Love this place. We came here in 2021 before moving to Whitstable, and since moving here in 2022 we come here a lot. Delicious food, great atmosphere, lovely service! My husband who always went for korma has got more adventurous since coming here, always a good thing!

Off the cuff visit, when we left it too late to book anywhere. Looked busy and full of atmosphere through the window… They found us a table and the food was top notch. If you’re bored of oysters in Whitstable, definitely try them.

Our favourite restaurant in Whitstable. The food is great and Aziz always makes us feel very welcome.

We picked up a take away for my husband’s birthday. The food was superb! Ready at exactly the time we asked for. Friendly gentlemanly staff who held the door open for me and insisted on carrying the takeout for me. The Tava Gosht Lahore is amazing, the North Indian special is a firm favourite. - definitely our go to place when only an Indian will do.

10/10 Delicious meal, we will definitely be back. 100% recommend!

This our local that we love to go to on Wednesday and Sunday evening for their amazing banquet! The food is delicious, they have a wide range of drinks, the staff are very friendly and accommodating and the price is very good! Would highly recommend to anyone who lives or visiting area!

Just moved to Whitstable and this was our first night out now all the boxes have been cleared. Fabulous food! My choice of signature dish with King Prawns was mouth watering. Really lovely staff too. I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for many years but I'm afraid not anymore. I always book and did so tonight but the restaurant gave away my table and as a result my evening has been ruined. This is a not acceptable in my eyes so they have lost a customer.

Booked a table on a Saturday evening - only about an hour before we went, there was good availability, but I was glad I booked as it filled up quickly. The food was excellent - we had the tandoori mixed grill, as well as onion bhajis, and saga paneer. Very good service. Would definitely recommend.

Went into this restaurant Friday 6th September 2024. Have to say the food and service was outstanding, the staff were excellent and very friendly. The manager and Aziz were great fun to have around they advised me on what foods were overly spicy, we will definitely be returning. What a lovely touch that the manager offered us a free little shot of drink once we paid the bill👏👏👏

Whitstable is known for the ‘Down From London’ brigade (it shouldn’t necessarily be a negative by the way) and the problem with London is that it’s full of amazing Indian restaurants so expectations are likely to be high. Star of Bengal is a very average small town curry house which, in my view, doesn’t reflect Whitstable’s foodie credentials. Food is bland with rather simple flavours. It won’t offend you but it won’t excite you either.

I have been lucky enough to eat in many restaurants up and down the country and this place ranks No:1 all day long. The food is consistent, I have never had a funny tummy the next day. It is well priced, and I would honestly recommend to anyone.

We ordered with a group of 16 people, the food was impeccable! Everyone was extremely happy with their meals, honestly the best Indian we have had! We’ve eaten at Star of Bengal for many years and will continue to in the future!

One little criticism, we had the Sunday special £15 a head but had £45 on top for 6 drinks which was 4 cobras I small white wine and lemonade and a coke. Bit extreme 😳

Went here last week in a large group which did impact the service but cant really help that as came in such a large group. I had dansak which ive not had for ages due to diffferent recipe in my regoin so avoid it. It was fab, fab fab..... Good prices.

Very very busy. At least two big tables of diners. We waited an hour for our food and one couple got their starters before us, but they arrived after us. The toilets are up stairs which was hard for me and they could do with a good clean. The drinks were quite cheap only £3.95 for a glass of house White

Not great. Ordered a balti and it what came was just a generic curry definitely not a balti. Maybe we're spoiled in Yorkshire but this was poor, I only gave it one star for the naan. BTW toilets were gross.

Would honestly just avoid this place until the restaurant sorts out its act. Greeted by a man with a face like I’d just insulted his mother. The service was strange to say the least. Food below par and greasy, naan a bit burnt, more onion and peppers than meat and not much sauce. Terrible guts the next day. Rice was a bit to greasy as well. Soft drinks were completely flat, even when we asked for a replacement. Toilets and back of house dated and decrepit so can only imagine the kitchen. Couldn’t wait to leave.

Have the Naga Prawn curry. Nice and spicy but tasty. Not chilly powder hot but fresh chilly hot.

Went in today at 1.45 for lunch & was informed you had finished serving even though you state 2.30 closing time. I have been using this restaurant for many years as I am a local & I have recommended you to several people over the years. The food is always good but I will not be coming back again as the two men I dealt with couldn't be bothered They didn't want to work. Shame as we were looking forward to an anniversary lunch

decide to give this place another try ,last time I ate here was about 2 years ago and it was bang average and ever since I gone else where for my curry dinners but chefs come and go and things can change so I gave star of Bengal another chance and I’m Glad I did it was near perfection ,, the tandoori chicken starter was succulent and wonderfully cooked and presented and my curry was fantastic ,, this was on a £15 5 course banquet night too ,, so incredible value ,, I’d now put star of Bengal in the number 1 Indian restaurant/take away in Whitstable spot ,, well done 👍🏽

Worst biriani I've ever tasted. Asked for different sauce, and all still bland and tasteless. They took £3 off my bill.

Nice food but… Horrible managers and Awful restaurant: I had to witness staff arguing at full volume during service. Had to wait a unbelievable 1 hour for my MAINS to arrive. Not surprised as I had low expectations at first. Was my first time visiting Whitstable and fortunately I will Never be coming back. Thanks

We turned up at the dreaded 8pm. They were full. . .but they found a nice table which we enjoyed and good conversation. I had the Lamb Shank. It was excellent, and very tender. Also plenty of it. Served by a very pleasant lad who had time to talk and be polite. Good service, meal arrived in 15 minutes. I could not finish it and ordered less than i normally would, and was still full. Excellent. My friend Tony enjoyed it too.

Family really enjoyed the meal we had here, staff friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Would recommend a visit if you like indian and are in Whitstable.

Every time we go there, they ask us to pay cash. Not too concerning (unless you’re the tax man), but uncomfortable when they get the hump when we say no. Asking us to go to the cash point is really desperate and leaves the overall “eating out” experience with a bad taste in the mouth - literally! The food ain’t that great either.

Just left the Wednesday and Sunday unbelievable value meal deal for£15 each lovely staff and quality and ample food . Excellent food and experience go now don't delay

Went Friday evening in March 2023, a bit nervous due to the reviews.. however the curry was delicious. Food was not greasy at all (an issue raised in some reviews), service was good and timely. We were not rushed and value was good. Restaurant was well decorated and much bigger than I was expecting. Would return with no hesitation, really glad we went here!

This one is not closed.. the one in canterbury road has.... great chicken biriani and lamb pakora... unhurried and pleasant staff.. bit quiet when i was there but weekends are busier..

We reached there by 1pm and the waiter told us it’s closed and chef is gone, so we were about to leave but this other guy(his brother apparently) came and told us we can sit and he will make us the item we asked for(biryani) This other customer with a dog came inside and the manager really talked disrespectfully and had an argument with him, and then he and his brother started shouting loudly inside the kitchen leaving us really uncomfortable so we had no choice just to leave there asap as it felt a bit dangerous as their fight was getting escalated. Would not recommend going there, and a strict no if you’re a dog owner.

The food was probably the worst indian meal I have ever had and believe me I've had some bad ones, I had a chefs special which looked like the left over scrappings of someone else's meal. Won't be recommending or using again.

Delicious food - really enjoyed the samosas and chicken curry! Tasty, flavorful and well made. The staff are also very friendly and kind and I had a lovely time chatting with them. A real gem!

Sat us under the stairs! Forgot to take our order!! Wine was off & gunk in bottom of wine glass. Removed our table cloth before we finished & literally slung the bill on the table before we asked for it. Very unprofessional!

I have been here several times and the food and service is normally excellent. However, today I was extremely disappointed. A friend travelled down from Medway and we were looking forward to a lunchtime curry (see opening times - open every day 12-2 30pm)....I even phoned them a week or so ago to make sure this was the case. We paid for parking, walked in and were told that they weren't open? I explained our position and asked why they advertised lunchtime opening hours.....I was then told the Chef was ill.....I bet he recovers before this evening.....went to Prezzo instead....highly recommended!

Really nice food cater for my specific needs well, great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Mahmood has done his best however a chilli chicken tika masala did raise an eyebrow when having it tandooried was preferred? If you like a lamb curry/stew I'd definitely recommend that you choose the Pathia. You'll never tell the difference. lastly the food is delivered in quick time. So quick that half of your curry is all over the bag rendering your fingers caked in some kind of guinoline yellow. I'd rather lick boot than order from here again.

What a total disappointment just ordered a takeaway it came was really looking forward to it then we tried it .Wrong rice delivered .bombay potatoes so salty had to throw them away . A prawn curry with only 3 small prawns in it onion barghis burnt .Never again will I order from this restraunt again .and b4 people jump on the bandwagon no point phoning them as all ubget is a credit note like last time 3 years ago .should of learnt my lesson then

Always busy, but luckily had a table free late on a bank holiday Sunday night. However - whilst plenty of people obviously enjoy here - I can't award more than 2 stars. Service mixed (some staff friendly, some less so). We only ordered two curries; the Veg Dhansak was way too sweet and distinct lack of lentils/ mostly potato, and the Prawn Ceylon was unrealistically fiery - and the same colour as the Dhansak. Popadoms & beer were fine.

The food is amazing and the service very good! Mahmoud is a welcoming waiter, who made sure that we always had what we wished for. A big recommend!

2nd time there always gd sevice & excellent food polite staff
