Stable bar in East Hertfordshire

I went to the Stable Bar with my family for a meal yesterday 27th October 2024, we’ve been going there on a Sunday for a while now, when my daughter went to order our food she was told that there was no longer any hot food available, we decided to try the only food that was available which turned out to be very expensive for the amount of food there was, at no point were we asked if we were happy with our meal and when we asked for three plates we were given two plates and a saucer, this was definitely not the experience we expected to receive and sadly we will not be returning.

Where do I start as we just liked everything! Beautiful stable bar at a beautiful farm not far from London- half an hour away ! Honestly, it’s been one of the most enjoyable and pleasant experiences we have had especially since we have had a baby- we were welcomed by lovely staff, the food was delicious and it just felt so cozy - we can’t wait to be back :) If I could give them 10/10 I would! 🌟

Visited today around 5.30pm and the young lady called Savvi was rushed off her feet but still made us feel so welcome..she was working alone and running between taking orders and serving ...she definitely deserves recognition for her outstanding service and smile ❤

Waited 35 minutes today for two takeaway coffees. Went to the bar as directed by the sign outside to be repeatedly ignored by the staff. When asked if anyone was serving I was told I would be when the table orders were taken (they arrived after me). When my order was finally taken I was told I must wait outside and they would be brought out. Given it was only 3 degrees this was less than ideal. 15 minutes later, I went back in to chase up the order to find the coffees had been left on the bar and were now going cold! Two flat whites came to £7.40 and I’ve had better coffee at McDonalds. Ignorant staff, overpriced produce and low quality means I won’t be back and can’t advise anyone else to go.

We visited The Stable on Friday evening. Our waiter/bartender made some of the best cocktails we've ever had! I had a Mai Tai and my partner had a Zombie (both excellent "off-menu" suggestions) which were delicious. We also had an extremely well-made Passion Fruit Martini and Long Island Iced Tea. Absolutely excellent evening, drinks, and food.

I wanted to give myself some time to write this review because I can't stand reading peoples' vitriol online when I'm trying to assess if a place is worth visiting, so I'll try and keep this as objective as I can. I enjoyed visiting The Stable on the quieter nights during the week and had been impressed with the setting and service, so decided to see what it was like on a Friday night, expecting a bit more of a buzz. The short story is; I waited 30 minutes for my seat to become available; I was seated at a sofa rather than a table despite booking for food; both my side order and main course were incorrect, and; I waited over 20 minutes for a pint despite the venue being less than half full. It's also worth noting that on arrival and departure, I came across two separate groups complaining about similar issues. Having had such lovely evenings here during the week, I confess I was utterly disappointed with my most recent visit and wouldn't return if someone paid me. It may still be worth a visit if you're thinking of a quiet midweek drink, but I'd caution against making this a spot for food or drink over the weekend. I raised the issue regarding the food at the time, but didn't feel able to provide all of this feedback on the night as I wanted some time to digest. However, in the interests of fairness I'll also be passing this along to the venue staff (who may actually be able to action it).

Delicious food & cocktails, outstanding service, and lovely live music on the weekends. This place is such a gem. Always feel very relaxed and at home here. Xavia is always really friendly and welcoming and goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is catered for
