We love the food and service here and they have so many vegan options. It's very relaxed and in a very central location. You can also sit and watch the world go by too. Prices are reasonable and you never have to wait long for your food. I tried the vegan garlic bread with cheese which I've never tried before and I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for such a lovely meal.

Came with some friends to do bottomless brunch for my 22nd Birthday and had an amazing time! From the moment we entered the restaurant the service was great, and throughout the 90 minutes we were there we were looked after so well! They made sure we got the most out of our time, and the food was also amazing! And you can't fault the 10% student discount. They were also very good with accommodating to any dietary requirements :)) would 100% recommend.

The service was absolutely flawless with the bottomless brunch! I have never been to a bottomless brunch who are so on it with orders. All drinks were enjoyable and the food was also great! We was the only ones having the bottomless brunch at the time so the atmosphere could have been better if more people were also on the bottomless brunch but otherwise it was great!

We were very hungry after spending the morning walking around the cathedral and we stumbled across this little place as my husband saw someone eating a tasty looking burger through the window. It was offering somewhere warm with a decent menu and boardgames to help yourself to. The staff were friendly but what let the place down was the food. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak burger, which was essentially loads of cheese and huge amounts of onion with very little steak. Very unpleasant. We also ordered some cheesy garlic bread, which they forgot and we had to ask for a couple of times. My husband ordered the bacon and egg pancakes which were at least edible. It was a disappointing choice to stop for lunch.

First off, this place DOES NOT ENCOURAGE TRACK AND TRACE. We were not asked for any details by the French server. In fact he was too preoccupied trying to roll himself a cigarette behind the counter to even pay us much attention initially. No explanation of how to order - these are strange times and recent new legislation can be confusing at the outset. Seemed to be a mixture of order and pay at the counter or order from the table. Food extremely uninspiring, both in presentation and substance. White sliced bread toast with a dollop of smashed avo, two lightly poached egg blobs, a couple of leaves and 3 slices of grilled halloumi (extra cost) just dumped on a plate does not constitute a pleasant visual experience. Cold and soulless place, partly as doors were wide open. Dogs are freely admitted, which is a definite no-no in an eating establishment (assistance animals of course are an exception) but not pet pooches. Would not recommend in any way - ecept to avoid.

Today we visited and was just left disappointed. The menu is varied and the food was well prepared - they were also accommodating in allowing us to swap items for a fussy child ... but the wait time was excessive... 25 minutes! The chef actually came out and called the restaurant phone to get a member of the wait teams attention.... then things were missing ... the female sever then used the customer toilets with her apron on which she then continued to serve in. Some basic training is required - urgently!

We went for food today. We ordered scrambled egg on toast and got scrambled egg on toast with salmon. A tuna mayo baguette, we got a cheese and tuna hot baguette. And two beef burgers one with just cheese and chips and one with chips and salad. Instead i got a burger and some chips, no salad or anything and the other got two burgers on one bap and some chips. Then they had a tiny bit of tomato sauce and ran out after one squirt. No one asked us how our food was or checked. After waiting for ages for the bill he just came with the card machine and didn’t ask us about our meal at all. Disappointed as we came over for two days from North Wales to see family. First meal in Canterbury and just feel very disappointed, was surprised as it was quite busy outside. Our food took 40 mins, and after the burgers and egg on toast was delivered it took several minutes for the sandwich as it seemed they had forgot to make it.

I chose here as I’ve not been in before and it looked nice. Good location for a bit of people watching. I have one day a week to myself and I like to have lunch on my own and sit and watch the world go buy. There are many, many lovely places in Canterbury to eat so I feel compelled to give feedback as competition in this industry is fierce. The menu looked lovely. I would happily have eaten anything on there. I chose the hummus on sourdough with avocado. It was ok. Very average. The piece of bread was thin and tiny. It needed 2 slices for almost £7. There was supposed to be some sort of pickle on top but it was missing. There was a small salad that accompanied it, spinach and tomato. That was the extent of it. The hot drinks were nice but and service was friendly. I overheard the table next to me complaining about the quality of their food. Looking at the reviews, it seems this was not a one off. I would hate to see this place close as it has so much potential.

I could write an essay about my terrible experience but hopefully the owners will get in touch and I’ll go into more details. But please, don’t make a special trip to this place. EVERYTHING was a disaster!!1. Staff - RUDE, uninterested, slow, used “the F word” in front of me and another customer who was about 10yrs old. Gave attitude when we complained about our food. 5 of them standing behind the counter talking and swearing whilst dirty dishes piled up and customers waited for coffees. (Bear in mind there were only 3 tables of 2 customers).2. Coffee - was ok3. Food - TERRIBLE!! The menu is great...that’s why we chose to go there. Food was awful. *Vegan bagel with vegan bacon...plate was dirty, bagel was hard and chewy at the same time and it looked like it was chucked together in a hurry. See pics. *Eggs Benedict - eggs were poached well, bacon was good but the sauce was disgusting. Tasted like they took a jar of English mustard, diluted it with a bit of water and poured it over. I complained and they made another...without mustard....this time it came out tasting like dishwater. HORRIBLE! And they clearly just took the same two poached eggs and reheated it in a pan. Both hardened and yolks broken when brought back to the table (with terrible attitude). See pics. I may as well have taken my £22 and chucked it in the bin.Highly disappointed!!

I love stag and I would like to love it more but they often seem understaffed, or don't have all the ingredients to make certain things. I think there should be a sign put on the door like "no pancakes today" or "cash only" because there have been a few times I've gone in and had to leave without getting what I wanted because they didn't have the means to produce it- and I understand that happens! When everything is running smoothly the food is delicious, the coffee is always great and I love the sweet treats. It's a real pity that the staff seem to be under so much pressure because they're all so lovely. It's not easy obviously but organisation could be better. I'm going to keep coming back because the staff are great and I do really enjoy it there.

Staff seemed stress which delayed our food. The jacket potato my daughter had was dried up and my husband saw the kitchen on the way to the toilet and said it was chaos and dirty. The staff had dirty uniforms on when the came out to serve the food to help the poor guy out who was run off his feet while one guy behind the bar did nothing. My husband also had a baked potato with tuna and mayonnaise and next day had stomach discomfort and diarrhoea ? the tuna had been sat around. The place seemed very popular and as a consequence, the kitchen staff ran out of food. I had the crushed avocado on toast with poached eggs which was ok and neither myself or my daughter were sick so wondered if it was the tuna. We were only in Canterbury for the day and this place was the only one that seemed to do baked potatoes so the search was not worth it!

I would love to support this local business but I have made 2 attempts at breakfast here. The 1st, the kitchen was closed and today having queued politely behind some tourists choosing sandwiches, they let me go ahead but the lady refused to serve me first! I live locally and have breakfast in town most weeks. What a shame you have now lost my business. Cote round the corner was great as ever and at £9.95, around half what I would have paid at Stag. The cafe is very empty and the site has seen 3 businesses close in the last couple of years. Stag will have to try a lot harder than this to survive.

Visited this morning for breakfast, nice venue but oh dear....breakfast for two at £25.00...after 10 minutes a shout across the restaurant 2 Teas! Obviously too much to bring it the table. After a further 45 minutes I asked for an update on our food, the waitress visited the kitchen and then told us the chef was trying to multitask!!!! He was busy with other tables and then a large table came in (6 people) infact there were only 2 other people in the restaurant when we ordered, the table of 6 arrived half an hour after us. But not to worry our breakfast would be another 6 minutes! Eventually after another 15 minutes the chef ran in to the restaurant and put our food on the counter, the waitress then delivered our food to the wrong table then picked it back up and put it on our table. The condiments were empty so we had to grab some from another table. I had the full breakfast however the baked beans needed stirring up to find some moisture having grown a crust where they had been hanging around for so long, the sausages were nearly cold but tough as over cooked, the bacon could have been snapped, the poached egg yolks were hard and the toast cold, hash browns and tomatoes ok. Never had a visit from the staff to see if “everything was OK”... Hence to say we won’t be returning.....

The menu is varied and modern. We chose the vegan breakfast, and it was good to see a wide variety of items included - even spinach. The vegan sausages were actually really tasty, even though we weren't sure about trying them. The 'tofu scrambled egg' was the same texture as real scrambled egg, but it tastes of nothing - not Stag's fault, it's just how it is - so if you're vegetarian, get real eggs with this breakfast. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic, if not all very experienced/well-trained. BUT this place needs a good clean: the floor was filthy, as were the walls, which is not pleasant. Also, the staff mostly don't seem very experienced - or maybe well-trained. They need to keep an eye out for customers who want attention, check all items come out on the plate (we were missing two items and had to ask), and wipe up thoroughly as soon as customers leave. We'll visit again for the modern veggie dishes - surprisingly rare in this part of Canterbury - but we really hope that the manager improves the cleaning standards/hygiene and maintenance before we make this a regular hangout.

Visited on Saturday 15th June, mid afternoon. On arrival weren't necessarily greeted but rather had members of staff stare at us until we spoke to them! that certainly is not 'customer service.' The bakery section looked sad and very dry so we decided to risk something off a menu (this was an expensive mistake). There was a 'breakfast' and 'brunch' menu both served at the same time which made it especially confusing. After ordering at the till with one member of staff, they then walked away so had to order again, of course no apology. One iced latte, a soft drink, one cheeseburger and a chicken chaser salad came to just under £30! unbelievable prices for the slop we were served. After a tray was shoved in our direction we found a table. Only once we had sat did we realise the place was filthy from top to bottom: food all over the floor, tables sticky, walls dirty. Yet the most astounding part was that the members of staff were chatting amongst themselves, walking in and out of the coffee shop aimlessly. At this point all we could do was stare out the window at the nice tearoom we should have visited. Once the food eventually arrived, the salad dressing tasted like water, the burger would've been nicer if it had come from mcdonalds, and the salad croutons drenched in oil (see photo) plates were gracefully thrown down on the table with no offer of sauces and at no point did anyone check our meal (neither plate was finished)All I can recommend is for visitors to walk straight past Stag into the other, nicer tearooms.

The salmon and cream cheese tart took a long time (I had to ask where my order was, so suspect they forgot). What arrived was a very bland quiche, no salmon! The explanation that this was a new branch with untested suppliers didn’t sound convincing. Been to Stag a few times now and the food is absolutely gorgeous. Their vegan bacon butty always makes my day, I’m really happy I am able to have this ultimate hungover cure in my life again. Especially with their own made vegan mayo it’s something I am really looking forward to every time we go. Priced at 3.50 it’s the same price you normally pay for a vegan sandwich at Tesco and M&S so that’s also great. Their vegan carrot cake is also something. Absolutely crazy how they make it so good. Also, somewhere in the comments I read that their coffee is burnt, but as a barista myself I genuinely enjoy their coffee. It’s not necessarily the best in town, I mean there’s like three cafes with own roasters down the road. But it is still good quality. The only issue, really, is that staff doesn’t seem to communicate effectively. It is a bit chaotic, a bit more of a system would definitely help. Overall I really enjoy this place though. I see this place every day on my way to work, everyday I looked in and saw what looked like great food and a lovely alternative cafe. We decided to visit for Sunday brunch (something all cafes want to get right and have a market for!). After reading through the menu and finding several things I would have loved to try I decided on scrambled egg on toast. Simple but often done very well.We waited a little over half an hour for our food to come out of the kitchen and when it arrived I was instantly disappointed. The presentation was awful, my scrambled egg was bouncy and stone cold. My toast was completely black, I have no idea how the chef thought it was appropriate to serve such burnt toast! The scrambled egg also tasted of absolutely nothing. I was incredibly disappointed with my food and even more annoyed I waited so long. The chef came out with a blue food handling glove on holding peoples food. It was incredibly unprofessional and unhygienic, he was also looked a little scruffy to say the least. After attempting to take people’s food to the wrong table several times he gave up and threw it down on the front counter, it came across incredibly aggressive and as though he had given up on customer service altogether. However the chocolate milkshake I had was lovely. The decor inside is also lovely as are the waiters and waitresses.

Came in for lunch on a bank holiday Monday. They were understaffed due to sickness which was fair but it all went down from there really. Because they were understaffed; tables were not cleared and cleaned after guests left and there were stacks of dirty crockery, plates and cutlery over the counter. The food took ages between ordering and being served, my partner had a burger which he enjoyed; but mine was only warm so not as enjoyable. When I went to the toilet; as I walked past the kitchen the piles of dirty crockery continued in there on all the surfaces and on the floor. And then when in the toilet; it didn’t lock, so I had to use the facilities whilst holding onto the door. All of the above I can forgive because they were understaffed (bar the toilet door). But what comes next is no excuse regardless of staff availability. The waitress; polite when talking to you, but regularly had her phone out, phoning and texting people- plus this was on loud so it could be heard every time someone contacted her. Both the members of staff (the waitress and another waiter) looked miserable with faces of thunder, so they were coming across as unapproachable, however; when you did ask them something they were both polite. The Stag also had maintenance going on during service hours. A guy was drilling holes into the wall to hang up menu boards. Which whilst you’re eating isn’t a pleasant sound, nor do I appreciate brick dust in my food. And when he was asked by the staff to stop he seemed put out. If I was going to visit this place again- leave it a few more weeks until they’re properly up and running (with no drills in sight) and make sure they’re properly staffed.

The Beaney Cafe is spacious with high ceilings and probably a good place to meet with friends if you are a little bit unsure about meeting in a public place at the moment. The Earl Grey Cake was absolutely delicious and the staff, as always, are very obliging and friendly. Definitely recommend this as a place to meet with friends during this Coronovirus situation, as long as they stay open!

Had a nice bacon baguette really nice good price but feel ripped of paying £3 for supposed American pancakes turns out they are mini ones with syrup, kind of feel I got ripped of there.

Nice ambience and friendly staff. Bagels..... But little else on offer. That said my crushed avocado 🥑 and smoked salmon was spot on. It just needs a menu that offers more variety..... Quiches, Homemade Soups would be great additions. Located in The Old Town Hall. Fully Licensed and Coffee/Cake for afters.
