At Porto's Café, my friend and I just ordered coffee so we can't comment about the food. Though since the coffee was very good I would think any food from here would be delicious! 😋☕ It has a small seating area outside and 2 separate areas inside giving a quaint and cosy feel, with guitars and other instruments on display. I liked it very much and would definitely visit this place again next time I'm in Colchester! 👌😉

a great little coffee shop that's a perfect place to relax if you get the chance. the staff there is allways great. really it's the last chilled out coffee shop in colchester IMPORTANT NOTES it's cash only but there's a barcleys next door so that probably won't be an issue for you. the inside of the shop isn't accessible

This a high quality place for good quality coffee. The place is tiny and has pretty much just coffee but it is worth it. Around the area nothing else seems up to par.

A great little coffe shop serving the best coffee in town. Porto always gives you a good welcome. There are a few seats outside. Great atmosphere and good music. Ask Porto to play you a tune on his guitar. Great to see a small independant doing so well.

Nice little coffee stop in the pedestrianised area of Colchester. No nearby parking or on street parking. Access for delivery vehicles only etc. Small place with limited indoor and outdoor seating. However you have to be fortunate to find a seat due to the ‘resident’ customers. The outdoor seats are DEFINITELY the smoking zone! The coffee is good, but they spend sooooo long trying to get the foam ‘art’ right that the coffee is cool by the time you get it. Personally I like a hot drink and am not bothered about the looks which last until the first sip. Not cheap, probably less value than Costa as the cups are smaller etc. But sometimes its worth supporting small local businesses.

Always friendly, fast service, exceptional coffees and a barista playing superb acoustic guitar over the counter. What more do you want !!!

I almost dont know how to review Portos. I've never felt quite so at home at a coffee shop before, Porto promotes an aura of positivity quite unline that of anyone else I have ever met. The coffee is second to NONE in colchester and coupled with a brilliant staff and homey atmosphere... I'll never go anywhere again

Don't go to the big chains. I found the coffee here far superior to Nero, Starbucks and Costa. The proprietor clearly cares about good coffee! Highly recommended.

I have worked in the Coffee Industry for 5 years, I have hand roasted 6 blends of single origin coffee in the market, I am SCA qualified as a barista, I urge more people to visit this gem of a coffee shop. The baristas are the best in Colchester, the coffee quality is the highest standard, I have judged barista competitions three times at a professional level and I can advise anyone that these are medal-winning baristas. unfortunately, it lacks space but if you like a quiet, cosy place to enjoy the best coffee for 100 miles then go here, ask for a flat white, enjoy the experience of skilled baristas create the latte art you see in Starbucks/Costa/Neros pictures but never actually deliver in store.

It is the best coffee in town by far. We drove from Chelmsford to here just to grab a coffee. We were greeted straight away and just ordered two drinks to have down the back of this narrow spot. The guy behind the machine seemed to know various customers coming in and out which was so lovely to see. Heads up, like someone else mentioned, blink and you'll miss it

A delightful find to grab a coffee and have a chat with a friend or to read the papers. This is counter service with both indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff made excellent coffee. MONTY'S TOP TIPS 1. Caramel chocolate shortcake works well with a latte. 2. This is a small venue so best in pairs or alone. Most seating is at tables for two.

This is the best coffee in town. And it's a blink and you'll miss it kinda of place. Tucked away between another couple of cafes, this is the place to go for a genuine cup of coffee. The guy who runs it is lovely and friendly too and loves what he does. Can't praise it enough.

I always get the flat white: delicious rich espresso with perfectly foamed milk. There is something the barista does so that the milk it is smooth and creamy but also dense on top, instead of fluffy with big airpockets like most other places. The atmosphere is also great, quiet and non-corporate and I love sitting under the rooftop window.

My sister bought me here as I've just come back from New Zealand and thought no one here knew how to make a cappuccino. It did not disappoint. Lovely smooth milk, strong coffee but not burnt and a good amount of chocolate. The atmosphere in here is also good and the guy who served us was lovely, and even helped us in with a pram. Would definitely recommend

Sinceramente el mejor café que he probado nunca en Inglaterra. Es muy sencillo y normalmente tienen un par de azúcares en mi café, pero no necesito ninguna en este lugar. Es fantástico! Me encanta el hecho de que el café es tan minúsculo bc que hemos diseñado muy bien y si tienes la suerte de conseguir un asiento en allí es realmente tranquilo y no hacía mucho ruido como la cadena de cafeterías en Colchy.

Como cliente durante un año puedo confirmar que el estándar es coherente y este sigue siendo el mejor café de la ciudad. Porto es un barista y su servicio es inigualable siempre tiene una sonrisa para sus clientes. Este es el único lugar en el que beber café en la ciudad, no tengo ni idea de cómo se hace su café tan delicioso sabor. El interior es un excelente aspecto, uso moderno y acogedor y confortable de un espacio pequeño. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente. Espléndido lugar.

Had a flat white In this shop a while back. The barista seems very passionate about his coffee as he took his time to create a great cup of coffee with an artistic design using the silky foam. Best coffee I've had in a long time!

Authentic cafe. Tiny! Simple light snack menu well done. Nice people. And, at last, a proper latte. There is now something for me to look forward to in Colchester. You know it's gonna be good when you walk in the door and smell that fresh coffee. Xxx

Baristas is their name and coffee is most definitely their game...best cup of coffee in Colchester. The set-up is very rustic, more pop-up/street vendor than sit-in comfort, but that's all part of the charm. They don't do decaf, but the coffee is so smooth and creamy I didn't need the one sugar I usually have...or get the caffeine jitters that come with the junk that must be in the chain cups of coffee!

Salt beef. Proper salt beef cut off a big warm slab of salt beef with pickles.There is nice coffee and they are very dog friendly.Also did I mention salt beef?

I am a coffee snob and it was great to find this place. I would be surprised if you will find better coffee in this part of Essex. The owner is serious about coffee and knows his stuff. The flat white was excellent- just a lovely cup of coffee. There did not seem to be much choce of cakes but we had a chocolate brownie which was absolutely amazing. This place is very small and probably not comfortable enough to sit for too long. There is a loo but you have to go through the kitchen to get to it. If you love coffee come here - if you want comfort maybe not.

#poor food unfortunately. Told the chef wasn't in but the order was not a problem. When it came out it was missing ingredients from the plate that were on the menu and it was very slap dash. Service not brilliant either. Shame, Coffee was nice though.

Certainly the best coffee shop in central Colchester. There are only 2 more places with similar quality. Harris and Hoole in Highwoods and Mimosa restaurant. Nothing to complain about, visit highly recommended.

Martin and Porto have made me feel welcome at their little shop since it opened. It's the best coffee in Colchester by a country mile. With their new kitchen, they've branched out into lunches. Martin is happy to go 'off menu' to make me something for lunch. They also serve great cakes, and in summer make a refreshing melon, apple and ginger juice. Go in for a coffee and a chat. You'll be glad you did.

I call into this coffee shop whenever I am in Town, Martin, Porto and Jill have established a wonderful little oasis of calm in the town. The range of refreshments and food is excellent.Very customer centred approach by everyone. If you just want refreshment and people watch, this is for you. A range of daily papers to read if that is your fancy.There is a genuine warmth from all the regulars, good humoured banter and conversation. Independent coffee shop which strives to be the best in Colchester and is achieving it. Coffee is consistently excellent and their albeit small menu is tasty and excellent value for money.

If you desire coffee that tantalizes your taste buds, this is the place to go. They use a blend from 3 different South American countries, and satisfaction is guaranteed. The baristas know all there is to know about beans and blends and I would go so far as to say that their style of preparation is artistic. When I'm in town I won't get coffee from anywhere else, and the food they serve also hits the perfect spot. Warm and friendly service, you can't go wrong here.

Salt Beef Sandwiches. SALT BEEF SANDWICHES ! Have not indulged in this traditional treat for just too many years. More's the pity my wife and I were just passing through. On the other hand, my waist-line would probably say this is a good thing. Unlike other contributors, we have yet to sample the coffee, but we can look forward to that experience next time........to wash down another highly delectable SALT BEEF SANDWICH. Just like I remember.......... Tasty, super brown bread, crimson-coloured meat, delicious mustard and pickle. Great value. What a way to spend your lunch break or re-fuel while you're shopping. These nice people should open a chain.

In a high street full of mainstream brands it was refreshing to see a unique business offering a top quality product at reasonable prices. I must say it was one of the best coffee's I have ever tasted and defiantly will become a regular visitor. Really can't praise the owner enough thankyou.

Proper coffee - hand made by a barrista who clearly knows what he's doing - rather than just putting a cup under an expensive machine and just pushing a button. Quirky decor add to the atmosphere. Great spot for people watching or rain dodging.

Situated next to another coffee shop, with a road not short of a place to buy your coffee, you can easily overlook this place, but today, am glad I gave it a try. You walk in and feel like you are abroad, a mix between some hip American joint, and a European feel. I can't speak for the food, but the coffee was the nicest I have tasted in a long time, if ever. Service was great, a really nice friendly vibe in there. Will def go back to try different delights- the juice of the day looked particularly inviting.

Wow what can I say! Whilst visiting friends and family in Colchester, I was recommended Culver Street Baristas for a proper coffee. Coming from London, I have had my fair few shares of third wave coffee, I instantly fell in love with the London-esque exposed brick wall and outdoor seating.The baristas technical ability was on par with some of the best coffee shops in London, they were able to inform me of everything a coffee geek like me was looking for; they knew where the bean had come from, let me try their own blend and the latte art was perfect! As for the taste, I could not fault it at all.My wife had a salt beef sandwich which she said reminded her of growing up in the east end of London and claims that she has never had proper salt beef outside of London! I personally do not eat salt beef but the smell of it had my stomach rumbling, so I opted for the 'fully loaded burger', not only was the beef locally sourced but my god it was delicious!Great service, great coffee and great food. I will make sure I visit you guys every time I come to Colchester!Many thanks once again. John x
