Fish Hut in Manchester

You get what you pay for. I’ve had my fair share of fish and chips and I would list this at the bottom. It’s one of those fish and chips wherein you can really taste the oiliness of it and didn’t feel too well after eating it. Their chips were soggy and really nothing special.

Fish was cooked fresh, jumbo sausage is definitely jumbo. Chips were inedible. Don't know how long they'd been kept warm but had to throw away. Disappointing.

Good fish. Light Italian style batter, proper chips. There is a upstairs, which is comfortable, but not posh. The boss still plays football. A typical Italian central defender I suspect. Why eat anywhere else?

The sausage was amazing! But my chips let me down don’t know if it was late in the day paying over £5.00 for my meal I should have said not happy with chips . The service is fantastic very friendly and does say hello . 10/10 the shop is very clean spotless amazing takeaway next time I will try their pizza

Really nice fish and chips but the mushy peas were watery instead of creamy and thick like they should be. Staff were nice.

Had to give 1 star for food as never got to eat any on this visit. Absolutely disgraceful service catering to a bus load of Chinese students who were literally running a mock where there were tables. Was asked to come back so we did after an hour to be told they had closed the seating area off, to avoid anybody sitting there. After we had paid an extra £10 to park. Awful place and wouldn’t recommend to anybody. You need to learn about customer service as been coming to you every two weeks for years but will not now.

We have just had a yummy meal here at The Fish Hut. The fish was lovely and flaky and the chips nice and fluffy. Massive sausages which had to be cut in half to fit on the plate. The pizza was full of toppings and was also really good. Would highly recommend 😊

Paying £3 for chips but i get chips that should be dispose. Look at the picture. The chips taste as of yesterday’s food that they just warm up. Chips were burnt and really hard. Sorry, you should throw the chips instead selling to customer. I am paying . I was shocked because I take away and when I get home to see the chips looks like rubbish. I just throw off. Deserve 0 star.

I have been waiting for about 6 years to try this chippy as I heard good things about the fish and chips, been today 14/6/24 And omg I will not be recommending this place, very disappointed in what we were served 🤔 Fish and chips & Sausage and chips/ loads of bitty chips Not paid for scraps Was so hungry as well waiting all day for this

Despite prejudices, I must say that the fish was good and the breading was tasty.

Proper mushy peas and good portions

Came here for late lunch for the first time today. It didn't disappoint. I had fish and chips with gravy . So tasty! Service was really friendly and attentive especially Karolina. Will definitely return in the future.

Fantastic service and food! We came in a large group of over 20 and the staff catered for us brilliantly. Upstairs has lots of room for large groups.

Always a pleasure visiting the fish hut... customer service is great especially kastro and doni always have a giggle.

Amazing food. Like really good. Seating area is just a bench either side with some uncomfortable chairs. Go for the food, but take it out.

We visited at lunch time on a friday, there was no wait and we were served quickly. The prices are good for the city center and the food was nice, especially the curry sauce! Good chips but Unfortunately my scallop was uncooked in the center and nobody was a fan of the sausages. The fish looked very good!

Always used to get chips from here after a visit to MOSI when I was younger, the chip still taste as good as I remember

Very enjoyable time here with food that was perfect. Brought 4 friends of mine who have just emigrated from Hong Kong, and this was their first ever experience of fish and chips! They loved it. Very impressed and very helpful staff.

On the way back from Museum we popped in for fish and chips. Portion of chips was not to big. Guy behind the counter seemed didn't happy to see us as a costumers

Portion of chips and mushy peas. Chips are typical English ones. Flaccid, lava-hot, pale, and soft-cooked. Mushy peas hot and mushy.

A solid choice for fish and chips! The service was fast, and decent food quality. The portion sizes are good for the price. Worth a visit!

Great place for fish and chicken

Over priced rude service very rude. We decided to go in as we were cold and hungry never been in before until just over a week before xmas.

If we are having an afternoon in the hostelries of central Manchester, we will often start here to put a lining on the stomach, so to speak. Good service and nice fish and chips. As there are usually a few in the party the fish tend to be all cooked from scratch, so piping hot and everyone loves it. A couple of us ate there most recently and I think as only one of had fish, it came out of the ‘warming’ bit of the range and wasn’t quite as fresh or tasty as usual, hence the 4* on this occasion, but it’s been so consistently good over the years, we will definitely return again. Good value, too.

Desiderosi di provare il famoso Fish and Chips siamo rimasti delusi. Patatine fredde, oliose e poco saporite; il pesce niente di particolare e la pastella quasi fin troppo spessa e disgustosa. Il personale sembrava stanco e svogliato e il locale in sé non era pulito ed eta igienicamente sporco.

Good quality fish and chips, excellent price for what it offers. Decent choice of accompaniments, very friendly staff, really quick service and very nice sitting area for a chippy. We'll definitely visit again soon!

If you like fish and chips like I do and are in the city, take a look... you don't have to wait long and you can eat and the location is perfect, there are lots of good pubs nearby

Fish hut is an excellent chippy with a really nice seating area upstairs. Prices are very reasonable and I will 100% be returning when Im in Manchester next.

Friendly staff, great food, good prices...

This was convenient for the Manchester Pride parade so I tried it. The fish was pre-cooked and totally dried out despite the place being busy following a major event. It was so dry it was pretty well inedible and the batter was like plastic. The worst fish that I have had in decades. The chips were fairly good but no way made up for the truly awful fish. Threw a lot of it away.

Excellent Fish & Chip lunch. Perfect place to stop for a bit to eat in Dean's Gate. Very reasonable prices for Fish n' Chips in Manchester £8 for large portion eat in 🙌. The upstairs seating area is very nice.

Good chip shop with an upstairs dining room opposite the science museum. I had fish and chips which was very nice. Fish lovely and white,batter crispy but a little greasy. Chips good as well. Prices are very reasonable for Manchester

I went on a short getaway with my friend and we decided to try the fish hut on the first day and we returned everyday for the remaining time we were there we had about 4 trips there in total. The food was lovely And cheap the portions were massive definitely worth a visit

Always quality fish, at a good price for the centre of Manchester, I have been frequenting the Fish hut for over 10 years. Staff always friendly.

Everything is bland and dry. The fish is so dry, I can pull fibers out of it. It even sticks in my teeths. The batter is bland, and is hard like clay. Chips was deformed when it was served. That means it was pre fried then reheated. It tastes like soaky mush. The place is cozy and the view is nice however the food just disappoints.

I got a portion of chips in this place but sadly it wasn't crispy at all. It was barely fried. It felt more like boiled potatoes. I gave it two stars because it actually tastes alright

I visit a lot of chippies around the country and this was one the least appetising one i’ve been to in a while. I got just regular fish n chips with gravy. I could tell from the look of the chips they weren’t gonna be the best i’ve ever had and the first bite confirmed this. The chips were decent good enough to eat I didn’t leave them. The fish looked really nice until I started eating it I love a fish that just melts in your mouth but this was quite chewy and tough, the batter was very nice and was an upside to the whole meal. I think for £10 its a bit pricy for what you get quality wise. The staff seemed very friendly didn’t have much interaction with them. The atmosphere was nice and I think by the looks of it you could eat upstairs so I guess if you’ve been on your feet all day round town its not a terrible chippy to go too but its not making it to my top 10. Hope they improve the quality of the chips 🍟👍

I have to share this review about The Fish Hut which is near to Deans gate /Yclub .They serve the best , fresh and yummy fish n chips in Manchester. The staff is lovely and is accommodative even when you reach just before closing hours . Amazing place !

A small two story (+ the ground floor) food place with a reasonably good Fish and Chips. The portion was huge and although I am not a big fan of fish I found it well made. Required a bit of salt on my part though (the fries/chips as well). I had all three sauces with my F&C and all three were good. Probably the Gravy was the best. The owner/guy behind the counter was very friendly (he greated us warmly - we were from eastern Europe - just like him). If you are looking for a place to try F&C, I would recommend visiting The Fish Hut!

Very good value for money considering it is Manchester City centre. Upstairs cafe or just takeaway. Fish & chips, burgers and pizza. Staff really friendly and welcoming

Came at about 9:30 PM on a Friday. They served me fish and chips that were sitting in warming trays. The fish was dry (and hard) and the chips were cool and soggy.

Food quality has gone down hill since a few years ago. Chips was stale, did not taste fresh. Battered fish also not fresh, definitely frozen. The batter was better quality. Curry sauce was watery. Overall, everything was underwhelming and tasteless. For £8+ not worth the money

Not worth the visit if you go for a burger. Worse and more expensive than McD or similar. My burger was cold and the cheese didn't melt a bit. Peas were okay. The place was also quite dirty when we have been there even we were the only guests. Sevice was okay.

I had promising expectations, however was left very dissapointed by a fly cooked into the chip when I sat down to eat upstairs. I let management know - responding with a shrug and comment that they couldn't have prevented this in open air. Given I had paid for their food - I think an apology at the very least would be indicated. This poor service/response was dissapointing and therefore I wouldn't reccomend this place. Note - management, work on your people skills, you're losing business!

Brilliant chip shop been going in here for years, the staff are always very friendly and the food is always fresh. Always a good friendly welcoming from the staff and the food is always top quality. Has a Pizza oven at the back too for making fresh pizzas. Always great attention to ingredients,

Delicious fish & chips for a very affordable price

Totally charmless Eastern European males serving; however the food was surprisingly good and well priced. Would go again, but don't expect any sort of chat with the staff!

Cod was fairly decent, the scampi nuggets had no scampi in them and the chips were hard and inedible

We were early for our visit to MoSI so decided to grab some lunch. The food was lovely. Shop and dining area very clean. The only downside is the lack of disabled facilities with the dining area and toilet upstairs. However this is a Victorian building and would be impossible to put a lift in without breaching planning regulations. Definitely worth a visit!

A very tasty and flaky fish. Huge portion sizes and home made chips. The only minus is that the chips and fish was a little "mushy".

Service was quick and friendly, the chips and gravy were good. Curry is ok but it didn't really have flavour. batter is bad, very dry, hard and flavourless. Fish was fine but bland and ruined by the batter. Sausages are alright but again batter is very poor.

The Fish Hut ist in der Nähe des Technik Museums in Manchester und hat leckere fish & chips. Oben kann man gut sitzen. Der Laden sieht noch recht neu aus. Oder er wurde modernisiert. Der Fisch war lecker und knusprig, die Pommes eher matschig aber geschmacklich lecker. Mit dem milden Essig schmeckte es vollzüglich.

Stoppet innom for å prøve den klassiske fish & chips-retten til lunsj. Fisken var sprø og smakte godt, men chipsen var litt bløt, og det medfulgte ingen tilbehør i form av eddikdipp/-saus, coleslaw, grønnertestuing, eller lignende. Betjeningen virket brydd når vi kom, men var hyggelige når vi dro. Lokalet var ok, men ikke stort mer. Av å lese andre gjesters anmeldelser går jeg ut ifra at dette stedet er bra for engelske besøkende, men at de ikke liker turister.

Fish was overcooked - they need to be making fresh to order, otherwise the quality just plummets. Also, the fish had little taste to it. Chips were decent. I am really surprised with some of the 5 star reviews if this is what they serve, so maybe my poor experience was a one off but for what it cost I won’t be returning to give another chance.

Excellent fish and chips in Manchester city centre. Take out and also eat-in with seating upstairs - everywhere was clean and tidy. The food was very good. The chips were crisp and dry with a lovely thick piece of fish with a thin crisp batter. Traditional mushy peas made it complete. Recommended!

We came after a couple of drinks and it is so nice and really good value for money and portion size. The staff are great and the seating upstairs is so nice - defo will be back
