Friendly staff, felt very welcome without being stifled. Lovely cafe with home cooked foods. We arrived in time for lunch service. Great selection for all. I had homemade Cullen Skink, best I have ever tasted! Ordered 2 children's meals too of chicken breast burger and Mac n Cheese. Deluxe hot chocolate was amazing, piled high in cream, Marsh mallows and chocolate. Very reasonable prices for home cooked food. Highly recommended. Busy place and rightly so!

We met up for a chat over lunch and were made very welcome. The food is yummy - I had the steak ciabatta and my friend fish and chips. We finished with coffee which was lovely - I had Victoria sponge and my friend millionaire shortbread - both were just amazing! Will definitely be back. Thank you.

Based on previous good visits, my friend and I came here after attending a Trade Show near Fochabers. Service was good, however, the Roots Burger was rancid smelling and tasted bitter and sharp, a good indication that the meat should not be eaten. I informed the waitress who apologised I did remark that the burger was too gamey and definitely should not have been served. Imagine my surprise at being charged for something that could have damaged my health. Again the waitress said sorry the Chef Patron wanted to charge me as the use by date was okay, oh yeah! Hence this poor review, for the cost of a Burger the cafe's reputation is brought into question, how dumb is that. I am a good home cook and have been for fifty years, I think by now I recognise inedible food and this was. Well done Chef Patron I will be dissing your place for years to come.

Don't get me wrong ,we absolutely love Square roots! Staff are lovely , especially the lady who seems to always be there. We almost always have the "Trainwreck" it was just the best toastie ever,we have brought friends in for brunch and on our recommendation they have had them and loved them too.Sadly the menu is different now and our Trainwreck has been changed to a Ciabatta toastie instead It's filling of bacon ,cheese and caramelised onions is barely there at all ,it was lacking in any flavour at all. Please ,please bring back the old one we loved .Also the chocolate sprinkles on Cappuccinos have been replaced with bitter cocoa powder,it totally ruins the coffee. Can we just have things the way we were? Then we will return,or we will have to find somewhere else I guess

As soon as you walk in the door they are rude. The woman continually shouts instead of talking normally. I think there is something wrong with her or maybe she's just a common piece. So we left and got a very sarcastic "bye" Surprised they have any customers.

Went to this cafe because according to its website it offers "quality produce, freshly prepared and presented with care", and that it works "closely with local farmers and producers, creating a range of dishes inspired by traditional farmhouse cooking with an occasional twist." I was hoping, then, for some nice breakfast options. Unfortunately, that was not to be. I tried to order avocado on toast, which was on the menu, but asked to add a couple of poached eggs, which I was told couldn't be done. I opted, then, for the vegetarian breakfast - which, when it arrived, featured tinned baked beans, frozen hash browns, and store bought veg sausages and white toast. Since the remaining items were fried mushrooms and a grilled tomato - neither of which, I would imagine, were grown locally - it's hard to fathom what was local or 'farmhouse' about this meal. It was, to me, completely tasteless. My son had the waffles with maple syrup, which were fine, but they were plain - they didn't come with any options, for e.g., like a fruit compote. This cafe also has, sadly, no ambience - we were regaled with a radio station blasting annoying chatter and the latest pop hits. Will be looking elsewhere for local breakfast options.

Firstly, there is free parking not 100 metres away. Next there was a friendly greeting. The place was really clean, with rustic dark wood tables of varying sizes. The atmosphere was happy and friendly, just like the staff. We started with soup. A mistake as it was a main course portion. He naturally had Cullen Skink. Creamy, fishy potatoey- OOh. I had the special of the day, pea and ham. Gorgeous tasting, served with a big crunchy crouton in the middle. I have to remark on the bread, which really is my only negative. We got two half slices of white cut bread, and a little pat of very cold butter. Not my style really. For mains he went for dirty burger. A nice thick chilli burger with jalapeño, onion ring and salad stuff in a toasted bun. Served with a little basket of very moreish chips. I wanted to try something I'd not had before so went for buttermilk chicken on a waffle. We had homemade waffles at the hotel in Tombstone on our way to The OK Corral, and this one was nearly as good. The chicken was beautifully moist and the batter crispy and well seasoned. I ladled it with the maple syrup served with it- a mistake as it was too sweet for my taste, but hubby loved it. I wanted to stop at coffee, but him indoors approached the cake counter. Allways a mistake. He came back with two portions of millionaire's shorty. I tried hard but could only make it thru a third, but he finished mine as well. Lovely goey chocolatey fudgy biscuity calorie laden cake. Worth every inch on the hips! The coffee was maybe the best part of the meal, which is not a criticism of what we ate. The nicest coffee we have had, which includes those in US. And the price? with two bottles of fizzy water, less than £40

We had our first visit to Square Roots yesterday and were very impressed. Service by the receptionist/cashier/waitress Naomi was superb, friendly and very efficient, and she keeps the place spotless with table and floor cleaning after each customer group leaves. The food was excellent. My wife, Pat, had 'small portion' fish and chips but still could not eat it all and the batter on the fish was the best we had found anywhere. I had the Square Roots burger, which is BIG, and the whole thing was top class with the burger freshly made, thick, really tasty and great consistency. We shared a sticky toffee pudding for afters, 1 portion with 2 spoons and it was both delicious and totally adequate for the 2 of us. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be going to this restaurant again and taking family members when they visit.

We were in Keith and decided to give this place a try. The staff were lovely and attentive cannot fault them. The menu looked nice but a bit over priced. Husband ordered fish and I ordered a cheese and pickle toasted sandwich. Husbands fish was over cooked with thick greasy batter. My sandwich was a pickle sandwich with a small piece of cheese, I scrapped off at least 2 tablespoons of pickle before I could eat it. The coffee was nice but for the price and low quality of food we will not be back and will warn family and friends about our poor experience.

The cakes on offer also looked delicious we will definitely be back to try them. My husband and I visited here after hearing so many wonderful reviews. The cafe was busy so understandably staff were struggling to keep up. Staff led us to a table where we had to wait while they fetched a cloth to clear and clean the table. This itself wasn't an issue, but the table remained sticky afterwards. After about a 15 minute wait our order was taken. We each chose the BBQ Melt Chicken Burger and a plate of Philly Cheese Steak Fries to share. The Fries started off well but after a few we realised the plate was full of grease. My Husband found a hair on his burger, melted into the cheese. Staff took it away and offered to replace it but my Husband had lost his appetite by then. My burger was nice enough although the chicken was quite dry. Staff were apologetic about our meal and took the price of my Husbands burger off the bill which was appreciated. Overall, staff were professional and friendly but our general experience was disappointing and we're reluctant to try again. Hopefully this was an unfortunate one off incident.

Came here through a review from Happy Cow as we were looking for vegan/ gluten free food. Our first impressions looking at the menu were promising however it became clear that the staff didn’t really understand the vegan side of the menu. We had to ask about vegan spread for our toast and when our toast came (which was meant to be GF sourdough) it was just plain white bread. My husband is a GF vegan and this is a challenge for many cafes, some rise to the challenge and others don’t quite manage it - they offered two vegan cakes (fantastic) but the gluten free one wasn’t vegan. The cafe itself is lovely and the staff were great, very pleasant and helpful but until they get a grip with vegan/gf food I’m afraid we won’t be back

A great-value, freshly-cooked lunch for six today. Nice range of menu options and blackboard specials. We enjoyed: Cullen Skink (traditional NE Scotland fish soup of smoked haddock, potatoes, onions, cream), curried carrot soup, venison burgers topped with haggis and cheese, carrot cake, lemon and ginger cheesecake. All were absolutely delicious. We were lucky to sit near enough the kitchen door to see all other dishes for diners come out, and they looked just as fantasti as our own. Staff were welcoming, caring, and respectful. Surroundings are rustic bistro. In Keith (town) square just off the A96, with plenty parking on the doorstep so easy to pop in. They also do breakfasts, “just” drinks/cakes, and afternoon tea. (Only criticism is that there is only one WC so at busy times you might have to wait a moment or two...)

We’ve just thoroughly enjoyed a fresh, tasty meal of asparagus risotto, dressed with salad leaves, sun dried tomatoes and garlic bread, then the most delicious of cheesecakes, homemade strawberry and prosecco . We chose a Keith lager each which was really refreshing and good to see a local brewery being promoted. The service was excellent with subtle tasteful decor, good music and a place we’ll certainly visit again. Great location and a perfect addition to Keith.

Had a wonderful meal at Square Roots tonight. For starters we had Tempura Prawns and Smoked chicken and black pudding terrine. Main courses of Herb crumbed haddock with cheese and chive mash and fillet of beef medallions with dauphinois potatoes, both served with a side of cauliflower, broccoli and carrot batons. Every thing was cooked to perfection and tangled the taste buds! All the flavours complimented each other perfectly. We washed it all down with a lovely fruity Merlot. Too full for pudding but managed an espresso and some ice cream. Friendly and attentive staff in ambient surroundings. Highly recommend.

We visited Square Roots last night. The decor is very tasteful and it immediately strikes you as being very fresh and clean, The lady who was welcoming and took us to our table. The menu had a good choice of dishes, the king prawns were large and succulent, the herbed crumbed haddock was very good. All the dishes we tried were fresh and tasty. The bottle of Pinot Gritot was very smooth. The waitress was very attentive but not overwhelming. We will be returning when we visit Keith again.

I’ve been here quite a few times, breakfast, lunch, coffee and dinner! It has been great every time, good menu (and good drinks menu), really good quality food and good service! We had an early evening meal with our toddler who loved her scampi & chips followed by ice cream and she ate for free!!

Came here with my daughters and grandchildren a few weeks ago. Easily accessible for me on my wheelchair and plenty well cleaned highchairs for the kids. Parking right at the door too! Ordered the Veg Lasagne off the specials board and was delicious. Friendly, helpful staff with a wide range of tasty dishes to choose from. Finished off with a slice of carrot cake and one of their coffees, and was delicious. Homebaked carrot cake reminded me of the ones my mum baked Love the traditional vibe they have gone for with decor, suits the town well. Will definitely be back

Stumbled across this place out for an evening drive, stopped for dinner. Was greeted by lovely staff at the door. The ambiance was casual and relaxing. Had a local beer followed by an exceptional ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce, followed by a sticky toffee pudding which can never go a miss. Highly recommend this place, and I will be coming by for lunch one day with my family. Was even greeted by the chef himself (David) which was a nice touch.

We received a very warm welcome. The rooms were all en-suite. They were very clean with tea and coffee making facilities. A perfect stopover for our Moray Coastal walk.

Gréât place to stop for proper coffee (the best in Speyside), snacks, and it’s right next to parking and a secure playground for the kids.

While staying at findhorn bay camp site we decided to try Pizza for a quick meal . We had ham and pineapple pizza , garlic bread with feta dip and finished it off with tiramisu. It did not disappoint, especially the tiramisu.Decent size of pizza , plenty for 2 of us with 2 slices left to eat later .Didn’t have long to wait .

Just one turn away from the Main Street a nice little shop. We had Crepes of the day with cheese meatballs and Panini. Nice people there, families with children and grandma.
