Came at 5.45pm before seeing St Maud at live theatre next door (excellent btw) and it was heaving. They say they welcome walk ins but we saw people being turned away so best to book at popular times. Very very loud and close to other guests. The server explained specials to our table and one next to us and good job I already knew what I wanted as I only heard about 1 word in 10!! He chose hake with chorizo piperade and I had monkfish with caponata and shared some garlic and rosemary roasties. Good sized portions and delicious. Plenty of different wines and some beers/lagers.

One of the finest restaurants in Newcastle. This comes from a fussy foodie. Cannot fault it: food served freshly made, hot and menu is interesting and varies. Extensive black board menu too. The stuff is very knowledgeable on a deeper level compare to the most restaurants in town. Chic, night life vibes buzzing with laughter and good music.

The food was really unique. Had the scallops which were huge and beautifully meaty and cooked in tasty butter. The guinea fowl was quite amazing. Tasty jus and large portion of the fowl. This type of cooking is unique to this kitchen. The fondant was also superb. The service team were great and efficient. The manager was very accommodating even though on a Saturday evening packed restaurant without booking he went out of his way to accommodate. Broad char next door had my booking but refused to take me earlier even though they had empty tables. It was fortuitous we had been recommended St Vincent’s as a better place and was next door.

Tables are on top of each other - like cattle. Extremely cramped, never seen anything like it in terms of table covers. Struggled to have a conversation without others listening/talking. Food was soaked in oil dripping down the plates. Paid £50 for a bottle of white and it tasted awful. Barely any service and when we interacted with the staff, they were clueless about the specials. Restaurant was also pitch black inside on the night we visited - designed to probably avoid you seeing the oil soaked dishes. Starters were overcooked - we sent back. Wouldn’t waste your time going.

Exceptional in every sense. The staff are so passionate about hospitality and their produce, which makes for an amazing experience. The decor/ambience is perfect and the wine and food are second to none. My partner and I shared baked oysters, monkfish tail with zucchini frites and spinach florentine. I'd go so far to say that it was nothing short of exceptional. They have raised the bar for restaurants in Newcastle.

Booked for dinner on Friday. A last minute change of plan meant we had to ask if we could bring the time forward. Matt was very helpful and had us sorted and confirmed electronically within minutes. There’s a really good feeling about this place, good atmosphere, stylish without being pretentious and considering that it is busy, very good service, particularly from Anna, with a real smile. There’s a modern style menu allowing you to go for different combinations that suit your appetite. We wanted to go for all fish so scallops, baked crab, hake and monkfish. Now here is a chef who really knows what they are doing! The flavours! Wow! Good portions too. We finished with the chocolate fondant and limoncello sorbet. The wine list is cracking, some excellent choices and prices to suit all budgets. If this place isn’t on your list, it should be!

I am so impressed with this place. Their use of local fresh ingredients is commendable. You will not find a better oyster than Lindisfarne fresh, served here with a delicious shallot dressing. I had 6 but could have devoured 12+ , simply delicious. The monkfish tail main was so good, cooked to perfection. The chocolate fondant desert was perfect. Someone here knows what they are doing. The wine list was superb and very reasonably priced, as was the whole meal. The service matched the food to make this an excellent dining experience. I cannot believe how reasonable the bill was. Delightful, professional and thoroughly enjoyable.

This restaurant was great! Visited on a Wednesday evening and it was quite busy and buzzing. Top notch service and the food was very special indeed. We only ended up in there by accident and didn't have loads to eat but it was by no means a disappointment. Every meal was well presented and generous in portion size. The wine was also very pleasant and good quality. All in all I would highly recommend.

I am not a person who is writing reviews My review is that I come back here weekly. The food is amazing but what makes the food even more great is the services provide by all people that work here. When you serve a good meal and the service is bad, the food is bad. In this case, the food is great and with the service provided is is even better, the food is even better. So when you ever want to go to a nice place with the most friendly people with the best service, go to St Vincent in Newcastle upon Tyne. The best!!!

Wonderful place, I went as a single diner as I’m on a business trip, just wanted to read and eat good food and this restaurant didn’t disappoint, atmosphere was brilliant for a Thursday evening, a lot of places tend to ignor you slightly as a single diner but this place did not at all. Lovely attentive polite staff and great food with a large selection of wine and champagne to pair with even on the open wine list. Service was quick even on a busy evening of large tables and staff are friendly and warm throughout the evening even though they were very busy, they never lacked in comfort. Had a starter main and dessert, with a white, red and a champagne, tartare that’s avocado whip stole the show, chops cooked pink to perfection and lemon sorbet matched with limoncello and Prosecco, what was crisp refreshing and one of the best I’ve had. all truly wonderful. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back when I’m back in town x

St Vincent is a cosy and charming wine bar that offers a variety of delicious dishes and drinks. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the service is attentive and professional. Whether you are looking for a quick bite, a romantic dinner, or a fun night out with friends, St Vincent has something for everyone. The menu features a selection of charcuterie, cheese, salads, and small plates that are perfect for sharing. The food is fresh, flavourful, and well-presented. Some of the highlights include the truffled macaroni cheese, the grilled monkfish tail, and the chocolate mousse. The portions are generous and satisfying, and the prices are reasonable. The wine list is impressive and diverse, with options from small, independent producers as well as classic regions. You can find wines by the glass, bottle, or carafe, and the staff are happy to help you choose the best pairings for your food. The cocktails are also well-made and inventive, and the vermouths and amaros are a nice touch. St Vincent is a hidden gem in Newcastle that deserves more recognition. It is a place where you can enjoy quality food and wine in a warm and welcoming setting. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves good food and good vibes.

Four of us had a leisurely pre-Live-Theatre lunch here. I hadn’t visited since it reopened post-Covid. Wow - we had an outstanding meal. The gentleman (manager?) who mainly served us was knowledgeable, personable and enhanced our experience. The sea bass carpaccio, monkfish Venetian style and blood orange/campari panacotta were all utterly delicious and perfectly judged. Wines were excellent. This is not a place for a quick dinner (unless you’re fairly wealthy) as the prices are on the steeper side, but like many of Terry Laybourne’s excellent restaurants, you’re paying for exceptional ingredients, treated with respect. Having said that, the fixed price menu was excellent value (but we were sadly tempted by the a la carte 😊). My only tiny grumble is that when we were served by others (a teenager), the service was mediocre at best. No interaction or pleasantries. I expect a little more when spending almost £100 a head. Happily it didn’t detract too much from what was a simply brilliant lunch. We will be back - thank you.

There's a saying in the customer service ore that nobody serving tonight will be familiar with, or care about and it's this: "Your brand is your reputation". Well, our last visit was a 5 star event (read previous review). We've told many of our friends and business associates. Tonight ,four of us, all senior directors of different Newcastle companies, chose what we thought was a favourite venue for an overdue catch up meal, during which we spent on excess of £400, all told. Here's what happened: We were rushed to our seats. While setttling in were rushed through the specials board. We were asked about eight times whether we were ready to order, when it was clear we were catching up and chatting. The just about post-teen waiting staff mumbled through the menu highlights, couldn't describe half the food. Our aperitif was a cloudy Prosecco, which was inadequately described by the server and tasted like soda water. It seemed that every moment we were mid-conversation the various bare-midriffed, bored waittresses would appear trying to chivvy us on. We ordered the £30 steak which was fatty and barely adequate. The fish was fine but needed the supplementary and expensive carbs and salads and the waitress forgot them. She never brought the bread we requested either. Throughout the meal we were being rushed and it became clear that the restaurant had booked our table out for a further sitting(frankly shouldn't have impacted us). The cheeseboard, at £19 was an absolute joke, a portion the French would have mocked, the cheesecake was shopbought and pitiful, with no sauce or cream and there was an audible groan when we asked for coffee. Last time we ate here the service was a differentiator. Tonight, they got the tone absolutely wrong. We all have post teens of our own. We spent very much of our hard-earned to have an experience and a relaxing evening, not to be insulted and made to feel like an inconvenience by a pack of kids younger than our own. Let's put some perspective on this. We spent over £100 a head to be insulted, rushed and served up sub-standard food by bored and charmless children. Is that your brand? Because, St Vincent, that is what you've become in our eyes. And we have many professional contacts. One of us is a writer and a service delivery specialists. A lot of people are going to hear about tonight...and not in a good way...and that's a real shame. PS - we would have complained tonight. But we know the staff would have cried "victim". Perhaps they will listen if it's in the only medium their generation seems to understand. Managers: get a grip and train your people properly. They're screwing up your business. We're pretty angry about tonight. You should be livid. From 5 stars to 1 in the space of a year. Ouch!

Wow, this place is an amazing in every aspect - the most delicious food, amazing drinks, great staff, and overall good vibe. We attended as a group of 6 for lunch, we started with cocktails, all of which were delicious. We ordered some off menu too eg margaritas which they were more than happy to do for us. There’s a massive selection of wine, which I initially found quite intimidating! But Matt was great, it helping us find a wine to suits our groups taste and budget, this was done in a really friendly and unpretentious way. We had the white Rioja which was delicious and pleased the whole group. For food we ordered a selection of plates to share, EVERYTHING we had was amazing and so tasty. I especially enjoyed the crispy oysters (cooked perfectly) , seabass crudo (so fresh) and ray wing (loved it with the brown butter) butternut squash pasta (it just melt in your mouth), and the burnt cheesecake (wow). Hats off to the chef! The service was great, every member of staff we came across was polite, helpful, friendly, and ensured we were well looked after. Overall, a great restaurant in every aspect!

What a fabulous night. We reserved dinner here before a night at the theatre and the wine list and cocktails hit the spot. Happened to mention to the waiting staff that the deep red paired very well with Belgian chocolate and, before we knew it, the manageress had popped down the street and bought a serving of handmade truffles for us to enjoy with the wine. The tasting board and tapas-stye dishes were to do for, artisan meats, cheeses and breads of the finest quality. Not cheap ,but then we don't mind paying for excellence. All in all, an exceptional dining experience and now right up there with Newcastle's atmospheric, gastronomic delights and service over and above, as it should be.

I’m baffled by the low rating amongst other restaurants in Newcastle for St Vincent, because it is quite superb. I’ve travelled a fair amount this year - South Africa, USA, France, Israel - and St Vincent provided us with the best meal we’ve had all year. Firstly, the room - it is trendy, comfortable and well laid out. There was a fantastic atmosphere on the Saturday night we went. Great welcome and they offered us an alternative table with no hesitation (our allotted table was right next to the front door - no thanks). Service by the three people we spoke to was faultless and good fun (the 20 minute wait for a drink was the only mild downer). But the food, oh my goodness, the food was exquisite. I have never had such incredible scallops. Three enormous king size from the Orkneys I think. Perfectly cooked and just amazing. I would go back just to have those again. Main was a wonderful monk fish, again perfectly cooked. Interesting wine list - a bit light on rose options but all reasonably priced. All in all, £85 a head including tip. An absolute bargain for the quality of everything. Our new favourite restaurant. Go!

Decided to pop in after the show at Live Theatre. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. We had a couple of cocktails each and a sharing plate. I could have almost drank the olive oil on its own, but with sourdough...

We called in for drinks after hearing that St V had reopened. The wine selection is excellent, as before.. The food we saw coming out looked and smelled delicious. It was busy and buzzy So we look forward to returning on another day

Must admit I'm not too keen on the options on the food menu, but this place is my favourite destination in Newcastle for wine. Brilliant selection of wines by the glass!

Visited as a larger group including children - the restaurant doesn't seem overly set up for children. The food was pretty good though - croque monsieur was good, but a little too mustardy. Macaroni cheese with black truffles and the butternut squash with spicy yoghurt,...

I enjoyed the food and the restaurant has a good atmosphere but thought the the circular, cafe-style table that we were sitting at was too small for the small plates concept (the table was cluttered).

St Vincent is a relative newcomer to Newcastle's Quayside restaurant scene with its high end tapas style menu and intriguing Italian-influenced dishes. I really wanted to love this place as I was a big fan of its predecessor, Caffe Vivo. Owner Terry Laybourne has a...

Discovered this in restaurant week. Very busy and had to wait but they said that’s not normal. Couldn’t fault service. Food absolutely delicious. Prices what you would expect In a good restaurant. High step to get in although you can get in from live theatre if that is a problem.

Dined here for restaurant week as part of a group and loved it. Staff were lovely, service great, food delicious and wine fine!I opted for the Chablis which was a great choice. If there’s something particular you like and just want a glass the staff are quite helpful to accommodate. My favourite of the dishes was the mussels, butternut squash and the broccoli with pecorino. I’ll definitely be back!4 small plates for £15 was good value.

Things probably didn't start well due to a group of smokers right outside the entrance to the restaurant - It would've been good to see a member of staff ask them to move round the corner away from people walking into the restaurant. That kind of put a dampener on things immediately. The food, while some of the dishes were really tasty, some were a bit bland - the mussels in particular didn't really impress and that was probably the dish I was most looking forward to. I don't know whether it was just my ignorance but we ordered 4 small plates each and I ended up with two before my partner had been given one of hers... then both of our chips came out last out of all the dishes. Just seemed a bit messy and unorganised where you'd think a bit of common sense would be applied to which dishes you serve first. For our desert we had tiramisu and we both felt like that probably saved the meal. The service throughout was good - can't really complain about the waiting staff. It was a busy evening and can only imagine how stressful it can be with a busy restaurant. The wine was expensive, but was very nice. I think the cheapest bottle I saw on the menu was £25 and that seemed a bit extortionate.Didn't really feel that it was fair to put a compulsory 10% service charge on the bill. That seems like a bit of a dated practice and when reading through other reviews to find that only a small portion of that goes to the waiting staff, it feels a bit unfair. We've been following the restaurant for a while and been meaning to book for ages but it ended up falling a bit short of our expectations. I don't feel like we'd go back unless it was with a bigger group and with a bit more knowledge of the menu and the best way to order plates suited to who you're dining with - Veggie/Meat eater etc.

We had a light lunch / brunch on Sunday, very impressed with the standard of the food which came out. Enormous selection of wines by the bottle, plus about 20 bottles open for wine by the glass ( and I think this changes). Nice cocktail selection too. But while we we there we saw people having a cake and coffee - it's that sort of place. Choose what you like, it's very chilled

A little on the pricey side but fantastic wine and food. The wine list is sensational and the staff are knowledgeable. Dining is tapas style and is delicious. The service could do with a little improvement as our glasses spent a lot of time empty. They could have sold us 2 more large glasses of wine each if they'd been more on it.

Because a couple of bottles of Malbec is never enough for 4 people on a night out we visited 21s sister establishment after a great meal at 21. Interesting range of wines- see photo , another classy venue like 21- music didn’t drown out conversation and attracts right clientele.

Love this place. First class service, prices reasonable compared to other highly overrated restaurants on the quayside. The ambience is something else.

The ambiance of the restaurant was charming and inviting, providing the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply craving authentic Italian cuisine, Bella Italia is sure to exceed your expectations. I can't wait to return and indulge in more culinary delights served with such exemplary service. Highly recommended!

Have been coming here on/off for months. The food is really good. There is however, often a long wait for it, partly due to things being cooked to order and possibly because there's only one member of staff taking orders and managing the bar. Fine if there's one or two tables in, but not if it gets busier. Not sure if the staff/client ratio changes later in the evening as always go early.
