Nice place, attentive friendly service but felt it was too overpriced. Went with x3 friends. Lunch get together. We Had BLT in brioche bun ( no coleslaw/ salad/ trimmings given) , eggs royal , cheese toastie, side of chips, cokes, juices, tea and x1 scone etc Didn’t like the skinny skin on chips. So do see the menu before you visit. Would’ve preferred a lunch meal deal in a high street restaurant.

Nice friendly staff and very welcoming to our dog. We came for breakfast - it was fine but quite expensive. The going rate for a sausage bap in cafes nearby I would say range's from £5 to £6.50. Here it was £8 and quite small. Had to ask for ketchup which came in one of those awful tiny unenvironmentally-friendly sachets. Sausages were ok but brioche bun (who wants a brioche for breakfast?) was a bit burnt. A bit of a pity - looks like it has some nice things on the menu but rather pricey for the portion size and standard quality.

Not being local and looking for somewhere to break our journey I followed the good reviews to the StreetCafe. We parked in the multistorey and then walked to the cafe which was just on the corner of the junction. My husband had pulled pork burger and i had an omelette. All cooked well and very tasty. Coffee and tea were lovely. Rounded off meal with a slice of carrot cake. Very nice. No booking. We were there on a busy Sat afternoon and people were queueing but no one had to wait very long. Staff very efficient.

What a great place! Popped in here for brunch. Served immediately with a smile when we went in and seated on a lovely little table. I had an amazing hot chocolate and the hedonist breakfast. The breakfast was a wonderful mix of ingredients cooked to perfection. Friend had a huge pile of perfectly cooked bacon on a pile of pancakes with maple syrup all over them. For him, the little touch of hot milk to add to his coffee made a great brunch even better. The bill was very reasonable for the high quality and portion size. I highly recommend this cafe to anyone in the area. You won't get better.

Discovered this nice little place while strolling around St Albans post Xmas. Menu looked promising, so we ventured in. The staff were really helpful regarding my wife's food allergies and ensured that both she and I were able to enjoy a tasty, freshly prepared lunch. Street Cafe is a bustling but comfortable place to visit and the food was excellent, as was the friendly service. The prices are very reasonable and great value for the quality of the dishes prepared. We shall certainly be visiting again.

Oh. My. Word. Visited yesterday with family and had an amazing selection of properly home made cakes. Russian Honey Cake which I’d never before tasted but thought it’d be rude not to 😉. It was divine. Skilfully executed, rich honey flavour and, surprisingly not overly sweet; a scrummy Coffee and Walnut Cake, just like granny used to make and my daughter’s all time favourite, home-made Carrot Cake…what’s not to like. Complete with a really good (rich but not too bitter) double espresso macchiato made for a lovely treat. There was even that all important thick cookie milkshake for the pre teen. I know it’s renowned for its quality breakfasts and good food food but def a great spot for a sweet treat too. A lot to choose from and all delicious. I salute you Rita and team.

There are plenty of cafes to chose from in St. Albans. What there aren’t plenty of are ones that match the quality of food, comfort & service to be found at Street Cafe. Tastefully decorated and always warm & inviting, the staff go out of their way to give you exactly what you want with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. The menu is great with everything you’d expect to find on a good cafe breakfast and lunch menu plus lots more. The cooked breakfasts and Caesar salads are two of my favourites particularly well executed here. The kids love their pancakes & milkshakes and there is always a mouth-wateringly fab choice of unctuous home made cakes. The icing on the cake is that they also happen to serve the best espresso in town....perfect with a little pastry at their comfy window seats. What’s not to like?!

The staff know what we want even before we sit down and whilst very busy (as it’s popular) they are always attentive. We came back in September having not been since before lockdown and nothing had changed thankfully (except the Covid measures in place but we’re all used to that now). I think the Street Café could easily become our “go-to” coffee shop when in St Albans City center. During the recent “Eat Out to Help Out” campaign I enjoyed a lovely full English breakfast with coffee and fruit smoothie, whilst sat outside in the morning sunshine reading the morning newspaper – it could hardly have been nicer. The large smoothie was large and good. The sourdough toast was exceptional and so was the service. I have since re-visited for coffee and morning pasty and again this was very good, although the brownie my son had was a bit dry.

I do prefer the independents over the mass uninspired menus of the high st. chains, and this place did not disappoint. In search of a late lunch I found this cafe on a pleasant sunny corner, just off the main drag. Bright, airy and very relaxed with seating options of stools at counters along the floor to ceiling windows or cafe style with up-cycled sewing machine tables, I opted for the latter. From the specials board I ordered the spicy carrot soup for starters. Served piping hot in a generous sized bowl and complimented with 3 thin slices of sourdough, just enough to mop up the moreish remains. This was followed up with Spaghetti Bolognese served with heaps of grated parmesan. Mouthful after mouthful of well flavoured tender beef that would have only been complimented deliciously by a full bodied Chilean Merlot had I not been driving... A fully satisfying lunch for around 15 quid. Recommended!

We visited to have brunch for my son's 18th birthday, there were 5 of us plus a toddler in total and I called to try to book a table a few weeks prior (and specify we needed a highchair). The answerphone message said that the café was closed however when I checked opening hours online it should have been open. I left a message and my call was never returned. I subsequently emailed on two further occasions and was just about to book elsewhere when a lady called to confirm my booking. A few days later I received an email saying that they didn't take bookings. I emailed back and was told that I had a booking and it was a lack of communication on their part! All of our food was luke warm at best, the pancakes were heavy and stodgy. Some of our drinks failed to arrive and we had to remind the waitress. When the waitress came to clear our plates I told her I felt the food was well presented but almost cold, she made no apology or gave any explanation and continued to clear the table. I paid the bill and left, sadly I won't be returning, the menu and décor is good but who wants to eat cold food!

I last visited Street cafe in May 2018, I was not overly impressed then, and I left a review saying I was undecided.

It would appear that Street Café owners only like positive reviews as my original review on my breakfast has been removed. Would suggest addressing the points raised in my original review rather than trying to remove it. So lets try again ....the cappuccino was good but the breakfast was very over priced for what was presented on the plate. I had 2 poached eggs and a slice of toast which wasn't great for the price.. There are many other breakfast establishments in St Albans that provide better value for money, particularly if you are a family. I would not revisit based on my experience. Interested to hear a management response this time....

Charming little place with great food and friendly staff :) The interior has been decorated prettily, but not over the top! We found it easy to get a table early afternoon

Food is as good as it looks. Service is great & coffee is too. Now my local hang-out place. Definitely recommend their breakfasts & am addicted to their Caesar salad!

Went for lunch with a friend. What a delight to eat fresh tasty food, cooked to order, in an independent café. Service was friendly and helpful. Cheesecake was delicious!

Visited for the first time today and came away with note to self not to go there for breakfast again. A nice Cappuccino but then paid £6.95 for 2 poached eggs and a very small piece of toast....it looked quite comical to be honest and felt like asking the waiter "is that it?". Nice surroundings but my wife's breakfast of smashed Advocado at nearly £9 was just as uneventful. Really need to step up their game if they intend to retain custom as there are plenty of other establishments that are head and shoulders above them on the breakfast front. Just being honest, won't be going back.

Went here for a business meeting - chosen as another local establishment was a disaster the previous month...

We visited on a late Friday afternoon and were really pleased to find such helpful and accommodating staff as well as such enjoyable food. My partner is vegan and she was able to construct a delicious meal from the menu which the staff were only too happy to allow. Such a nice change from the attitudes of many other outlets. We liked the easygoing atmosphere and were impressed with the toilet facilities too. As we are not locals it may be some time before we return but we would thoroughly recommend this Café. Wish we could find somewhere like this everywhere !!

On a Friday and Saturday evening the excellent Street Café turns into a very good restaurant. We had some very nice food, finished off with excellent coffee and cheesecake. Will definitely return.

A lovely roast beef lunch with tasty veg, potatoes, cauliflower cheese and a Yorkshire Pudding. Lovely service from Sally and team. One of the best roast meals I have had. Would recommend the Swan. Was my birthday and they did make a bit of a fuss, which of course I loved. Thanks

Would give a 3.5 if I could, got upgraded to a 4 in the end by the kids. Good points - clean, kids liked the cookie dough desserts Bad points - constant stream of delivery drivers which makes the wait seem longer when you’re dining in. It took too long at night for just 2 desserts, but loads of delivery orders went out instead. Also, no kids portions. £8 for a cookie dough dessert means, for a family, you’ll just share what your kids have (as the portions are too big for them so they’ll be wasted), rather than them having a small portion and you choosing your own.

Food was great as always, the sharing platters were a great choice for us. Front of house very attentive and friendly. Made it a great experience and we all had good fun.

I see a huffy owner response to a previous review that mentions poor service/attitude but it’s a pretty accurate reflection on how this place operates. The service is abysmal with rude staff who treat paying customers like an inconvenience. Yes yes I’m sure it’s all very nice with your regulars, etc but really you ought to treat all of your customers well. Overall an average, miserable little cafe.
