This place is a hidden little gem tucked away in the cemetery grounds on mersea road (located near to the exit). The staff are always welcoming and happy to see you. (Many are volunteering so makes it that even more special). I have attended two wakes here and both times was so impressed. I also have had afternoon tea which was amazing and sometimes pop in for a lovely coffee and slice of cake. Can’t recommend this place enough.

We held a wake at the Starlight Chapel on May 3 for my late mother. What a great find this was for the occasion. All our family and friends loved the setting and the buffet food tasted as good as it looked. They even provide takeaway containers for guests who had longer distances to travel. Well done Michelle, Karen and the staff for your care and attention.

We held the wake for my Mother at Starlights in June, a lovely sunny day, and a beautiful building to hold this event. The staff are lovely, friendly, and helpful. Couldn't have wanted for more, the food was excellent and they cater to all dietary needs too. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone.

I recently lost my best friend and decided to hold her wake at this little tearooms in the grounds of Colchester /cemetery. What a lovely place, staff absolutely fantastic, cheerful, friendly & compassionate. Food was fabulous & great value from the dainty little sandwiches to the fresh clotted cream & jam scones. Was a lovely ending to what had been a sad day. Well done to all the staff, all covid restrictions were upheld.

We attended a wake at the tea room yesterday. I'm embarrassed to say that despite living a few minutes walk away , I had never been here before. When I heard the food at the wake would be a buffet, my heart sank and I prepared myself to just make do with a cup of tea. Gluten free and buffets are never a good combination. I needn't have worried, my meal was severed separately in a covered container. But the thing that really stood out was the selection, home made sausage rolls and cheese puffs, tiny sandwiches and all finished beautifully with a watercress garnish and cucumber hearts . It was impressive. The dessert was three small slices of cake, chocolate , lemon and coffee. All very nice, I think they may have been shop bought but thats fine it's not always viable to bake separate cakes for one person. Everyone else was pleased with the regular buffet selection. After lockdown etc this was my first time eating out in 15 months and despite the sad occasion it was a pleasure to visit the tea room and I will be back again.

My daughter took me for afternoon tea here with her three daughters , all I can say it was great, lovely sandwiches, great selection of small cakes, and lovely fresh scones. The youngest was only 5 and they made a great selection for her after discussing maybe some small biscuits for her, they duly arrives with it all. I have dairy free diet and they completed all requests for this,we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

I live far away from Colchester, but wanted to hold a wake somewhere close to the crematorium. I read about the tearoom online and the owner was so very helpful and understanding. Within the grounds of the crematorium and graveyard we found it relatively easily (they are not allowed much signage). More people arrived than I had anticipated and the staff were totally accommodating and quietly attentive. The building itself is a great conversation piece with positive quotes hung around. We had lots of tea and cake long chats and the owners were very kind. All is all it was perfect for what we wanted.

Starlight Tearoom is in an old de-consecrated chapel within the grounds of Colchester Crematorium. As such it was ideally situated for the wake following my mother’s funeral. We had tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes. Everything was well presented and of high quality. The ladies who run the tearoom are very supportive and friendly. They certainly made what could have been a difficult occasion run very smoothly. Recommended.

Star Light hosted a Wake for my son-in-law recently and Michelle and Jacqui went above and beyond our expectation s. We had a guesstimate at how many people we were expecting but it turned out to be far more than that. Nevertheless, they coped admirably (and I must mention their volunteer helpers who were working away like trojans in the background). Cups of tea kept on coming and the food we had ordered was superb. The sandwiches were cut into small shapes, ideal when trying to speak to people. The home-made coffee cake, carrot cake and Victoria sponge would I am sure rival any of Mary Berry's. Lots of other assortments, mini eclair, sausage rolls, fruit/cheese/pickles on sticks, crisps. There was something for everyone. Most of all was the caring and loving attitude of Michelle and Jacqui which made a very sad day more bearable. Thank you from all the family. They are also open during the week, check times but they close at 2pm. Have a look on their website for the snacks available. Ideal if you are visiting your loved-one's grave.

I saw Coffee Crate on trip advisor and decided to take a drive and try out. good free parking. Friendly reception at the counter with all the lovely bakery coffee smells of the hard work going on in the kitchen out the back. We were seated in good time (one waitress) she was already pinging backwards and forwards with tickets and plates. We were taken next door where we had a choice of two tables as they were nearly full, nice atmosphere, cosy, seats were okay for the duration, tables, cutlery, glasses, cups were clean and shiny. The seating area is dog friendly, which is great for me as I love doggies and a beautiful flower Wall and matching theme looks modern. Food come out in good time presentation as expected was quite big portions Fresh bouncy bread, crisp salad and tasty crisps. Coffee was good frothy cappo and cold drink as expected, we were left feeling full and had a lovely time and felt the price was very reasonable. Overall a lovely little gem don't change! we will be back.
