Sugarloaf Restaurant in Monmouthshire

Light and airy, dog friendly restaurant, with a lovely view over the Sugarloaf mountain, with a good choice of food. I had a Swiss Cheese and Mushroom Toastie with Coleslaw and it was delicious and good value for money. Highly recommended.

Relaxing restaurant in the garden centre, just right for a good cuppa.

£20 for 2 drinks and 2 breakfast baps with just one slice of bacon in each and one with a single sausage the other with a very snotty fried egg... disgusting prices and the staff used there fingers to handle the food after serving on till. Definitely will not be eating here again. Terrible.

A beautiful location. The food is very overpriced at £15.95 sadly, and very poor (3 small). turkey slices with the Sunday lunch. In contrast the vegetarian roast was large and tasty and good value at £13.95. The staff were friendly but unable to provide a larger turkey portion when we explained how disappointed we were with the quantity. The soft drinks are very expensive and served without glasses. It's a shame as we have eaten here in the past and enjoyed our food.

Exceptional variety of plants on offer, beautiful homewares and gifts. Georgeous food served at restaurant, friendly service.

Cafe extremely clean and tidy service not with a smile almost as if serving us was too much trouble. Over priced food. Bacon like rock only fresh food on plate was the egg. Mean on tea allowance a small pot of water would be advisable and courteous. Staff well a smile wouldn't go amiss occasionally.

Pub quality grub at an over inflated price, and service without a smile. Nice setting though.

Part of Raglan Garden Centre...Nice surroundings and kept very clean, enjoyed the fayre on offer, prices are slightly above average and is a popular venue for lunch, which is the only downside, from ordering to presentation took 35mins, quite a wait when you're hungry! My advice - get in early 😉

Sadly unable to taste hot meals as they had stopped cooking but the custard slice was superb.

I had a bacon sandwich my husband a sausage sandwich his was lovely and tasty my bacon was cold and hard difficult to chew normally very good must have been a bad day

The food was fantastic, i had a tuna and cucumber sandwich in brown bread, a few crisps, salad leaves and coleslaw. My daughter had a jacket potato beans and cheese and salad, we had a bowl of chips extra, a latte and cappuchino to drink, the price was reasonable for both. I had my scooter and got off to sit in a chair, plenty of room for my scooter as well.

Stale, dry cake. Bit of a disappointment really as I've never had a problem with them before. When raised with the server it was quickly replaced with a fresh piece from out the back. I'm guessing the whole cake on display was stale as it was quickly removed. That aside, service was faultless.

My Parents are both in there 90s and love to come to your lovely restaurant. I would like to say a big thank you to your staff for there kind and caring ways by helping to carry food and drinks for my parents, I am so grateful for the care you have given to my parents and they think the food is amazing. Tasty well presented and lots of choice, lovely clean restaurant and lovely Garden Centre. Although I haven't been myself my Mom and Dad Highly Recommend. So thank you again for helping my Mom and Dad enjoy there weekly visit.

Went with family who were visiting, the food was great,staff were very friendly and really helpful and polite nothing was to much trouble and the restaurant was spotless

£5.50 for a very sad looking sausage roll (see pic). Didn't think to check before buying (my mistake), but a bit of surprise at the till...seems very overpriced. Coffee decent, a teaspoon as standard on the side would have been nice, cutlery left out but teaspoons must have not been replenished. Environment comfortable with stunning views.

Come here with my mum very often as well as Birthday mothers Day afternoon tea and Xmas. Food is exceptional, fresh, good quality, very efficient service, great value, lovely atmosphere, love the Xmas decorations in the cafe. Waitress are always helpful and cheerful. Keep up the good work all.

Great popular place to go for a great meal and good value.

Emma is the shining star of the cafe. It is so unusual nowadays to get any sort of friendly interaction with servers and she was lovely. The service behind the counter was efficient and quick too. Our toasties looked attractive with side salad, pretty coleslaw and crisps. Our only niggle was that they were slightly soggy as undertoasted, but we enjoyed our visit to the well decorated and bustling cafe.

Nice cafe but a very long queue for food. The food was very nice but took a while to come.

Went today to there Christmas launch. Ordered a brie and cranberry toastie and a cup of tea, after half an hour a senior guy came to tell me no brown bread, a series of cheifs had not got things right! Ok, I will have white.... After another 20 mins a lady very panicked came to tell me no brie!!!! I agreed to having a coronation chicken sandwich as running out of time. After flagging to the guy. Then eventually arrived over an hour later. Three pieces of chicken in the whole sandwich! Goodness, there were from what I could see 9 members of staff on duty but all chasing their tails. I have run lunch time service for 300 covers with 8 members of staff for an hour! These guys need to sort their staff and more so operations!Il I wish them good luck.

I chose roast pork with cauliflower, roast potatoes, boiled potatoes and peas! One of the worst meals I have ever had, cauliflower was rock hard, the roast potatoes seemed as though they were left over from previous day, in fact the whole meal tasted as though it was warmed up! Previously, I'd had roast lamb and it was delicious, I won't be dinning there anytime soon, sad to say!

Shocking visited today after a year to try their breakfast again And to find just shocking bacon was as hard as concrete Beans must of came straight out of the tin cold the all breakfast was cold should of took it back but never never again. Charged us nearly £25 for this what a rip off not worth £10 It’s back to the secret garden for us pontypool where they do a great breakfast.

We had a delightful lunch here today. We were greeted by Jackie on the counter who was helpful in assisting us with our food options. The food itself was of good portions and excellent in quality and taste. The Welsh cakes to finish off our lunch were top draw. We'd definitely visit again. Thank you.

A spacious restaurant at the Raglan garden centre. Good quality food and service, prices average, a pleasant outdoor seating area with great views of the surrounding countryside and Sugar Loaf mountain.

The birthday afternoon tea was excellent and delicious. Big thanks to Stephen who made us feel welcome and looked after. All staff were very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended

Came in today and what a lovely experience. My wife and I both chose the vegetable lasagne with salad and chips and really enjoyed the meal Kelly was very attentive, nothing being too much trouble. My wife and I came in for lunch at12:40 p.m. and both chose the pork loin with Ratatouille at £13:50 each.The meal didn't include any potatoes or chips ( my wife needs carbs as she is diabetic),so we ordered a side portion of chips for an extra £3:50. The portion's when they arrived were most disappointing,like two children's meals.We thought the meals served were very poor value for money.( but they were enjoyable). Having lived in France for 20 years ,I would be most embarrassed taking French friends/visitors to this Garden Centre restaurant for a meal, primarily because of the poor choice available and portion size. Staff are very welcoming and the setting is quite lovely but I'm sure some improvement s can be made to the menu choice and size of the meals.

We had two meals both tasty and hot. The garden center is very tidy and well stocked but not cheep . We'll worth checking out the tent shop next door. Large free car park.

Had chips and pot of tea OK at £4.10. Cafe full of oldies as offers free pud and coffee with main course, for over 60's Monday to Thursday. Clean, efficient place, no real faults. NB this is an updated review from the days of previous management, the cut price deal has now gone to the great pudding home in the sky

Family lunch. Food didn't take long to arrive even though it was busy. One in our party had the lasagne, which was delicious, but not hot. Everyone else's food was lovely. I had prawn Marie Rose jacket potato with side salad/coleslaw, one had brie and cranberry toasties with salad and crisps and one had the special, creamy pork stew with rice - very tasty.

Breakfast was poor overcooked bacon , sausage. Coffee was good. Won't be eating there again!

I only had a decaf coffee as I cannot guarantee ingredients in food I haven't prepared (anaphylaxis) but my friend enjoyed her coffee and cake; when doesn't she 🤣😂 Found it a great experience and hope to return again soon.

A few things for the reason of this rating, 1 if you have two businesses on the same site please sync the clocks, the garden centre clock said the restaurant was open but the restaurant said it wasn't. 2 the breakfast roll was in a sweet brioche bun and we were told there was no other choice. 3 the menu said there was a gluten free option but when asked for a gluten free roll for the breakfast roll we were told it was only bread not a roll and when asked if the sausages were gluten free no one seemed to know. 4 when we did get the food it was lukewarm at best. It wasn't for the cheerful young lady at the till this would have been one star. It could be so much better.

I had a traditional breakfast and my wife had poached eggs on toast with a side of mushrooms. Both meals were delicious and served piping hot to our table by one of the very friendly and helpful staff. Good value for money and well worth a visit.

Lady who served me at the café was lovely,polite, kind and efficient even though it was very,very busy as it was Sunday lunchtime. Lunch was nice and portion size good. Although one cafe member of staff was rude we had literally just finished lunch and she said you only get one hour at your table . She was rude ,I couldn't see clear signs stating the one hour table limit. This can be difficult as we queued for twenty minutes for our food. I don't mind being informed of rules etc. But politeness costs nothing .she was rude and I was surprised at this as staff are usually lovely.

Lovely surprise on an impromptu visit to the garden centre. Really good, attentive and friendly service, we both had a Coffee each and the poached eggs that my Husband ordered were absolutely perfect!

Usual garden center coffee shop experience. Not a huge selection of cake, scone was average but cheese cake nice. Good coffee though. Update had sandwiches today, which were okay but not enough to gain a *, plus it wasn't cheap. Baguettes were 50p more on till than on menu. Cakes were £4.50 for very large size of cake, which I don't think normal

Would highly recommend afternoon tea here. Reasonably priced for the amount of food provided. We had to take some home as you lent eat it all. Catered for the fussy eaters in our group. Staff friendly and attentive. So glad I booked this for my birthday with family (30/08/22). Looking forward to returning to try the other food on offer.

Lovely lunch in gorgeous location. Fabulous freshly prepared food the tastiest steak, mushroom and Guiness pie with buttery mash piping hot and very large portion. Very large made to order ploughmans platter with warm rolls....enough to take home. Very friendly helpful staff and good prices. Highly recommend

This is my second visit to the cafe. The first time I had food and drink, both of which were very nice but service was slow. Today I only wanted two hot drinks. There were no more than 4 people in front of me and it took over 15 minutes to be served. There was no sense of urgency by the staff behind the counter. At one stage I counted 8 "serving"!

£19 for two cooked breakfasts was overpriced for what it was. Egg was undercooked, mushrooms were slimy and the fried tomato had only waved at the frying pan in passing. Not sure I'd go again.

Very good selection of both hot and cold food. Food quality is very good. Lots of staff serving and willing to help out. Would highly recommend this place whilst visiting the garden centre for either a meal, snack or light lunch.

Big queues quite slow service due to staff shortage. Sunday lunch looked good but they were not serving it at the time. We were not given the option of ordering it either.

Dog friendly around garden area. Restaurant has very small inside space for dogs to sit. Not all staff are friendly towards dogs, comments quietly said, some other staff are good. Very overpriced sandwiches, with little care given to how they are presented.

Arrived at the cafe at 11:10, the cafe clearly notes that breakfast is served until 11:15. As I was perusing the breakfast menu on display at the counter, it was swiftly pulled away saying they are no longer serving. No alternative could be given, and the manner and terse response from the front of house was very rude. Sadly, I won’t be visiting again.

Advised staff of allergy. Still found it in my food! Now I have to suffer the consequences. Thanks a bunch.

Lovely restaurant and garden centre, I would rate it 5 stars. the only issue is the lavatory next to the restaurant, the mens toilets were dirty and looked like they had never been cleaned.

We enjoyed a very good lunch. The Chargrilled chicken caesar salad was outstanding. Generous portion of Fish and chips.

Well where can I begin? i have been coming to raglan garden centre for many years and stopped visiting when wyevale took over as the food had lost its appeal. but after hearing good things about the restaurant I decided to give it another go and all I can say is wow the food was far better then any restaurant in the surrounding areas and we have been to them all, we could not believe the quality of food that came out of that kitchen!! It was like we was at a fine dining restaurant. It’s Amazing to have somewhere like this on the area again and let me tell you something we will be spreading the word even more to all Our friends and family whoever is behind this magnificent change must be a magician We cannot praise the staff enough even the customer service was amazing with a very friendly welcome Glad to see the restaurant returning to its former glory Many thanks Archie

Just had a lovely lunch at Sugarloaf. Best Ploughman's I've EVER had. Lovely bread and cheese. Yum 😋 Only drawback was the queue to order but it was worth it. Very child- friendly too.

Waited an over an hour for a tuna sandwich. I’d drank my coffee long before my food arrived. The staff just kept capitulating to one another on how busy they were, and no apology when they served us. Absolute chaos!!

Terrible service. Asked about dinner, only to be informed that they have no clue when the food would be ready to serve. I'd give this place a lower rating if I could.

Me and my family went to have breakfast there, only to be turned away because it was one minute till the breakfast time was over. When asked about dinner they said they didn't know when the food would be prepared. Unorganised and sloppy.
