Lanna Thai in Canterbury

The restaurant is extremely cozy, the food is incredible, during the days we were in Canterbury we went every day. We love Tom Yum soup

We were very disappointed with Lanna overall. Not been there since it was the Chao Praya River. Sadly the food didn't make us feel that we were back in Thailand.

Friendly and accommodating. Good food!

We love it here and have done for many years. Authentic Thai food, delicious flavours and great service too. We will of course be back as this restaurant is a firm favourite with all the family.

Really enjoyed my meal here. It was near to closing when I ordered & still was made to feel welcome. Food tasted fresh & the person that served me was really clear on vegetarian/vegan options. I’d recommend this place 👍

Worst Thai food and service we have experienced the food had no taste. The mixed seafood v low on seafood and bland. Chicken in curry was over cooked, the ribs were the only good part of the meal. Mixed starter -suggest you don't order this over cooked idea no filling in certain items just fried crisp.

Nice people and friendly service. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. My green curry wasn't green, the sauce wasn't thick enough, some of the ingredients questionable (garden peas in a Thai curry?) and the flavour/spicing inauthentic. In addition, the portion wasn't very generous. I have visted Thailand and what I ate at this restaurant wasn't a Thai green curry.

Lovely friendly service from the staff and made to feel very welcome. Food was served promptly and nothing was too much trouble. Food wise it was ok. Some dishes were better than others but overall I've had better Thai food in England. Location is just a short stroll across the busy road from the main tourist area. Price wise, about right.

food was meh, not the best thai food ive had. it could be better. food was a bit blend. pad thai has no flavour. vegetables are bitter. im asian so ive tried this kind of vegetables before and they shouldn’t taste bitter. but waiters told us this is how they taste like. service was good tho, they did offer to exchange it. our mood was ruined after certain communiations and this was my partner’s birthday dinner. ive tried so many thai restaurants in the uk and this was of the not very good ones. i hope they can improve.

Wonderful food!! It was all absolutely delicious. Very impressed. We collected our food order from Lanna Thai and it was ready when we arrived, quick service from phone call to collection. The restaurant looked really lovely too so we will definitely come back for a evening meal to try all the other dishes. Great food so many dishes to choose from They also do set meals EG for 4.people Service was great and staff are very helpul and polite. Try their food you will not be disappointed

Disappointing would NOT recommend Went here in October my parents have been visiting this restaurant for the last 20 years it’s always been fantastic but we haven’t been for about 2 years I called for collection it was a 40 minute wait which I did not mind I got there 45 mins later. I waited another 40 minutes for the food to be given to me (I think they forgot about my order) the lady was really apologetic and gave me a free drink and Thai crackers I still didn’t mind to much as love Thai food but was wondering what was going on. it’s been a long time since we had it last from this particular restaurant about 2 years and was extremely disappointing no taste! cardboard would of tasted better it was like eating air no flavour I would never go back to Thai restaurant after speaking to other friend who tried 6 months previously without my knowledge until I mentioned what a disappointment this restaurant has become and they said the same no flavour was vulgar and would not return we have recently tried Bangkok house few streets down it was amazing so I would highly recommend Bangkok AVOID Lena thia

Great place for Thai food, the service is amazing as well as the food. Would recommend the papaya salad, green thai curry and beef with black bean sauce!

Tasty tai dishes with good service

We got a take away from Lanna this evening as we were walking past and the reviews were very good. Let me start by saying that the staffs we encountered were very polite and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Not sure who is reviewing this place but our experience was not so positive. We ordered a few dishes and were very disappointed at the tiny portions. In addition the amount of meat in the already small portions was minuscule. While I definitely don’t want disgusting cheap meat to bulk out a dish, at the prices I anna is charging they can afford to put more quality meat into their dishes. Flavours weren’t bad but should be punchier. Green curry was more like soup, rendang was not like any I’ve ever eaten, and I do know what rendang should taste like. So, all in all, my feeling is that the team here could do better but chose not to because they can make just as much money without trying.

I’ve been having both takeaways and eating in here for years. Such lovely food, and excellent service. We go for Thaipas - as in Thai tapas - we just order a load of starters and have a lovely smorgasbord of Thai food 🍚👍🏻

This place is quite good although it might seem a little dated to some. My partner and I went for the set lunch which was good value and quite tasty. It's a decent enough place if you're stuck for somewhere to go.

Had a pad Thai and another dish (forgot) but both were yummy and the service was good and the prices were reasonable!

We were accepted as last minute walkin. Great ambience. The Pad Thai was pretty much best we recall eating. Mixed seafood had great sauce that sort of tasted beefy but also excellent. .The Tom Yum Goong was very good but I think the most expensive I've ever had for such a small bowl & 4 prawns for over £7... if it wasn't so good I'd feel ripped.

I would really recommend this restaurant. Great food, very reasonably priced, very good service and the owner is very nice. I have always had a very enjoyable time there and have been going there for years. Friends all same the same.

Food was excellent but beer at nearly £9 per bottle I thought was expensive

Terrible test and quantity..order Pad kra prow squid but the food was not look and like a Thai. The test was so salty and few meat but a lots of green pepper and onions..Very disappointed..

The service was good but the food was mediocre. Pad Thai was a bit flavourless. Green curry was a bit too watery but flavour was good. I got rice with my curry and it was a good size but it was £4.10! i have only ever paid around £2-3 for a plain bowl of rice in London. So i was definitely shocked.

I go here a lot, so much so that the owner knows what we order and even recognises my voice on the phone. We always get a warm welcome and the service is always with a lovely smile. What can I say about the food, well it's always top standard. We've never had a bad dish and we wouldn't go to any other Thai restaurant.

It deserves all the starts! The tables have plenty of space in between, decoration and dinner service is very nice, all members of staff are absolutely lovely and so polite and welcoming, and then you have the food. Oh, the food. It is the most wholesome, fresh, flavour bomb deliciousness!!!! I tried the green and red chicken curry with coconut rice and never wanted it to end. I was worried about the level of spice for the curry as the menu says “medium hot”, but they said I could choose how spicy I wanted the dish. Absolute perfection! Whenever in Canterbury, I will make sure I stop there for a wonderful meal.

Love the decor, has a real established feel. The food is fresh and tasty and there is plenty of it. The ladies that served our food were professional.

Not Happy with tum yum mince pork was not cook , and jasmine rice and egg fried rice was very old and smells bad.not really happy about it.staff is not asking anything about food! only want to take an order!! this is my feedback. No we won't go back there again 😞

Nice Thai restaurant and a great change of pace from the usual restaurants around Canterbury. The food is tasty, the staff is friendly, device is good, and they're accomodating with requests. I requested sugar free vegan meal and they were able to accommodate me. There's vegan and vegetarian options.

Lovely food and lovely welcoming service. I took my 10 year old son for his first experience of a Thai restaurant and they were very good to ensure that they understood his taste for spice - one of those extra little touches that made this stand out. My vegetarian daughter was pleased to see so much choice (and not just the usual tofu and bean curd options) and as a first year student at Canterbury Uni vowed to make regular visits to Lanna Thai (especially as there is a student discount night). Myself and my other daughter (we eat anything) loved the taste of everything too!

Great food! We ordered some authentic Thai noodle dishes for takeaway and we weren’t disappointed. The flavours were excellent, and we didn’t have to wait long at all for it to be ready. The service was outstanding and very friendly. Would highly recommend, and have already gone back for another order today. Our new go to!

Really disappointed with our order. We ordered a few things and they were all less than what expected. The Pad Thai was really bland and tasteless. It lacked any sauce, just looked and tasted like boiled noodles. The Panang curry arrived half empty as you can see on the images. The BBQ ribs were just dry. The only good thing I can say is that the Pad Thai portions were big. I am really disappointed as based on the reviews we thought it was a good quality 😔

Let me stress that there isn't any problem with Lanna it's just a little different to Thai restaurants closer to home. Although the food was lovely and fresh and perfectly cooked it lacked flavour. The sauces with the dishes are very subtle to the point that they are not what I consider to be Thai dishes.

We went there for a dinner Been waiting 50 minutes for the starters, really small portion comparing the price and this is not all we waited nearly an hour to get the main after asked several time to the waters for that, when the main arrived I released that on my mix veg noodles was not noodles at all so complained again to the waitress and I had to wait another 15 minutes for sorting that, nothing else to expect then gravy sauce with vegetables. After all this mistakes and an unacceptable waiting time they even didn't offer to us a penny of discount! Not recommended

Oh dear, impossible even trying to place an order over the phone, a real struggle to give phone number and address. After waiting 50 minutes we called to check all was well only to get clueless staff on the phone now telling us we live far away!!!! We persevered and agreed to wait a further 40 minutes....we'll see!!! So, to our relief our food arrived 30 minutes later. Plenty of flavour and variety for a set menu for 2.

Expensive for what you get and certainly had better . Interior is dated and smells of damp. Staff friendly.

Recientemente probé Lanna Thai después de desear algo de auténtica comida tailandesa. Decidimos probarlo y no nos decepcionó. Los platos estaban muy bien cocinados y las porciones estaban bien. A menudo ves en las comidas para llevar cuando pides platos de carne que obtienes rodajas miserables y no muchas, ¡generalmente platos de pato! Pero Lanna Thai ofreció porciones decentes de carne y suficiente dentro del plato. Definitivamente satisfizo mi antojo y definitivamente volveremos. ¡No puedo creer las malas críticas que acabo de ver aquí! ¡Volveremos pronto, seguro!

Worst ever !!!! Thai food I’ve encountered absolutely disgusting waitress wasn’t interested a when discussed with her whatsoever . On the entrance said card payments accepted But insisted on being paid in cash . Restaurant is dated and I do not recommend this to anybody

Food was substandard fish was salty and nowhere near authentic in any way shape or form Did not eat any of the fish pointed out to the waitress and she apologized but still was charged There is a lot better restaurants in the area

They dish out good grub here, with big helpings of Thai charm. The takeaway menu is extensive, reasonably priced if you go for the noodles ( just over a fiver) and filling. Some of our party said it wasn't spicy enough but I'm sure the nice Thai ladies would put some kick into your dish if you asked. They had a twinkle in their eyes.

In a city full of restaurants, Lanna Thai is a hidden gem. Tucked away in Dover Street, Lanna serves authentic Thai food in a family friendly environment, prices good, welcome warm.

The food is amazing and the service is excellent too. I have been going to Lanna Thai for 10 years now, and it has never failed me.

Anoche aparecimos, planeando comprar comida para llevar. Hemos comido aquí antes y siempre me ha gustado la comida. Después del encierro, no me sentía cómodo al volver a "comer" en los restaurantes. Sin embargo, cuando fuimos a buscar comida para llevar, vimos lo cuidadosos que estaban siendo los empleados. Mesas separadas, gel de manos, llevaban viseras completas y estaban parados a una buena distancia. Por lo tanto, decidimos comer en casa y no nos decepcionó. El equipo fue amable, servicial y siguió las nuevas medidas. La comida también estaba buena. Definitivamente regresaría. ¡Muchas gracias por volver a cenar en un restaurante!

El restaurante es pequeño e íntimo con un personal acogedor y los propietarios son tailandeses, siempre, habiendo estado en Tailandia durante las vacaciones en numerosas ocasiones, hemos encontrado los sabores verdaderamente auténticos. Encontramos que el menú es extenso y el tamaño de las porciones es ideal para nuestras necesidades y sin duda recomendaríamos el Lanna Thai a cualquiera que busque disfrutar de una buena comida tailandesa. We were very disappointed with the food. There was nothing distinctive about it......could have been Chinese with a bit more ginger added. Have had much better.

Estuve allí para almorzar. Parece que reutilizan las mismas decoraciones para el plato, el mío tenía 2 picaduras en la 'flor'. Le dije a la camarera y su reacción fue "perdón por eso" y me fui.La comida era asquerosa. No vayas a este restaurante ya que te decepcionará. Puedo cocinar en casa mejor comida que las que sirven.

Lovely food go there every week

Esta fue la peor comida tailandesa que recuerdo haber tenido.Nada estaba fresco. Pedimos dos entrantes y dos minutos después están de vuelta con ellos.Este fue un sábado por la noche. ¡Seguramente podrían cocinar alimentos frescos en la noche más ocupada de la semana!Las camareras no pueden volver a llenar su vaso lo suficientemente rápido de la botella en la mesa y tan pronto como esté vacío, quieren saber si pueden traerle otro.Los baños son asquerosos y la decoración del restaurante parece ser el primer intento de pintura de un adolescente.No iremos aquí nunca más.Es difícil entender cómo restaurantes como este se mantienen en el negocio.
