Ocean Fish Platter in Ipswich

Delicious lunch today. Everything freshly prepared and cooked. My daughter was able to have gluten free calamari and gluten free battered fish and chips. Fish cakes were delicious. Large portions and good quality. Our waitress was lovely. Not too loud inside so my mum was able to hear and join in the conversation!

Great food and service. Surprisingly slower service when it's less busy! Best Fish and chips around Ipswich. Great fish options including fresh lobster if you feel like splurging.

Long lunch with old school friends.Not what you expect from the frontage but just go beyond the door and you'll find Ipswich's best kept secret! What a gem of a place. Mostly fish but there is pasta and a burger. The fish though is to die for.So fresh you'd think they caught them out back and lobsters in a tank but not for the faint hearted Service and ambience was great Definitely a place on a need to know basis! Ssh!!!

Came for lunch with old school friends, some not seen for 50+yrs. We were looked after so well, no one tried to rush us, they gave us loads of time to chat before asking if we were ready to order. Young waitress had unobtrusively got us all a drink while we chatted. Our orders were taken and the food, beautifully cooked and presented, came in good time. Plates were cleared and hot drinks brought and still we chatted on. Waitress was asked if they were OK with us still sitting there and it was nice that she said they were open till 10pm, stay as long as we wanted, just let her know if we wanted anything. Even offered us tapwater! When we left both waiter and waitress came to thank us for coming and say farewell. Great food, great service.....we will return.

This place is a regular with myself and my family. There's no better cooked fish and chips anywhere in this world. Up dated 03/01/2025 Not been for 2 months personal reasons. But turned on a Friday night greeted like a king . The welcoming we got asking about family etc just proves this is more then a restaurant. The waiters ,chefs are second to none we polite service quality food. Never rushed to get you out like some . The food is the best and please try some of there Turkish starters and afters . Update October 2024 as before absolutely amazing still 100% perfect food service Amazing thank you again Service is 10 out 10 Thank you everyone

Fabulous fresh fish and seafood. Extensive menu. Great service and excellent value for money. Each dish came absolutely packed with fresh fish & seafood - no padding out six prawns with a bunch of cheap veg. Every forkful was loaded with delicious seafood.

Amazing place for a decent dinner. Seafood items are ample in portion and taste wise outstanding. Will visit this place again!

My grandson and I had a lunch time meal with our family to help celebrate our joint birthdays. The waiters and waitresses were so nice and nothing was too much bother. All the staff had smiles and looked like they enjoyed being there as well. I have to mention the chefs, we all had excellent meals and the oysters and mussels were prepared perfectly. The fish were grilled to perfection and the chips were crispy with a nice soft centre; perfect again. The Ocean Fish Platter is now on our list of favourite restaurants as it is most definitely much more than your standard Fish and Chips venue. We look forward to returning and experiencing another meal from their menu.

This is the best fish restaurant in the Suffolk area. It has a wonderful ambiance, delicious fish, and fantastic service. It's a great place to introduce your kids to seafood, as the flavors are just amazing. I had the most delicious calamari and grilled fish I've ever tasted in my life.

Visited on Saturday evening with friends. Had a lovely time. Restaurant has a fantastic ambience with very attentive staff, putting balloons and rose petals on the table for our friends' anniversary. The food was excellent we all agreed great place to visit. Only issue I felt queezy on my way home I was I was up all night vomiting etc 😒 🙄 I had a prawn cocktail as my mains!!!

Wanted a nice place to hang out with friends. Found this gem through Trip Advisor. Yeah those 5 stars are valid. The halibut, sea bass, cod & salmon were simply exquisite. A bit steep. But will I go back? Hell, yeah!

Just had a lovely birthday lunch here. First time we've been and we will be back. Excellent choice of food, delicious food, friendly and helpful staff. Made my day with the balloons flower petals cake and singing. Would highly recommend

Freshly cook, great produce, good environment and professional and friendly staff

Mixed review. Went on Sunday for my daughters birthday, 4 of us. It was very busy but there were plenty of staff. Didn’t wait too long to be seated, but waited 15 minutes before having to get up and ask for menus, it's like we were invisible. A theme that continued with us waiting about 45 minutes to an hour for starters and then again for the mains. Tables that arrived after us were served before us and left before us. Starters were lovely, calamari and moules marinières. Main was really disappointing, especially at £50 a portion. The lobster and king prawns were served on a skillet, which whilst looked impressive meant it kept cooking bith and the became overdone, chewy and rubbery, and what was supposed to be garlic butter was just burnt butter with no garlic flavour at all. It was so difficult to eat as was absolutely boiling with nowhere to move it off to cool. As we went specifically for the lobster it was such a shame to have it so overdone. The chips were chip shop chip style (nice, but for me fries with lobster win every time) as was the decor. Bit of an odd vibe as the style and the menu/prices are somewhat of a mismatch, to me I'd expect it classier but it's more cafe than restaurant and furniture is absolutely rammed in with limited space to move between tables. Got a cheesecake, singing and birthday balloons which was a nice touch, but the waiting had made it less special. 2 of our party left the restaurant and still we weren't given our bill. I did ask them to remove the service charge as it just didn't feel earned. Not what you'd expect for a £200 meal. No apologies for delays at any point along the way.

Was going to get a hot curry but changed my mind and since by the coast I got fish and chips. This restaurant didn't look that big from outside but was really deep. I was thinking of grill skate wings but just went for halibut with chips. Chips were really good, great colour taste and non greasy. The fish was in a good batter and hot flakey fish. Nothing will beat my walk from college on a cold dark night with a cod and chips 35 years ago. Best Fish and chips ever. Anyway, with a couple of beers came just over £30. 2 Oysters for starters because I am like that! The service is really good also.

Time and time again food never ever fails to disappoint we have eaten here on numerous occasions food is always 10/10 nothing is too much for the staff it’s one of our favourites

Arrived here Monday lunchtime when it was completely empty, was seated, then another male customer came in just after us but ignored the wait to be seated sign that was near the door and went straight to the staff member that had seated us, the customer was sat at a table. Then it had been around 5 -10 minutes since we had been seated and I look over and not only has he been seated but he has received a drink already whilst we were still yet to even receive a menu, from this we walked out, appalling service especially considering it was empty and there was a lot of staff that we could see available at the back of the restaurant.

I ve deleted my review from when i use to go here regularly some time ago now and when it was 5 star from top to bottom. But Saturday was not a good experance and there's was so many things not right that I did nt even complain about most of it as I felt that was all I was doing..if the meal was nt for someone else I would of got up and left when the oysters came on mostly melted ice because they ov been sitting around waiting to be delivered to our table...all i can put it down to is they were to busy for them to handle..I doubt I will be back unless I go in daytime at some point...but i will not make this a place for special occasions anymore 😔

Visited this restaurant from London. This is a fantastic restaurant. Food is so great and customer service on another level. Served by a Guy called Josh and i have never seen a young guy so sincere and dedicated to his Job. .I am visiting again soon.

As always excellent food and service. They just know how to cook fish and there is nowhere near here that can compete, even the so called fine dining restaurants that charge a fortune for fish. Wine list is good too. And in these days of rising prices you will find the bill very digestible!

What a lovely find! Everything was lovely, great service and such a nice range of seafood. Early Friday evening (6pm) pre-theatre meal - superb service and staff. Ocean platter at £27.50 pp including sides was incredibly good value. Some nice Mediterranean/ Turkish spiced options for more adventurous, fresh (there’s a tank) lobster and oysters available plus gourmet burgers/traditional fish and chips. Open kitchen so could see hygiene standards high. We will be back!

Tasty food, good selection. Lovely ambience yet really good prices

Food was amazing and appropriately priced. Decor is nice and the staff are friendly. Milkshake are disappointing, wouldn't recommend them.

Went in for a birthday meal. When we got there, the table was decorated with birthday balloons and rose petals. Our waiter was extremely attentive without being overbearing and couldn't have done more to please. We ordered the Tempura Shrimp, Scallops and the moules mariniere to start. All we're superb! Then for mains, we shared an ocean platter and a couple of extra sides. There was more than enough food for the 3 of us and everything was utterly delicious! When dessert came, they had decorated the birthday persons plate and sang/played happy birthday. The whole meal came to just over £150 for the 3 of us including service charge for a 3 course meal which I think is extremely reasonable. Will definitely return and have already recommended to friends of ours

I want to write an honest review because it was quite disappointing. There were three tables there at the moment, and our food was cold. The chef arrived after we voiced our concerns about the meal. Our discomfort was much increased by his rudeness and condescension. Turning away from the problems, the chef went back to work in the kitchen. We immediately asked for the bill because the waitresses' attitude toward us had become more nasty after this. Our bill was subsequently updated with a service charge. We just paid and walked away, even though we didn't want to pay it or have any further arguments. Presumably, we won't be returning. 😡

Everything was excellent, the reason I have marked the atmosphere down is purely down to the fact it was midweek and not very busy however,I am sure evening would be much better. I highly recommend this establishment.

A very enjoyable place to have a nice meal

We'd been recommended to this delightful restaurant by other foodie friends. I must say we were slightly dubious given the location of the restaurant in a somewhat downtrodden part of Ipswich I seldom venture to. Whilst it's a little underwhelming from the outside, it is amazingly large and far better inside and run by a very efficient and friendly Turkish gentleman. I had a Gordons and tonic [9.00] and my partner 1 x 250ml glasses of Ephesus Sultaniye [8.95] - a Turkish white wine. We shared a delicious Calamari starter [8.95] We both chose a generous Seafood Casserole [45.00] with one portion of rice and one portion of mixed salad included. My partner had a Double Espresso [2.80] Sub Total [74.70] + 10% Service Charge [7.47] = Total: £82.17 All the staff were friendly, helpful and charming, with prompt service and the food was of a very high standard. We arrived before our 6pm reservation and shown to a lovely table we'd reserved by the window. The restaurant quickly began to fill up with diners soon afterwards and gather its essential to pre-book at the weekends and evenings. One table was celebrating a birthday with balloons and the table suitably decorated; I presume at no extra cost. The Manager was so kind and helpful to us and nothing was too much trouble. The facilities at the rear of the restaurant were also clean, large and impressive, which is a big plus in my book. I would strongly recommend you give this place a try and feel sure you won't be disappointed. There is plenty of disabled parking along Upper Brook Street and a large car park nearby. However, beware that disabled parking is only available until 4pm. We will certainly return again but for lunch next time.

The chips were amazing and a good portion size. Josh who served us was excellent. The price was decent and worth it for the food. We will be back! :)

Delicious food, huge serving, reasonably priced!

The food was excellent, and the staff were wonderful. It can be a little on the noisy side, but not terrible. I would suggest seating away from windows at front in the evening as Ipswich's finest walk past every 5 mins! Seafood casserole was excellent.

The fried calamari appetizer tasted good, struggled peeling the grilled king prawn. Ordered the fried haddoc & chips for the main dish. Appetizer portions can increase but the main dish portion was good. Loved the salad option as a side to the mains. Service was good.

We had our dinner here and again i am so delighted we have had a lovely dinner everything is beautiful starter, mains and drinks i am afraid we can’t try a dessert we are stuffed we had massive meal fresh and so delicious. To those Seafood lover highly recommended

It was by far the best lunch I have had so far as I can remember. The best value, freshness and the grilled calamari and king prawns are cooked perfectly. Tasted Devine. Didn’t even touch the sauce, table salt and pepper as it has been perfectly seasoned. Kudos to the chefs. The staffs are welcoming, accommodated our requests for a surprise cake and they added a sparkler on top of the candles that I provided and played a happy birthday music as background. I came here with my gf, the place was very clean and aesthetic and fresh to order we even picked out our lobster fresh from the tank and very lovely atmosphere, perfect for many occasions.

We went recently for my husband's birthday. We arrived at our table with balloons and petals scattered over it, which was a lovely touch. The staff were very professional and friendly, we treated ourselves to lobster, all the food was absolutely delicious! We could not fault anything and would highly recommend.

Several pieces of fish had a distinctly off taste, which was quite disappointing given the high expectations I had for a dish named the "Ocean Fish Platter." Great service, they made a real effort for my son's 10th bday celebration, he had balloons and a candle on his dessert. Food was gorgeous too. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because I thought it was very expensive for a meal for 4 in Ipswich. But otherwise can't fault it.

The meal was excellent. Every taste of the seafood demonstrated its freshness. I began with the traditional prawn cocktail, which had a gorgeous presentation and an exquisite flavor. I had the grilled sea bass for my main course. It was perfectly cooked—moisturizing, flaky, and full of flavor—and came with a delicious herb butter sauce that went really well with the fish. The side dishes were equally amazing and went well with the main meal, especially the seasonal greens and new potatoes with garlic butter.

The cuisine was, of course, the main attraction. The seafood was cooked to perfection and was exceptionally fresh. I began with the shrimp cocktail, which came with a sour cocktail sauce and was delivered properly chilled. I ordered the grilled salmon for my main course, and it was cooked to perfection—tender, aromatic, and enhanced by a mouthwatering lemon butter sauce. The sides were great sides, especially the steamed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes.

The food was delicious, with ample servings of fish and vegetarian meals that had wonderful flavors. Perfect service and atmosphere.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ocean Fish Platter, and I must say that it was a fantastic experience from beginning to end. The stylish nautical decor creates an appealing atmosphere and elegantly captures the essence of the sea.

We ate there at the weekend with friends whom live in Ipswich on Friday. Not much to look at from the out side, upmarket cafe feel when you walk in. Could not believe how reasonable the prices are, not to mention the fresh lobster in the water tanks. Our meal was delicious cooked to perfection the staff friendly. Good wine list. Will definitely visit again. Wife left her reading glasses there, phoned the next day they were found ready for collection.

Had a party of 4. Cannot fault the service from the moment we arrived until we left. The staff are always full of smiles and go out of their way. The food was OUTSTANDING, 2 of us had the grilled sea bass and both said it's the best we have eaten. One had king prawns and there was a lot on the plate, the other had cos and chips and loved it. We will definitely be going back and 100% recommend to anyone and everyone

We visited Oceansfish Platter in Ipswich last Saturday with our family of four, including our 10-year-old son. We found the prices quite steep for the portion sizes. We ordered a kids' meal and chicken nuggets as a side for our son, but they charged each item as a full meal, costing us £10 each, totaling £20 for a kids' meal, which is far more expensive than any other restaurant we've been to in the UK. I ordered a large cod and two regular cods, but there was no noticeable difference in size between the large and regular fish, despite the higher price for the large one. Additionally, we felt that the service was discriminatory and that we weren't treated well. I was really surprised that this restaurant has received such high ratings. I don't recommend this place if you're looking for the best fish and chips experience.

We were in Ipswich for Micky Flanagan show and went to this restaurant after reading reviews and omg the best seafood I have had in the UK. We were blown away by the attentive staff and amazing chefs. We had starters and a platter that was out of this world. We have already planned to return just to visit the restaurant from over hour and half away. Keep doing what ya doing. All the best.

Second day in a row eating here. First meal was so delicious we had to try again. Food excellent, ample portions. Very friendly service even when busy. Our two young boys loved the food amazing fish dishes, all round lovely meal. We will be back.

Very good food pleasant staff good service

Visited for a family evening celebration. Was certainly impressed with the choice and standard of the food. I had moules marinaire as a starting and a fish casserole for main. Both were excellent in taste and quantity. The other 3 guests also enjoyed their meals. The only improvement that could be made would be for a range of English bottled beers being available. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again hopefully with some good beers on the menu.

Excellent fish restaurant with very good and friendly service. We were in Ipswich for three nights and ate at Ocean Fish Platter on two evenings because we were not inspired by the other places to eat. There are pasta and other dishes available for non fish eaters. The vegetables served with the meal had a Turkish slant and were not the rather routine vegetables more usually served.

Food absolutely delicious. The lady serving today with dark curly hair was very helpful and knows how to do the job. 10/10

First time here today, for a Birthday lunch. I had heard good things, and it lived up to what I had been told. The welcome, the service, the food, and the surroundings were first class. Also, the extra touches for the "Birthday Boy" were lovely and very much appreciated. I would recommend to anyone, and I'm not even a big fish eater, so it must be good.
