Discovered by chance, and a nice surprise! The service was friendly and professional. The dishes are very good, including a perfect fish and chips because it's not greasy at all (its recipe obviously won a prize). And the prices are very reasonable.

Decent fish and chips, we dined in the restaurant and it was very quiet.

Very nice portion, generous dish. Good food, a little greasy all the same. My pizza was well brushed with oil. Family place.

Went on a Friday night. Every table was full. It's pretty expensive. There was a huge family table in with small children who should've been in their beds ruined it with the screaming and constant crying. I'm a mum myself and if my child was screaming and crying we'd be outta there. Not the restaurants fault but still. The service was slow and the fish with the fish and chips, the batter wasn't cooked properly. So it was sludgy inside. I won't be back. So many other restaurants around to try.

This used to be good chip shop. Ordered a breaded haddock, chips and peas.Haddock lukewarm and full of batter-chips inedible. I tried to eat it as i was hungry but that was impossible. Paid(I shouldn't have ) and left. Absolutely dreadful

Waited for over 2 hours for my food, tried phoning and ignored. The call was answered once no one said anything they just hung up. When I got the food it was freezing cold not happy customer. I and my gather are long term customers or I should say were long term customers.

For me the best fish I've ever eaten. Every time I visit Edinburgh I stop at this restaurant, and the fish is always perfect. 😉. For my appetite I highly recommend it, when I took takeaway it didn't taste as good as it did on the plate, but that's natural for a service like this.😊

Saturday night so quite a long wait

All was fine but a longer wait than expected, however, the courier was pleasant and well mannered.

We ordered a delivery at 8pm and were told it would be 45 minutes. An hour passes so we call and are told it will be another 20 minutes as they are waiting for driver, 25 minutes pass so phone again and told the driver has just left. Food arrived at 9:45 all cold. Fish hard and chewy and chips soggy. Cheese on pizza all gone cold. Had obviously been sat waiting for ages

We visited for our daughters birthday as she was keen to go local and we've enjoyed pizza and other takeaways from there before. I had called ahead to ask if we could bring our own cake, which we could. We were greeted by a young gentleman on arrival and given a seat beside the fishtank, which the Kids Loved!! 🐠 It was fairly busy for a Wednesday night, but we were seen to pretty quickly, orders were taken and the waiter gave the kids crayons and paper We had ordered starters and main, all was served promptly and really tasty as always. When the main was cleared, i asked the waiter to bring the cake, which he did, with candles and the whole restaurant sang happy birthday for our daughter, which was lovely. It turned out another girl there was also celebrating her day, which was nice as the family wishes our daughter happy birthday as leaving. Thank you again to the waiter who looked after us on Wed 5th Feb and we'll be back

waited 2 hours for our order to arrive both chicken suppers were cold and went in the bin. we are regular customers in the restaurant and chip chop but this is the second order in 2 weeks that has been cold and inedible it is in the bin and a very good customer has been lost.

Asked for chips and cheese and they just give me chips and all the chips where cold

Always feels like a treat! Food is fresh and of the best quality- fish and chips are perfect. So are the wood fired pizzas.

Haddock was amazing, mushy peas were nearly cold, the service could do with quite a bit of improvement. The waitress was impatient and unwelcoming- the place was empty save for our table of 8 and another couple when we arrived. I wanted truffle chips in place of the regular chips, she said it's not possible. No explanation, nothing further. I asked if they were available, they were. I asked if they can keep the regular and bring just the truffle, she said no. I asked if we had to order separately, she said that's how it had to be. It doesn't have to be a big deal, I'd be happy to pay extra for special chips. The inflexibility and attitude was the most memorable part of the experience dining here and was completely avoidable. If it was up to me, we'd have left based off that. We stayed because we had hungry kids. We paid in full and left a £10 or £15 tip. No gratitude when we left, no warmth, no hospitality. Just attitude. She made sure to count the tips though. We were saying to ourselves that perhaps they're grouchy from nursing a new year's hangover, or maybe they're not happy to work on the first. Customers should ideally be understanding but shouldn't have to make excuses for bad service. The truffle chips were fantastic by the way. I'd recommend for the food, but I won't return for that kind of treatment again.

Very good food polite stuff a menu with a great variety and a kid's menu. We were at Portobello beach and then went to St Andrews Restaurant and it was a great choice.

The food was amazing, would definitely recommend if you want to have a good meal from good people. Staff were very careful and accommodating with our dietary requirements and helped check the ingredients of all the dishes we ordered. Also, their hot fudge chocolate cake was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. Could not recommend it more. The cake was moist, not too sweet, and flooded in fudge - the perfect combination. If you’re in town or hanging by the beach, definitely check this place out! 😋

Having used this chip shop for a number of years - I won’t be back. Over 20 minute wait in the shop for donner kabab pizza which had 1/4 of kabab meat compared with previous orders I have had over the years. The meat was rock hard & uneditable, extremely disappointing.

Ordered a large Donner Kebab with salad and chilli sauce, no salad delivered with order, chilli sauce was a warm tomato sauce? With absolutely no kick. Overall a very disappointing meal. I haven’t had a delivery before as usually would collect however very different quality from collection and delivery.

Can’t order directly online for collection in the afternoon. Have to use just eat or others who rape you for fees just for ordering.

Visité la comida para llevar como era consciente tenía un buen menú sin gluten. Pedido 3 pizzas GF con papas fritas. Estos eran ligeramente más caros que el menú normal, pero no irrazonables. Habíamos pedido algunos ingredientes que no estaban bajo la bandera de GF (mi pareja puede comer pequeños restos de gluten) y el personal se apresuró a señalar cuáles no eran GF, lo que sería útil para cualquiera que tuviera que descartarlo completamente. La comida estaba deliciosa, e incluso nos echaron una cebolla encurtida gratis en buena medida. Sin duda recomendaría. 😊

I tried to order on the restaurant’s own app but it wouldn’t let me order salad and sauce with my kebab. So I ordered on just eat. Which at least let me order one sauce. Where I would expect more. Neither salad or sauce arrived. Dry chicken and chips after an hour of waiting. Disappointed.

Hard to find a fish and chips place where you can actually sit down and this place fit the bill. Fish was delicious, crispy batter with light flaky haddock. Delicious mushy peas too. Service was friendly and welcoming, although there was just one waitress for the whole place which seemed to put her under a bit of strain as orders were coming and people wanted to order and pay. She was great though. Good value too.

In absolute shock! Ordered the vegan calzone and was given a calzone w pepperoni in! Disgusted. Haven't eaten meat for over 30 years! Didn't even get an apology. Just an excuse that the pizzas have similar names! Absolutely appalling.

Totally horrendous service with overpriced and poor quality food. To top it off, being sworn at by a member of staff is unacceptable. Given the review when they didn’t allow an elderly gentleman to use their toilets (after spending more than £50 with them) I thought I’d give them another go. Never again.

awful level of toppings on pizzas coupled by a rude and very aggressive delivery driver. Never again.

Down graded - scampi was frozen from a packet and awful’ decent chippie but please don’t order the burger. It came as a fried puck of what animal I’m not sure but very mushy and bland and then was served with the sort of cucumber and cabbage salad you would normally find on a kebab with out a bun? Quite unique to any other cheeseburger I’ve ever ordered. When I asked where the bread was, it was met with a quizzical look and bemusement, as though I had asked for something unreasonable. Again, fine as a chippie but avoid the above option. EDIT: Would also say that fish and chips are done well but with the peas / mushy peas - a little love would be nice? Our were the kinda grey straight out of a can type - be much better with some fresh ones done in some garlic onion butter and mint.

The staff member was welcoming. He didn't make a fuss accommodating us with a toddler. The food was okay and not worth the price. I've had better fish n chips at the same price, and it hasn't been as painful to pay for. The service was extremely slow, even though it wasn't busy. There was just 1 guy serving all 4 tables, while the other lady was too busy using her phone and didn't bother looking up to see if her colleague/server needed a hand. We kept turning around to catch her attention because we'd been waiting for 20 mins for someone to take our order. The food was prepared and served in time. Overall, the experience was okay. Fish n chips (£15.90) 6/10 Penne pasta (£12.90) 6/10 Kids mac n cheese (£9.50) 4/10 The prices on the website aren't updated.

Service a toll sham, they say cake comes in already sliced got cake couple of weeks ago. They don’t have any manners to customers person I had the unfortunate pleasure was very unpleasant I hope people who are thinking about going to St Andrews Portobello I would say go somewhere else

The fish and chips were great, but the service was terrible. It's impossible to get a refill because our server rarely came around and had waited almost 45 minutes just for the check. Keep in mind there are only a few tables sat. I don't know if it's because I'm from out of the country, but this is actually ridiculous. The table next to us came in close to us being done eating and still got the check and left before us. Our server even looked at us multiple times, and we tried getting her attention but just to be ignored. Great food but the worst server I have ever had, and I work in a kitchen, so I would know a good or a bad server. All in all, if you are planning to be there with a party of two for two hours, then be my guest. I'm not, so I'll never dine here ever again. I am posting this soon after leaving.
