Street Urchin in Manchester

Had a fantastic meal here yesterday, great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable service and tasty food. A group of six of us shared 7 small plates and 3 sides and it was the perfect amount, all dishes cooked to perfection. My first time here and I'll definitely be returning.

Just go, you'll not regret it. We were here NYE and despite the evening being a wash out, Street Urchin provided an oasis of calm, warmth and culinary excellence, all wrapped up in a friendly, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere. If I was to find any fault it would be how hard to make a decision about what to have from the menu - maybe that's why they let you have a heads up if what's on offer earlier on the day of your booking.

From the moment we walked in on a rainy new years eve we were given a warm and friendly greeting and this great service continued throughout our meal. Menu and drinks order taken very quicky even though they were busy as was our food order. Staff knowledgeable the menu items. When food arrived well presented and cooked beautifully. We were very happy with out visit from start to finish would definitely come back!highly recommend thanks guys.

Amazing place!! Just wish I’d tried it sooner! Great service, lovely staff. The food is fab! The menu was emailed to us on the morning of our booking, which was a lovely touch! Lots of choice on the main menu and the specials. All of the dishes we ordered were delicious! The Manchester Moneybags for dessert were a favourite!

The restaurant has a stunning interior, but unfortunately, the service was super slow, and the food didn’t live up to expectations. We ordered the duck leg and beef veal strip loin . While the plates looked great, the food was disappointing. The duck leg was dry, the beef lacked flavour, and the potatoes on both plates were undercooked so as the carrots—even the thinly sliced ones with the duck. The crispy wild mushrooms with the beef were amazing, and the sauce was delicious. The wine was also excellent, but overall, not enough to make up for the rest.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Beautiful place, lovely staff and very different and interesting dishes, all cooked to perfection. My new favourite restaurant.

A five-star restaurant in the city centre and well-received Ancoats area. The portions are significant even for small plates. Excellent wine selections and fantastic seafood dishes. I like the sauces and the sides come with the dishes. Economical and inexpensive for such a quality foods.

First visit to this wonderful little restaurant in town and certainly will not be the last! The food is prepared and cooked by the excellent team in front of you. One of our party is vegetarian but had several choices to go for. Starting with Cod cheeks which were simply the best I have ever tasted and followed by a treacle basted pheasant take on a Christmas dinner which was simply stunning. That was me done and believe me I have a healthy appetite. Another little touch not seen that often anymore is the absence of a service charge and no pressure to tip staff, obviously we did as the standard was as exceptional as the food. Well done 👏

This place is epic. 4th time I've been now over last couple years. Always top notch. Proper portion sizes. Fish always superb. The chef creates some magic in the kitchen 5 🌟 & they don't automatically add a service charge for our group of 3 which I appreciate, and leave a good one! Couple bottles of cracking wine. About £80 pp each all in with 3 courses each. Stuffed😃

Second time visiting and it won’t be the last. Amazing food that is of a very high quality. The menu is always changing and is very inventive. Service is always friendly. It is a relaxed dining experience and one to not rush. Between two of us we had three small plates and one big plate followed by two desserts. We shared everything which allowed us the enjoy a wider variety which was great because it was so hard to choose it was all so delicious. A great experience and I can’t wait to come back when I’m next in Manchester.

Found this restaurant on Trip Advisor. It was a bit late in the evening and was pleased to see their were a couple of empty seats and a great looking menu. Very pleasant staff member informed me that the kitchen was closing and I was too late. It was a great looking venue, so I left a little dejected. Just around the corner I found Surf and Soul, they serve Cajun style chicken and seafood. I was pleasantly surprised by my first experience of 'Soul' food, but will revisit my original choice ASAP.

Street Urchin is one of Manchester’s hidden gems and is an excellent restaurant serving hearty & delicious meals. Uniquely, there is no menu online, as it can change daily, and I received a photo of their menu on their blackboard with a list of mouth watering (& creative) dishes that shows a clear respect of and passion for high quality local ingredients (i.e. wild mallard). The restaurant’s concept is simple: a range of small plates and large plates as well as the specials and desserts. The service is very friendly however our main dishes took much longer than we would’ve liked, which can be attributed to everything being cooked from scratch plus it was a busy night (despite being mid-week). We were a table of 3 and everyone loved both their small and large dishes choices. The mains dishes were not only delicious but huge too, which was lucky because we were all starving! Street Urchin is now one of my fav restaurants in Manchester and shall definitely return again.

This is some of the nicest food I’ve ever eaten. Really enjoyed our meal. Will definitely be going back.

Probably the best seafood restaurant in town. They changed their menu in every few months, so I usually check them out quarterly.

Simplemente lo adoramos aquí - y sin duda volveremos la próxima vez que visitemos.

Really friendly and informal service for unexpectedly big portions of great food and quite honestly a pescatarian's dream. Pigeon with smoked beetroot and walnut was a beautifully inspired combination, but where they really seem to shine is their seafood. Delighted to see whole gurnard on the bone with the courage to pair it with salsify, and beautifully juicy scallops in a melting curry veloute you could drink by the bowl full set off beautifully by crisp shreds of samphire. The menu seems to change by the day which is fantastic as it gives me a great excuse to go back. 😉

Excellent meal in a friendly cosy setting. I had the creamy seafood bisque. It was packed with flavour with a great amount of seafood including mussels, crab wontons and a large piece of perfectly cooked coley. A fantastic dish. For dessert I had the mango kulfi with pineapple fritters. It was delicious and light, a perfect end to the meal. The service was excellent. A wonderful experience.

Once again, absolutely exceptional. Food was incredible, staff were friendly, attentive and really helpful. Love the decor and plants - the atmosphere was warm and relaxing. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, this is hands down one of the best places to eat in Manchester.

Absolutely incredible food; every bite was a genuine wonder. The care and attention that the chefs put into each individual element is so evident, and the servers were incredibly attentive and kind. Me and my partner recently discovered street urchin and it quickly became a favorite spot for us. The rotating specials menu makes every vist new, normally including seasonal fish or meat. The dishes are always high quality, taste fresh, and you can tell that the chefs put in a lot of care into the dishes. Although slightly on the pricey side for us as students, I think the price is completely fair. There's also a range of meat, fish and vegetable dishes based on your dietary preferences. The atmosphere is cosy and quaint, again we can see the care taken to the environment making sure it's clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive. If you're in Manchester I would 100 percent recommend coming to street urchin if you can. Particular shout out to the raw monkfish, one of the best appetizers I've ever had.

This place is absolutely unreal, the food is of such high quality, the prices are so good. I had the crispy monk fish and my friend had the scallops. There was so much on the plate, an absolute feast. The staff were so attentive, I was really hot and they brought me a fan, they constantly top up your water. A must go to if you are in Manchester. We will definitely be going back.

The food is amazing!! High quality and made with love. Two of us ordered 2 small and 2 large plates then 2 desserts and shared everything. It was perfect I don’t think you could order a bad meal and i loved being able to share for more variety. The menu changes daily and is emailed to you which was really helpful. The service was really friendly and efficient everything flowed smoothly and before we knew it 2 hours had passed. It is a small place so I recommend booking. Can’t wait to return when next in Manchester.

We visited because of the excellent reviews and the location. We were celebrating our son moving to the city. Loved the design with all the hanging plants, it felt relaxed and not noisy so easy to talk. There was a buzzy, warm atmosphere. I wasn't sure what my husband would think of the menu because he can be fussy and doesn't eat much seafood but he chose the lamb and said it was delicious. I had the small plate of mussels, which was enough for me- a beautiful creamy sauce and bread to mop it up. My son had the crispy monkfish which was beautifully presented and had a variety of subtle flavours. We chose 3 different desserts so that we could try each others and loved them all- a moist coconut cake, treacle tart and little manchester tart parcels. The service was excellent. We would definately recommend and will return when we have another occasion to celebrate or just fancy a really good meal in a great setting.

Such a great place! The food was both unusual and exquisite and the service was really friendly. It's a small space but didn't feel cramped. Will absolutely be going again!

Absolutely loved our dining experience at this Manchester gem! Despite not having a booking, the very accommodating staff found us a great table. The ambience was lovely, setting the stage for a delightful evening. The menu was imaginative, offering tasty and interesting flavors that were far from your average fare. The desserts were both delicious and well-priced. Special shout-out to the lovely maître d' who made us feel very welcome. The only downside was that service was a bit slow, but given how busy they were, it's understandable. Overall, a fantastic spot worth visiting!

Don't waste your time - or money! Food is okay, but certainly not worth the prices. What was most shocking was the service: unapologetically slow despite the place being empty. We had to ask the lady with a short red bob several times to come over and collect the empty plates, then had to almost beg for the desserts menu, then had to ask again for her to come over to actually be able to order the dessert. Appreciate the laid back atmosphere, but as said, those prices most certainly require better service.

We finally had the pleasure of dining at “Street Orchin” this evening, after several attempts hampered by their Monday and Tuesday closures. It was well worth the wait! From the moment we walked in, we were struck by the simple yet cool decor, which perfectly set the tone for the evening. The food was exceptional—each dish was unique, flavorful, and showcased the chef’s evident passion for cooking. The desserts were equally delightful and distinctive. The service was impeccable. Both waitresses were friendly, polite, and attentive, enhancing our overall experience. The prices were very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food and service. Overall, our experience was incredibly enjoyable and left us eager to return. We highly recommend “Street Orchin” to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Our friend whose birthday it was is gluten intolerant and she wrote down everything on the menu that she can have and explained it all to us. I was undecided on what to eat and she recommended a dish that I thoroughly enjoyed, it was amazing. a credit to your team and everyone else was amazing. thanks so much!

Little trip to Manchester was topped by the visit to this stunning restaurant. I had a pork t-bone as a main, my wife had rock bass and a mackerel small plate ……… tho they were certainly far from small! We both had a lovely dessert, a sort of more spongy brownie, delicious! If you like food, go here!

Absolutely delicious meal. We had three small plates and one large plate between the two of us. We opted for the large special dish which was lobster. It was the best lobster we have ever had, very tasty and tasted very fresh. The wine was also great and there was a lovely choice. The service was impeccable and the waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Perfect place for a date night! Highly recommend for anyone looking for fresh and high quality food!

This family run restaurant is a little out of the city centre but definitely deserves a visit. We've been there quite a few times now and always leave having had a lovely evening. The secret is out so booking is strongly recommended. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a Thursday and it was already ticking over nicely with a terrific atmosphere. There isn't a menu as such but a couple of chalkboards with the days specials on. On this occasion we had the skate wing which was done with ginger and was absolutely amazing. The veal scallop was also brilliant and both were big portions with really well matched accompaniments. The wine list is carefully thought out and not expensive. The services is also top class so a visit here is highly recommended.

After an afternoons walk to Salford Quays on a beautiful sunny day, we wanted a seafood dinner, and chose Street Urchin, a small private restaurant that specialises in seafood and game dishes. They have made the most of their bijou space...turning a concrete box into an intimate and cosy dining room, over 2 floors. There are no table menus, all the information you need is written on the large blackboards ....so they can be regularly updated or changed. We selected the crab thermidor and the haddock and clam chowder from their small dishes, and the seared sea bass and the rare t bone pork from their large.  Here a warning...if you are from London...do not expect their small to be that! They are equivalent to a main course! The balance of flavours, the use of ingredients....they were both excellent. We started to worry if we would manage our mains!! And then they arrived! They were superb. The sea bass was flaked and perfectly cooked, the pork in it cider sauce was tender and full of flavour. Another win.  So...we did find room for dessert...I went for the almond and coconut cake and hubby went for the sorbets.. strawberry daquari and mango, ginger and vodka. I turned down the Manchester money bags as I didn't have enough room...but deep fried filo pastry filled with custard with jam!!! That's Def for next time. The cake was warm and moist... exactly as it should be, the sorbets...you could happily drink them! A huge congratulations to Kevin and Jetan, Milana, Roxanne, Rachel...you made our evening. I've never said this before, but I'd move to Manchester just to be able to eat here.

Nice place with a very quirky menu. A bit gutted I didn't go for the squirrel, but I thought lamb was a safer option, would prefer if it had been cooked more, it was quite rare. Pretty pricey too.

Loved the decor/hanging plants. Attentive & friendly service! The gravlax lacked flavour but we loved the scallops special, the sauce/ mash were outstanding.

Had a fabulous meal at Street Urchin recently. Service was brilliant, staff were attentive, atmosphere and setting lovely and the food for both of us was superb! I had Celeriac, Leek and Spinach filo pastry Wellington with charred broccoli, pinenut salad and watercress cream and my partner had braised beef short ribs with a very very tasty mash.

We visited as part of trip to Manchester and highly recommend. There was such a great variety of options on the menu and love the concept that it changes daily. The food was genuinely delicious and would love to return. The service was top tier, a must visit restaurant!

Among the best fish restaurants in Manchester. Very nice and well-kept location. The dishes are a mix of different ingredients, sometimes a little too "pushed" and disjointed. Good service. However the place offers fresher fish than the Manchester average. Medium/high prices.

Absolutely bloody brilliant. Food looks amazing and tastes amazing. A great independent restaurant that you need to try. My first visit today. I will be back without hesitation.

Very good British market food that changes often, amazing flavours!

Really interesting mix of food dishes to try. You can see and taste the effort that goes into them. Tried cuttlefish for the first time (like rubbish calamari) and the Braised Beef Short Rib was quite impressive! My kids can be fussy eaters, but we're eating things that they wouldn't normally go for and enjoying them because they were done so well. The staff I felt could have been a little more attentive, and there was this really odd moment when we first arrived where a server said something to my son in a way that was borderline unnecessary, (but can't completely confirm it was meant the way it sounded). I would recommend the restaurant, simply for the range of interesting food on offer.

Like the decor though it’s a bit weird, old fashioned may be but cute. We had our starter however main came after 45 mins. We didn’t complaint as we’re enjoying our drink and it was kind of busy. Eventually our main arrived which was delicious and the waitress told us that they’re going to knock off our bottle of wine from the bill for main being late which was a lovely gesture. I’ll definitely go back.

What can I say… this was excellent. Had small plates to start which were fabulous. The mains were equally delicious. Service was excellent. We will be back.

Seafood focused restaurant. Menu changes quite often so always something new to try. Service is great and the food is amazing too. Restaurant isn’t huge so seating is limited. Make a reservation if you can but we got there on a Saturday afternoon when they just open and managed to get a table. Would come back to try other items on the menu.

I think this is my sixth visit and once again this place nails it. For the seafood/fish lover this place excels with something familiar on offer but also something different. For the meat lover there are always a few great options. Last night I wanted to try most of ten starters and mains. The wines were delicious and the team are lovely. I wish I could come more often. Keep doing what you you do Team SU!

Restaurant on the main street in ancoats / near town. Visited during the weekend around lunch time - make sure to make a reservation. If you have pets, they're allowed but make sure you tell the restaurant in advance otherwise they get very picky (we went with our dog and forgot to tell them in advance so when we arrived, they said that we can bring him but if it dirties the carpet under the table, we have to pay for it. Not sure why they didnt just give us a different table without carpet underneath). Menu has some unique dishes and meats - it changes on a regular basis. I ordered the partridge and it was ok. A little dry but overall taste was good.

Wowser ! What a great dining experience. Travelling in from the airport, I decided to stay overnight in Manchester just to have dinner here ! I was not disappointed. Warm welcome and front of house service is excellent. The menu is always so daringly different. Very imaginative. Different combinations of textures and flavours. Global flavours ! Menu changes very frequently with an accent on fresh fish and seafood. Dishes are also very well presented. Menu is on a chalkboard, and the variety is amazing - very talented chef and team. They also have a specials board. The wine lost has grown substantially, and there are some cheeky little wines on there , carefully selected, with some surprises! A wonderful dining experience. Thank you. I believe that they serve the best food in Manchester.

Absolutely amazing, from a waitress point of view the service was incredible I couldn’t ask for better. The food was amazing, everything was explained felt comfortable and well looked after. The food is worth every penny. Definelty come down and visit.

One of the highest calibre meals we’ve had in Manchester, a fresh seafood delight. Even the dressing on the side salad was fantastic which shows that all aspects of the meal were thought out. At the pricier end but portions more than make up for this, didn’t even have space for dessert which is really saying something. Restaurant downstairs is slightly strangely laid out which means that one of you is likely to be just facing the street - this is really the only thing I could think of that could be tweaked perhaps. Would definitely come here again and highly recommend for anyone in Manchester looking for high quality food which is also filling.

Firstly, an amazingly relaxed space. The brutalist concrete interior is softened with lots of plants and greenery and quirky furniture and finishings, making it an unique dining space. We were shown a table upstairs, which was perfect. Excellent service from friendly staff, who seem skilled and intuitively able to deliver their very best. The food....is simply exceptional, using the best market ingredients of the day. One of the best dining experiences I've had.

Amazing restaurant. Starters/small plates. I had trout crudo with orange slices and slivers of crab in batter, my dining companion had pulled duck empanada with plum chutney. Beautiful presentation, great colours, flavours, textures. Mains/large plates. I had scallops in cream sauce, my dining companion had calves liver, both seasoned and cooked to perfection. Desert was mango kulfi ice crean with rum soaked pineapple fritters. Yum. We will be back. Our dishes were off the specials board. The main menu had many other equally appealing dishes.

Buzzy, friendly atmosphere and thoughtfully put together food at our first visit to Street Urchin. We had a mix of seafood and meat dishes across the main menu and specials. The plates are well cooked and have a great combination of flavours, something that was true for all the dishes we tried as a party of four. Everyone loved their food and the service at this fantastic restaurant. Would visit again.

I was very excited to eat here, but found the food under seasoned and disappointing. The meat and fish were cooked nicely, but the presentation was messy and the flavours a-bit mismatched. We were misguided on the dish sizes, the large plates were huge and enough for 2 to share. As suggested we had ordered 2 smalls and 2 larges, which was very expensive. The wine list was also not great, considering the price of their dishes I would expect better quality wines to be on offer.

I chose this restaurant because of its reviews and I can easily see why it is rated so highly. The decor is lovely the staff were really friendly and the food was stunning. I would highly recommend it.

Didn't have a reservation but we got in just in time as people were turned away afterwards. Service was great, the staff were polite courteous and helpful. The food, what can I say, absolutely amazing, the flavours , the ingredients, out of this world, I've eaten in many fancy restaurants and they don't compare.

we arrived early, before opening. They were so accommodating. our food was soooooo tasty, packed with flavour. so many flavours i have never tried before. Stunning, definitely rivals, some of the best Michelin star restaurants.

My third visit. A lovely friendly welcome and wonderful food. My beef carpaccio was superb and the scallops were by far the best I've had. Altogether an excellent experience.

Return visit as it’s one of my favourite places in Manchester for English market food with a twist. Staff are all very friendly and food is always excellent. The pigeon starter was excellent. I have always been a fan of pigeon and small birds but often find it is dry, which it was not here. The lemon tart to finish was fantastic. Great portions for the price and a lovely wine list. Would highly recommend.
