Awful food. Upon enterting we had a gut feeling it was going to be bad, unfortunately we learnt the hard way. Possibly the worst roast we have ever eaten. I even said to my husband that hospital and plane food is better. No flavour, very dry, cold. The restaurant is cold. Service is mediocre. We had roasts both very dry, onion rings were like burnt crisps, food had no flavour except for a lot of salt (and we like salt). Would not recommend. Avoid.

We went at the weekend & had a family meal to celebrate a birthday , food was fast & great quality, service was 5 star & the staff were excellent . They even allow dogs in & had a dog meal menu! this is not my local I had travelled here to meet up with my family for a meal, would highly recommend 5 stars ✨ Jim D. 👍

Jess and Andrea were Great, they- create a welcoming place with their lovely and friendly service. Have been going to this pub for the past few years, especially for their delicious food, summer BBQs and football screenings. The place is good for just a drink catching up with friends, or a family dinner, good for anything, and a definite go to. Would greatly recommend, this is a nice pub with nice staff.

This is a great place to relax and enjoy good food. The staff are efficient, friendly and very attentive. Jessica and all the girls go the extra mile always to ensure you enjoy your visit.

This pub was perfect for a night well spent in harpenden, so close to the town centre and a lovely atmosphere made my experience an extremely positive one. The manager Jess was extremely helpful and very kind during my visit and made me and my family feel at home. The other staff were brilliant too, Andrea was super helpful and made sure all drinks and dishes were perfect before being sent to my table. Would definitely recommend!

I have been visiting the pub since March 2024, when they have been under new management and never had an issue. Food is always lovely, staff are friendly and they have multiple events on such as wine tastings and Jazz nights (which I have yet to explore). I know from personal experience the new owners are very much experienced in the industry and have put their stamp on the pub.

We use to enjoy popping in for a bite to eat or just a drink but unfortunately the pub standards went downhill end of 2023 to beginning 2024. We last visited the pub in February 2024 at 8pm only to be rudely told by the assistant manager Jess that she was closing early we could have 1 drink but no food. To add insult to the rude greeting Jess was overheard on the phone confirming her evening plans whilst sat doing her makeup. We took our drinks outside because the we had our dog with us but unfortunately we short time afterwards we had to leave because a group of teens seen talking with the assistant manager came outside and made there way to the back garden gates. It was clear they were smoking cannabis the smell was so overpowering and the group became louder and louder and her language was appalling. My partner emailed the pub after our visit but we were totally ignored. I have never been one to leave negative reviews and believe and in second chances. After another spontaneous visit we could see little had changed. The only positive change is the pub was open and Jess was properly dressed and they did offer food. There was also no smell of cannabis but Jess was clearly not in charge. If you like smoking pot and are clearly not bothered by your surroundings or being told you can have one drink this is the pub to go to. If you want a relaxing pint and great atmosphere with decent service I recommend you visit any of the other pubs in Harpenden. Never coming to place unless we hear a change in certain staff members has happened. Harpenden is not Amsterdam I strongly advise families with children to avoid

First off I called to book a table , we had a table booked somewhere else which I cancelled because Andrea was so lovely on the phone, Jesse and Andrea served our table and made us feel so welcome, great fun , great personalities, food was really good, very reasonable priced , nice fish and chips and steak pie, proper pub food, had a nice relaxing lunch , thankyou .

I just ordered a barbecue chicken burger the price was very reasonable and the burger was absolutely delicious 😋 I highly recommend this food outlet 👍👍 thank you ☺️

Great place to head for an evening meal and drink. Really like the covered outdoor area next to the common. Food is good, staff are very welcoming and great to chat to. Definitely will be coming back to try the new menu. Highly recommend!

Just got back from having lunch at Queens Head with my friend . Couldn’t recommend enough staff were very friendly & helpful the food was superb, the pub was lovely inside very homely

May 24. Under new management, but very much unchanged. Nov 23. Not such a range of craft beers now, but still a good choice of beers. Good lunchtime food. Large pub. Reasonable range of beers and wine. September 2022. Lots of craft beers. Good place to take children for a meal. Access to the common. £££££ Feb 23. New management, fewer craft beers. Still pleasant atmosphere.

Excellent pub, a real gem located next to Harpenden common. Staff are incredible, attentive and always make you feel welcome. Lovely beer garden with a cosy covered area and ping pong table. Dog friendly, family friendly and has sports on TV. Wide variety of food on the menu and all dishes I’ve tried are delicious. One of my favourite pubs in Harpenden, clean, great choice of drinks and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I came here this morning for work... Jessica looked after me during my visit This pub has a beautiful wrap around outside seating area and is situated right next to the parkland so children could play happily under the watchful eyes of parents... Covered smoking areas and comfy seats An all round nice place to spend a few hours.

Lovely fresh food, very friendly staff and dog friendly too. We look forward to returning and trying the Sunday roasts available!

Visited for a drink on Christmas Day, arrived early , unfriendly welcome on such a special day and told we couldn’t stand in the bar area despite ample room and that we also could not stand in the restaurant area. We were only staying for a quick drink so we ended up sitting in the cold outside with my 82 yr old mother. Should have left at this point as the smell of raw sewage out there was disgusting , it was pouring with the toilet paper from the toilets into the car park. This restaurant should be condemned, obviously will not return.

Second visit to the pub after changing hands. Main course took 45 minutes to arrive and when we tried to order desert from the "Specials" board we were told they were not available as the menu had just changed (Then why not clear the board)? - the desert took another 30 minutes to arrive! - When I complained to the young lady behind the bar about the slow service she said "There are only two of us on duty - we keep telling the management but they do nothing about it"! The girls on duty were trying their best - they need more staff........... This was very similar to my first experience at the pub - so I will not be going back!!!!

Came here for my Dad's 60th on a Sunday lunchtime. As it was a December birthday, we were able to order from the festive menu. Everything leading up to the day was very smooth from paying the deposit to arranging the pre-order of food. I asked for a couple of things to be arranged for my Dad's birthday which all went really well. We had some news that some guests had a problem with their car and would be delayed. Jessi said she could give us our starters and hold off starting the mains until we were ready. It worked out perfectly. The food was so lovely and everything flowed fantastically. We had one issue with one of the meals but that was quickly rectified without issue. Staff were lovely and very attentive despite it being a busy lunchtime in December. We ended up spending 4 hours in total here, down to the fact that some of our guests were delayed, and we chose to have our lunch leisurely. We didn't feel rushed at all and made to feel very comfortable. We will 100% return for another birthday celebration. Thank you so much for making my Dad's celebrations so special!

Sunday roast was awful. Did get refund though

Smell of sewage upon entering and the pub is too cold to be comfortable without your coat on. We ordered from the lunch menu (which is priced at £7 on the website, but £8+ in reality) but upon paying 2 of our party of 3 were told their food was from the full menu at £12+. The portions were way too small for the full menu item and nowhere near good value. My BLT was good, but a little salty. Chips were cold. Won't be back.

This place used to be better. We went there for lunch during the week. First, I checked the website and it says £7 lunch menu. When we got there and it was more than that. We decided to order anyway - I asked for the fish&chips that in the lunch menu was ~£9.50. When I go to pay they charge me £14.50 saying it was a normal portion, but that was the tiniest fish portion I’ve had in the UK. Not going back there

I've been here a few times now but had never had anything to eat. It was always brilliant for drinks but I have to say the food surprised me, which it shouldn't have done thinking about it. I treated my folks to a BLT and a few coffees and the it was really tasty. I helps also that all sauces were actually served in proper bottles rather than sachets. Everything was hot and the service was second-to-none. My only issue was I never actually asked who our host his name. Shame, as he deserves a lot of credit. Well done guys and will be back.

Lovely venue on a summers day to sit out in the garden. Food lovely decor lovely & staff very accommodating. Will be back again.

Kate & Andrea made our family night out at The Queens Head really enjoyable. The service was great and friendly and proper pub food where you get a good version of what you order with a healthy range of options cooked and presented well by Lud the chef. Thanks for a great night, topped off by the live music, we will be back again!

Booked a table online only to walk into an empty pub and told that the chef had gone home and our booking was not on the system even after getting a confirmation email. Website needs to be updated or made to inform you if the chef has decided to go home.

Shared a rump steak sandwich and BLT both with chips and it was 10/10. Cold and fizzy beer. The staff are wonderful. Perfect lunch.

Had an amazing roast dinner, for a good price and great choices of drinks with very good service. The roast beef was amazing I recommend.

Having booked a table for diner via Open Table we arrived at 9pm to find the whole pub empty and the manager sitting on a stool shovelling food down throat. Our table reservation for 9pm was not registered with the pub and her offer to cook something up for us was not something we were interested in after all who would want wait for food to be served up in a totally empty pub with no atmosphere. This was our second visit to the Queens Head since it reopened under new management, our first visit resulted in vowing never to go back after terrible service and really bad food however we felt that we should give it another try since we would hate to see another pub close down in Harpenden, what a mistake this turned out to be. This pub really does not deserve to stay open.

Despite confirming that we would be there the manageress said there was no booking. She was very rude. ‘Shovelling’ food into her mouth and made no eye contact. Said she could reopen the kitchen. However, who wants to sit in an empty pub with no atmosphere. This is the second and last time since reopening that we will go there. We wanted to support a local business but it deserves to be closed.

Had a delicious Sunday roast here with great service from Lauren and Kate who were very friendly and helpful. Had a Lotus Biscoff desert too which was tasty. Parking was easy. Good Wi-Fi. Garden is really nice and cozy with good seating and even an area properly under cover which is cool, plus the garden leads directly onto a beautiful field which you can walk around! Although I don't have dogs, this place is dog friendly and even more so with the field. Would definitely recommend!

Went for a Sunday lunch felt so comfortable & at ease. The waitress Jess was so lovely, didn’t pressure us to order & made our cocktails look beautiful! Even though one drink was just a soda, it came in a beautiful glass with a garnish! The chef made us cauliflower cheese on the house as a side for our dinner! Definitely will go again!

We had Sunday lunch here which was great. Loved the prawn cocktail! We sat outside in the garden in the back which was a delightful sunny spot u til it suddenly rained. It’s summer after all! The staff were super friendly and attentive and I highly recommend. We shall be going back again for sure - probably on a quiz night.

Food was great though the Korean chicken burger didn't really live up to being Korean it was still moist and tasty. Chicken schnitzel was superb, while side salads and chips were also very good. I don't know if the pub has recently upped it's game or if some other reviewers are mistaken about where they ate. The portions were more than adequate, and we are not small people. Great range of drinks, we ended up staying over three hours chatting with the staff. The pub seems quiet on a weekday evening, but has live music some weekends to liven things up. Definitely recommend.

Visited for lunch recently, good menu to choose from. Gluten free options available which is always good. We were impressed with the lighter burger option, with a sale instead of bun. Good sized patio for this warmer weather

Very nice spacious, comfortable pub/restaurant. Lunch was quiet but service good and food to a very high standard. Tables well spaced inside and lots of comfortable outdoor tables and seating. Will go again when back in Harpenden.

Terrible tiny portions. They chicken in the burger was tiny (half a portion). with a single thin slice of tomato and no sauce. Surely the worst burger I’ve had in years I told the waitress and she apologised but charged me in full. My wife ordered the sausages and again it seemed no more than a kids’ portion, and didn’t come with the Yorkshire pudding as stated in the menu. We used to be regulars but not anymore. This has been our last time.

Jessie was a brilliant host attentive to all our needs . There was 5 of us plus a newborn for lunch yesterday and she ensured that we were served outside in a very prompt and efficient manner . It was my birthday and she provided me with a birthday drink which was really kind of her . She is an excellent part of your team . We came in here Tuesday 4th July for a few birthday drinks after a meal down the road, it's a very nice looking pub -nice beer garden with good beer options, however 9.50pm we were told they were taking last orders - 10.20pm we said "ah we will get one more" but the till was already closed - Shame when it's normally 11pm - us and 2 more tables were pretty much ushered out the door. 3rd time we have popped in, past 2 with having had food (which is okay) This pub could be so much more.

Best staff, nice interior and garden, such a warming and welcome approach to me and my son from Kate and jess. I would highly recommend a visit to this pub.
