Star East Express in Wiltshire

We ordered on Sunday evening via the website and ended up very disappointed. The website advised 45-60 minutes for delivery but the food arrived 1 hour 30 minutes later. I could have forgiven the delay if the food was good but it wasn’t. Soggy pancake rolls and prawn balls, dry and salty duck and pork, everything was bland and overcooked. Most of it ended up not eaten. A treat that cost £60 ended up being an expensive waste!

Each time I’ve ordered food has been hot and tasty and arrived on time - on the website delivery time is advised longer for Friday and Saturdays so it’s to be expected. Favourites are char siu chow mein, salt & pepper chips, chicken curry, beef in black been sauce and sweet and sour Hong Kong style chicken :)

Well I got to say worst experience I've ever had with a Chinese takeaway last day on our holiday decided to order a Chinese and the chicken balls weren't cooked properly and the food was very bland phoned the woman and the Chinese woman was shouting at my wife down the phone and didn't wanna do anything about it shocking stay away!!

I have at least 3 takeaways a month from Star East and slowly going through the menu. Staff is really friendly and the food always fantastic. Thank you 😀 Highly recommend salt & pepper chicken wings , BBQ ribs and special fried rice, Thai Red prawn 🍛

Our deliver food was inedible. Prawn toast and chicken satay overcooked in the deep fryer. Half duck was very salty and tough- not freshly pulled off the bone. We will bin most of this order. Only good thing was quick delivery. Shall not use you again.

inedible,worst chinese meal i have ever had, was looking forward to it and watchimg the football,two mouthfulls in i binned it , overcooked {almost like it had been cooked twice} chicken hard as bullets , prawns the sameII I will not be returning, a crime against other restaurants, only used this one for its proximity to Tescos, put me off chinese food for a while disgusting should be closed if this is there usual fare

The Star East Express is by far the best Asian takeaway that we have ever had. They have a good variety on the menu, delicious, piping hot food at reasonable prices. The takeaway is always ready when they say it will be.They are certainly not mean with the portions. Highly recommended.

Had a threatening fortune cookie, overcooked duck, poorly tasting mushroom omlette. The worst part was this fortune cookie saying ‘be careful to cross the streets’ threatening and upsetting.

The food is amazing and they are aware of allergens. I I'm not gluten free and never have a problem with the food, they are always, so accommodating and the food is, super delicious! The best in Westbury by far!

Here on holiday - the food was rubbish. Egg fired rice without the egg and not really fried and the crispy fried chilli beef was awful and even the chips were poor. I never leave a food review…. but this really wasn’t good.

Ordered Chicken Curry and egg fried rice, bland, no flavour and ordered pot of curry sauce to go with chips again absolutley no flavour and as thin as water. Will not be ordering again!

Really unimpressed with our delivery tonight.. normally so good so I decided to try something different.. I ordered the Thai noodles with chicken, shrimp, lime and coriander.. this was not what I got! Noodles with sweet and sour sauce.. no coriander or lime in sight! Squid was ok.. husbands chilli beef had no heat. Just really disappointed with a restaurant that’s never failed us yet! Questioning whether to return!

My husband picked up food from here for the first time and ow my god it was greasy flavourless and cold! I can certainly say we will not be coming back!!! I’d rather starve… salt and chilli ribs spring rolls prawn toast and couple of other bits, but could Of been anything

We were trying different takeaways whilst on holiday. The food was nice, the Chinese curry was very nice along with the black bean. We were not that keen on the special chow main as there was a lot of large veg in it, but apart from that it was very nice and would return.

I had to throw the chicken balls in the bin, the worst I ever had … wrong food from the order had prawns in the meal , sister can’t have prawns .. never again from here

Ordered online for delivery, they called within minutes to double check our address. Food delivered in around 50 minutes to a village 3 miles away. Hot and felt freshly made. Will use again

Ordered a collection, food was on time however it was all quite tasteless, crispy chilli beef had no chilli in it tasted more like pork scratching, crispy chicken was very sugary, such a shame as it looked good and good sized portions, also got fortune cookies which I hadn’t seen in a while, it’s the only Chinese open on a bank holiday, probably wouldn’t order again unless it was a bank holiday and fancied Chinese.

This place should be shut down unfit all round. Waited over a hour and half for the food rang twice and told it was on its way then told it was being cooked. Food finally turned up. Standard of food was unbelievable. Chicken was rock solid and unable to cut through. Ribs half no meat on and were bland and tastelessly dry. Duck was transparent it was so dry over cooked you couldn't even chew it. Rang the restraunt and took food back up. The lady was so rude shouting in Chinese for the poor girl to translate. She was picking at the food we took back. I picked up a bit of chicken and tried to squeeze it to show her how hard it was , she took it out my had and ate it chewing it then took it out her mouth to shout then returning it to eat. The whole experience was shocking never have I experienced anything customer service like this along with shock of hygiene .

Unfortunately this is not a good takeaway. Last 2 times I’ve tried it I’ve had a bad experience. Food either being undercooked or completely wrong. The prices are decent but for the food I wouldn’t go there.

Diabolical service. You order online and you are pushed to the back of the order queue over those that turn up at the shop. We ordered for opening and an hour and a half later still waiting. This is a time when some cannot leave their homes and they are made to wait when people turn up and get their food in 15-20 mins!!! You cannot even call to see where your food is…!!! Ended up paying out more money to get food in for kids who were hungry and couldn’t wait any longer. Yes I should have cooked, but once a month you need a break!

Ordered at 17.20 and was told it would be an hour and an hour and 10 minutes later we rang again and was told they was waiting for a driver and it would be another 15 minutes , but 25 minutes later it arrived cold apart from the sweet and sour sauce which was lukewarm. Tried ringing and the line was busy or the answering machine but it was full, but half an hour later we got though,, the young lady was very apologetic and asked us to hang on while she went to speak to the boss and we could hear the young lady and the boss started screaming in Chinese at her, the young lady came back saying that it wouldn’t of been cold and then I replied it was and I wasn’t reheating it , so she went back again and the screaming started again. We waited for the half hour and then though it in the bin . They then asked for the food back when we explained that the food was in the bin more screaming. But no they wouldn’t do anything but by this time I was more upset at the boss’s behaviour, it was disgusting she seriously needs business management training. The young lady couldn’t of been more apologetic and helpful, we will not be ordering again from them.

Throughout lock down we have enjoyed our Saturday night takeaway, occasionally we have had an Indian but always go back to a Chinese from Star East. Although it may come late sometimes the quality has always been top notch. Thanks to all your team through these funny times 🙏👍👏🤗

Rang at 1830. Placed order. Told be 1 hour at 1945 food still not arrived so called, told that there driver is elsewhere and my order hadn't even left the takeout yet. 2015 another call, food is just about to leave. 2030 food fi ally arrives. When yoy pay for a service you expect it to be done properly. Will never order from here again. Shocking.

My experiance at this so called chinese place was next level disgusting, I am an etiquette man who loves food, and this place was horrid. The reception was on her phone when i came in and i had to wait for her to stop texting before i got my food, there was moths flying around my food and i could see the cat moltin on the floor. My food was cold and bland, the chips were burnt and the chicken chow mein had next to none chicken in it... disgraeful im never returning.

Our order was late. It was incorrect and when we phoned to explain the owner was so rude. I felt sorry for the young girl who works on the phones to hear such poor management. I won’t be going here again. I’d rather collect from another Chinese out of town than have anything delivered from them. Avoid

This is the worse takeaway I have had food from We called twice after 40 and 50 mins to be told only one driver on to deliver.after an hour the phones weren't answered. I hour and 25 minutes from ordering the food arrived with a drunken rude aggressive driver.when I told him that he was so late that I didn't need to pay under the just eat rules he verbally abused me. The owner/manager was shouting aggressively at the delivery driver, spilling out into the customer area. If I hadn't already paid, I'd have left. Got home to find 1 item I'd been charged for wasn't in the bag.

Used Star East since it opened but never again....... Who knows what's different, but they clearly don't care. After an absolute nightmare in the first place just placing the order and eventually being told it would be an hour. After an hour and a half the phone rings to say that one of the items isn't available. They've gone down hill. They don't care. And there's plenty of others to choose from. Had to repeat the order numerous times before they got it, tried to pay over the phone which was painful and had to repeat 3 times after they called ms back because I hung up, told me an hour for delivery, and an hour and a half later they rang to say they didn't have something I'd ordered, but still no food. It doesn't really matter whether the food is good or bad, the service is so bad I don't want to ever use them again.

First time we had ever used this restaurant. We ordered a takeaway using Just Eat at 18.57, and it stayed 45-60 minutes for delivery at a cost of £2 When confirmation email arrived it said food would be delivered at 20.10 so already later than previously stated. Shortly after placing our order we received a call from the restaurant and the lady explained they didn’t now do the tempura vegetables that we’d ordered so asked did we want a refund or to order something else. I said i’ll just check if you could hold a min, whilst relaying this to my husband I didn’t even get to say would you like something else instead, and the rude lady on the phone said what do you want then? Or do you want a refund? She was so abrupt, her tone was rude, and so I said I was just asking my husband and she said I need your answer, so I just said a refund please. After then waiting until 8.20 we contacted the restaurant after order was 10 mins late for an update for them to tell us they hadn’t even started cooking it yet! Furthermore they said it would be at least 15 mins to cook and then further time to deliver, but we could have a free coke to apologise! We declined and asked for a full refund to be told we had to ring Just eat to arrange! Asked to speak to the manager after lady on the phone was rude a second time to be told ‘she only speaks Chinese so won’t be able to speak to you’ Total waste of time ordering from this incompetent restaurant and rude unhelpful staff didn’t help matters either. We order takeaway from here once or twice a month. The food itself is really very good, but more often than not the heavily made up young female counter/telephone staff are disinterested and rude, and on the odd occasion we have orders delivered the drivers are also rude and one recent female driver appeared to be a lady of the night...bit inappropriate when delivering to customer homes. At busy times deliveries can be very late. Always best to collect and ignore the bad attitude from said counter staff, as the chefs are great.

The serving portions are decent, food is comparable to other Chinese takeaways locally and this is the only chinese takeaway in Westbury that you can order from online. Ot's always a plus when you don't have to have cash to order a takeaway! Try the shredded chilli beef it's good.

The food we ordered and went to collect was totally wrong,we ended up with chicken balls when we had orders sweet n sour, the food was awful,my wife was sick and unwell through the night we won't be going back there ever,so take a word of advice STAY AWAY....

Absolute joke!!! Hour and a half after ordering I called up to explain that this food was a treat for my kids as we rarely eat takeaway, and that it was now getting close to their bedtime, and I wanted a refund. I was told the managers don't speak English and there was nothing he could do, and just to mention the food was still not even on route to us. Speaking to me like I was in the wrong, jokers!!!

Wrong order, then got refused to have my proper order, rude on the phone, delivery service poor throw the food in my door way. Asked for refund but refused. Ordered my food at 7'45 finally got my order at 10pm after arguing on the phone for ages.

Driver very rude and called complaining the food was cold because he couldn't find my house and had been 'looking for ages' - despite me clearly writing 'please call if you have trouble finding us' and providing phone number. Food was watery, small portions and beef tough as old boots. Chips anaemic and undercooked. Even the prawn crackers had gone stale. Went to Hot Wok the week after and it was worlds apart; fresh and tasty with generous portions. Will not be going to Star East again.

I got home and the Szechuen chicken was mini battered chicken pieces on a bed of lettuce and onion with no sauce I called back and explained that I didn't have what I ordered and was told they do this dish dry with no sauce, I've never had this dish served this wayear and it was tasteless as was the curry sauce. Won't be going there again as they must have had people complain about this dish and when I ordered they should have told me it was dry
