Ocean Fish Platter in Ipswich

Delicious fish and generous sides! Went with a colleague. I had the grilled haddock with olive oil and garlic glaze. Very tasty. Meat was tender and delicious. Sides I had rice and chips. Waiting staff were very polite and cheerful. I'll look to revisit in the near future!

Never judge a book by its cover. Go in and see for yourself, it was simply amazing!!

Went for a Birthday Lunch for my partner along with our son. Food was excellent and plentiful, very rich but well worth the price. Staff were very friendly and at the end of the meal they came out with a special cake to celebrate the birthday. All in all a very nice meal and good value for money. Will definitely go back again.

We booked the restaurant for My wife’s birthday.The service was impeccable.The staff were so friendly and went out of their way,had rose petals on the table with balloons and also got a free desert at the end with a bday song.She is over the moon!! The food was fantastic,we had the Meze platter starters and the ocean platter sharer combo and we loved it,would recommend and happy to come back again..

The fish dishes are excellent, however they do not know how to cook chips properly. The chips are anaemic to look at. Chips should be crisp and golden brown on the outside and soft fluffy and tasty inside.

Sadly a victim of its own success. Food good and well cooked. Service very poor with meals arriving in dribs and drabs, one meal should have had chips but they didn't arrive until meal almost finished. Drinks took forever and some didn't arrive at all. Not a great experience tbh.

Awesome, highly recommended the octopus and seafood Casserole.

The only downside was that there was a bit of a wait for our reservation but the stunning food and the lovely staff more than made up for it!

Nice food. Not remotely accessible. Before visiting I checked the Google maps listing which said it was wheelchair accessible. It's not at all. I mentioned needing wheelchair access in my reservation and nobody corrected me and we didn't have a specific table booked. Had to leave out of the kitchen after carefully walking to our table to get in. No accessibility information listed on their website either despite mentioning their "casual" dress code as if that's more important.

Definitely worth a visit. I had a grilled cod fillet and it was amazing. Not cheap, but you pay for quality. I'll be going back there again sometime in the future.

Not the best experience I’ve ever had. Food not what I’d expect for the price and even when we mentioned an issue to staff they did not seem bothered or resolve it. Also when bill came they tried to charge us for more drinks than we had. Did not even apologise when this was highlighted.

Very popular - and therefore busy - fish and chips restaurant in the heart of Ipswich. We were lucky to get the last table! Both cod and haddock very good, and come with mushy peas and tartar sauce.

Amazing food, great menu. So hard to choose. Glad I didn't have lobster as I was sitting next to them and I felt guilty. They made a mistake with the bill and we didn't even notice they came back with our change. So lovely of them.

I've been here three times in the last couple of months, and the food is always absolutely bang on. I have had the specials twice (lobster & calamari the first time, and then octopus & squid the other, and had the grilled halibut the other time. My partner had the fried skate wing once and then grilled skate wing the other times. Friendly vibes too - Can highly recommend!

1st time coming here, absolutely stunning meal for my birthday meal, the staff where great the birthday balloons and dessert where a great touch the food was out of this world would highly recommend.

Love the Ocean Fish Platter the quality and quantity of food is always just right add to that super service and you have a winning combination. The restaurant looks like a fish and chip shop from the outside and indeed they do serve fish and chips but the other dishes on offer are amazingly tasty so be sure not to miss out if you visit! They are the no1 rated restaurant for good reason and they come highly recommended if you like seafood and are in Ipswich.

Was looking for sit-down fish and chips and wasn't wanting standard pub fare when I happened to find this place on google maps (the last place I looked at). Phoned and booked a table, and set out on a very wet and dark night into Ipswich. Conveniently placed just by a car park (good as it is right in the centre opposite Sainsburys) you'd probably miss this place if you were walking on the street and not paying attention, but like all the "hidden gems" we ventured in. We were welcomed and shown to our table, and looked after well. They were busy with no less than 3 birthday parties on the night we visited, but the staff still coped well. Food wise, we were torn - we went in for fish-n-chips, but what was on the menu and being brought out from the kitchen all looked amazing (the table next to us had a platter with the most gigantic prawns I've seen in this country!) so after much deliberation we decided to keep it simple on this visit. My colleagues had oysters to start which looked superb and were well received. We all opted for Cod and Chips with mushy peas - not adventurous, but still a fantastic meal if done well. We were not disappointed. The cod was cooked perfectly, the batter spot on, crispy but light. The chips were substantial and cooked perfectly, and the home-made mushy peas were spot on. All things considered, excellent. We opted for desert too (those that still had room after the large pieces of fish!) and these were excellent too. Overall we were all very impressed, and will be back again in the coming weeks to try more from the menu!

We were visited saturday ( last night ) for dinner with whole family . It was a very nice atmosphere, very delicious food and friendly staff , the money we paid for the food ao much worthy. I want to give special thanks to young boy who served our table Josh he is very cheerful and always smilling , he really understood what exactly we needs , all the other staffs were also very frendly . Simple ingredients but cooked to perfection. The fish was full of flavour and the king prawns were the best I’ve ever tasted. Service was great too.

We visited as a family on a Saturday evening, shown to our table and whilst choosing drinks we noticed our table and menus had ants crawling over them, I had ants also crawling over me, asked the waitress if we could move table, was l left sitting for another 5 minutes before we were told we could not be moved, no apology, in fact staff were quite rude and did not seem bothered in the slightest. After 20 minutes we were moved table but again no apology. Really impacted our visit and soured a nice family meal as the food is good.

I can’t praise this restaurant enough! When making the booking, I mentioned that we were visiting Ipswich for a couple of days to celebrate the birthday of my fiancé. We arrived to find a table festooned with petals, fresh flowers and a balloon! We both ordered the sea bass and can honestly say it was the best we have eaten in this country. It strongly rivalled similar dishes we have enjoyed abroad and the potatoes and vegetables that accompanied it were packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. We then had a firework dessert! We got to chat with the chef and he was delightful and very knowledgeable. It’s worth travelling to Ipswich just to eat here. 5 stars is not enough!

Not our local restaurant. As reviews were good. Decided to try for an evening meal. Staff very friendly, food was cooked with passion and delicious. Portions size is good. Home made chips are superb. Highly recommended.

Fantastic food. We had the mussels, grilled king prawns and fish cake as starters. Everything was beautifully cooked. Creamy sauce with the mussels is to die for. Delicious main course, sea bass with vegetables, cod fish with chips and mushy peas. Can’t fault anything, lovely...

Everything was perfect and gave us some free birthday balloons for my son. At the end they even threw a little party with a free small cake. The waiters are all lovely and kind people. I 100% recommend for anyone who wants to try some good seafood!!

Fantastic seafood. We had crispy calamari and an amazing spicy fish kebab. Also delicious generous portion of Baklava and ice cream. Best seafood restaurant we have been to for a long time. If you love fish and seafood (mussels, lobster, prawns, octopus), you need to try Ocean Fish Platter. The food smells, look and have a fantastic taste. They are very professional and helpful because they made for me a very tasty vegan dish(falafel with roast pepper and aubergine, hummus, olives, salad and some sous)My wife said to me that special platter (seafood, octopus, lobster) was really tasty and she will come back soon to try another dish. This place is unassuming but a small gem in the heart of Ipswich. The waiting staff are incredibly thorough, but not to the point of feeling hassled. The food that was served was cooked to perfection, i had cod while my partner had haddock and we were both very much impressed. The service was incredibly friendly and the atmosphere was perfect. The Ocean Fish Platter restaurant has very good reviews from customers. I want to say that they deserve it very much. The restaurant has an interesting decor and the service men are nice and smiling. The dishes we ordered were; Ocean Platter for 2 with chips and salad and grilled sea bass. The dishes arrived quickly and were nicely presented. The dishes were really tasty and well seasoned. Prices may seem high, but this is normal for good quality seafood. We recommend it to all seafood lovers.

The food was brilliant and the Staff were amazing. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant. We ate before going to the theatre and I picked up a What's On guide so that I can go back and eat here again.

Visited recently, my first time here. It was a quiet night, so not much of an atmosphere, but I do enjoy a more peaceful meal. The food was absolutely amazing! I ordered the tempura kind prawns for starters, and I was thoroughly impressed! You get the large prawns, not the usual mid sized "King prawns" most places do. The batter was perfectly crisp and golden. The side salad it comes with was fresh, and although I'm not usually a fan of vinaigrette I ate every last bite! The sweet chilli sauce was the perfect addition of flavour and every bite was a tantalising dance for my taste buds! And, as I say, that was only the starter! I ordered the halibut steak with baby potatoes. Wow. Just..wow. the halibut was cooked to perfection! The gentle sear, the tender and fresh meat! The chef seriously did an amazing job with this dish! The baby potatoes was soft, yet firm enough to not be squished by the fork. The dressing on the plate was perfect for gliding the potatoes over to add that little flavour boost. And I couldn't praise this dish more highly! I had never tried oyster before, so I ordered one. The staff were great with explaining how to eat it, and what it's like. I was advised by a friend to add some lemon juice and tobasco sauce, and I did. I also added a few drops of the shallot vinaigrette. Instead of simply swallowing the oyster I allowed it to sit on my tongue for a moment so I could taste the flavour, and I wasn't disappointed. I've been told oysters can be hit or miss.. this one definitely hit! And I am a very fussy eater! The white wine was a welcomed pallette cleanser throughout. Subtle fruity tones. Not too overpowering. And definitely a good choice for the varied fish dishes. For those who don't mind paying for quality food that is fresh and cooked to perfection, this is the place for you! 10/10. Would definitely recommend to a friend, and already have done exactly that! Thank you to the staff for a delicious meal and a very joyous evening.

The worst thing about Ocean Fish Platter is trying to make a decision on what to order! Once you do, the food is delicious and generously portioned. Recommend booking as it can get really busy (especially on a Friday).

Just on the high st. We had the fish & chips which were really lovely. I found the tartare sauce tasted a bit odd until I realised it was garlic sauce! Would have preferred tartar. Great service & nice clean loos. Would recommend.
