We arrived on bank holiday monday having booked through using trip advisor. The server didn't know we had booked and there was nobody in the whole place. No Draught, no coke available. 2 seperate men's. One had brasserie 1806 branded, the other a rather colourful burger joint style menu branded with 'Krave'. The food was pretty poor, watery gravy, over expensive curry compared to everything else. £17 for a curry and rice. Just really bizarre. The only positive thing was the barman/server. He was really nice and polite. All in all a very strange experience.

My friends and I have recently had lunch with a Groupon voucher, firstly the menu was limited, two had fish & chips and a pie for myself, we asked for some vinager which came in two pots, l asked for some gravy which looked strange when it came. To be honest it was tipical pub grub but more expensive, if we had paid full price l would not have been happy. There were three lots of lady couples having afternoon tea which all had been served, the waiter who was really nice kept going backwards and forwards cause he forgot plates, then milk etc. It took an age for him to take our order, than an age to receive it even though nearly everyone had gone, bearing in mind there was nobody else in the whole place. The piped music instantly stopped when all the other ladies left. After more waiting and asking for the deserts which there was a choice of only two, he mentioned because of the weekend they hadn't got anything else, we ordered two chocolate cakes, one treacle sponge, when the puds arrived after another long wait, we didn't have the heart to say he'd got it wrong. The best part about our lunch was the glass of wine which was included. I think we should have gone for the afternoon tea because it did look lovely. If you want people to return then, the service needs to be a lot better, the waiter was on his own, we noticed the manager wandering about he could have helped as l've seen many others do. All in all we won't be returning, so Staindrop please heed what customers are saying, Groupon's ok but this time poor value.

This restaurant was not what is advertised online. We got there on a Sunday and it was empty, which is always a bad sign. The menus were dirty with the previous guests dinner still on them. The server was polite and tried his best but clearly wasn’t trained enough. No wine/drinks menu. Food was ok but the pie was supposed to come with mash and greens, and it arrived with chips and broccoli. The gravy was watery. The fish and chips were tiny for the price. The desserts we wanted were unavailable, which I understand can’t always be helped. This whole experience was just disappointing and overpriced. Definitely won’t come back.

Visited yesterday as a party of 5 for afternoon tea. It was a great experience. The food was lovely, so fresh and tasty. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was nice too. Thank you

The member of staff on duty was very accomadating and bent over backwards to help us . John was very good at multi tasking ,as the restauarnt was short staffed that day . Our afternoon was ready on time and contents wee willingly changed to suit our needs . Even though the sandwiches were prepared before hand , the bread was not dry . Fillings were generous and the food was well presented . A lovely range of cakes , decorated with fresh fruit . Scones were warm and we had plenty of jam and cream to go with them . Refill of hot drinks were brought and a glass of water each provided. Food and service were impeccable .

We held our daughters 18th birthday party in the private function room. We also stayed and had a number of family members stay in the hotel rooms From the start Lucy the events organiser was extremely helpful and easy to contact. She ensured that the arrangements met all our needs. On the night staff were brilliant and helpful, food was lovely and the whole event went perfectly. The hotel rooms were also lovely. We stayed in a large room with a double bed which was well furnished and clean. My daughter had a lovely room with spa bath and other family members commented on how nice the rooms and facilities were. Overall we would highly recommend Staindrop Lodge for both private functions and the hotel.

I genuinely do not know where to start. We booked as part of a Groupon deal and arrived ready for a 2 course meal wirh wine. Except there was no chef and they thought we were there for afternoon tea at 12:30. So laughed it off and agreed to re-book (bear in mind they had already redeemed the voucher) So we returned and the menu was slightly smaller than expected there were also items not available. Again it's OK and we order and waited. The starter arrived garlic prawns with artisinal bread. It was bizarre. Cooked cucumber and courgette, rubbery bread but not as rubbery as the prawns and for some reason a HUGE bowl of salad. Never mind the main will be OK we thought Wrong This was sold as a place selling locally sourced produce and what we got was supermarket value brand produce at best. It www awful. I had to send mine back twice as it was cold. It was was not even worth the Groupon price let alone the menu prices. Appalled

Six of us had Boxing Day lunch here all had the gammon. Underdone carrots, underdone sprouts, hardly warm mashed potatoes, roast potatoes roasted just short of a crisp. Three meals went back and they were good enough to serve us three new meals unfortunately no better than the first. Two of us were adventurous enough to order the xmas pud to follow cooked just short of incineration but the custard was nice. Not one to normally complain but when you pay £165 for meals you tend to expect some degree of satisfaction.

Absolutely delicious food snd generous portion sizes. All home cooked to order. Friendly, welcoming staff. Would highly recommend

Stayed for 2 nights as we had a wedding to attend close by. The hotel is very pretty and decorated beautifully. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was delicious, clearly all made fresh in house and service was very good. The room was very spacious and clean. The only downsides were the room wasn’t very well lit, the tea and coffee tray is very minimal and no drinking glasses were provided so had to call down for some so I could take my tablets. Can’t comment on the breakfast as this is at an additional cost and we weren’t prepared to pay more. For the price of the room it would be good if at least a continental breakfast was included and bottled water would be a nice touch to have in the room. That being said I would still recommend this place, especially if you are travelling a long distance like we did as it was nice being able to have a nice meal at the hotel and not having to go out again after the long journey.

We had a very good meal with a good choice. Service was very good. Beef and ale pie and scampi followed by cheese cake and pecan pie.

Although the rooms were large, the furniture and carpets had certainly done their duty, old fashioned, evening meal was ok but the server advised that they did not have all the ingredients for the starter it the main course was acceptable, the English breakfast had yesterday’s previously cooked sausages ie hard!, ideal for the location that I needed but i felt the rooms were in need of some TLC

Myself and my son stayed here for 2 nights. The location was ideal for his football tournament close by. The rooms are clean and spacious. The staff are friendly and welcoming, we felt safe. Clean towels and sufficient toilets were left in the bathroom. We did not get food so can not comment. We paid £110 for 2 night which is reasonably for the / hotel quality. We live in Ireland so can not comment/compare to previous. I would stay here again.

Presumably this place has changed hands post pandemic as the standards are definitely not at the level stated in previous reviews from Dec 19! Maintenance issues in room, very cold room,questionable stains on the carpet (hotel living up to its name!) and had to send breakfast back uneaten, also not sure what has happened to all the 'friendly staff ' who were discussed in many recent reviews on other websites, as not a single staff member acknowledged us apart from the young girl who checked us in. Toilet seat was cracked which resulted in trapped skin when you sat on the seat, this must have been seen by cleaning staff when preparing the room, but we reported again however member of staff on reception didn't seem interested in any of the issues we reported. At breakfast I asked for the pancakes with fruit to be told they didn't have the fruit so I chose the eggs floretine instead but they then said they couldn't do that either as they didn't have the ingredients for it but could do pancakes with fruit compote instead, when it came the pancake was very greasy and inedible and 'compote' looked and tasted strange too, sent it back and then he offered me the floretine instead! To which I reminded him they'd said they couldn't do floretine?! So no breakfast for me (husband's fry up was OK though). Place is very run down and massively understaffed, one man covering reception and breakfast who didn't seem interested in rectifying any issues. Shame, as it sounds like previously this place was once much better

My wife and I stopped 1 night in this Hotel and paid £80 + £20 for breakfast, the room itself was clean but the bed was very uncomfortable, the mattress was obviously cheap and old being very thin and when laying on it could hear the springs making a noise. Walls seem to be very thin being kept awake most of the night by people talking and playing music. To add to the problems breakfast was limited with little choice for my wife who is a veggie, the full english was OK. The Hotel lacked character in the reception no pictures and no signs of staff on check out on Sunday Morning. I think the quality of beds is not acceptable given the prices they charge compared to the Premier Inn standard which is far superior. Our room was 23

Just had Christmas Lunch,wow what a fantastic meal, second year in a row we've been,atmosphere was really good staff tended to our every need, the lunch which was four courses, it was cooked to perfection,can't fault it one bit, already pencilled ourselves in for 2020,well done to everyone who was involved in making our day go so well.

Xmas day dinner omg it was fantastic, food was amazing and staff great Connor and Rachel were suberb as were all the team Weve booked for next year on our way out Well done Staindrop Paul and Tina Lazenby

Booked for 6 people for Sunday lunch on the 3rd November. Great food and good service. We all enjoyed our visit. Will definitely recommend and come again. Only minor negative was it was a bit noisy but not a problem as it was very busy and did not the lovely meal and great service. Very enjoyable visit.

Went for a 60th birthday party and stayed the night. Couldn’t fault it. Great staff great food great accommodation. Would highly recommend

Visited for my 60th yesterday. What can I say. If you are coeliac or have a nut allergy DO NOT go. After a very lengthy wait, my meal was terrible and there was cross contamination because I was glutened. My daughter in law who has a nut allergy was rudely told kitchen has nuts all over but have you got your epi pen on you. She is 5 months pregnant. Really????? Not a place we will go to again.

Qué hotel tan encantador, personal muy amable y habitaciones bonitas, limpias y espaciosas.Comí algunas comidas, el langostino y el linguini de salmón estaban deliciosos y el desayuno muy encantador. Me alojé aquí por 4 noches mientras asistía a un curso de capacitación en una empresa local. El alojamiento era bueno, pero el restaurante y el bar estaban lejos de ser buenos. La primera noche la cerveza que pedimos estaba apagada, la mayoría del vino de la lista no estaba disponible, el vino que pedimos no podíamos abrir. Una vez abierto, no se podía beber. La comida estaba bienLa segunda noche cenamos, el servicio era deficiente. Pedimos que la cerveza embotellada fuera segura, pero el personal no abrió. Las mesas no se despejaron y el desierto tardó casi 45 minutos en llegar.La noche final fue bastante buena.

We ate in the hotel on the first evening of a 2 night stay. The food, a pizza, macaroni cheese and a ribs and wing starter all arrived at the same time, eventually. It was disappointing so we ate out the next night.

Celebramos el cumpleaños de nuestras hijas amigas en el Quality Hotel, que es su nuevo nombre. Teníamos una sala de eventos privada que mantenía a todos los asistentes a la fiesta juntos, el único problema era el volumen de la discoteca que a veces era ensordecedor. El Buffett era excelente, que tenía una buena selección y seguía siendo reemplazado por productos frescos.

Éramos 6 mujeres celebrando una reunión. Todos elegimos diferentes comidas del menú y todos estaban deliciosos. El servicio fue profesional y amable. Todos estuvimos de acuerdo en que fue excelente. Pasamos la noche en el hotel. Fantástico precio. Habitaciones limpias y baños recién equipados. El desayuno estaba preparado a pedido y nuevamente, excelente. Gracias a todo el personal por hacer que nuestra reunión fuera tan agradable.

Went on a tribute night and a good three course meal and the entertainment was good. We stayed over night in a large clean room. The breakfast was good. All the staff were friendly and helpfull.

It is with a sad heart I write what is the most negative review I have ever written about a hotel and restaurant we have used for many years,

Firstly, it is necessary to say that we enjoyed the food. We ate in the 1806 Brasserie and had starters and mains off of the Specials menu, and they were very good. However, the chef is being badly let down by the management team.

Not sure why I stay here, guess it’s close to the family home, tonight was as bad as expected, local junior football team hired a room for the annual awards etc, kids running riot all over the bar and restaurant, staff too scared to say anything, parents simply getting pissed without a care, this place is budget, says so in the title, attracts the skint, and you know what comes with that, no manners, no consideration to others, pure scum. That’s just the start, waitresses as clumsy and carefree as ever, waited ages for order to be taken, food took an age to come, never asked if I wanted anything, asked for a beer, never took the empties. Table full of glasses and plates by end of night, waitresses all stood talking, boss came out and gave them a telling off. Overall, it’s a shambles, not great to be there, and tbh I need to find another place to stay as there’s just shouting and fighting outside every time there’s a party or function on, the low level people get drunk and fight in car park all the time. It’s as rough as it comes.

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely. We had a really big room, with jacuzzi bath.

Sólo puedo decir cosas buenas de nuestra comida. La comida y el servicio eran excelentes. Nada era demasiado problema. El personal muy amable y eficiente de guardia. Se ordenó una gran variedad de comidas y todos disfrutaron de lo que tenían. No hay quejas de ningún tipo. El servicio era un poco lento, pero es de esperar que no haya pedido nada por adelantado. No me sentí apurado ni presionado de ninguna manera y todos tuvieron una experiencia fantástica. Bien hecho staindrop xx definitivamente recomendará a otros xx

Lovely place very relaxing, good menu well presented tasty food. Enjoyable place for lunch. We had a small baby with us and they were good about food and bottle warming.

The food itself was great but we unfortunately had a vegan restaurant who felt the need to force her vegan views on us. Enough so that we will probably not return. Nothing on the chefs but can't deal with someone making me feel guilty about not agreeing her.

Went for meal with my family on Sunday lunch there was 11 of us when booked asked for high chair when got there no high chair had to ask again food was a long time coming for both starters and mains when came food was ok but no bread for soup which was on menu had to ask for some mains were fine except everything was on plate together ie veg pots meat gravy might be better to serve veg /pots sep so you can eat what you want also could do with being a little hotter maybe because all served together when asked for bill never came asked again never came asked again it came price was fine for what we had when looked around all staff were very young except for one women who seemed stressed taking care of them all pehaps could do with some more experienced staff on I know easier said than done these days with wages etc but will still come again in due course

Absolutely love this place. The food is always to very high standard. I struggle to chose what to have as I must have tried everything that’s on the menu and love it all! Their specials are fantastic too. Staff lovely- they cannot do enough for you! So if you’re in the area make sure you come in for a meal and some drinks. You will love it!

Well what can I say about this amazing Hotel been coming here for meals since. 2010 An not had a bad meal yet the service is 100% all the staff who run this particularly Rachael an Ryan on management who always make sure the customers happy at all times well done you two had a fantastic meal sat 5th Jan An can't wait to return again soon Sue foster x

Visited the restaurant other night, was busy but not chocka, food was cooked well, and good value for money,waitresses are just young girls, rushing around doing there’re best between themselves, it it seemed to be the manageress that spoilt our evening Rachel from memory, disorganised,disrespectful to both staff and customers, no customer skills what’s so ever, quality hotel .. ?. Should employ quality managers first, staff are just kids, but the manager should be ashamed of herself, bad attitude and shouldn’t lose her temper in front of the staff and customers, whole restaurant seemed embarrassed with her language and bad temper, she was even slating her manager in front of guests , saying stuff that should really be kept in the office, not in the restaurant. Any way it all led to very disappointing night, spoilt by a bad mouthed manager, who it turns out does tend to stick the knife in a lot of backs, so I heard ... amongst other things... tut tut.., over heard she got another manager fired not so long ago, hope management see this and take appropriate action, hopefully on my next visit, a new manager will have been appointed. Quality Hotel... your staff let you down tonight !

Twee avonden achter elkaar hier gegeten. Eerste avond meer dan verdienstelijk, prima bruschetta en heerlijke pasta, tweede avond mixed grill, dat was geen aanrader. Entourage beetje oudbollig, personeel vriendelijk. Bar erg ongezellig.

Came for afternoon tea on thursday the 18th october with my 2 year old, my mum and my husband's nan, and will definately be back again!! Food was delicious and the lovely lady that was looking after us was so friendly and polite, will definatly be vack for afternoon tea again :)

Primera comida desde que el Staindrop cambió a The Quality Hotel. Vivimos localmente y visitamos el restaurante un par de veces al año para comidas familiares. Visitamos el 20. 10. 18 para una familia de 15. Solo dos personas disfrutaron de su comida y eran los niños que tenían nuggets para niños. Todos los 13 adultos dijeron que la comida era pobre y por debajo del promedio. Hay mucho mejores lugares locales para comer. No volveremos por comida otra vez.

Please note I write this as I’m still sat in the restaurant having eaten most of my food but having not been checked in with since receiving it, which hasn’t given me the chance to say it’s pretty sub par.

Me and my partner decided to book Staindrop Lodge for an overnight stay for our anniversary. We don't live far away from the place but we decided to book for a nice night away.

Pleasant evening with a good table and good service. Very enjoyable meal in a nice restaurant. Car parking was easy and the overall atmosphere was relaxing.

Been here before but not for a long time. Really disappointed at food this time and will not be back. Maybe we picked a bad day but it was was nearly empty- got a feeling I know why! Only positive was that waitress was very friendly and nice to talk to Sorry

I had heard of Staindrop Lodge over the last year or two as a good place to eat. I booked a table for a special birthday venue for my wife and I.

I have been using Staindrop for a while for meetings in an evening. From the outside it looks good but to be honest the atmosphere and the prices do not match. Very bland atmosphere, normally TV on in bar which can be noisy. Staff seem split between several areas so even when dead (which it seems to be in the week) you can still wait to be served.

Nice menu cold restaurant very very loud customers and very inattentive staff all made for a very average night out won't be rushing back . The room is so echoing that we had to move to a different part of the bar out of the restaurant as it had a very loud party of people the staff nice as they are are not checking if all is well etc more drinks etc

We had the conservatory for my birthday party with 24 guests. The venue was brilliant as it was a lovely day and the guests where able to sit outside. We had a buffet and everything was lovely something to suit everyone's tastebuds. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking for somewhere to hold a party.

Llegó recientemente para un té de trabajo, la última vez fue hace unos años y recuerdo que no es el mejor. Esta vez tuve un plato de pescado y especialidades del menú risotto con patatas fritas de cerdo desmenuzado. Las patatas fritas eran un poco seca pero el pescado y risotto eran realmente buenos. Panna Cotta para budín tenía que también era delicioso. La mayoría de nuestro grupo había hamburguesas y todos realmente disfrutamos de ellos.

We live near this restaurant so visit it frequently, it has a relaxed atmosphere which is nice, the food is usually lovely too (had a couple of bad meals) BUT overall the amount of times we have been and the food was great. The menu does change quite often and its good to have something different when the chefs follow the seasonal produce and opt for locally sourced food. Although at times the service is a little slow if you don't mind that then I would defo give this place a go!

We booked afternoon tea for a friends 50th BIrthday. Booked with Rachel she'd organised a table in the conservatory , with side table for our flowers and presents and decorations. Nothing was too much trouble.We ordered the ploughmans afternoon tea, lovely unusual twist on an afternoon tea. Service first class , had a lovely , chilled out afternoon....thank you.

We booked the champagne stay over from a recommendation and decided to extend our stay , what a fabulous place we had an executive room ,very spacious clean and warm with jacuzzi bath all the staff are very friendly, the bar is great and the food is just fantastic the evening meals and breakfast all piping hot and very good selection , will definately be coming again , very handy for Meadowhall as well and the Peak District

Booked a table for 16 for a 40th birthday. Very plush looking place. We were seated in the conservatory which was lovely. Unfortunately although 16 meals were ordered only 15 arrived. They did offer to cook the missed meal but the offer was declined as everyone else would have finished eating by he time it was served, they gave him a complimentary pint and everyone else shared their meals with him. Service wasn't very good no one came round regular. Food was ok, everyone enjoyed their starters but my husband had linguine with sea bass which he said was very bland. I had the duck and Hoi sin wraps there was plenty but again not very tasty. Drinks enjoyable.

Went Saturday with with friends. The pub are was full - really nice atmosphere and almost a city centre style but very friendly. We had booked a table. Two if us had the pheasant starter which was superb. The ladies order manis only. Fish and Chip and Stuffed chicken. My pal had monkfish and I had brisket.The mains were accompanied by a steamed vegetables. Lovely!!The fish and chips were whale sized and my wife said her chicken was great too. The brisket was superb and tender and my pal reported the monkfish equally superb.Good sized portions means that you need to be hungry to have starter and sweet too. Bill came to £80 with a bottle of house red. Good value.Service was a tad slow but the place was heaving. Nothing to really moan about though so do onto et that put you off.Good parking outside. Friendly staff so why not give it a try.Recommended .

We had a 3-course meal as part of the Champagne stayover.I had the prawn and chorizo starter and the beef and ale pie for main whilst my partner had ribs and bangers and mash. We both had an offer of a type of sundae for dessert as part of a fund raiser the hotel currently has for a member of staff. The food was delicious and there was no scrimping on portions either! We couldn't finish our mains, unfortunately, so was wondering about dessert. Well, our lovely waitress asked if we'd like the dessert later. She offered to bring it to our room an hour later. And an hour later that's just what happened.I can't fault the service. Checking we were ok without being overly annoying by coming to the table every 5 minutes, but being observant enough to know if we needed tending to. This place would be worth a visit for a meal even if not staying at the hotel. We will be back. Thank you.

We've visited here many times and very rarely had a bad meal. On this occasion we went with our son for our anniversary. My son & I shared nachos to start with and these were great ( I don't normally order these when I go out because they're usually so bad but not in this case). My husband had a mixed grill which he really enjoyed and I had the (now legendary) fish & chips.....the fish is huge and so tasty. Our son ordered a pizza from the children's menu, it was as big an adult pizza so if you've got kids that don't each much I'd get one to share. The only thing that wasn't as good as it normally is was the service, the guy that 'showed' us to our table just pointed vaguely down the restaurant at empty tables and said there was a table down there so we just sat down anywhere we fancied. The waiting staff weren't much better, none of them seemed bothered which is a shame because normally they are so lovely. We had a bottle of wine with the meal & a couple of other drinks & the bill came to just over £80.

We enjoyed a meal out with 10 others at the start of December and the food was great. Ate in the brasserie and enjoyed a range of meals including a great selection of starters. Food is mid priced but drinks could be cheaper.

Visited here for Sunday dinner. The menu is varied and has a good selection of vegetarian options. The roast beef was good, cooked well and not at all dry vegetables were fresh and cooked well. The vegan curry was very tasty though I was slightly disappointed there wasn't a vegan/vegetarian roast on the menu. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious! Wine menu looked good though we didn't partake, would be nice if they had a few craft ales though. Decor is a little bare but the walls are filled with good prints. Price was reasonable for the food. Will defiantly go back

Booked last minute early evening on a Saturday not expecting any availability. Surprisingly restaurant really quiet at that time, therefore not a buzzing atmosphere. However, food did not disappoint, really delicious. The waitresses are quite young which may put some older people off but are really attentive and we could not fault our evening. Will be returning.

We didn't book and there was already a large party in as well as other smaller groups when we arrived. Friendly staff showed us to a choice of tables and brought us menus and asked if we required drinks whilst we decided on our food. Food was excellent. A wide range available and also a good wine list. Very, very pleasant evening was had by all.

A group of us, 24, went to the Staindrop Lodge for a Christmas lunch and we all enjoyed the meal very much. In fact we are going back again in December this year. We all chose something different from the Christmas menu.

Very good food and a lot of choice with friendly personel. Only the goat cheese starter did not have a lot of goat chees test.

The meals are always top quality and have a weekly changing specials menu and the staff will describe them to you or advise on size etc. There is the standard menu on all the time and in relation the meals they are all top quality and very tasty and filling. I always have a top quality meal here.

A Lovely lunch for us both including good portions for my always hungry partner and lovely fresh food with fast service.

Although it was a Saturday night and the place was very busy the staff still made the extra effort to accommodate everyone. I had invited some friends round to join my for dinner and we all had a wonderful evening.

Came here for a work celebration and I was really impressed with the food, the attentive staff and great service. I couldn't really fault the venue and I would recommend the steak and ale pie, delicious!

We visit here most Sunday's for lunch, staff are welcome, well mannered & polite. The lunch is always very very nice! Lovley place!

The venue is excellent. I have been a few times now for eating. The food is excellent. Not cheap but good value for money. The function room is small for the disco, but it is alright

Lovely food good prices all well enjoyed. Waitress had recommended the beef which was very good. Good beer to boot.

Went for a beer and bite to eat good choice of specials on we settled for beef in large yorkshire pudding creamy mash and gravy also lamb inyorkshire pudding gravy etc both dishes very good piping hot good sevice good size portion plenty beef & lamb really tasty as well good value at £8 each will come again

We have been to this restaurant several times so I though I must review it. The food and service is consistently good. That includes the paninis and the proper food. The puddings are always excellent and obviously home made. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for here.

We went for a Christmas lunch in December 2015 with 22 friends from a walking group. There was a good selection on the menu and everyone enjoyed their meals. We pre ordered our meals due to the number of us eating and it being close to Christmas. There were no complaints from anyone.

I don't normally leave reviews but just had to for this! We had our wedding at Staindrop on 29/05/16. From the whole planning process to me and the girls staying the night before, the wedding day and the day after, there was not one minute that wasn't perfect. Rachel the wedding planner was/is amazing at her job. I never felt stressed at all I knew she had it all under control and I felt so confident knowing she had everything in place for us. The day went so smoothly with no interruptions at all. Adam, Nicola and the hotel/bar and brasserie staff were fantastic and completely on the ball making sure they day went better than I could have imagined. Everyone who came commented on how beautiful it looked and most of them couldn't believe they hadn't heard of Staindrop before. A hidden treasure.THE FOOD WAS UNBELIEVABLE and we'll definitely be going back every year for our anniversary (possibly a few times in between!) We stayed in room 17, it felt luxurious and so spacious, I can't believe this is 'superior' room... there's better than that?! Everywhere is cleaned to such a high standard too, not a speck of dust or dirt in sight.To sum it up... if you are reading these reviews to help you decide if you want your wedding here or just a night away... DO IT! You will not be disappointed. Thank you Staindrop!

It was nice to see some more unusual choices on the menu along side the staple favourites - and breakfast offers a freshly cooked full English, as well as various egg options included eggs benedict and eggs Florentine - yummy.,

My lovely friends and family recently surprised me with a baby shower at the Staindrop Lodge. Firstly the booking was in the wrong date so the staff wasn't expecting our party. This was resolved however my for ends were made to feel an inconvenience due to a party coming in later in the afternoon and told we had to be gone by a certain time. We were told that someone would come to take our orders (15 of us in total) so that our meals arrived together. This did not happen and everyone ended up eating at staggered times, not great. 6 out of the 15 meals were wrong, by either being not as described on the menu (brucetta served as toasted French bread, no alternative offered and the customer had to ask for a refund after already paid at the bar) or just not good quality at all, for example 3 x dry chicken paninis when they should have also had mozzarella and pesto on. The waitressing staff were lovely and clearly very embarrassed by the situation and offered me a bottle of Prosecco (I'm almost 9 months pregnant) so I declined the kind offer but did ask if any of my party would like this and they said no due to driving. Instead of this a round of soft drinks were offered, only to the people whose meals were messed up baring in mind the whole party was inconvenienced. At this point my cousin who was in one of the first groups to order was still waiting on her meal to come out, after asking several times it arrived almost 20minutes behind her mum and sister who all ordered the same thing. I ordered one of the paninis which was totally dry so was sent back and ended up waiting a further 20minutes for mine to come back after it being sent back, therefore eating totally alone almost an hour behind the first people to get food. As a good will gesture the waitress brought out the bottle of Prosecco again in way of apology anyway. I was already quite annoyed at all the mishaps but didn't want to ruin the surprise baby shower my friends had gone to so much trouble to arrange I decided to take it further once I get home.That is exactly what I did, I emailed my complaint and concerns saying that the whole afternoon was basically a complete shambles and totally unacceptable that so many things should go wrong. The response I got from the General Manager Amy was appalling. She never once apologised in the entire email however went on to try and prove her point that I was wrong on all points. Even using exclamation marks to show her obvious annoyance. Apparently the 'brucetta' wasn't French bread / stick it was toasted panini bread which is also Italian .......... Either way it's still not brucetta as advertised though is it?! She then thought it appropriate to tell me that there was no complaints all night and that it was her top selling meal, totally unnecessary I didn't need or want to know that it was still wrong. She also told me that if I had issues I should have asked to speak to her on the day, if I was that concerned. I explained my reasons for this on a reply email and that I was shocked that she was in and aware of the issues we had throughout the entire afternoon and she never came to try and sort it out personally. However she instead sent frazzled and embarrassed your waitresses in her place which I didn't feel right getting into it with as it wasn't there fault. Her reply email was even more rude and totally out of order as I said that I was really disappointed with her rude response email and how she never once apologises for her to say to me that she ........ was DISAPPOINTED IN ME for not being happy with the drinks that were offered. To be honest I actually laughed at this response, how incredibly rude. I think this lady needs to go on a customer service course and learn how to deal with complaints, never mind a managerial course. My friends and I have been regular customers for years and the customer service alone has defiantly put me off going back again!!

We stayed in the hotel and had wonderful room and wonderful breakfast. Staff attentive and good attention to detail, Squeaky clean.

I dined for 2 nights in the Brasserie whilst in Sheffield. On both nights the food was excellent but the main course portions were just too big.For starter I had French Onion soup on the first night - a large bowl of very tasty and rich soup with some excellent (homemade?) bread on the side. On the second night I chose the Mushrooms in creamy sauce - again very tasty and rich and thoroughly enjoyed.For the main course I opted to have the centre cut sirloin for the first night. This was a massive piece of meat served on the plate with 3 large battered onions rings and chips in a pot. Alongside was a medley of fresh vegetable. Every part of the meal was good - the steak cooked to my liking and the vegetables firm and just al-dente. The best was the onion rings! - they were fantastic.On the second night I had the Salted Beef strips in Borgignon sauce (from the specials menu). This was served with mash in a large deep plate and asparagus over the top and again a side bowl of fresh vegetables. The asparagus was not at its best, with some woody stems). The other veg was perfect and the meat and sauce amazing. On both nights quite a few of the vegetables were left.I only had dessert on the first night, choosing the cheesecake from the specials menu. Very tasty and enjoyable.

After our annual board meeting we came up here for some food and as always it was great. Chose to sit in the restaurant and relax a little. Great service with great food.

I love Staindrop Lodge. I have been there on many occasions including Christmas Day which was fantastic. The food is so reasonably priced for its quality, service is swift and friendly and the restaurant itself is delightful. Its somewhere I go when I want a higher end restaurant feel but with the comfortable feeling of a cosy inn, it just feels right.

Food is always great though décor is rather stark and clinical. Reasonable price for food. Varied menu with good specials. Staff are friendly and service is good

A lovely evening with a group of 12 friends . We all had a wonderful meal if we had known would have skipped the starters as the size of the main course was large. The chefs certainly know their trade amazing food ! Service was efficient and descreet.Would recommend this restaurant for a meal or a celebration.
