Visited the pub for a dear friend reunion Great atmosphere

I always have a Good Time 🌃 ⏲ when I goes to this Place as the Bar 🍻🍺 Staff are very Friendly and Helpful and Polite with Everyone else who is in there with Me as well. Would certainly Recommend this Place to anyone else who might be interested in going there. XXX.

Great atmosphere, brilliant staff and banging food from just one chef holding down the fort for the evening we visited. Brilliant feast, Pints on point, Never a complaint at the star and garter.

Best pub in Bristol. Arrived on a Sunday and they got to try some of the most delicious roasties for free.

I been there with one of my sisters and my baby brother his the landlord ok and some of my family was there 2 and cousins and family on my Dad's side was there and on my Mum's family 2 a very nice day lot going on food drinks and lots of music and Bob Marley son was there 2 and a few more famous people ok from Elvis

Waited for an hour for food to arrive… went to the bar and before I even asked for it one of the girls said “ your’s is coming out in a minute!” and a second said “any drinks?”. Would really appreciate a heads up and an apology when I’ve just spent over £45 and you knew the food was late… The food was good but I didn’t really got to enjoy it with how the situation was handled.

5 stars all around. Roast dinner was banging. I had beef and chicken. (Greedy) 🤪 Gravey was the best.

Excellent and considerate staff! After a wild Halloween night I thought I'd lost some property for good. But three months later I walk into the pub, casually inquire, and they still had what I'd lost. Three months! Caring and professional staff who you should feel safe around. Shout out to Liv for finding it, huge appreciation.

An all round 5⭐️ experience. A venue full of cultural gems, a trip down memory lane into 60's & 70's reggae, b-bop, Ska & rock steady..awesome! Drunks are reasonably priced, a friendly crowd & illuminating atmosphere. Go to Bristol & check put this hidden gem.

Bristol's legendary Star and Garter, on the border between Boho Montpelier and St Paul's, has put it's grungy days behind it but kept all the character and multicultural cool that made this place an institution of the city's music scene and nightlife. Enjoy a chill out in the covered garden or find a spot on the grass outside and hunker down on a summer afternoon.

First time I’ve been back here since around 2006. The garden is new…… and odd. Definitely gentrified since I was last there. I mean there were more……… sorry, I’ve thought about a myriad of ways of saying it, but they all turn out a little bit r****t

Despite the shabby outside, this place is a good pub, very clean and great service It no longer offers much food, just rather average Jamaican patties, but still recommended

Classic pub grub. If visiting Falmouth I’d recommend getting take away from any of the outstanding take aways and eating it in beerwolf- unfortunately we booked this before I could steer the group that way and it was 20£ a head to cancel. If you’re inclined,, there are much more interesting/ quirky and affordable places to go to in Falmouth

Nice pub with lots of character and they serve delish Jamaican food. Decent selection of beers and good music. It gets pretty rowdy in the evenings so good for groups

Had a referb since I last went in some years ago. Still a good pub and well presented with a big smoking area. But.more expensive now but what isn't, pints are a but cheaper elsewhere regardless. Lost a bit of its rough charm and seems to cater for more of the hipster/student/im still a cool adult crowd. Good pub but not somewhere I'd go one the regular unless they have an event or soundsytem which they do seem to fairly often.

Food is always banging. One time he slightly messed the chicken up and gave me like sooo much free stuff. Amazing. Not even just bias cos it’s my local. Thank you x

Food is INCREDIBLE definitely one of the best Carribbean plates for me. Staff are also just great at their jobs and up for a laugh. The chef really cares about the food he's making and it shows

A proper traditional pub, with great food and drinks selection. Not at all a pretentious gastro-pub which all look and sound the same. Classic family-run pub with character! Great atmosphere to watch sports as well.

In the past there was one star from me, but now after the change (I hope that the security also are different, it wasn't safe space for women before -3 years back) now there is an atmospheric small garden very nice service and good cook food very tasty dog friendly gf beer available not sure about the nights

Had to stop off in Bristol overnight and checked into the nearest pub on my drive in to get a drink and some food. Did not expect the Caribbean style for sure, was very quiet but the barmaids and chef were all friendly, I got the meat patty and a drink and was happy with both. Pleasant pub to stop in during an afternoon and would recommend to others, parking was a bit hard to come by but not being from Bristol so not having a permit I'm sure played a part in this

Nice music but no reggae for a Saturday night...bit disappointed there was hip hop jazz...but no reggae but we enjoyed ourselves

We had an extremely unpleasant experience last Saturday. I was visiting friends in Bristol and after a wonderful dinner we have decided to participate in the charity event in Star and Garter. However it all turned sour when we wanted to get in. The door man was very rude and aggressive towards me for no reason. When I wanted to go in and reached for the door handle he brutally pulled me away from the door and I almost fell on the ground. He also started to yell at me to wait outside. This man had no right to touch me with his finger, yet alone to grab me in such a aggressive manner. I believe the door staff are hired to prevent problems from happening not to cause them. It was an absolutely disgusting incident and we will stay away from this place for sure.

Great staff, good drinks and the place is just a vibe. Food has a hit to it do keep that in mind if you're v weak with spice. Great chicken and sides. Would mainly go here for drinks than food personally

Not a patch on what the place used to be as a pub . The food is ok but all of the character left with Ken. Hopefully it might find a change of management at some point in the future .

I didn't get to finish this review before but yes I enjoyed aspects of the place - very different from the old star, which was fun for different reasons. Two things let it down for me:the bizarre covid rules, which meant we were confined to the drafty and dark outside area. Then the 'vibe killing' music, more suited to the end of a night, not 6pm. The positives- service was quick & polite and food well above average, though paper plates and wooden cutlery is never good when paying proper prices. Having read about the new ownership and refurb of this pub over last couple of years, my visit left me a little underwhelmed.

Great beer and caribbean food at a pub with an excellent ventilated outdoor area (a big louvred lean-to). Note that although they take table reservations, they don't seem to like answering the phone or reading email.

Usually love this place, but tonight was an exception we arrived 15 mins early to be told we were late and they gave our table away . After some choice words he chucked us on a little table near the rain. Sat there 20 mins no one came to take an order , we then walked out.

Had my first night out at the pub last nigh at the Star and Garter. They have it sorted there now. Good beer. Good food and the outside/inside space is brilliant. Top marks. Cheers.

The new outdoor area is fantastic

Went last Sunday for some super amazing food. It was recommended by a friend. Had the veggie Ital Stew and my partner the goat curry. Simple, quality, flavorful and generous. Highly recommended!

Very rude on the door. We were in good spirits when we arrived and confronted by a very blunt attitude. Not welcoming at all. Told my girlfriend sister to SIT DOWN in a very aggressive manner when she was just trying to get her daughter to her. Felt more like a prison entry system to be able to gain entry. No wonder so many people chose to sit in the park then in the pub outside. Was about to write this review complaining about aggressive doorstaff and looked up the star and garter pub and turned out the angry guy on the door was the landlord himself! We left without having a meal we booked and opted for elsewhere!
