What a great place to visit. We arrived at one o'clock with no reservation and were seated straight away . Great staff , and fantastic choice of drinks and food. Food arrived quickly and was delicious we chose a huge sharing platter and unfortunately had to leave some because we were full . Highly recommended.

Went here before the Royal Albert Hall Place was clean and welcoming Staff very attentive and friendly Menu was good selection and waiter offered to recommend dishes Food came out piping hot which is unusual for most restaurants and was delicious and so obviously freshly cooked not microwaved Glad we had a dessert too really good We had a table for two next to the tree Only thing I would say is I would not have liked to share a bench table too impersonal but that’s my preference

A pre event lunch before going to the Royal Albert hall. Atmosphere was good with the bench style seats and chunky furniture. Expected a little bit of the cheesy Bavarian music but there was a chilled electro vibe which worked well. Menu not massive and consisted of Bavarian favourites but with a modern twist. Plenty sausage and Schnitzel and warm kartoffelsalat. The tastes and smells did transport me back to my teenage years living in Germany as a British military kid. The beer selection was good and typically Bavarian. I didn't on this occasion go for a large Stein as would have probably needed a nap at the concert but did sample a Weissbier and will be back for a stein or two with friends next time. Prices were typically London I would say but not overly priced. There is a service charge included but the staff were attentive and available through out our visit. Hopefully if busier of an evening the staff ratio warrants a service charge and they do still give good service. A great lunch nice flavours great food and relaxed atmosphere thank you !

Disastrous restaurant!!! Hard to review food that doesn't exist so I gave it one star. Ordered food and no updates 60 minutes later. Just left. Multiple other tables did the same. Shambles for a restaurant supposedly serving the pre-Proms crowd. I will never return.

As a middle aged, pescatarian Londoner with a German mum I had always wanted to visit this place close to the Polish restaurant which I have been to a few times. They are similarly priced and a friend owed me a meal so I chose Stein's as part of a day out with him to Donatello at the V&A. He knew the restaurant already and liked it. We two (both retired) arrived at about 1.10 on a Thursday to this modern, smart, bright and wood panelled room. We took a table at the far right hand wall and the friendly Eastern European waitress offered us the menu. We ordered a German beer each. As a pescatarian I was not really keen on the trout on offer as that can be found anywhere. I am more a flexitarian when it comes to special restaurants offering different cuisine and I know how much a pork knuckle is worth. I ordered the haxe/knuckle (being the most expensive thing in the menu but it was my friend's treat for my big favour), with red cabbage, gerkhin salad and a fried potato side. My friend was happy to have something 'smaller' and cheaper, the Weinner Schitzel (I definitely will not eat veal!!). I usually find I can eat a 'haxe' with no real problem. The beers arrived quickly and went down well. By 1:40 the main courses arrived and the haxe was impressive, as was the Weinner Schnitzel. The haxe came with a mini saucepan of tasty gravy and a bowl of German mustard (senf). The haxe was crisp and crunchy ('crackling' in effect) on the outside and lean and succulent inside, just right and probably the best I'd ever had. Unfortunately the sides were not quite as expected (my German mum was an excellent cook) as the bratkartoffeln were not particularly tasty as had a lack of schinken (fried lean bacon bits) or even speck (fried lard) that would have improved things a lot. I'm afraid the gurkensalad was also rushed in preparation as the slices were too thick, not dried out in salt (over a few hours and squeezed 'dry'), not in sour cream but had enough dillspitzen. Furthermore the braised red cabbage was lacklustre, pale and without spices like cloves, peppercorns and no jam was added for a bit of sweetness and glazing (chefs take note: it takes time to braise and flavour red cabbage properly as does gurkensalad!). I had a taste of my friend's saurkraut and I'm afraid it was also quite dull. Maybe it is a Bavarian version (my mum is from East Prussia so Berlin cuisine is more appropriate in 'Stein's' so I was confused as it claims to serve Bavarian cuisine. Having said this I actually really enjoyed the haxe and for the first time ever could not finish it!!! I helped my friend finish his sides as he was not one for taking a doggy bag home (which the waitress offered as it is a regular occurrence!). I think we had another beer each (I am writing this on a plane to Portugal three months after) and that may have filled me up too. Whilst we were there it was obvious just how many Chinese customers there were, mostly students, and all were eating the haxe! I asked the waitress and she said that is all they ever came in for so they always had a lot of haxe in stock! We left sated and happy at about 2:30 with my doggy bag of potatoes and haxe. I could not take a picture of the bill as my friend was paying. He was happy with the outcome. The leftovers provided a tasty light lunch for two the next day!!

Stopped here as it was one of the closest restaurants to the Royal Albert Hall. The only disappointment was they had no vegan schnitzels (one of our group is vegan and has a gluten allergy) and had to make do with the vegan sausages that weren't great, but the rest of us had the normal schnitzels which were excellent. We went at 1400, and not many people were inside. Most sat outside on the windy terrace, which looked really nice. Prices were very reasonable and staff were very friendly.

Shame, as we had been twice before (although not for some time) and had a good experience. We were hesitant from the start as the guy didn’t seem to be on top of things. Ordered the wine. I tried to avoid the wrong outcome by pointing out there were 2 similar wines on the menu We got the wrong one. I took it back to the bar and the bar guy said ‘ oh, my mistake, you got the wrong one’. We soon realised that was because the one we wanted wasn’t chilled (although they had it) and they obviously thought we wouldn’t notice them serving us the cheaper one. Ended up with a slightly more expensive one but they didn’t offer any kind of accommodation on price when the bill came Our chosen starter wasn’t available ( they had the prawns but hadn’t made any risotto apparently so couldn’t serve the dish) I challenged the bill because of the wine as I would have expected at most to pay for the one we ordered. No apology and so asked for the service charge to be taken off.

I'd been to Stein's in May '22 and had a good meal. So, when an opportunity to revisit emerged I gladly booked a table for two. Not again. The service was at light speed to the point that we were out in around 30ish minutes with a bill of around £75... for two mains and two (alcoholic) drinks. It wasn't a relaxing dining experience. Worse, both my Vienna schnitzel and the chicken schnitzel that a friend had tasted of nothing and were beyond bland. They were to be fair large, but had no flavour at all. I've had schnitzel all over Germany, most famously Frau Maxi's Waldschlößchen in Colditz - just by the schloss. Now that's a meal to savour. So - would I go back to Stein's? Sadly not.

We visited for an early dinner after a trip to the V and A on Friday. The restaurant has a light modern interior with light wood and a range of seating options . The staff were very welcoming and gave us a nice table with comfortable chairs . Service was excellent and very attentive. We enjoyed the large glasses of Weissbeer and Dunkels beer and sampled a platter and a Roasted pork knuckle. Tried to eat one each but these are very large and could be shared between 2 . We had a very entertaining evening thanks to our lovely dark haired waiter and we would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a taste of real German food and drink.

So disappointed. We had to leave without ordering. Your young staff (in an empty restaurant) gave us a listless bordering on hostile greeting (and had to be prompted to do even that), grudgingly showed us to the terrece, gave us stained menus. We sat there...

This restaurant is conveniently located next to the Goethe institute and museums. It's 11 months old and feels very new. I like the wooden décor. It makes you feel as if you sit in a sauna (visually, not temperature-wise of course). The waitress was friendly...
