chicken vindaloo ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plus sides and breads ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We will be back, well worth a visit on a Sunday, and will now be my regular takeaway restaurant ..

Had the most amazing authentic mix of curry sides and rice starters and breads at the sultana in wickford , We have been to many Indian restaurants and used to frequent another but this is definitely ur new favourite thanks to the best food , amazing service so attentive and helpful and such good value will definitely be coming back loved it

Came here with my partner. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted poppadoms and if so how many. We assumed from this question that they would not be complimentary as they are in most Indian restaurants. The food arrived quickly and was nice. Although I would say the portion sizes were on the small side and there was not a lot of meat in the curries. When we got our bill we noticed that not only had we been charged for the 2 poppadoms but also the dip they came with so all in all we were charged £3.50 for 2 poppadoms. If we knew this we would not have ordered them. Also, we had ordered two amaretto and cokes. We were charged £4.75 for each single shot of amaretto which in itself is on the expensive side. We were then also given one charge of £1.95 for a splash of coke and another charge of £3. I queried this and £1 was deducted from the bill. It was almost £6 for one pint of beer. In my view the drinks are overpriced. All in all it wasn’t the worst experience but we did expect more. Probably wouldn’t visit again - the food is nicer from our usual takeaway Olive.

Ordered a take away on line from website which was accepted and stated would be an hour maximum. After more than an hour and no food rang restaurant where no one replied. Rang several times and still no reply. I. The end abandoned and got a pizza from local shop. Left a chat message at restaurant complaining. Got an apology next day stating restaurant was closed because of covid. Advised that all they had to do was put a message on website stating this, and people could go elsewhere.

Angry Manager double charged me and family food and drinks tried to correct the Manager but instead threatened me he will call the police I didn't pay which is not fair, starter took 1 hour to arrive but arrived called and starter had a piece of metal on the salad dressing which could've cut my throat, when I informed the Manager he said I apparently planted that for discounts. When the main course arrived the rice were stone called which I recall it was served on another and been sent back in the kitchen but instead they served it on our table that is such cheap service. On that note never coming back again. Unhygienic as myself as a chef I wouldn't recommend anyone it is am cowboy service.

Meal took 2 hours to get here. Despite delivering many times before, said they couldn’t reach the property. Spoke with manager who was aggressive from the moment we spoke. Asked him politely to speak more calm. Said I understood what’s stressful time this must be. To which he literally told me to p-off and hung up. We have been going there for 30 years, continued to go there out of loyalty but now will no longer be getting food here after the tonight. Very disappointed ☹️

I am quite understanding given the current situation with COVID-19 but we had an awful experience yesterday evening. We spent good money on a family takeaway for 5 people, however we waited 3 hours for our food. We ordered via just eat at 6.15 and we didn’t receive the order till 21.15. We chased the order at 2015 (2 hours after ordering) which I think is quite reasonable to be told it’s on its way not until 2100 did we then phone and ask if the driver was lost because it is a 5 minute drive from the restaurant to home. Eventually the food came and we were missing half of our order which was really disappointing because as you can imagine everyone was quite hungry by the time it came and we then had to share dishes around to ensure people got to eat. It was also cold when we received it. In fairness we have been in contact with the restaurant and they have offered to refund some of the cost which was great of them but I would have just appreciated our full order and in good timing. We have similar things have happened with this restaurant before, so unfortunately Sultana but never again for us.

This has to be the worst Indian takeaway food I have ever eaten. The biryani was devoid of any flavour. The accompanying vegetable curry not only had zero flavour, but also was the most unappetising dish I’ve ever seen. It looked like dirty dishwater. The only saving grace was the paneer tikka, not because it was great, but because it had SOME flavour. Not to mention that the delivery was an hour late, taking 2 1/2 hours in total from order time. While i appreciate the challenges in our current climate, the restaurant hanging up on us on our second call to check the delivery time left a bad taste in my mouth (if only the food could have changed that!). As someone who has travelled to India and eaten spectacular Indian food, this experience was abysmal.

Restaurant is temporaily closed due to Government restrictions so we had a takeaway. Excellent food, hot and tasty. We had Sheek Kebabs, Spicy lamb chops, butterfly chicken, Chicken Shaslick Buhna, Chicken Tikka, Lamb Balti, Lamb curry and Chicken Korma plus sundries. Superb

not eaten here for quite a while as I no longer live in the area, however we returned Saturday and enjoyed a lovely meal, Ash was attentive and amusing giving great hospitality and the food was very good

Have been to Sultana a couple of times Was ok, my meal was ok however my partner likes heat & spice in his curry & couldn’t taste any spice In his meal he was disappointed. Wine was nice, waiter was quite rude, a couple of mistakes were made so we will try somewhere else in future.

Standard on the takeaways is dropping, and now not going to bother returning as I'm sure this restaurant is in freefall if it doesn't sort its self out. Stupidly small starters, chicken overcooked. Come on lads sort this out as a few free popadoms just ain't going to cut it.

Sultana had been our Indian restaurant / takeaway of choice on and off over the last 20 years but our last 3 encounters have seen a sharp decline in quality. The last two takeaways had items missing as did a delivery. Food is definitely not as nice as it used to be and it seems the new owners can't live up to its glorious past.

We hadn't been to the Sultana for a while, and in the meantime, it has changed hands to a different family member.

The food was very good but the whole experience was suffered due to poor service and the uncleanliness of the restaurant. The wall paper was stuck up with blue tac and the table cloth was dirty when we arrived

Ordered a takeaway from hear did not turn up, should of know something was up when we ordered and could hear arguing and could not pay by card. They had no intention of fulfilling our order! An hour and a half still had not turned up. Ruined a birthday. Worst customer service, the Sultana put the phone down on us twice! So so rude and disappointing!

Always great food and service here. Never leave hungry! Food always well cooked and good atmosphere in the restaurant.

Once again an amazing meal. Such a relaxing restful environment. Whenever we need to relax and destress this is our go to place. Thank you Ash for an amazing evening.

Restaurant stated they would have my takeaway delivered within one hour. 90 minutes later, I am chasing the restaurant for my delivery. When it finally arrives, half of the order was missing. They then told me that they will send the rest within 15 minutes. The other half failed to arrive at all. I have therefore paid for a meal which I only half received. Other reviews state this is a good restaurant but that must be when you sit in there. Do not use for take aways.

The restaurant had advertised on its Social Media that they were putting on a special priced Saturday lunch menu till 6pm. This was due to it being Carnival day. My husband and I had finished helping at the Carnival and popped in.

Highly recommended! The owner was really friendly and enhanced our stay. The portions were extremely generous .

We made a reservation online about a week before, on the day we had some people cancel so we called the restaurant to let them know and also to move the time of the booking and they were extremely accommodating for us.

We’ve been coming to this Restaurant and having takeaways, for years. We were a bit concerned that as it was being sold the quality we were used to might suffer. However, I have to say, the quality has improved. We have just had the best meal ever. The environment, the staff, the food is exemplary and I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. And on the hottest day of the year, so far, the AC was much appreciated. Ash, and his staff, go the extra “mile” and it helps make the evening just that bit special. And to be introduced to the chef was the “icing on the cake”. Highly recommended.

This is the second time we have dinned in since the Sultana has been under new management (plus had 2 takeaways). The food is amazing, one of the best curries I have ever eaten. The staff are very personable and nothing is too much trouble. The ambience of the restaurant has also improved greatly. I can't fault the Sultana at all and will keep coming back.

Ordered a take away and when I went to collect it turned they had sent it with a driver and waited quite a while. Vegetarian dish had chicken in it and given garlic rice instead of onion rice. Frustrating when you look forward to your order. Similar errors a couple of months ago so stopped using until today. Guess that will be the last time.

Visited this evening, 3 of us. My partner had been the previous week with friends and raves about the meal; I hadn’t been for a long time as was underwhelmed on my last visit.

Went back to the Sultana last night with my hubby, as we knew it had been taken over and we had tried a couple of takeaways from there recently. We were still abit hesitant - but had no need, as the new owner (Ash) was lovely and friendly - and the food was delicious! You could tell it was made fresh and with good produce.

Have tried nearly every Indian in Wickford and this is by far the best one around. Ash the manager knows what he’s doing and the food is great.

Delicious dinner down to the dessert. There was one dessert I will have to try on the next visit as they had run out of cheesecake. Staff were extremely friendly and courteous. Serving sizes were just right and cost was average. Overall a great experience.

We had heard that the sultana was under new management so thought we would try. The food is delicious service was excellent and the prices are very good. Will definitely be going back.

Plumped for Sultana having not visited for many a year and was pleasantly surprised with the food and service, would definitely recommend.

This restaurant seems to have been here forever. Eaten there twice now but not really impressed. Traditional Indian, well Bangladesh food and the taste is good. Décor needs a revamp a bit tired now and generally it could do with a make over. Prices are ok and service is good and polite. Prefer the Bekash but you need a car to get there so being in the town centre it is very convenient.

A consistently good restaurant. Always nice food and reasonably priced, my only gripe is that there isn’t much room at the tables and you sometimes feel rather packed in with the other diners, but the food is always good and the staff pleasant. Reasonably priced also.

Two and a half hours is just too long to wait for a takeaway. They didn’t rush to me and I won’t be rushing back to them.

We came here recently for a Sat night meal, it wasn’t too busy and managed to get a table straight away, at first they seemed attentive and listened to our requests, but ..

We visit here every few months. Excellent food as usual. Value for money is reasonable. Service can be a little on the slow side, especially if the takeaway part is busy. Seating preference is to be more in the restaurant area rather than by the door - due to the busy take away service.

As I see someone else has said, the takeaway had hardly any chicken in it. Sauce was plentiful and tasty but could count chunks of meat in one hand. Not good enough I’m afraid. Will go elsewhere.

We tried this place last night, after a recommendation, and were not disappointed. Having had a few poor experiences lately we were starting to despair but Sultana has restored our faith.

I have been here a few times but the take away this week had almost no meat in it. I took out the meat from the dish and I am not joking , the tray was well over half full still of sauce. meat must be getting expensive as they have cut back and I will now try another restaurant

We have been coming to The Sultana now for over 30 years. Its our favourite, we have never eaten better anywhere we have been. Very good friendly service, excellent food,reasonably priced, and on our doorstep. How lucky are we? Love it here.

Was gutted upon receiving the bill here as we had a lovely meal with good food albeit slow service but thought we had found a lovely little gem until we saw the drinks prices. We had 3 large diet cokes and a bottle of water £16!!! Large coke wasnt on the menu at worst i would have thought a large coke wld be twice the cost of a normal but it was double and 50p more ! Absolutely extortionate for flat coke poured from a 2ltr bottle that probably cost £1 actually think it was cheaper to drink alcohol. Such a shame as food was pretty good but this just disappoints me as the drinks came to almost as much as my portion of the meal.

Visited recently for a family occasion and I believe I couldn’ve picked a better restaurant ! Staff were every inefficient and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing, especially the special dishes. Will definitely be returning as the whole family was amazed, even one of our party not a massive fan of Indian was outstanded and loved her meal. I highly recommend!!

Our favourite Indian restaurant. Very relaxed and friendly environment and excellent selection of Indian food. We come here to relax and chill. You’re not rushed and the staff are attentive. We also use their home delivery service and can’t fault it. We love this place and it’s our go to choice when eating locally. Highly recommended. Lovely to see it so busy tonight.

Whilst the decor is of a traditional style the food was good. Only been here the once as there are many Indian restaurants to choose from. Would definately visit again.

Ordered a takeaway from here for a change. Ordered the lamb madras. Was extremely oily and the lamb was chewy. My husband ordered a biryani which he said was ok - but you can’t go too wrong with that can you? It did seem cheaper than some of the other Indian takeaways however you don’t get any free popadoms or Bombay potato like some others offer.

This restaurant is out of this world. Staff are always friendly and service is great. Food is so good. We also use this restaurant for take aways and food is always delivered on time and tastes great.

The sultana is nice local curry house. The food and the service is always good and offer a range of very good chef specials. Yes the decor is a bit dated but that's part of the restaurant's charm.
