Stargate Fish & Chips Restaurant in Blackpool

Might be a chippy but since being recently taken over this place is knocking out some seriously good Asian food. Proper authentic biryanis (not the usual quick fried rice rubbish), homestyle curries and the donner is fried in spices and a sauce and is up there with the best. Hidden gem.

Popped in for fish & chips when it first opened which were lovely. Then tried the chicken tikka curry with rice and naan which was so nice we went back 3 nights in a row for dinner. Just had the chicken karai this evening and it was beautiful. Fresh, flavoursome and beautiful tender chicken. The onion bhajis were the nicest I've ever had. The side salad box with sauces is a lovely touch and goes down a treat with the curry. Chapattis fresh and melt in the mouth. The chippy chips are cooked to perfection.Lovely friendly and helpful family too. Great prices and always fresh. Our new go too for authentic Asian food. If you haven't tried it then you are missing out 🙂thank you 🙂

Wow amazing curry and rice best I have had in years full off flavour and taste amazing put all these Asian take away to shame looking forward to trying the home made kebab next time

Perfect place to stop after a trip through the illuminations. Mixture of fish, chips and Asian curries. Our 5yo son was welcomed with a kiddy mask, and sausage in chips in a fun box. The chips were traditional chippy style chips we all love. My husband and I enjoyed lamb karai which was homely, perfectly spiced with tender meat and a large portion. Extra salad and sauce was offered and even a free portion of the freshest onion bhajis we've ever had. The staff were friendly and open and we thought the price was great. We will definitely be back and definitely recommend.

Over priced chips where reheated definitely not a Holland pie £22:50 for fish and chips and chips meat pie gravy. Think they have broke the world record for the thinnest bread DONT BOTHER 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Expensive place to eat in won't be going back there 9 pounds for long sausage and chips and curry sauce and cup of tea for 2 pounds extra I could have gone to Fleetwood and had large fish and chips and curry sauce and bread and butter and pot of tea and enjoy it

Fish was ok and the gravy and peas was ok but the chips were awful like they had been sat under a heat lamp for a few hours even took a picture but you can’t add it on here couldn’t eat them won’t be ordering again

Absolutely by far the best chip shop I have ever encountered. The meal deals are exceptionally good value. For me , the large fish is my favourite: lightly battered and lots of tasty , white fish.

Food was delivered with gravy and peas spilt out onto the chips in the bag. Rang tip and they sent out replacements. The food was really good, the puddings are gorgeous! Just a shame the just eat driver couldn’t deliver the food n one piece. Will be ordering again.

Been using this shop for a little while and I'd like to say that they make delicious fish and chips. Please try it and support a local independent trader. Both the ladies in there are really friendly and show a genuine interest. My Mum has recently had a hip replacement and they always ask how she's doing. Thank you ladies. See you soon. PS...we have relocated from down south and my brother visited at the weekend and he commented to his wife that it's the best fish and chips he's had by far!

So many times we’ve driven past in favour of Hubbards or papas. We’ll never again. Stopped here last night as the sea front was heaving with illumination traffic and nowhere to park. We got straight outside the chippy. Walked in and greeted warmly by the lad behind the counter. Placed our order and decided to sit in as it looked fresh and clean. Food arrived at table and it looked beautiful. I had the fish and my brother had the pudding . Absolutely 5 star. Puddings are homemade along with other items and the fish I had was absolutely stunning. Lightly battered anc flaky just like it should be. Chips were nice and fluffy and the curry was delicious. Not the runny muck you normally get. But the service was tremendous. Every customer greeted fantastically. Definitely our new fish and chip shop in Blackpool now . Keep it up

Think they paid for the other reviews on here as our fish and chips were greasy and not fully cooked avoid the disappointment and go for a different chippy

Lovely Cod and chips with nice crispy batter on the fish and excellent chips that were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.The curry sauce was very nice and just how I like it. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the prices are reasonable.

Best chippy in South Shore by far! Proper opening hours and friendly staff that you can have a good craic with. Home made steak puddings are a rarity in any chippy and the ones from here are amazing packed with lean meat and bursting with flavour. Fish and chips excellent too

We last came to this fish & chip shop 9 years ago and the standards then were brilliant and if it was possible to get better, they've gone to outstanding. The fish and chips were excellent (piping hot, delicious and plentiful), the staff were very friendly, polite and efficient and the cleanliness of the place was spotless. If you want to taste the best fish & chips in Blackpool (and we've been to several of the good ones), THIS is the place - the prices are brilliant too. Excellent value for money. We hope to be back soon

The BEST fish and chips in Blackpool. The fish was light and moist and the chips were cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly, attentive and very speedy. These were the nicest fish and chips I’ve ever had!

Just had a lovely chippy tea from here. Regular fish, chips and peas and home made pudding, chips, peas and gravy. Good size portions, lovely fresh fish and the pudding was lovely. Will be going again, recommended.

Called in here before Ride the Lights. Delicious fish and chips and the children’s meals are excellent value. The staff were really friendly and still smiling despite being rushed off their feet! Will definitely come here again when we are in Blackpool.

I have been to this chippy a few times now, and I have been very happy, and very full each time. The prices are the best in Blackpool as are the portions, which are massive. You can eat in or out. Very clean place. The staff are very welcoming and I wouldn't go anywhere else now. Definitely a well deserved 5 🌟

Only had curry and chips twice, but they were very good. The curry was fab and had all nice real onion in it and the chips were perfect. Generous portion size as well. Guy behind the counter gave us good customer service and decent little seating and eating area inside as well.

What a cracking chippy. We regularly use a different chippy that are on hols. But will now be eating here. Well done ladies a cracking chippy. See you very soon

20th may 2023 Chips would have been nice if they were hot. We waited for them to be cooked for 5 mins, then when we got them, they were almost cold

I thought I'd try this for the first time and I was very disappointed. I ordered fish, chips and mushy peas, chips, sausage and gravy and a chips and gravy and it tasted horrendous. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unfortunately.

Good price, massive portions and very friendly staff! We got the kids the 10 piece fish deal as my kids eat lot but they could not finish them. 10 of the biggest fish pieces known to man, and they cook them fresh. We had the large fish & chips meal deal and the fish was perfect, not greasy not dry just right. The staff were all super friendly.

Cold chips served up and when we complained the fried made fresh chips however the fish was then cold and the peas were cold not a patch on the blackpool shop.8

I think this is also called the Cottage, it said that on the receipt. I ordered 3 cones of chips, you get a huge amount - so its great value for money compared to other chip shops. The chips were also perfectly cooked - just right. Will definitely buy from again the next time we are in Blackpool. :)

It's now The Cottage Chip Shop Had the £7 special, large haddock, large chips and a large side. Delicious, cooked to order and massive, we had to leave a few chips as two of us could not eat it all! Will definitely return.

We are very pleased with the service at the now "Cottage At Stargate Chippy" the staff were pleasant and the fish and chips were very good, we would go back next time we are in the area.

Friday .28th May @16.10 pm Ordered fish n chips and scampi for delivery. Paid by card .shop Excepted order then 5 minutes later cancelled order by txt and email.saying sorry we are closed if paid will refund in 3 to 5 days . Why except and take payment . Checked their website it still open and still excepting orders . Discusting service. AVOID

The food was really nice and the staff were friendly. The only downside was that we had to wait 45 minutes as they forgot our order, they apologied.

This place has changed hands over the past year or two, size of fish has gone down and price for it has gone up. The idea of a LARGE here is most places medium/small for the fish. My local chippy has double the size of that, £2 cheaper. Didn't see a price list anywhere either. Elsewhere next time. Suzanne Kay's experience sounds about right.

Just had fish and chips on way back home to stoke half decent fish but no taste which may be not there fault worst was amount of grease tray 1/4 full chips under cooked asked for plenty of salt and vinegar got none lady behind counter complaining that they had too many people working behind there with six totally agree with that one thou

Following an amazing review of this places (Fantastic food. Lovely friendly staff) a while back I am saddened to have to edit my review. We turned up to order food and was met with a grumpy face at the counter. Not really being sure what that was we went in and ordered our food. There was some confusion with my order a number of times. I had asked for fish with a scoop of chips x 2 i(e about 10 chips and no more). I was corrected a number of times and told I'd have to order a full portion and have it split over the 2 trays. Not wanting lots of waste I confirmed that I wouldn't want a full half portion on each tray. This was agreed. The lady carrying a tiny baby whilst working shouted us to ask if we wanted salt and vinegar on the 2 fish and 1 chips. I said I would and just reminded her it was just a scoop of chips on each fish. She sarcastically said well yes but we don't have scoop of chips on our till. I was told to wait outside for our order, they proceeded to close the blinds at this point. She then appeared at the closed window and was mouthing something that I couldn't hear. I went in assuming the food was ready which it was and apologised stating I didn't hear her through the window. I again quickly explained the misunderstanding earlier and asked whether they sold cones of chips as I couldn't see it on the menu. She said she did and I then explained that a cone would be more appropriate than selling us a full portion. She asked what I wanted, explaining that it was fine and that I was just confused about the difficulty with my order and I said that some manners would have helped as she had been rude from start to finish. I was then told I was barred and told to leave or they'd call the police. At which point I was gobsmacked. All because they seemed to struggle to understand that I didn't want a mountain of chips with the order. I didn't raise my voice once and the most offensive thing I said was that she could have used manners when speaking to us. This was after she raised her voice a number of times. It later came about that she had been stressed because she'd been working all day whilst looking after an 8 week old baby and they were ready for closing which is something they didn't mention at the time of taking the money! A baby that she'd been carrying around with her and had actually walked passed me with no mask and no social distancing at all. Certainly won't be recommending this place going forward which is a shame as I have often suggested people try them out and on the day in fact had passed 2 other chippy up to go to this one. Really didn't expect to be treated like that. Please excuse the lack of any grammar on here. Did try to phone the owner to explain but there is no answer when I ring. If the owner does want to speak they just need to return my call and post will be updated to confirm that either k was treated like dirt again or that they apologised and the lady was just having a bad day. I must add that the food was reasonable good, usually amazing but in all of the ago she forgot to put salt and vinegar on! Food amazing but attitude needs a huge improvement and ideally a baby shouldn't be babysat in a chippy. Perhaps this didn't help her stress levels.

Had large fish and chips tonight and mushy peas,what a disappointment we have had this on so many occasions and it has been very good but tonight fish and chips was so disappointing the fish was not cooked raw and cold in the middle chips very limp it was a man that cooked tonight new staff needs more training so disappointed you will loose custom if you do not get this sorted.

Ordered for delivery via FoodHub, estimated delivery time said 45 minutes. After an hour and a half I drove there to find out it was closed!Had to get a refund through FoodHub.First and last time I'll ever consider buying from Squires Gate fish & chips.

Great that all products are Gluten Free, being a coeliac this is a unbelievable, I believe more places should do more Gluten Free options.
