The owners were kind and hospitable, especially as we were running late for our one night stay. Wonderful period property resplendent in traditional features and decor. Spacious and clean throughout. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast delicious. Large car park. Overall very impressive and reasonably priced. Our first visit and it won't be the last.

Sunday family anniversary lunch was absolutely marvellous from start to finish. The owners could not have been more welcoming and accommodating.Food was delicious and plentiful. Such personal service made a special occasion even better. 3 of our party were vegetarian and ate a delicious choice of options also. Your waiting staff were also lovely and efficient. Such a beautiful old building with many original features. Clearly the gardens are also a passion as they are well kept and a pleasure to be in . Thank you both for making our day such a pleasure.

We arrived after a harrowing journey from the Kent coast, travelling through rain, rain, and more rain. Excellent car park, very large with plenty of space. Once indoors we were warmly welcomed by the owner who quickly checked us in and led us to our room. The room was much larger than we had imagined, it was very comfortable and well maintained. The bathroom was huge with a lovely corner bath and shower. Despite being close to the busy main road we had a very peaceful stay thanks to the effective double glazed windows. Breakfast was informal and extensive, there was something for everybody, fruit juices, fresh fruit, cereals, and of course the staple fried breakfast items. We both had a full English breakfast served with brown toast and we left feeling well fed. We can highly recommend a stay at this charming Georgian house with pleasant friendly owners who seek to please and have a genuine interest in your total satisfaction. We would definitely stay again.

We were a large party including children and we were given our own large wonderfully-decorated room. From the get-go we were looked after and enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch followed by big helpings of puddings. The chocolate sponge stole the show and my son asked for seconds which the staff were more than happy to get for him. Veg was cooked perfectly and the gravy (and I do not say this for a lot of restaurants) was delicious, only second to my mums! Also got a generous amount of meat, which some places can be stingey with! Recommend and will be back 👍🏻

Because there was a party of 16 of us they kindly gave us a room of our own with a wonderfully laid table . We had Sunday lunch and it was all lovely, excellent meats with Yorkshires and stuffing and a great choice of fresh vegetables and really good gravy. The deserts were a perfect finish to a wonderful meal. With really friendly polite staff/management attending us. Will definitely be visiting for Sunday lunch again soon.

Dined here over the weekend for my dad and stepmums wedding reception meal and I was blown away. The food was gorgeous and the portion sizes extremely generous. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. The grounds and the house itself is just beautiful and not to mention they have the sweetest, most friendly dog in the entire world. Did not stay here myself but other wedding guests did and had nothing but positives to say. Would recommend to anyone thinking of coming here. Thank you so much for helping make my dad and Karen’s day so perfect.

We stayed here together as a family of three as we were in the area for my auntys wedding and needed somewhere to stay. My aunty used this place as a venue for her lunch wedding meal. The food was good , tasty and good portions aswell and catered for vegans. Drinks were brought for the party by the bride and groom and were very reasonably priced. Whilst staying here as overnight guests we had a good cooked breakfast every morning , staff were polite and helpful and our room was spacious clean aswell as the bathroom which was a big size and clean. Would definitely stay again !

Exceptional. Exceeded all expectations.

We stayed two nights and held a small wake for a family member here. The room was spacious, bed comfortable and facilities good.Breakfast was excellent as was evening meal. They catered for the wake perfectly and they couldn't have been more helpful.

Really nice location, grade 2 listed 18th century Georgian manor house. Complete with lovely surroundings, garden, huge carpark. Rooms were spacious and beds very comfy (suitable for little ones also). Breakfast included in the price as was fresh and very tasty. Would definitely stay here again .

Popped in for Sunday lunch, having just moved in up the road in Campains Lane. What a lovely visit. The food was top notch, proper home cooking. The beef was delicious. The house is beuatiflly kept and the staff & owner could not be more pleasant and accomodating. We will be back very soon.

Having been lucky enough to stay in some lovely places, I have to say this one was of the better ones, from the moment we arrived we started to feel comfortable and at ease, we stayed in one of the suites, which although upstairs should not put you off if you have dodgy legs like mine. The room itself was spacious and spotlessly clean as was the en-suite bathroom. I have to say the bed was probably even better than our own which we love. Respectable times for breakfast which was everything you could have wished for. A lovely stay in an amazing house thank you so much for the pleasure Gill and Ken Challans

We booked very late on during the afternoon for a quick stay over night to break our journey, and we honestly couldn't have been more pleased! We were so impressed with the style of the guest house, the meet and greet was very warm welcoming, a gorgeous Georgian house, with beautiful gardens, very clean and organised everywhere. We had a Very good nights sleep and an amazing breakfast. We will be back again and would highly recommend.

Emma and her whole family were the best hosts possible. We booked our wedding reception with very little notice wanting something private, friendly and reasonable. The room looked amazing, the food incredible, service was perfect. With lots of decision not made Emma’s support and eye for detail was impeccable. She knew exactly what we wanted before we did. I would definitely recommend this venue and trust the hosts to deliver what you want

Four of us went along for Sunday lunch on a recommendation from a friend, I cannot praise the food highly enough, and lively thick gravy, homemade Yorkshire pudding would have been the icing on the cake, but hey ho everything else was delicious, beautiful building which was spotlessly clean

What a beautiful house, warm welcome , rooms are amazing very spacious, huge bathroom, dining areas lovely, traditional fixtures, lovely gardens to sit in has a great bar and food menu, breakfast was amazing fabulous choice of food , cooked to order really good quality food, we stayed 1 night on way to Lowestoft and so glad we did, also managed to do some shopping at the outlet Springfield’s just down the road ! Annette and Paul fabulous hosts interesting stories about history of house etc thank you so much if in this area again will be staying here

Not a very warm welcome. The Lady was rude from the moment we arrived till the moment we left. The building is lovely, but made to feel like your walking on egg shells. We were the only people their and when asking if the bar was open the lady clearly had an issue with the question. Wouldnt recommend to anyone.

Period property well maintained with some beautiful features. Family owned and that is the major issue as they cannot seperate business from personal. You feel like you are in someone's home and have to creep about trying not to intrude. It's rated 4 star and sold as a hotel but as a business does not comply with the requirements that would list it as such. Receptionist 24 hours . They locked the entrance at 10 so you were supplied a key to enter after this time. The rooms seemed to be spacious but the bed in mine was not,nor was it comfortable. The mattress was knackered and to try to overcome this they had supplied a foam topper which did little to stop you dipping in the middle. So the worse nights sleep I have had since camping . The pillows were stained and had no cover inside the pillow case. There was cob webs on the ceiling and we killed 4 large ones in the first night. Carpets were stained . The shower and bath sealant was yellow and crusted with lime scale as was the shower head. It made you cringe to try and shower. There was no safe for valuables. So be wary about leaving anything in the room as the large key was left on the reception counter which is largely unattended. Breakfast is included in the room price which is taken in a lovely large dinning room . However fruit and cereals are stored in Tupperware and the choice is limited as is the vegetarian choice despite the website claiming vegetarian friendly. So no muslie no veg sausages no alternative milks. And the cheapest possible condiments. I love some of the detail in the listed property but I would never stay again.

We come hear a lot for a Sunday dinner and it’s always spot on.. the staff to the food., never had a bad meal ever… and to complemented on my daughter’s behaviour Is heart melting.. she’s always good when we go out to eat, but to have customers and staff mention it.. I’m a proud mum..

A lovely place to stay, the hosts Annette and Paul were very warm and welcoming and were very knowledgeable about the house and surrounding area. Our room was very spacious, clean and well equipped. The food was delicious and on par with local prices. Would definitely stay here again and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

Lovely welcome to a gorgeous grade 2 listed property. Rooms are huge and spacious with a very modern looking en-suite. Everything you need is there and if it wasn't, all you need to do is ask. Breakfast were lovely, I'm a monster for a breakfast and regard it as the best meal of the day but was not disappointed. All cooked to order after helping yourself to cereals, fresh juices and fruit. Lovely and "un-fussy" Had an evening meal (Sirloin steak) cooked to order and lovely, eas asked what I wanted with it as well which was nice. Hosts were happy to leave you alone or chat with you, whatever you wanted. We had a few drinks in the bar whilst chatting with either Annette or Hubbie. Very enjoyable and nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of parking outside, although it might get tight when busy for a function. Gardens a lovely, we took a wander around and was escorted by the hosts gorgeous dog. Who again never really bothered you but enjoyed being stroked and fussed when approached.

We didn’t stay but always come hear as a family for Sunday dinner… been coming for 5 years and it’s always lovely

We had a private function for about 20, well looked after all night and nothing was too much trouble, we will return.

We booked for Sunday lunch for my birthday and booked one less seat than we needed but were accommodated. The service was efficient and all staff were friendly. We have been quite a few times before and have always had a wonderful experience. The home cooked food was excellent. Thoroughly recommend this venue.

My girlfriend and her friends stayed here and had an awful experience when they got to there room there was cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and to make matters worse there was a DIRTY plaster left of the floor (not there’s). Also at exactly 10 the women was knocking on door to say they needed to check out there was not givin a check out time when checking in and assumed it would of been 11 like most hotels when saying to the women that they was sorry that they thought check out was 11 the women very abruptly said it was 10 and made them feel very unwelcome after this. They was also told if they went out that they must leave the key for the room in reception and was not aloud to take the key for there room with them. I would not recommend this hotel as not a welcoming environment.

August 14th '21 as a Celebrant i had the honour of conducting a Renewal of Vows Ceremony at the fabulous St Nicholas House. Included was a sand ceremony which incorporated the lovely couples daughters pouring their chosen colour of sand. A lasting memory created from a day of celebrating 20 years of marriage. Special thanks also go the the venue owners and staff. A truly 5* experience. If you want somewhere special, i highly recommend St Nicholas House. Thank you to everyone involved.

OMG day before the wedding, the women owner had my daughter in tears, the marquee was being put up, we had got to the venue to set the deco and tables (email sent to confirm) we was told we was to earlier, other daughter accused...

What an amazing place this Huge house has been kept in the beautiful character of the period just perfect, the bed is the most comfortable and supportive bed we've used ever I have back problems and I think it actually helped. Annette and her husband (sorry his name slipped my poor memory 😢) are always there for you helped by the rest of her lovely family. The vast garden is beautiful they have worked hard to make it so. The food is very high standard absolutely lovely. Even though it's next to the road you wouldn't know it rooms nice and quiet and the garden well you wouldn't know its near the road it's easy to relax in. They are clearly working hard and going beyond to keep it covid safe . Thank you for a lovely few days Jan and Geoff Nicholson

easy parking, lovely welcome, well stocked bar. Sunday lunch was excellent, quick friendly service and good value.

Everything was ok until the morning when I was just about to leave and I got accused of breaking a window I wasn't even asked about it just accused by a very rude women. When I asked her to show me it wasn't even a broken window but some sort of gold cap had broken which was already like that when I arrived because I remember seeing it on the side. Also when she was showing me I notice that the bed was being made using the same durvet I slept in the night before.

Stayed here for 3 nights and it felt like home. Everyone was welcoming and the dogs are lovely.

We've just been here for Sunday lunch. The food was good, the puddings are very good. It's like having lunch in Downton. Very olde world. Very friendly staff, very attentative. Very clean and well decorated building.

Super place to stay if you want a traditional place to stay and eat. The staff were so so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The food was nice. The room was double the size to normal hotel rooms. WiFi a bit slow but didn’t matter that much. Great stay!!

This place is a hidden gem can't fault it in any way rooms brilliant ensuite fab bar area great gardens great and the hosts are very welcoming and friendly definitely stay here again thank you Glyn and irene

We have been hear a few times and every time has been lovely.. except for this one time.. we had to wait between courses which isn’t bad but when you finally get the meal, the meat was a portion size for a child and the greens were at different stages of colour green.. some very over cooked and some just write.. I wouldn’t send the veg out like that and id make sure the portion sizes were equal.. it’s a shame as me and my partner recommended this place highly to family. Hopefully when we return it’ll be a non event day.. eg standard Sunday lunch not for a special occasion. I will say the staff there are excellent

Beautiful setting and hospitality

We had a cream tea for a bridal party. It was an excellent array of sandwiches, cakes and scones. Everything was delicious. I found the proprietor to be so helpful in allowing me to view the room and talk about set up. It was a perfect room, perfect food and the bride to be enjoyed her day.

Went here recently for a Christmas dinner with my partner. Whilst the food was ok the atmosphere was that of a “retirement home”. Upon arrival a kind member of staff took our coats and seated us at the bar for drinks before our meal then took us through once our table was ready. The menu itself was good value for money and the food was enjoyable just would have been better if it was served hotter. Would I come back again? Probably not whilst the food was enjoyable and the staff were pleasant enough I have had much better experiences eating elsewhere at a lower price. The parking outside wasn’t wonderful either as there isn’t really a great deal of space to park and the parking isn’t marked so people had parked very selfishly so it was hard to park.

Bath didn't work after a few hours we were told that unfortunately a plumber wouldn't be coming so asked for a refund and we drove home... might have been nice of we were offered the room at a reduced rate.
