Starfish in Ipswich

Ordered here a few times recently. Big family order each time. Ordered a wide variety from the menu, including fish (cod), curry sauce, onion rings, burgers, nuggets, sausages, hot dogs, chips and a few other bits for good measure. Everything has always been piping hot and very well cooked, great quality fresh food. Personally some of the nicest cooked and battered fish I've had in a long time, not all greasy and wet, lovely crispy delicious fish! The rest of the food also perfect and the curry sauce is also really tasty, kids loved their food too! Adding to the great food, the prices are very reasonable and you certainly won't be disappointed giving this place a go. For friendly service and excellent value for money I think its a no brainer, also definitely some very good cod and chips!

Saveloy was cold and watery, the fish was bland and the chips looked like they had been sitting there for days. Honestly the curry sauce was the only edible part of this meal. First and last time ordering from here.

The absolute worst place i have ever eaten. The whole ordering process took ages to order and i had to explain the order several times to the extremely slow cashier. After the whole ordeal i got home to find my food was raw. Under no circumstance would i suggest you eat here.

Some reasons I don't know what it is. His chips abortion chips last night and they not the best chips I ever tasted. They had really gone downhill. The chips was not nice. When you ask for large chips. You spack to get lost chips and I want that large. I got larger than that. Whatever you cook in your chips in you need to change it they are not up to my standard. It would have been cheaper. If I cook by myself with fresh potatoes I would have got a better result

Absolutely brilliant food. Best fish and chips ever.Really crispy batter. Chips done to perfection. Well worth a visit. I would definitely recommend this fish and chip shop. I will be back soon.

I went there for lunch whilst I was on a course. It was very nice; the rock eel in particular was lovely. I can highly recommend.

Absolutely scrumdiddlyumptious!! 😋 Fresh, hot, incredible batter which is still crispy when you get home…. The tastiest fish (cod bites!) and chips I have had in years and superb value for money. Staff are all friendly and incredibly helpful too! Highly recommended!!

My usual order of medium chips and battered sausage, good portion size for a very fair price. Great service provided, happy to visit again and again.

Arrived 2 mins before closing and had the most lovely welcome and service. Fish and chips cooked fresh and was delicious even provided napkins and forks. Was so good to get well cooked good priced food. Especially as A 14 was shut for miles and the detour was out to Diss to get back to Bury St Edmunds and onwards home! Thankyou will be back when in you area again.

Honestly the best chip shop in ipswich (if anywhere actually and I’ve lived in a lot of places) exceptional customer service and exceptional food, even my youngest ate every last bit which is a very uncommon occurrence for her. The pie crust was actually flaky and not soggy, the chips had a good mixture of both crispy and fluffy chips and the battered sausages were as crispy as you’d like. Thank you.

Jeremy and his staff are lovely, all items cooked to order so nothing is ever "standing around" on the hot shelf. I usually get a fish and chips with battered sausage and curry sauce, always cooked to perfection! Prices very reasonable, highly recommended.

Never buying Fish and chips from there again! I ordered large fish and small chips for £7.10. Fish wasn’t cooked well, slightly crispy outside but very mushy, not cooked in the inside. Fish and chips were too fatty. Right after eating, started feeling sick. Having abdominal pain Waste of time& money. Let down

This is an authentic English fish and chip shop. On every level it hits the desired spot! The quality is fantastic and it's cheap! This is a chippy that needs a visit. Would recommend.

This is by far my favourite chip shop out of all the ones I've tried in Ipswich. Chips are done quickly, they are delicious, the portions are generous, and custom is always friendly.

Never again, chips looked and tasted like they'd been sat in the heater for hours. 4 hours later and still feeling sick and bloated. Owner was really friendly though and battered sausage and fish were great, just the chips were a let down.

By far the best chips in ipswich. If you haven't tried them, you really must! The owner is a really lovely guy.

This place is disgusting the worst place I’ve ordered from it was aweful the pie was dry and seriously over done the saveloys was split down the middle and tasted burned like they ran out and dumped them in the microwave instead I wish I had taken pictures of everything I got but the worst part the chips was seriously over done like how can you get chips wrong it’s the easiest thing to cook

Popped in this chip shop by chance today & must say likely the best I've ever had & i just come from felixstowe which are nice to but not as nice as this place ( highly recommended ) will be returning soon :)

It is too fat. Fish wasn’t crispy, crisps were wet. It is really huge portion but I couldn’t eat the whole one

I had Fish (Haddock) and Chips here when I was visiting Ipswich about two weeks ago. I can highly recommend this place. The chips fish and batter were perfect and I've been to some award-winning places that would struggle to compete. I had medium fish and chips and the portions were more than enough and at a very fair price. The only downside is I live about an hour and a half away, but next time I'm in Ipswich I know where my first port of call will be.

I've lived in the area only several months but I've found the staff to be very pleasant and friendly and also the food quality is very on point and I am pleased to say their battered burgers in a bun are very tasty!!!

Very pleasant friendly staff. Food cooked to order. Very reasonably priced. Small portion of chips was more than enough for me, and at £1.60, much cheaper than our local chippie whose regular bag of chips is £2.00. Lots to choose from on the menu board. Tasty too.

Awful. Considering we had 2 wait for everything 2 b cooked. Chips were brown & hard as though cooked in month old oil about three times over, not fresh, yukky. Battered sausages, wot batter, barely any on them, horrid. No saveloys available, no gherkins. Never use them again.

I visited this chip shop by chance on Saturday lunch time and must say the chips were amazing, best I have ever had, even better than Aldeburgh fish & chips and was so so clean and sparkly there. The Owner was so friendly and helpful, was a pleasure to visit - will certainly be back for more

The quality of the fish and chips has really gone down. The size of the fish is so small now. We used to use this fish and chip shop regularly. We carried on using this fish and chip shop for several weeks thinking the old owner was on holiday, but soon realised things had changed. We don’t use it anymore now, and since looking on trip advisor have realised that it is under new ownership.

This used to be an awesome fish and chip shop but since it has been taken over by new owners the quality of the food is appalling and the staff appear clueless and untrained. We have been twice in the past couple of months to allow for “teething errors” but this evening once again I was served dry crispy burnt “scraps” instead of chips and the fish was also very small with over cooked batter. Such a shame as it used to be the best fish and chips in Ipswich.

Guys are always friendly. Food is great and cheap. Their small portions is not small!

Superb and popular award-winning Fish and Chip shop. With a very friendly service, their top quality fish is fresh and cooked to order. A quick but significant update; the original lovely owners have sold up and moved on, so reviews to date are no longer appropriate and didn't ought to be still available on this site. The new owners, trained by Wing, are apparently buying their fish from the same source and doubtless trying to emulate the former quality of product that was enjoyed by all but they are new to the business and on a steep learning curve. I have been there once since the new owners have been in place, so I don't feel qualified to give a fair review.

This is my local fish and chip shop and has recently been taken over. The service is great and the curry sauce is to die for. Keep it up.

Everyone's idea of the perfect chip is different. My perfect chip is just like the ones they serve at The Starfish. Colour, texture, taste- it's a full on 10 from me. Staff are friendly and the food freshly cooked. Worth a detour for.

We bought our lunch from Starfish whilst visiting our son over the bank holiday weekend. As someone who lives in Yorkshire and has visited many fish and chip shops over the years I can honestly say these were the best I have ever had. They were cooked fresh so were very hot, the chips were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, the batter was crispy and cooked to perfection and the haddock was excellent. I bought some ketchup which I normally dip my chips in but I didn't use it as everything was so tasty. Highly recommended.

We regularly travel from Peterborough to get fish and chips here. Have been using them for a number of years and it is consistently excellent food and friendly staff is why we keep coming back.

Siempre nos han pescado y patatas fritas en viernes, así que cuando visitamos a nuestro hijo y nuera en Ipswich pensamos que íbamos a perder nuestro regalo. Nos preocupamos innecesariamente. La estrella de "fish and chips" nos sirvió muy bien cocinado fresco, papas fritas. Muy sabroso bacalao, todos preparados con mantequilla fresca y caliente. No podemos esperar a volver de nuevo. Ispwich Starfish bien hecho!

No salt or vinegar upon opening the takeaway bag. Fish was ok but was dry on inside and oily on outside. This is a cash only only establishment and I have a right mind to report it to HMRC. No receipt. I paid 30p more for the fish and chips as a gesture of good will. When it come to asking for a squeeze of ketchup they tried to charge 20p. I didn't have it as gave an overdue tip and had no coins left. To rub non existent metaphorical salt in the wounds there were several open ketchup bottles on the side - why did I need to buy a little sachet when they had it on tap?
