Been a couple of times now and the food is amazing and staff brilliant always happy to help , we had a big table of around ten of us and the staff were great and food was amazing

Food is amazing Best food in the area. I highly recommend the Steak loaded fries and the crumble. The staff are so lovely and they always make a fuss of my little daughter. I came a 3 weeks ago and I've been back every week sometimes twice. Highly recommend.

Plenty of tables abailable around 4pm Sunday, but was very busy 2pm. Good food. I recommend chicken pate starter. Brisket was just a bit dry, but still enjoyable, hot on the plate, cabbage wasn't overcooked. Cheesecake was small, nothing special, but ok. I don't think I'd order any of deserts next time.

Very nice change ..top end prices for what you get ..which is v good 👍 Had ribs to start 😋..would have liked 3 ...only got 2 ..the burger deal on a Wednesday is good with a pint..but a £ extra for chips....????

Popped in yesterday on my walk for a quick pint and eventhough it was quite busy during Sunday lunch service I received amazing customer service and my pint was lovely.

Fantastic food had lunch today and it was beautiful fresh and well presented service was fantastic staff very friendly.

Come here when biking to and from seaham, this was the first time trying the food and I'm so sad I didn't sooner. Loved it. We got the Freshly baked bread plate with dipping butter (£6) and the beef dripping chunky chips (£4.50) both were really good.

Not been to this place for years but it didn't disappoint. Great food, knowledgeable about allergies and checked if unsure. Excellent quality. Good value and good choices too.

Sad the menu complicates vegetarian food when there is no need. Veggies are literally easier customers to please cos they eat no expensive animal products. Staff trying hard to accommodate ❤️❤️

First time visiting tonight. Food was delicious. I had the pan fried sea bass, hubby had the squid/pork/ belly pork spewers. Very tasty. Prompt service with a lovely smile. We ate in the restaurant which was lovely. We’ll visit again most definitely.

Great village pub with good selection of bar meals. Now under new management and completely redecorated. As two of us are very fond of steaks we were attracted to learn more about the Bavette steaks on offer. Commonly known as the 'butchers cut' as it's close to the area of the rump, it's cooked medium rare with the outside charred. Outstanding in every respect and the best steak meal I've ever had! We will be back!! ❤️

Pre-wedding dinner with 18 of us in total. Pre-booked everything and this was a game-changer. Service was simply faultless and the food was amazing. We had guests from the US and they loved it. Special mention to Kirsty, who was brilliant - making sure every one of us was looked after. 100% recommend!

Came for lunch today with a friend who has food allergies. The menu, as at most places, was full of spices etc. But after explaining to the lady serving she was brilliant and assured us that the chef would prepare my friend’s dishes separately to her requirements and there would be no cross contamination. The food was great for both of us. I would heartily recommend.

First time here since it was taken over, absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch. I had sirloin and my wife had slow cooked brisket, just melted in your mouth. Various veg, cooked perfectly, topped with a lovely gravy. We were stuffed but couldn't resist a dessert, I had sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. 😋 Staff were so friendly and service was impeccable, can't wait to go back and try a steak as they look amazing...😍

We Decided to try the sharing Desperate Dan Cow pie for Sunday Lunch it came with all the usual Sunday veg and trimmings and it was absolutely delicious , this is a great country style pub with fantastic food on offer the service was amazing and all of the staff are so friendly and professional we will definitely be back.

Totally disagree with a previous review saying portion size too small. The portion sizes were far more than enough, service was super quick, staff were lovely and the food was gorgeous. Highly recommend.

It is the first time we’ve been in since it was taken over by the people at fox and tree. The lady in charge was so lovely and was very accommodating (veggie) we will without a doubt be back again.

Visited this place on Sunday 3rd March 2024 Were early for our booking so we had a couple of drinks before lunch A very 'vinegarry" merlot and a not very nice pint of"Rivet Catcher" Ordered 2 beef sunday lunches which arrived very quickly but not very hot ? Beef with stuffing balls ?? Not to our taste I'm aftraid Meals only average and certainly not what we were expecting for a place thats just changed their menus recently.

The menu is basic but the food is very well prepared, generously portioned and delicious. We will be going back.)

Great food and lovely staff! Very good options for anyone with dietary requirements including a dairy free Sunday lunch so I could have mash for the first time in years! Brilliant portion sizes and good selection of deserts too at a surprisingly low price (~£14 for 2 courses!)

Had Sunday lunch here a couple of years ago and it was gorgeous. Today was totally different. The whole thing was swimming in a quite tasteless gravy. Roasties were not roasties, they were soft. Stuffing resembled wall paper paste. It was such a shame . Yes the price was OK but reflected the poor standard. Board outside says food until 4, website says until 3.30. Couple came in dead on 3 but were refused food so how do you know what is what? Really disappointed. Got early taxi home I'm afraid .

Village pub with a friendly management and excellent beers.

Food lovely although bit too much however dining room was freezing cold. Waitress was excellent. So efficient and friendly.

Good honest cooking piping hot food really tasty at a very reasonable price. Great selection of pub grub thoroughly enjoyed 2 x mains 2 puds 5 drinks just over £43 great value. Try it you won't be disappointed. 😋

Thursday lunchtime around 12:30. Called in after visit to Dalton Park. Surprised to find the pub virtually empty. Nevertheless we stayed and enjoyed some good old-fashioned home cooking. A good choice of meals with a dedicated gluten-free section in the menu. Friendly and accommodating staff.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday lunch however hubby didn't it was really tasty he's not a fan of shredded cabbage and he had both stuffing balls as I'm not a fan of them he said hard must be frozen and had the same comment for the garden peas

I picked this place to eat by chance. I had the most delicious Yorkshire Wrap and have been back for more since. Recently got asked at work if ever had one of these and shared my experience. On the day my brother asked me to swap meals. So wasn't happening. Found the place to be very relaxing and staff very friendly.

Three of the main things on the menu they didn't have which did not leave much choice. Two of the meals were slightly over cooked two were OK. The staff were very helpful and cheerful. Hope it's a one off as it's a nice pub and would like to visit again.

A few of us came here with my uncle after we'd been to scatter my Father's ashes as this was their first local, many moons ago. Service, food and atmosphere were all top notch. Thank you!

We were a party of 4 and had a lovely meal here on 11th August. Starters mains and desserts..Great home cooked meals..freshly made and very reasonably priced. Good selection of ales and lager. Very friendly and accommodating staff and dog friendly too.

brilliant food excellent service good value

Ordered 2 pints of larger and sat outside in the sun and manager came out and talked with us for a good 15 minutes lovely place to stop off while out walking

Love the food, service is great. Guest ales, all great. Didn't enjoy sitting next to 4 well spoken, seemingly very professional guys listening to them swear too much, too loudly. I honestly thought they'd see my daughter n at least try to curb their cursing, nope. This is not a reflection on the establishment in any way, however it does make me think we'll go again but without my daughter if the circumstances allow. We moved from the seated, eating area to the bar to put distance between them and my daughter

Couldn’t fault the meal it was a great sunday lunch As for the service it was appalling first of all got a pint of lager instead of a shandy Then meal came had to wait for our cutlery, then they forgot the mint sauce an huffed about it My boyfriend had ordered 2 meats an only got one so had to tell them, they bought 3 small pieces of beef to us in a dish, which 3 does not go for 2 people I went and ordered a dessert and got charged again for the meal which my boyfriend had already paid for, 6 days later the £32 extra that I was charged is still not back in my account We won’t be using the place again

An above average relaxed village public house. CAMRA real ales, good pub food with a very wide selection. Separate menu sections for light bites, starters, main courses, vegetarian, vegan, senior citizens, etc. Our first visit but it won't be our last.

My lovely Son treated me today for Sunday lunch. What can I say absolutely beautiful and very tasty as always 👌

Sunday lunch had 2 courses for £14.95, good value. The Sunday lunch itself was all homemade but cud do with a little more veg. My partner n I both got the beef. Which we both left as it was chewy n full of gristle. It was as if it had been boiled for hours even had a strange colour. My grandaughter had the pork. Which I did not taste but it looked slightly better. Desert was nice. Atmosphere in the pub was good. Staff very friendly. Prompt service. Guys get the meat right n it wud be at least 4 stars.

Beautiful village pub, good selection of beer on draft and hand pull, a warming wood burning stove making it extra cosy in the bar and plenty of outdoor seating. Extensive menu, separating out vegetarian, gluten and dairy free options. Would recommend the hand made pizzas and the corned beef pie, delicious!

Limited space and often busy around lunchtime and felt claustrophobic in the back room. There's a smoking area outside if that's your thing. Drinks & Food are expensive( esp the latter ). They allow dogs in as well--- 2.5 *

Good local pub close to beauty spot o Hawthorn Dene. Food nice and and staff friendly. I had a light lunch before walking down to the beach and it made for a great afternoon out.

Stopped off for a drink on a walk from Seaham to Easington and back via Hawthorn. Great stop off, immaculate pub and friendly staff. Other half assures the Pinot is beautiful.

Great village pub with homemade selection of meals. Both myself and my wife plumped for the Homemade Chinese Chicken Curry with Rice and Chips, which comes with Prawn Crackers. Couldn't fault the meals or service, we'll done The Stapps.
