Pros: The lady behind the bar was lovely... Cons : Only available draft ale was Jail Ale. I think they had at least 3 other hand pumps not being used. No word of a lie, my Jail Ale smelt like cheese which is a first for me. That really tangy supermarket stuff. I'm assuming the lines weren't cleaned properly. The taste wasn't much better and I couldn't finish it.

Horrible place. Sat quietly at the bar, had my back to everyone & while my partner was taking to someone these awful girls (one of which was bar staff) set on me saying im taking videos of them, telling me to show them my phone etc, i was infact sending my daughter a text message, which has nothing to do with them, facing away from everything! Went to the Stoke village fun day, went into the Stoke in to buy a drink, never again shall I make that mistake! It too 17 minutes to get served, waiting at the counter, but it seems they like to serve their regulars before anyone else, a regular walked in and they went straight to then(numerous of times) i ordered 2 cokes, they was filling the glasses up and half way through they ran out (one of the bar staff got someone to run across the road to the co-op to buy some bottles to then continue to fill the glass up with Coke Zero!) while sitting outside I then witnessed them buying some strongbow darkfruits from the shop! Not only all this, there was a 14/15 year old behind the bar serving alcohol!!!

I had a mate visiting from Aus and I really didn't want to cook a Sunday roast on a hot August day but she was gagging for Yorkshires so we trotted across the road to the Stoke Inn. Yorkshires with any roasted meat and excellent Guiness - can't say fairer than that! Both mate and I loved the food and I have been back since. The ambience is lovely and friendly and the beer and cider festivals are brilliantly run. There is a large garden and a room for hire for parties outside the main pub. Went here for the bank holiday live band. We went on the Sunday evening a good view people there and the weather good for sitting outside, the bands were good and there was a bbq place set up, although I was a little shocked at the hygiene standards of the person working behind it, so didn't purchase anything to eat, as she touched raw meat with bread rolls, not good practice. The log burner got lit but it then became too smokey where we were sitting so had to move. It was a good evening though and a good selection of real ales and ciders and donations to St Luke's hospice

The Stoke Inn is by far the best pub in the land, its got a great City Pub feel, everyone who enters are treated like the family, food and drink prices are very reasonable, in fact the food not only tastes great but is prepared fresh on the spot, so you might have a little time to wait for your grub, but its so much better this way, I mean 20 mins for burger and chips is fine, at least it gives you time to speak with other pub goer's, if ths pub gets busy the simple thing to do is to heads to the far end of the pub where the sofa's are, sit back and relax!. The pub also has a pool table with plenty of room, FREE WiFi, darts boards and a whole host of characters who run this pub, Steve has done so much for the community here in Stoke Village and is a real; credit to the community, Im so glad he is the landlord, we wouldn't want anyone else!. \Don't forget the massive beer garden, childrens play area and function room. - Pic on the front page by me - TamarPhotography.

Go to this pub more frequently than we ever used to do as they have special events and the food is lovely. We went for Sunday lunch which isn't something we do very often. They do 4 roast lunches for £20 which I think is an excellent deal. I couldn't persuade any of my party to have the roast lunch, so I was the only one having it. It was delicious, I choose the lamb and couldn't believe how much meat I had, it was lovely and very tasty, others had the fish and chips and my son had the sharing platter for two, for himself, which he said was very tasty. Having recently moved fairly near to this pub I thought I'd see if it could be my new local. I'd read good things and had high hopes.Unfortunately it was not up to the high praise I'd recently heard. The bar was busy, but lacking bar staff - between 5 and 10 minutes passed before anyone appeared - and the initial impression was of a tired, seen better days bar. When I finally acquired a pint ( the barmaid was friendly enough, but seemed unconcerned about leaving the bat unattended for such a long time) I went out to the garden to enjoy the sun.I have to say, this garden bears little resemblance to the one in the pictures. This appears to be fairly large and well tended. In reality it is fairly small and shabby, The tables are warped and very weathered and many of the tables look very uncomfortable. The general impression is shabby and a little grubby.I realise many people seem to like this pub, but it is not for me and I will not be returning, I feel the images and website lead one to expect a much better environment than is actually delivered.

Just had my daughter's 13th birthday 'do' at the Stoke function room - which turned out to be a perfect venue. Not only did the food provided go down well, Steve's genius in investing in an earphone jack connected to the function room speakers, in conjunction with the Stoke's free wifi meant that they could use their electronic devices (which no teenager is without) to choose and play their favourite music. The function room includes a patio area, and when it got dark, twinkling fairy lights throughout. The girls had a marvellous time, I could keep an eye on them without cramping their style, and unlike many function rooms, there was no need to pass through the bar to reach the loos. I would heartily recommend the venue, and would urge anyone with a similar celebration to arrange to take a trip to the Stoke, have a meal, enjoy the garden, and check out the function room. Thank you, Steve and staff for making it a very special occasion.

Came here some time ago and thought it was all a bit ordinary, maybe overselling itself, but came back at lunchtime a week ago and felt very differently. It is friendly, welcoming, the effort to sustain well kept beers and to offer a carefully constructed rather better than average pub menu were both evident and proven by our very acceptable and hearty, not too boozy lunch. As someone who doesn't live in or walking distance of Stoke Village, parking is a pain, but if I am hereabouts again I will not hesitate to come back to this pub. Perhaps someone should consider adding a listing in with the other pub in the Tripadvisor 'nightlife' section of Things to Do. I'd be I treated to find out whether it's a bit of fun evenings.

This place is amazing!! cheap friendly family orientated business. Reasonably priced drinks excellent food :) brilliant service. All bar staff are kind and freindly top banter or serious chats this is the place to be for all ages. Excellent venue for parties since the new year I have attended several parties ranging from 18-80+ birthday parties to christening after parties and wakes. This place really does do it all!!

It was difficult to contact them as the phone numbers which they'd tried to get changed were all wrong, The actual number is 01752 515749.It was a great place for family and friends (all 10 of us including a vegetarian) to enjoy. The food was great and cooked from fresh ingredients with service you'd expect when your paying good money eating out. The prices are reasonable with a good menu to choose from. Well recommended and going back tonight for their Valentine menu which I expect to be equally as enjoyable.

The young girls that work be hide the bar are so nice to talk to they make you feel so welcome. The new owners have changed the menu so its pub grub not restaurant food which is so much better, quicker and great value. The two brothers that are running it now make the stoke inn a place to come and enjoy a drink or two.Oh and they now have a pool table after 15 years of waiting for one

it's less than a week, since new people have taken over the establishment, and already things are starting looking great, for a start its by far the most cleanest ive ever seen the place or for that matter any public house in Devon/Cornwall. The selection of drinks is great as is the new menu, proper food at great prices, I have so far already this week (twice) have had Chilli, Chips and Garlic Bread, all this for under a fiver, and its really good quality too. If you're visiting Plymouth and want some good home cooked food also taking into note the free car parking available around the corner, then look no further than the Stoke Inn, Plymouth. The staff are really nice and friendly, which makes the experience even more welcoming. I have good feelings again about the place, and really look forward to visiting.. - Actually is that the time, no guess to where im going....

I'm living in the Stoke area of Plymouth, myself and my family are extremely satisfied with the Stoke Inn, first class ales, superb home cooked food with excellent quality to match, the staff are all friendly, the drinks are of excellent value, as is the food too, ignore any review that has given the premises a bad review, if you want quality at an affordable price, look no further than this Public house, the couple running the premises are a lovely husband and wife team and are personally more like good friends than just landlord/land lady. Im sure they will do well when they sadly leave the area this year and move onto new premises in Polperro, myself and family are more than happy to travel the extra few miles, - truly wonderful. Thank-you :)

Sit right next to the sea to dream & relax, & enjoy excellent coffee, cakes & absolutely delicious bacon baps. The family team who run this are always super friendly & welcoming. We can't stay away.

I love pasties, I also love friary mill pasties. I’m a regular here and can not fault any of the staff, their customer service is always polite cheerful and overall just good. The only issue is there has been multiple times where I’ve purchased a pasty took a bite into it and there’s been nothing but a huge chunk of steak inside, I’m not talking about a little chunk I’m talking about the whole inside of the pasty is just one big ball of steak. I find it happens the most with the cocktail pasties. Not a fault of the staff but just some feedback!

Cracking fish and chips. Always freshly cooked, always great quality and always piping hot. The portions are huge too. Can’t ask for more from a takeaway.

Best fry up I've ever eaten. The bacon and sausages absolutely perfect. To whomever work's in that kitchen hat's off to you and thank you.
