Steinbeck and Shaw in Watford

Went to Steinbeck and Shaw early on a busy Saturday evening. We'd always liked the atmosphere and prices of drinks were very good. Asked for Bellini, they don't do Bellinis. Asked for a mojito, no mint. Asked for a gin and tonic, given in a plastic goblet, no lemon slice available. I had a pint glass for my beer, so I couldn't understand why my wife had to have a cheap plastic one. A pretty poor experience at a cocktail bar we really used to like.

This place has a really good vibe. Great staff who are friendly, prompt service and just an all round great atmosphere. Would recommend based on my experience.

Arrived with my cousin around 3pm I think. Hottest day of the year that Saturday! Sat outside people watching and catching up. Staff hovering to make sure we were topped up. Friendly staff and great Mojitos and Pina Colada’s! Had a lovely afternoon basking in the sun, with Happy Hour thrown in for good measure! Nice place, and even if you’re not a youngster, you’re made to feel welcome. I like that!

The service here was appalling. It wasn’t especially buy but took 30 minutes for someone to come to take our drinks order after asking, then another 25 minutes before drinks arrived. Currently it’s not possible to order at the bar (COVID 19 measures) or even enquire if drinks are coming, I saw a member of become annoyed at another customer for asking for their drinks so didn’t want to check on progress in case I got the same response. The lady serving us was nice and clearly doing her best, but the service was incredibly poor. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless you want to spend most of the evening waiting for your drinks to order or arrive.

A nice bar with a good selection of cocktails and other drink, can take a while to get served, but over all not a bad bar.

Came here Saturday, was two for one on cocktails so had one in here. Service was good, atmosphere decent, real mixture of ages in here. Extensive menu. Doorman were friendly enough. Music decent and nice seating areas.
