Great atmosphere, the staff all made me very welcome and nothing was to much trouble for them. there was a good, varied menu, but on this occasion I only had the soup, and what a wonderful bowl of soup it was, certainly homemade, full of character. My Husband and I visited this gorgeous little cafe last week, after being recommend by my little sister. When we arrived after finally getting parked due to a busy Saturday. We we greeted by a very friendly chap and he took us to a table for two. He told us all the specials on the menu and told us he had a selection of cakes at the counter too. Sadly we had both had breakfast so didn't want too much to eat so we just went for a cake and a drink. My husband had a latte and a pear and ginger cake which was a very good size slice and tasted gorgeous. I had a hot chocolate and a chocolate brownie, which again was good size and very tasty! The cafe was full and there was often people popping in and out getting take out drinks. The owners seemed very friendly and it was apparent people enjoyed coming to get their drinks and having a chat. We will be back to this cafe and we both would love to try their food too. Owners should be proud of what they have achieved. I will be recommending this place to many.

We popped in here for a coffee on arriving in Wells and ended up staying for lunch. Ivan and Susan have created a lovely haven of home cooked food and delicious coffee off the beaten track here in this small city. Ivan is a welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble. We had a nice glass of house white wine while Susan rustled up our lunches. I had a great chicken liver pate with lots of toast and a very sticky onion jam. Really good flavours. My boyfriend has the poached egg on chorizo - also very tasty. He almost licked the plate clean. Good value for money and what was really impressive was Ivan's hosting skills, he chatted to everyone, remembered everyone's names and even congratulated one regular on his A Level results. His warmth makes the atmosphere here even more special. We left with a takeaway coffee which was also excellent. Thoroughly recommended.

It's great to have someone who has real coffee knowledge instead of just being able to work the machine! The title says it all- at least the best we've had in our month travelling from Cornwall to Scotland, at 3 coffees a day in over 100 different cafes. First was the latte, creamy and smooth with that real coffee kick that is so hard to find without being bitter. On returning after a sightseeing day around Wells, I had a flat white, and blow me down if it wasn't even better! Smooth with a hint of caramelised vanilla and again that sweet coffee bite. Good choice of snacks and very friendly staff- I think the owner is also the barista. His waitress (I think his wife) even turns the cup handle around to suit the handedness of the customer. Just a little thing, but it's attention to detail like this that makes great coffee. It's a few minutes walk from the town centre (opposite St Cuthbert's Church) and well worth the effort. In fact, if Wells was not a wonderful city to visit, this cafe on its own would justify a trip.

This review is probably 16 months too late but I can assure you that I have visited here on numerous occasions and can state that the service, quality and overall experience you will receive here will be nothing short of exemplary. The coffee is one of the many factors that sets this wonderful gem of a place ahead of the multi national coffee chain shops in the city - the flat white is a MUST!! Ivan delivers the best flat white in Somerset - don't just take my word for it go in and try it. In the kitchen is Susan is producing exquisitely tasty dishes and mouth watering cakes - if you don't have a slice of the gluten free Spanish Almond cake then you are missing out on a slice of baking heaven. Aside from the delicious cakes that Mary Berry would be wanting to try Susan also creates the meals served there which are produced using locally sourced ingredient renowned for taste.Did you ever watch 'Cheers' the bar where everybody knows your name? Well walking into Strangers with Coffee is just like that - you will receive a warm welcome be it your first or fiftieth visit. On my first return visit I was stunned when Ivan greeted me using my name - you won't get that at your Starbucks or Cafe Nero.To anyone wishing to visit then please note that you will need cash as there are no card machines which is refreshing in this day. The coffee and food are all very reasonably priced. You may only go in for coffee but you will find it almost impossible to resist trying a cake, sandwich or more so pop some cash in your pocket. If you want to have one of the most welcoming and delicious of visits to Wells then simply walk along the street by the stunning St.Cuthbert's church and you will find 'Strangers' - it is only minutes from the main street. I love coffee and coffee shops. This cafe - it has had several owners over the past few years - has all the right signs and the owner makes all the right noises. I have visited 5 times. The place is rather crowded and condensation is an issue but it is OK with a small outside area (smokers sadly use it) and comfy seats. What is not OK is when ordering a coffee to have chocolate plonked in it. To be told when asking that 99.9 per cent of people like chocolate on their coffee - and that all cappuccinos have chocolate in the mix - is not what I wanted to hear. It was good coffee but was made bitter by the chocolate - in my opinion. I do not want to be given a lecture and made to feel as if I am somehow in the very small 0.1 per cent that don't like chocolate on or in their coffee. My son tasted it and said that it was sickly coffee - he had a hot chocolate that was good he said. The owner said that their cafe was in the top 5 and was asking customers to vote for it in an award - giving out cards to go online. In my experience a really good cafe speaks for itself - or at least the coffee does - over inflated opinions by the owner or staff are not necessary. Perhaps stick to the hot chocolate or have tea....

We were not disappointed at all - a warm welcome, a cosy environment and a perfectly suited menu, with a variety of cakes, sandwiches and light lunch dishes. I have only ever visited Strangers a couple of times although I live in Wells, however I can say with pride that having tasted numerous coffees from around the country in speciality local coffee shops, this one in Wells is simply the best! The atmosphere is also amazing with lots of coffee related decor and different options of beans and how you would like your coffee made (coldpress, filter, aeropress and of course espresso!). Having lived in Melbourne Australia for 10 years I was spoilt with high quality coffee roasting cafes. Unfortunately the UK market has been swamped with Starbucks, Nero and Costa coffee shops who don't have a clue what coffee is. By sheer chance we parked in the street nearly opposite this small coffee shop at lunchtime on our visit to Wells. What a find ! We are from Melbourne Australia & miss our coffee when we travel to UK but Ivan brewed up 2 double espresso's to equal the best. We chose a sandwich & chicken wrap for lunch which was home-made & tasty. Ivan & his wife have created a great atmosphere, friendly & cosy - if you are in Wells, its definitely worth visiting.

My wife and I thought we'd try this place for lunch as it was rated number one on trip advisor. And now we know why!Great friendly service and food full of flavour, worth every penny. We will be going back to sample more of the menu too.

The best coffee in the area is found I this cosy family run restaurant. Service is excellent and the home cooked food is amazing. Try the Haloumi and Houmous burger with fruity chutney. Yum! The cakes are really good, so waist lines are at risk! It's so nice to be served with care and consideration by people who really know their stuff and to find a quiet corner of this lovely city to relax and enjoy some delicious coffee.

Very well made coffee from AllPress, Clifton and guest roasters. The best cold brew I've tasted anywhere. Great food too. Well worth seeking out, as it's slightly off the beaten track in Wells, although only a few hundred yards from the main street.

We went there because it was close to the church and looked cute from the outside. They were very friendly and the coffee was great.

We sought out this little unprepossessing coffee house after reading trip advisor reviews and were really pleased we did: the coffees were excellent in quality and served by the owner who clearly knows and loves his coffees. The chocolate brownie also went down well....in fact all the food looked home made and high quality. If you really know your coffee then this is the place for you....well worth the stroll to find it and a world away from the coffee chain cafes

A little bit off the beaten track but worth looking for. The coffee is just as good as the other reviews say and the staff couldn't be more welcoming. We will definitely return - and have cake next time

I love everything about this place :) it is my favourite spot and I can not put in to words just how lovely Ivan and Susan are. Everything in Strangers is of excellent quality. Their homemade cakes are so mouth watering that even if I go in there just for coffee...there is a 100% chance I will cave in to temptation! My favourites are the chocolatey brownies and the chocolate and orange sponge - YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!The coffee is the best in Wells, made to perfection - Ivan is the best coffee barista around!I have introduced many people to this place and none have been disappointed. If you do go to Wells you must find this hot spot of temptation!oh and i forgot to mention their menu is very tasty - especially the scrambled egg and chorizo wrap and their hearty sanies!

At last - found a coffee shop worthy of the name in lovely Wells. A little off the beaten track, but only a short walk from the "city" centre - yes, Wells is a city, albeit the smallest in England! Enjoyed a great flat white, prepared with care and skill by the lovely owners. Will be a regular stop when we visit I'm sure.

Stopped in Wells to see friends who have become locals here since moving from Melbourne. Ivan makes the best coffee we have found outside of Melbourne while travelling. Not only were we treated Ivan's great coffee but also sampled some of Susan's delicious cake. Great coffee, food and service. Thanks for the treat on a Sunday afternoon.

We found Strangers with Coffee by chance on the way to Glastonbury. We stopped for a late lunch and it was very tasty. Ivan was very friendly + explained the menu to us. Service was quick + Susan's food was tasty. The black coffee over ice was a great pick me up. The cafe has interesting postcards/fliers + coffee sacks + knick knacks but isn't too cluttered. We popped in for coffee + cake the next morning + Ivan remembered us asking us about our trip to neighbouring Glastonbury. The lime + coconut cake was fresh out of the oven :o) It's not the cheapest place in the world but for fresh, tasty coffee + food it is worth it + better value than the big chains who won't take the time to get to know or remember their customers.

Stopped here while it was raining and sat down to have a coffee. The owner and his wife were so friendly and helpful. They gave us lots of tips on where to go, both in Wells and London(our next stop). Coffee was some of the best we've had in the UK. Also had a lovely homemade hummingbird cake, delicious! Definitely stop here and have a chat with the owners, they are really great!

Came across this place by accident as we were looking for somewhere to escape the rain and get a bite to eat. The owners were so welcoming, the choice of food was excellent with a varied range of wraps etc and despite the place being small we never felt rushed or hemmed in. After speaking to the owner we found that the café was dog friendly with a covered rear raised decked courtyard and that we were welcome to bring our dog at anytime. We took them up on their offer a few days later and returned with dog in tow for coffee and cake. The rear courtyard was cosy and secluded and Rupert (the dog) was delighted to be presented with his own fresh water bowl and dog biscuits. I can not recommend this place enough - my only complaint that it is in Wells and we live in the West Midlands - we need them to relocate!

My family and I popped in this morning and it was already getting busy. There was a welcoming atmosphere and we were greeted as soon as we entered. Inside is small, but beautifully decorated and there is also an outside seating area. The best part was the coffee. We all had different drinks, which we all presented beautifully. I can also highly recommend the homemade cakes, which were amazing! This is definitely the best coffee shop in Wells.

Small but varied choice of food run side saddle with the classic basics of a very good coffee house. If your a costa fan who likes the bitter tasting coffee then you may find their coffee blend a little too mellow, but for me and my wife the coffee flavour was smooth and very paleatable. The food was presented well and all home baked including the tacos themselves. The owners are pleasent and attentive.Overall an excellent little coffee house that servers good cooked food

We love Turkish food and visiting Turkey. This was our last night in Halifax and we enjoyed it very much. Good food and wine. Service was excellent. I hope Halifax enjoys this lovely Turkish restaurant as much as we did.

Staff were lovely the food was delicious. Taste and quality of the food was amazing. There was 8 of us and we ordered the queen's feast for 8 people. Again no issues all very happy with the food it. Only slight critique was more bread needed. We were given so many lovely dips and there just wasn't enough bread to dip ratio. Definitely be back to try some of the other dishes! Thank you for a delicious lunch and another great thing is the restaurant is dog friendly!

In a town of excellent, varied restaurants this may be the best. Cheery staff. Marvellous food with a Middle Eastern twist. Perhaps the best "full works breakfast' that I have ever had. A pleasant atmosphere, and come the warmer weather, a nice garden. Watch out for the unusual Wednesday/Thursday closure days

My group booked a table at this apparently excellent local restaurant, I received a call 2 hours before our sitting informing me that my group could only be sat outside due to having a dog despite it being winter and having booked a table at this "dog friendly" restaurant months and months ago. Absolutely appalling behaviour, avoid, avoid, avoid.
