Subway in Exeter

It's like walking into a psych ward in the mornings lol

Firstly, staff were lovely and prepared the food quick, despite tables being a little dirty - had no problem with that. Self service machines were an absolute joke. If you want to come to subway to customise a sandwich specific to you - this is not the place. Programme gives you an option to ‘create your own sub’ but that is merely a charade, a deception of the highest magnitude. Click that option and pre-made sandwiches are presented to you, very obviously contradicting the conception of a unique customisable sandwich. Having been forced to select an option that just barely resembles and is almost unrecognisable to the ideal sandwich idea I possess in my mind, I proceeded further and some semblance of creativity arrived in the form of merely choosing bread and extras. Never ordering from self service machines again. Food arrives promptly, and I am handed a ‘footlong’ subway bacon and cheese melt the size of a fruit pastilles tube. Almost no bacon, drowned in melted cheese and onions. Dissapointed, most unpleasant subway experience in my life.

Staff are awful. And they don't change their gloves or knives. For example I had a steak and cheese melt but where it had been cut there were meatballs stuck to the ends. And I had to pay cash so they took my cash have me my change and then went on to serve someone behind me but didn't take their plastic gloves off after handling the money? Disgusting.

My cheese and lettuce Sub was the best.

Thought the service was quite rude and rushed.

Awful experience 2 staff members was very rude waited 7 minutes to be served, tables were dirty, no enthusiasm to serve anyone, asked to clean the table so I could eat in and gives me blue roll so I had to clean the table

We were waiting for 10 mins and there was no queue or anyone on the front, we called out if anyone was there, someone came forthhand shouted they had things to do instead of coming to the till

Ugh, never going back to this place! The person (a white female) helping me had this attitude from the get-go, and it stuck around the whole time. She was in a rush, and the menus were all over the place—so confusing! When it came time to pay, she had no clue the promotion had ended. Like, seriously? If you work there, shouldn't you know how the deals work and whether they're still on? Ended up paying more than I was originally told. Not cool at all.

Went in again yesterday because the children wanted to try subway sandwich. The lady staff served us(1801) with an attitude, very impatient, wouldn't allow pepperoni on kids sandwich, no explanation given - he had food sensory issues and refused to eat the tuna alternative I chose for him because we went in for pepperoni and salami. The day before I went in with him and was served by a wonderful staff : 0116 and he was given exactly what we ordered. The whole experience is only as good as the staff you get and not the overpriced Footlong. Never going in again.

Delivery was good on time but my wrap disappointing for £5 and Sandwhich was was messy with salad and sauce covering it.

I once found myself lost in Exeter, I had no idea where I was, and then I found Jacob at Subway, he made me the best sandwich you could have ever imagined. Service with a smile! All Subways should have a Jacob. Until we meet again, keep up the good work! ❤️

Retro Madness absolutely brilliant blast from the past LOVE IT

Used to love subway but their new menu is confusing, restrictive and just wastes my time. Bring back the old menu and I'll come back.

Awful in everyway. From the microwaved 'crinkle cut chips' which they tried to refuse as an 'upgrade' to my meal deal. They found it when I challenged them, which consisted of me reading it off their own advert. No toilets. No seating at night.

Best part is that it's open all the time so midnight food cravings are not going to hurt your pocket

Tried the Subway on Sidewall St in Exeter. Service was good and the food was fine.

This restaurant opens 24 hour which is quite good if you're hungry in the middle of the night. However, contacless payments were not allowed last night, plus if you choose a sandvich from the menu, it is not allowed to add any other topics with charge, also not allowed to add any souce, sorry but very disappointing rules have this restaurant.

Will not be going again. The person serving me started with an attitude that lasted throughout. I had vouchers and I was basically "told off" for not knowing that it wasn't bottled drinks and then for not hearing him say it. I was on my own with 2 young children and this was meant to be a treat yet felt like a task. First time and last time going

Ordered a foot long chicken and bacon, manager serving put 2 bits of bacon on and 2 half scoop ls of chicken, questioned it and was ignored, came out the grill I questioned it again, he looked at the sub and said it was standard potion, despite the fact it was half bread. I walked out, will not return.

The kind, helpful lady behind the counter made the experience much better for us. We were tired and hungry after a busy day. Nice place.

Card machine didn't work and the sandwich was soggy and didn't taste "fresh"

Went for a snack with a friend got served by this young gentleman serving us unfortunately didn't follow food safety guidelines as we were watching him dealing with other customers, handling money, making food, touching his hair without sanitising his hands. Which personally I think it's disgusting and unhygienic and if it happened anywhere else he would be repremanded. And when my friend confronted him he gave some excuse while not changing the disposable gloves every time he served a different customers. Personally I think it's not a bad subway but I will not return if this young gentleman is working. It's enough to put anyone off their food. Sorry guys.(8pm 19/10/22)

Tiny, opens late, very friendly staff

Got a spicy Italian sub yesterday morning, I was served by Shoebob(not sure if that's the spelling but that's the name I got from his colleagues this morning). That sub was peg, absolutely did the job after a 3 hour workout sesh, he was super patient with me and my questions about the topping and by the time I got home there was nothing left of the sub. Dman good spicy salsa and (I think) picked jalapeños. 420 out of 69 would devour again, no cap

Would someone like to tell me how only 2 members of staff - one serving customers in the wrong order whilst letting heated food get cold, and the other ignoring customers and making online orders - are supposed to manage this sidwell st. store at 3:30 on a Sunday? The floors were filthy, tables dirty, and online orders stacked on the back bench waiting for pickup. Fillings mixed together, girl didn't have time to change her gloves for a vegan order. High tables where the customer queue should be. Franchise owner should be ashamed. Apparently queen st. store is just as bad.

Went in and didn't have what I want so ordered something else staff was cocky and not helpful even had to pack me own bag as asked for a bag not good

Thomas (the front of house manager) refused the blue light discount card which I know was accepted in other Subways. And had an all-round rude and disrespectful attitude towards the customers.

Can’t get orders correct when using just-eat or deliveroo. Always missing sides, drinks, etc. Doesn’t re-read orders to make sure it’s correct, i.e. toasted, untoasted, which sauce, etc. End up tossing most of it. Tried to call to get a refund for missing items. Left us ringing for ten minutes (called multiple times). Disappointing as this is the second time this has happened now

Staff are very young, under trained and overwhelmed. Worst subway meal we've ever had. Chips were old, cold and inedible.

Just sitting in here now , 4 members off staff behind the counter chatting . One man filling the drinks fridge . The tables are filthy , they all have finished wrappers and cups on them where the customer has left them . If it wasn't for the fact that it's raining and I'm waiting for a lift, I wouldn't have even come in here 🤮

Good quality subway, staff are always friendly but can be extremely busy (20+ minute wait) around lunch time (12.30pm-2pm). Good quality ingredients compared to most other subways

I've never had a subway I didn't like. Decent snack. Good for lunch.

The sub was brilliant, I savoured every morsel. Only problem is that your employee, nick (or as I call him, Spooky Nick) slipped a spooky sauce into my sandwich. I understand it is Halloween but Nick is so bloody spooky it hurts. He’s so spooky. It’s insane. Good sandwich though, spooky fillings aside.

Well I thought subway in my country were the only ones having misleading ads, showing the sandwich filled with the meat type ordered. While in reality you can barley taste it coz of how little they put… Whooo that was a relief (the miss leading ads are a global issue) now I’ll never order from subway in any place in the world. Also the only crispy thing about their crispy fries is your imagination.

Staff were friendly but not the best sandwich

Come in for a quick breakfast on the 29th at around 5/6 am before departure, the staff here are extremely rude, haven’t informed us about the oven not working before, the store is very dirty l, the staff rather than cleaning up he decided to go outside for a cigarette with some people. The food has been prepared very badly (vegetables fallen out of the bread and the bread is falling apart!!!!

I have seen roadkill look more appealing, also roadkill gets treated better than the sandwiches from a certain team member of this subway

Favorite place to eat. It's quick and easy to grab on the way home. The staff are always welcoming and friendly when making the subs no matter how busy they are and are always willing to make whatever you requested

Great food, used deliveroo for two foot long subs, nachos cookies and drink. Was a lot better than last time as the nachos had a good amount of cheese and sauce, only down side was that I didn't receive one of the cookies I ordered but was replaced with a different flavour.

Five Stars for the staff working at lunchtime on 14th October, friendly helpful and a very nice salad. Had I left the review on Wednesday 13th it would have been a 1Star. The lady behind the counter was grumpy, did not want to be there. When I asked if I could have the meat for my salad heated she seemed almost offended by this and not happy at all. Please take note Subway. What a difference a day makes!

Salad added by young girl using gloved hands then took money and used till then went back to preparing more food wearing the same gloves. Tables not wiped down after other people vacated their seats

Perfect, cheap food for students or cheats days, but not much else. As a chain, subway standards differ vastly in standards depending on where you visit. This one lands somewhere in the middle. Hygiene wise, it is clean enough, but I wouldn't want to sit inside of the store to eat my food. Depending too on the time you go to the store, the service can take a while. A wait is to be expected. Everything is satisfactory, but not amazing, which, in all fairness is to be expected from a subway store anyway. You should lower your expectations and you won't be disappointed.

While I used to rate this location quite highly, I have found of late it is going downhill. I usually go in the morning to get something to take for lunch... and many bread types are not available and what there is has got quite stale. Now if you are having a toasted sandwich that wouldn't be such a big deal, but as I am buying a sandwich for later, I don't want it toasted so freshness is very important.

Unhappy and rude staff.. the old lady working at sidwell street branch seems rude and unhappy... not even listen to us what we need to add in our menu.. not wearing a name badge ..so dont know the name... more customers already reported the same issue before ....

It's really awful...the sub is ok but they need bit more customers service...sub is expensive but they put only little bit of salads and just one line of sauce ,then iam asking for extra sauce shes looks different 😣😣

Not amateing neither was it bad, Ms Mate asked for the new vegan meatball marina but with the normal cheese as the vegan one brings her out in a sweat! She loved every moment of it but before long she had her head out the window panting like a sick dog! On the plus side it was the quietest road journey ever!

I am a middle aged woman who happens to be a traveller stranded in the early morning at 4 am at this place to wait for a further bus connection. I felt like having something to eat and was advised by the bus driver that this is one of the 2 shops which happens to be open in the city of Exeter around this time. As I arrived, it was crowded, so I queued up in front of the till to pay the 7up I took from the fridge and to order some food. As I was the 2nd time ignored and other customers who arrived later were served, I was asking why I am not being served. The two young men, both in the age of my children, told me in a grumpy tone that I am being at the wrong place. There are no signs visible where to queue to order food, ( which is usually in a walk-in restaurant at the till ) but I am told off that I can't guess? Sorry??? And then being told in a tone like a 3 year old child??? Is that what you understand as a customer service??? After sitting down and the people leaving in groups the restaurant, it was utterly dirty, but instead of cleaning, the staff had chats with each other about girls ( I can tell you exactly what they said ) with a friend of them who visited, and even after this friend ordered and left, I couldn't see them cleaning the utterly dirty store - a fact you can see on CCTV. Worst ever.

Have popped in a few times and have never had any issue. Yes at times there is a queue but the staff manage them well. This one is larger than the one in Queen street and has more seating - so is better for larger families.

I will never go back . The woman who works there ( older lady with tattoo and no teeth ) should be nowhere near a job that involves interaction with other people. Actually barks at you and exchanges zero pleasantries with you. She was rude to everybody in the queue. Use another branch

Unhappy staff - once lady is always especially unfriendly and sounding like she's trying to rush you out the door - and an atmosphere that somehow manages to feel lifeless, even when the place is busy. The quality of your sandwich greatly depends on who's making it, and it's very inconsistent overall. They seem to literally throw ingredients on without care for if it's actually going to remain inside the sandwich when they close it. I would give three stars, but I'm giving only one because of hygeine - I saw the staff handling my sandwich last week find a dead slug in the lettuce they put in my sandwich, but all they did was pick it up out of my sandwich, grimace and throw it in the bin. They kept that lettuce there, knowing I just watched that happen, and didn't bring it up - they just asked me if I wanted any sauce. I was floored.

This is probably more of a review of the young man who served me and my family this Sunday morning. As far as I could see he was alone in the shop. The place had been cleaned immaculately, and we're talking about after a Saturday night!! He was polite, courteous and very quick to serve us and complete the order!

As with all Subway's they do good sandwiches and reasonable meal deals. This one is 24 hour. The staff are friendly and service.is fast, even when busy or late at night.

Meant to write this the last time I went there, and I think his name is Daniel (couldn’t read his badge properly) anyway it was around 8:15 on both occasions. Waiting for the National Express with my son to go to London for an important and stressful medical appointment both times. Anyway I didn’t have a lot of time before coach due to arrive and felt quite nervous and desperate for a coffee. Daniel served me and was so upbeat and pleasant, immediately made me feel better and calmed my nerves. Especially when he informed me I would get a free cookie with my coffee! He was like this with everyone, even though he was busy and under pressure, he was calm, professional and efficient. A totally lovely individual. It is certainly worth paying that branch a visit, if only to meet Daniel! He certainly brightened up my day at a difficult time. Coffee and cookie were good too. I hope Subway management appreciate you Daniel.

I don't know the name of the young male who appeared to be managing early this morning (4 January) but a big shout out to him. My friend and I needed to kill two hours between midnight and 2am before she boarded a bus for London. We'd already eaten so all we bought was tea and cookies (in fact I think the cookies came with the teas). The member of staff was great, very pleasant and smiling throughout our visit. My friend is 7 months pregnant and had her two year old son in tow; even though the site doesn't have customer toilets he allowed her to use the staff toilet. Subway and their staff get a lot of grief but this one particular chap deserves to be recognised. Oh, and it wasn't because my friend is pregnant, he was just as cheerful with all other customers. Well done and thank you.

The ingredients didn’t seem to fresh, bread was ok, customer service was ‘ok’, fruit shoot on the drinks dispenser just tasted like purple water, and one of the employees could be heard swearing about how no one fill’s up the sugar pots on dayshift.
