Ocean Fish Platter in Ipswich

We love good seafood and the reviews for this really restaurant stood out among the crowd. It was also within easy walking distance of Ipswich marina where we were based. It was a buzzy, lively atmosphere which my wife prefers, service was attentive but not overly so, the quality of the seafood and wine selection spoke for itself. I'd certainly recommend the oysters (reasonably priced) and the spicy squid main (with rice), I didn't think I could clear the plate but it was that good I managed it. My wife had scampi and fries, a dish she is very fond of and commented how good the tartar sauce was. Also give the Turkish wines a try, they were a very good match for the seafood.

Very good service and lovely staff. The ocean sharing platter was very delicious with their special sauces, very fresh and flavourful.

Great menu, lots of choice, perfectly prepared and cooked. My wife is a fish and chips aficionado and she said that the fish and chips were the best she's had in a long time. My fish combo with rice was fantastic. Would return if visiting the area again. Just wish we had an Ocean Fish Platter on the South Coast.

OFP is a wonderful seafood restaurant. The menu is extensive, the portions are more than generous and food is delicious. No wonder we are regular customers!

Today I visited the restaurant with my family and was very disappointed: the dishes were beautifully presented, but the scallops were oversalted and inedible, the mussels were in overcooked sauce, and half of the shells were empty. We paid 174.57 and left disappointed.

I went here yesterday with my grandmother for her birthday and had the pan fried trio which was incredible. The starberry daiquiri I had was really good too! The waitress we had was lovely, attentive and checked with us several times to make sure we were doing ok. I was a bit disappointed to see multiple staff members sat towards the back just on their phones when we had paid and started to leave as my grandmother has limited mobility due to being disabled and not one person came to lend a hand.

Simple but great seafood and excellent service.

Shared a fish cake and had a grilled sea bass with calamari with a side of salad. Fish was very nice and was very surprised it had no bones. Salad was fresh and had a nice crunch. Would recommend. If I come down there again I think I will try the calamari salad and a salmon dish

We had the Ocean Platter for 2 as a lunchtime meal, which was absolutely delicious. It was a birthday celebration meal. The table was decorated with red rose petals, balloons and we enjoyed a special dessert too. The service was excellent and can't fault any aspect of eating there. Can't wait to return.

Mussels, Turkish bread which came with it, skate wings, and the pan fried vegetables, were all very tasty, customer service was good as well, will definitely be back.

Took my mum for lunch for a belated mother's day treat. And ocean platter didn't disappoint. The cod and chips was delicious. And the waiter was friendly and attentive.

The food was so fresh and delicious. The waiters were courteous and jovial. Service was fast, and music was just at the right volume. A good restaurant to enjoy fresh and tasty seafood meals. The live lobsters in the aquarium provide a certain kind of entertainment 😅😅

We were sitting at the back near the door to the washing up area which meant there was a lot of passing staff so it was a bit cramped and noisy. However after our starter they moved us across a table into a quieter area which made the dining experience much more enjoyable. The moules mariniere starter was very enjoyable and the Turkish bread was really nice. The scallops starter was nice although I don’t know if I would gab it again since I am not a fan of salsa. For mains we had the ocean fish platter for two, the sea bass was amazing, the prawns very good, the calamari was nice and the muscles came in a different sauce to the starter which was very nice. As a side we had the pan fried vegetables but we wouldn’t have them again as they were in a tomato sauce. I wouldn’t recommend the moules mariniere as a main because although nice it became very samey so I would recommend it as a starter instead. Overall it was excellent.

Our first visit - but definitely not our last. The plaice and chips was delightful. Service was quiet, subtle and very efficient. With Mum using a walking frame we were able to leave via a rear exit, thus avoiding entrance steps. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic food, so nice to find a fish restaurant without extortionate prices. Admittedly, from the outside, you wouldn't think the food is so fabulous, as the outside looks like a standard fish and chip shop, but never judge a book by its cover because it is a really lovely restaurant with really great food.

Paid a welcome visit to this excellent seafood restaurant last night with the lady and her sister. I have eaten here many times since it opened with the majority of those meals very good. Last night was possibly the best meal I’d had with all 3 of us throughly enjoying our choices. My starter was the Grilled Whole King Prawns, which was excellent. Really good prawns don’t need to be mucked about with and these weren’t, light marinade and fresh salsa with lemon; perfect. Other starters were the deep fried Calamari served with tartar sauce and fresh salad and Crab salad for the lady. Three cleaned plates! Mains followed the same pattern, I had the grilled Skate, baby pots and salad, just brilliant! The pot of sweet chilli sauce that arrived with the meal was out of place and discarded, just the wrong choice and I missed some capers, but a small thing that didn’t spoil what was a supremely fresh piece of fish. Swordfish with orange sauce and Turkish Baked Cod for the ladies, baby potatoes and plenty of fresh salad meant the night was enjoyed by all, with the very chilled New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc meaning I’m already looking to go back!

A hidden gem in Ipswich with great food and excellent service. If you like fish and seafood - you'll really like this place, and if you don't, you will still find options that are nice. Main courses came in at around £18-£25 p.p. and portion sizes were good. Would highly recommend 👍

We dined here for valentine’s night with the set menu, absolutely amazing food and very attentive staff. The set menu was excellent and i thought very accommodating. So this leads me onto my gripe, not with the restaurant but with other people, the couple next to us got up and left because the menu wasn’t to their taste and the group behind us had a complaint that they didn’t like part of the menu, THIS was a set menu which we were made fully aware of when we booked, don’t go to a seafood restaurant if you don’t like seafood!! The staff are amazing, food top notch and we will be back. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Wasn't as affordable as I thought but we were looked after; the staff were ready to help, efficient and friendly. Most importantly the food was good, I had good fresh sea bass and the portions were generously sized. It can be a bit noisy due to the open plan arrangement of the dining area.

Me and my family have eaten in and also had take aways from here absolutely amazing food and great service and would highly recommend anyone to visit this amazing restaurant staff always friendly and polite and would definitely be returning again very soon

Great atmosphere and lovely customer service. The provided quick handouts of our meals and timed it perfectly from started to main meals. They changed our cutlery and tissue each time. Since it was my father’s 50th birthday, they even added balloons and gave a complimentary dessert and sang happy birthday without asking. The price matches the quality and quantity for our meals. Overall wonderful experience and would go again.

End up in Ipswich today. I was looking for fish and chips but the moment I saw on the menu fish pie 🥧 I had to try it out!! Super generous. Wll served!! More fish than potato 🥔 Super tasty 🤤😋 Very nice fresh salad 🥗 included. As well as a very generous serving of fresh fries. Totally recommend!! Lovely place to go by yourself or with your loved one!!

Delicious lunch today. Everything freshly prepared and cooked. My daughter was able to have gluten free calamari and gluten free battered fish and chips. Fish cakes were delicious. Large portions and good quality. Our waitress was lovely. Not too loud inside so my mum was able to hear and join in the conversation!

Long lunch with old school friends.Not what you expect from the frontage but just go beyond the door and you'll find Ipswich's best kept secret! What a gem of a place. Mostly fish but there is pasta and a burger. The fish though is to die for.So fresh you'd think they caught them out back and lobsters in a tank but not for the faint hearted Service and ambience was great Definitely a place on a need to know basis! Ssh!!!

Four of us thoroughly enjoyed our delicious meal. The Scallops, Calamari starters were excellent. However, the Specials Halibut in a cream, Parmesan Chilli sauce was unctuous. The portion of Halibut was very generous but the execution with the charred pepper and additional roasted vegetables and new potato’s was great. We haven’t enjoyed a meal like this in the UK for a very long time. We are big fish eaters and spend a lot of time in Croatia where we enjoy great fish but this was excellent and we can thoroughly recommend.

Came for lunch with old school friends, some not seen for 50+yrs. We were looked after so well, no one tried to rush us, they gave us loads of time to chat before asking if we were ready to order. Young waitress had unobtrusively got us all a drink while we chatted. Our orders were taken and the food, beautifully cooked and presented, came in good time. Plates were cleared and hot drinks brought and still we chatted on. Waitress was asked if they were OK with us still sitting there and it was nice that she said they were open till 10pm, stay as long as we wanted, just let her know if we wanted anything. Even offered us tapwater! When we left both waiter and waitress came to thank us for coming and say farewell. Great food, great service.....we will return.

This place is a regular with myself and my family. There's no better cooked fish and chips anywhere in this world. Up dated 03/01/2025 Not been for 2 months personal reasons. But turned on a Friday night greeted like a king . The welcoming we got asking about family etc just proves this is more then a restaurant. The waiters ,chefs are second to none we polite service quality food. Never rushed to get you out like some . The food is the best and please try some of there Turkish starters and afters . Update October 2024 as before absolutely amazing still 100% perfect food service Amazing thank you again Service is 10 out 10 Thank you everyone

Fabulous fresh fish and seafood. Extensive menu. Great service and excellent value for money. Each dish came absolutely packed with fresh fish & seafood - no padding out six prawns with a bunch of cheap veg. Every forkful was loaded with delicious seafood.

Amazing place for a decent dinner. Seafood items are ample in portion and taste wise outstanding. Will visit this place again!

My grandson and I had a lunch time meal with our family to help celebrate our joint birthdays. The waiters and waitresses were so nice and nothing was too much bother. All the staff had smiles and looked like they enjoyed being there as well. I have to mention the chefs, we all had excellent meals and the oysters and mussels were prepared perfectly. The fish were grilled to perfection and the chips were crispy with a nice soft centre; perfect again. The Ocean Fish Platter is now on our list of favourite restaurants as it is most definitely much more than your standard Fish and Chips venue. We look forward to returning and experiencing another meal from their menu.

This is the best fish restaurant in the Suffolk area. It has a wonderful ambiance, delicious fish, and fantastic service. It's a great place to introduce your kids to seafood, as the flavors are just amazing. I had the most delicious calamari and grilled fish I've ever tasted in my life.

Visited on Saturday evening with friends. Had a lovely time. Restaurant has a fantastic ambience with very attentive staff, putting balloons and rose petals on the table for our friends' anniversary. The food was excellent we all agreed great place to visit. Only issue I felt queezy on my way home I was I was up all night vomiting etc 😒 🙄 I had a prawn cocktail as my mains!!!

Wanted a nice place to hang out with friends. Found this gem through Trip Advisor. Yeah those 5 stars are valid. The halibut, sea bass, cod & salmon were simply exquisite. A bit steep. But will I go back? Hell, yeah!

Mixed review. Went on Sunday for my daughters birthday, 4 of us. It was very busy but there were plenty of staff. Didn’t wait too long to be seated, but waited 15 minutes before having to get up and ask for menus, it's like we were invisible. A theme that continued with us waiting about 45 minutes to an hour for starters and then again for the mains. Tables that arrived after us were served before us and left before us. Starters were lovely, calamari and moules marinières. Main was really disappointing, especially at £50 a portion. The lobster and king prawns were served on a skillet, which whilst looked impressive meant it kept cooking bith and the became overdone, chewy and rubbery, and what was supposed to be garlic butter was just burnt butter with no garlic flavour at all. It was so difficult to eat as was absolutely boiling with nowhere to move it off to cool. As we went specifically for the lobster it was such a shame to have it so overdone. The chips were chip shop chip style (nice, but for me fries with lobster win every time) as was the decor. Bit of an odd vibe as the style and the menu/prices are somewhat of a mismatch, to me I'd expect it classier but it's more cafe than restaurant and furniture is absolutely rammed in with limited space to move between tables. Got a cheesecake, singing and birthday balloons which was a nice touch, but the waiting had made it less special. 2 of our party left the restaurant and still we weren't given our bill. I did ask them to remove the service charge as it just didn't feel earned. Not what you'd expect for a £200 meal. No apologies for delays at any point along the way.

Was going to get a hot curry but changed my mind and since by the coast I got fish and chips. This restaurant didn't look that big from outside but was really deep. I was thinking of grill skate wings but just went for halibut with chips. Chips were really good, great colour taste and non greasy. The fish was in a good batter and hot flakey fish. Nothing will beat my walk from college on a cold dark night with a cod and chips 35 years ago. Best Fish and chips ever. Anyway, with a couple of beers came just over £30. 2 Oysters for starters because I am like that! The service is really good also.

Time and time again food never ever fails to disappoint we have eaten here on numerous occasions food is always 10/10 nothing is too much for the staff it’s one of our favourites

Arrived here Monday lunchtime when it was completely empty, was seated, then another male customer came in just after us but ignored the wait to be seated sign that was near the door and went straight to the staff member that had seated us, the customer was sat at a table. Then it had been around 5 -10 minutes since we had been seated and I look over and not only has he been seated but he has received a drink already whilst we were still yet to even receive a menu, from this we walked out, appalling service especially considering it was empty and there was a lot of staff that we could see available at the back of the restaurant.

I ve deleted my review from when i use to go here regularly some time ago now and when it was 5 star from top to bottom. But Saturday was not a good experance and there's was so many things not right that I did nt even complain about most of it as I felt that was all I was doing..if the meal was nt for someone else I would of got up and left when the oysters came on mostly melted ice because they ov been sitting around waiting to be delivered to our table...all i can put it down to is they were to busy for them to handle..I doubt I will be back unless I go in daytime at some point...but i will not make this a place for special occasions anymore 😔

Visited this restaurant from London. This is a fantastic restaurant. Food is so great and customer service on another level. Served by a Guy called Josh and i have never seen a young guy so sincere and dedicated to his Job. .I am visiting again soon.

As always excellent food and service. They just know how to cook fish and there is nowhere near here that can compete, even the so called fine dining restaurants that charge a fortune for fish. Wine list is good too. And in these days of rising prices you will find the bill very digestible!

What a lovely find! Everything was lovely, great service and such a nice range of seafood. Early Friday evening (6pm) pre-theatre meal - superb service and staff. Ocean platter at £27.50 pp including sides was incredibly good value. Some nice Mediterranean/ Turkish spiced options for more adventurous, fresh (there’s a tank) lobster and oysters available plus gourmet burgers/traditional fish and chips. Open kitchen so could see hygiene standards high. We will be back!

Food was amazing and appropriately priced. Decor is nice and the staff are friendly. Milkshake are disappointing, wouldn't recommend them.

Went in for a birthday meal. When we got there, the table was decorated with birthday balloons and rose petals. Our waiter was extremely attentive without being overbearing and couldn't have done more to please. We ordered the Tempura Shrimp, Scallops and the moules mariniere to start. All we're superb! Then for mains, we shared an ocean platter and a couple of extra sides. There was more than enough food for the 3 of us and everything was utterly delicious! When dessert came, they had decorated the birthday persons plate and sang/played happy birthday. The whole meal came to just over £150 for the 3 of us including service charge for a 3 course meal which I think is extremely reasonable. Will definitely return and have already recommended to friends of ours

I want to write an honest review because it was quite disappointing. There were three tables there at the moment, and our food was cold. The chef arrived after we voiced our concerns about the meal. Our discomfort was much increased by his rudeness and condescension. Turning away from the problems, the chef went back to work in the kitchen. We immediately asked for the bill because the waitresses' attitude toward us had become more nasty after this. Our bill was subsequently updated with a service charge. We just paid and walked away, even though we didn't want to pay it or have any further arguments. Presumably, we won't be returning. 😡

Everything was excellent, the reason I have marked the atmosphere down is purely down to the fact it was midweek and not very busy however,I am sure evening would be much better. I highly recommend this establishment.

A very enjoyable place to have a nice meal

We'd been recommended to this delightful restaurant by other foodie friends. I must say we were slightly dubious given the location of the restaurant in a somewhat downtrodden part of Ipswich I seldom venture to. Whilst it's a little underwhelming from the outside, it is amazingly large and far better inside and run by a very efficient and friendly Turkish gentleman. I had a Gordons and tonic [9.00] and my partner 1 x 250ml glasses of Ephesus Sultaniye [8.95] - a Turkish white wine. We shared a delicious Calamari starter [8.95] We both chose a generous Seafood Casserole [45.00] with one portion of rice and one portion of mixed salad included. My partner had a Double Espresso [2.80] Sub Total [74.70] + 10% Service Charge [7.47] = Total: £82.17 All the staff were friendly, helpful and charming, with prompt service and the food was of a very high standard. We arrived before our 6pm reservation and shown to a lovely table we'd reserved by the window. The restaurant quickly began to fill up with diners soon afterwards and gather its essential to pre-book at the weekends and evenings. One table was celebrating a birthday with balloons and the table suitably decorated; I presume at no extra cost. The Manager was so kind and helpful to us and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities at the rear of the restaurant were also clean, large and impressive, which is a big plus in my book. I would strongly recommend you give this place a try and feel sure you won't be disappointed. There is plenty of disabled parking along Upper Brook Street and a large car park nearby. However, beware that disabled parking is only available until 4pm. We will certainly return again but for lunch next time.

The chips were amazing and a good portion size. Josh who served us was excellent. The price was decent and worth it for the food. We will be back! :)

Delicious food, huge serving, reasonably priced!

The food was excellent, and the staff were wonderful. It can be a little on the noisy side, but not terrible. I would suggest seating away from windows at front in the evening as Ipswich's finest walk past every 5 mins! Seafood casserole was excellent.

Great food, really fresh and beautifully cooked. Highly recommend the platters and really good attentive service.
