Stairwayz Cafe in Gateshead

This has to be the best little cafe around. We visited for the first time today on recommendation from my friend and we were not disappointed. As we had a busy morning we didn’t have time for breakfast so we all ordered Breakfast items. The standard of the food is exceptional. Sausages were so nice and you could tell they weren’t a cheap grade. Thick bacon cooked perfect. Nice soft yolk on the egg and the rest complimented the meal. The breakfast wrap my daughters partner had looked fab and he said it was delicious. Then my 4 year old grandson ordered the pancakes and he devoured almost all of them. Even taking what was left on a stick and eating on the way back to the car 😂. All in all a great experience and we can’t recommend it enough and will definitely be back. Also I would like to add the staff and service was great too.

Visited this cafe today, the food and service was excellent! Liam was so friendly and welcoming! The food was beautiful I’ve never had a breakfast as good from anywhere else! Will 100% be back! 5* to the chef!

Second time in 6 weeks we’ve been here for breakfast. Saturdays are busy and we had to wait a while, the other time during the week was fine. Food was good , eggs cooked well and my son’s omelette was lovely. When ordering toast with jam, I just got 1 slice of toast cut in half, obviously that is not what I was expecting, anyway ordered another slice with no probs, maybe they should ask how many slices you’d like as it was the same last time when I had poached eggs. Service was good and it was lovely and warm there. Defo go again, very reasonable prices.

This is by far the best café in the UK. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. The food is top notch and the venue is cute. Any issue the staff sort it out instantly. Even offered a free drink on the house when the food took a little longer than expected.

Had afternoon tea delivered. There were only 2x 'quarter' sized sandwiches (only 1 slice of bread used in total) per person, and I wasn't given any choice of what these would be. I had a square of quiche the size of a postage stamp. I had a very watery trifle which hadn't set and several little cakes. The ratio between savoury and sweet is all wrong. More sandwiches, less cakes please.

Visiting Stairwayz for the first time with my partner recently and we loved the quaint and cosy interior. We were greeting by smiling staff and sat down where we requested. Our waiter (Liam) was super kind and brought us our coffee and tea, asking us how our day was going and recommending the best things to eat. Unfortunately our visit was cut short with an emergency call but Liam and the staff at Stairwayz, kindly boxed up our order for takeout at a moments notice. Thanks so much for the kind visit and we can't wait to visit again!

Stairwayz catered for my husbands 60th birthday, family and friends get together. They were punctual, efficient and the food was amazing, and commented on by almost everyone as "lovely" As the venue had forgotten to put us in their diary, Stairwayz ended up cleaning up the area before they could set up. A first class service- would highly recommend.

Fabulous afternoon tea for three,easy to order, easy to collect, delicious! Excellent value for money.

Got a afternoon tea for two as an early mothers day present for my mam. Really fresh, great variety and easily worth the money I paid. Can't recommend it more highly. Will definitely back

Stairwayz have been doing an absolutely brilliant job of catering for people throughout lockdown. We have had take away milkshakes (my daughters especially love the mint chocolate ones), chicken and chorizo ciabattas, pancake stacks, cake and chicken schwarma wraps. Each thing we've had has been delicious and a great treat to lift the spirits during these times of restrictions. My dad regularly orders the Sunday lunch, which he has delivered to him, and is very impressed by it. Super friendly and caring owner. Can't wait to be able to book a table again.

Visited two weeks ago and had a lovely meal so decided to take my friends for my birthday, When I tried to book i was asked to phone to make a booking. I rang today Lee answered the phone and said you can't book a table so when I said I wanted to book in advance for afternoon teas (which needed two days notice) he said were fully booked and hung up on me, can I remind Lee the table we were sat at two weeks ago was reserved from 3 o'clock, go figure.

Visited today for the first time, ordered a full English and a milkshake, food arrived in decent time and Liam our waiter was polite friendly and approachable. Will 100% be returning!! Excellent staff!! Excellent food!!

Lovely little cafe, I’ve been a few times with my girlfriend and it has never disappointed the food is delicious.

This place was such an amazing find. It's affordable and the food is amazing. Me and my friends went there to have some afternoon tea and it was just such a lovely afternoon. Cannot give this little place enough love, it's absolutely gorgeous. The staff were also so friendly and accomodating - they really looked after us!

Fab little place. Everything we have had from coffee's to lovely sandwiches and gorgeous scones we give top Mark's. Even take scones home if there are any left they are beautiful.

Came here with My Husband for breakfast it was delicious. I had a standard cooked breakfast which was a good size and he had the monster cooked breakfast. We both enjoyed it. Got lots of toast and I loved that you got your tea in a little teapot each. Lovely cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. Look forward to going back to enjoy more home cooked food.

We had my Daughter Lindsey’s baby shower here yesterday, from start to finish the team at stairwayz were fantastic nothing was too much trouble, the food was delicious and I would definitely recommend visiting here

After a day’s training I came across this cafe/restaurant with a group of friends... Meet Elie the front man and the owner and straight away made us feel welcome and advised what maybe we would like to eat ... He wasn’t wrong at all !?! Good/Fresh quality food with reasonable price ... Will come back with Friends again...

They say they cook their food fresh, we didn't mind waiting the 40mins, but the breakfast was cold when it arrived the mushrooms were pulp, the egg had been fried in dirty fat, the beans were cold the toast was white toast and the sausage was mostly cereal. The staff seemed nice, but that doesn't make up for rubbish food. Needless to say won't be going back.

A pretty good small place to eat. The flat white was alright and it was served in a a awkward glass. The service was fast. Very nice staff. Fantastic chocolate cake. It was really really cheap.

Or work from a cafe should I say. I like to work from Stairwayz a couple of times a month mid-week. I can enjoy some great coffee and some food whilst taking advantage of the free WiFi for a couple of hours.

Found this cosy little cafe today and the food was amazing.Staff friendly and very quick service. I had the home-made pie and chips and gelato afterwards which is made in Northumberland. I will be back guys..

Shocking service and awful food. Waited 25 minutes for a tuna sandwich and was served a large bun with a millimetres scraping of tuna mayonnaise. I complained and they said they'd add more filling, however, I am positive the filling was scraped off to mix with pure mayonnaise and then re-added. If id wanted a sandwich with no filling I'd have bought a supermarket sandwich and saved my money.

Came on Saturday just gone and it was the busiest cafe I have ever saw however it is fair to say the staff handles it fantastic. I ordered a monster with a latte and considering how busy it was I received my food and drink remarkably quick everyone was so happy and cheerful definitely recommend to anyone in the area who hasn't been before or anybody traveling.

Waiting an hour and 20 mins. No food. Jacket potatoes panini, nothing complicated. Lots of others waiting too. People who arrived after getting served. Terrible. Never going back.

There was little to no coffee in my cappuccino. I politely asked for an extra shot as there was no coffee in my coffee. I very grumpy man complied and added a shot. So although I’ve heard good things and came on a recommendation I feel the coffee is lacking and customer service could be friendlier if you have a complaint. When I mentioned to others their cappuccinos are lacking coffee several folks had had similar experiences. The shop has a lovely atmosphere but if your going for a catch up with friends I’d pick tea (and possibly not have anything to complain about).

I love stairwayz - I've been a few times with friends and family and it's always been excellent. It may not be the fastest food - they don't claim it is - but it is worth waiting for! I whole heartedly recommend the Dave Lynas special brekkie (available all day)... Black pudding, crispy bacon,poached eggs, mushrooms and avocado with slices of toast. Latte and the Berry smoothie also come highly recommended! The staff are always very welcoming and friendly too. No disabled access but there is space downstairs for the pushchair and they have highchairs in the cafe upstairs.

I like beans on toast and the one here is brilliant one time on the way out they gave me a sweet fast service great food I go there for breakfast but normally lunch it is very good I enjoy a good stairways cafe

Stairwayz hosted my surprise baby shower on Saturday afternoon and I could not be more impressed. The afternoon tea was brilliant and such good value for money. The cafe was the perfect size for 20 guests and the service was really warm and friendly.

Visited Saturday and was very pleased with the quality of the full English here. Welcoming staff, cosy atmosphere and at a price that is incredibly affordable. Will definitely be visiting again!

Went in here on the way to Northumberland (Farne Islands Dive Trip) Fantastic Value for Money and great food. Also a great selection of Ice Creams as well. This is well worth a visit and I would highly recommend

I have visited stairways a few times this week and I am so impressed, each time I can't wait to come back, from a cupa & breakfast of poached eggs with friends to breakfast then on my own of poached with avocado, to late lunch with my husband, he had cornef beef pie special served with mashed potato, carrots, cabbage & gravy he loved it & we came in late & they didn't mind! to a delicious Mediterranean salad on my own I have never tasted dressed salad leaves like it everything was fab! I highly recommended Stairways to everyone whatever your taste it will be catered for & you will love it. Fantastic Service. Thank you everyone at Stairwayz : )

Thanks for a great afternoon yesterday! 10 of us visited to celebrate our friend's baby shower. We couldn't have asked for better service from the staff at Stairwayz. They were extremely accommodating; allowing us to decorate the area and helping us with all of the presents.

Good breakfast food, good view, good prices. On Durham road, perfect for light snacks. Gluten free bread too.

First visit this morning. Coffee and a bacon sandwich - my friend had Leek & Potato soup. Both were excellent. Freshly prepared and tasty.

Been recommended by friends so myself and my Mam thought we would try it out. Very reasonable prices and a good selection of drinks and food. Only problem is not accessible at all for wheelchair users or people with pushchairs. Food and drinks came very quickly with a friendly service. We will be back soon as want to experience the afternoon tea

Nice atmosphere , pleasant owner. Sat down with my coffee waiting for my scone to be warmed in the oven ,after 5 to 10 minutes scone served, looked and felt hot enough on the outside but once sliced open cold in the middle evident that it may have been frozen earlier looked inviting on the cake stand amazingly the owner decided to heated up even further stipulated it was fresh this morning . After reheating did not taste nice at all considered taking it for the birds. Decided to give him back and said I’d have another cup of coffee instead,he consented with no real apology or explanation upon leaving I decided to confront him saying I make my own scones regularly and I know that this was not Fresh at all. He pulled out a Tupperware box with several more and looked bamboozeled. Although popular. All others seemed happy,BUT they were not eating scones. I take it he is the owner ,visited a year ago.Plus his personal photos adorn the wall.

This weeks breakfast hunt took us to Low Fell. Friendly welcome to a small and busy upstairs cafe. Nicely decorated and clean and obviously popular with the locals. Prices are amazing really, £5 for the 'big' breakfast, £4 for the 'standard'. So for two including tea and extra toast just over £13 can't be sniffed at. The ingredients were good quality and portions generous but my one gripe was that not all were as hot as I would like with the sausages and beans luke warm at best. Still overall good value for money.

We visited this cafe early on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. After we ordered we waited quite a while, but it was worth the wait. The food was delicious.

I would strongly recommend a lunchtime (or afternoon) visit to this friendly, attractive cafe in Low Fell. The ambience is warm and friendly, there is a wide menu and the food is cheaply-priced but cooked to a high standard. I had a 3egg mushroom omelette with a slice of hot buttered toast, (you can have a side salad alternative) The meal was hot, delicious, served with a smile, and only cost £3! My husband had a very large hot Turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberry sauce. With a pot of tea for two and plenty hot water, the whole meal only came to £9.50. A nice view from the windows and newspapers to read were an added bonus. We should try to support local cafes like this!

It;s not very often we go to Low Fell but we always like to pop in to this cafe , it's usually busy but nearly always get a seat , I had an omlette with 5 fillings , my wife went for a toasty both with chips , tea coffee and a coke bill came to roughly £14 , chips were very slightly under cooked but not a great problem

We have been using Stairwayz on our occasional visits to the North East over the last few years. We stop off in Low Fell, just outside Gateshead, for breakfast when travelling from Newcastle en route to Newton Aycliffe. There is 1 hour free on street parking nearby and some car parks. Situated above a florist it is pleasantly decorated and furnished with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent with a wide choice of meals for all through the day. The strong coffee is excellent and an extra cup is just £1 extra. I noticed the set breakfasts are 2 4 1 on Wednesdays. [Please check]

Perfect for breakfast and lunch! The best avocado on toast I've had and for such a reasonable price! (Also if you like chai lattes, he makes the best). Highly recommend and try the pancakes, they're not to be missed!

Son number two was staying with us and suggested we pop out for brunch - for pancakes. This place was recommended by my local FB page and it was great. Bright and spacious, very friendly service and a good choice of food at a very reasonable price. I had avocado on toast with poached eggs which was better than I was last served at a much more expensive place. Couldn't resist some excellent gelato for dessert. Son number two polished off his pancakes with bacon and maple syrup then followed up with waffles and chocolate sauce which he told me he wouldn't be able to manage. Somehow he did. I never did get a taste. We will be back.

Stairwayz cafe is a firm favourite of mine. The menu is inventive and caters for everyone. I had a delicious vegetarian salad on my latest visit and of course I had to sample some gelato from the new gelato bar. The staff are great and I love it here.

My friend and I were looking for somewhere for lunch and found this place on Google. The café is light and airy, decor is pleasant and there was quiet background music (Magic Soul radio!)

We've visited this cafe various times, under both the old management and now the new, and everytime you're on to a winner, the food is excellent, extremely good value, service is impeccable and, if you can get a window seat, a meal with a view.

This was my first visit to Stairwayz and my first impressions were what a lovely, bright space it is. The high ceilings and large windows make for a really nice atmosphere. The new owners are settling in well and any teething issues are being addressed (they are more than happy to take any comments on board) Service was quick and friendly. The menu features a good variety including breakfasts, sandwiches, Panini's, omelettes etc. The drinks menu was equally good with tea's, coffee's, juices and smoothies. I chose a cheese and marmite Panini which was served with salad and coleslaw, my food arrived quickly and was well presented, it tasted delicious. To drink I had a layered macchiato which was beautifully presented and piping hot. For desert I had chocolate almond cake which was to die for. The prices reflect excellent value for money for such good quality. There is WIFI available and I really enjoyed doing some work at my laptop on my visit. Next time I go I will relax with the newspapers provided or my book. There are stairs to get into the café but the owners are happy to give assistance to anyone who requires it. This id a great little café and I will be back in the near future. Stairwayz run many offers on their social media pages too.

Went for my lunch. Everything was brilliant. A lovely homely vibe, incredibly polite staff and the best coffee and food I've ever had in any cafe in Newcastle/Gateshead. Will definitely be back. Would recommend straight away for anyone who's looking for a wonderful time with wonderful coffee.

We went on Wednesday this week for the first time it's been under new ownership. Previously we've been lots of times. It wasn't busy but we had a longish wait for two coffees. The coffee was good tho.

Great food and staff with an excellent atmosphere. The staff will do anything to help you and you always get plenty of food for a great price.

Met a friend here for breakfast, wow what can I say...I opted for the cheese scone with bacon egg and cheese on...calorific but mouth watering. ..for being a smallish place there is quite a selection .so definitely wil be bk soon to try out them all..well almost.

Tucked away on Low Fell high street this cafe is a hidden gem. Had an all day breakfast and the only thing I could fault was there weren't enough beans! The decor is cosy, the prices are very good value and the food is lovely. Would recommend. They even take card payment which is rare in such small establishments these days. Fab.
