Square Grill Restaurant & Piano Bar in Bath and North East Somerset

We love this place. As in our tour to Bath, we just arrived at the Bath Abbey at 2:00PM and were looking to try some famous fish and chip. The young waiter guy was very nice. He said the fish and chip there was very big and very nice at Bath, so we only ordered 1 for 2 person. Service was fast and very attentive. Fish was fresh and chips were very crispy. Would definitely recommend for quick lunch in a day tour to Bath.

Had an amazing date night here with a bottle of red, whiskey and cocktails! All were amazing and the beef brisket was perfect! The staff were amazing and very observant which made you feel very cared for. Our server was Amarildo (hopefully spelt correct) and special thanks to the pianist Terry Franks. Make sure u keep getting him to play👍

Love the vibe of this place, we visited for a second year in a row. First year for brunch with live pianist, second year for night time cocktails outside, under the heaters. Lovely spot and great food and drinks if you want that bit fancier and elegant atmosphere xx

What a stellar meal. From the pork cheeks to the Lava cake, I couldn't fault a thing. Well-balanced, thoughtfully constructed dishes, elegant and soigné in their presentation but still delicious to eat. It's clear that the kitchen has put a lot of hard work into this menu. The service was outstanding and very knowledgable. I'd return to Bath just to come dine here again.

Today, I had the pleasure of indulging in afternoon tea at Square Grill Bar in Bath, and it was nothing short of delightful. The selection of finger sandwiches was fresh and varied, with the smoked salmon and cream fresh being a standout. The scones were perfectly baked—crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, served with a generous helping of clotted cream and strawberry jam. The sweet treats, including mini carrot cake and macarons, were beautifully presented and tasted divine. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure our teapots were never empty. A truly relaxing and elegant afternoon!

We visit Bath for a first time ! Me and my partner we try a few places ! But Square was 100% the food and service was really good! Definitely we will be back.

The umbrella was full of water, and the water fell on us, which caused our phones to stop working for a few minutes, and the vape didn’t work either. On top of that, we all got soaked. Then the manager came and said ‘I’m sorry’ in a very rude manner. I asked him, ‘What’s the use of your sorry?’ He replied, ‘We’ve been respectful to you, and you should be respectful in return.’ I told him, ‘We’ve been respectful too.’ He said, ‘You should be’ in a loud voice, full of arrogance, and his apology was given with pride. Even his facial expressions were angry, even though they were the ones who were wrong. Moreover, I have to be honest, the burger that day was very dry and cold. Yesterday, I was sitting outside with my friends, and it was raining. The boss turned off the umbrella above us, causing all my friends to get wet. When we talked to him, he was rude and disrespectful to us.

Ran here to escape from the rain and had a lovely quick breakfast! Right in front of the beautiful Xmas tree. Egg benedict was a banger! If only I didn't spill my tea 😂

We were there at an odd time because we were still jet lagged. Although there wasn’t live music during our time, the playlist is exactly my type of music. The manager made sure we were taken care of when service needs to be more attentive so he coached the staff well. Food is superb and I’ll be sure to come back one day when there’s live piano music. The mini bobas are exquisite on the Beetroot Tartare! My photos don’t do them justice.

Simple Steak Sandwich and Chicken sandwich for brunch, but exactly what you would like to receive. Quality ingredients and excellent service. Easy to recommend.

Lovely meal, good service and great food

Food was nothing special, the staff were all very rude and the food did not match the price. I went with a group of nine people and got charged an extra £13.60 for a service charge, we wouldn’t have had a problem with this is we had geeked welcome but as waiters were speaking in different languages around us and were quote rude towards us I did not believe that we should be charged so much for a service charge that we had no prior knowledge that we had to pay before entering the restaurant.

Dined here last week as part of a pre-booked meal with work. Lovely staff, very professional and smiley even though we’ve stayed there quite a while. Great quality food, we left stuffed. The gravy for the roast turkey main was a bit salty. Beautiful surroundings and great location

This is a restaurant/bar on two sides of a building. The open area at the back facing the abbey and the shop front on the road way. Felt like a very tourist place rather than a local place to eat. The food was OK rather than special. Lots of staff and managers around.

Wow! What an incredible meal! The food was cooked perfectly, and tasted absolutely incredible. I’m rarely surprised by a meal, but this one prompted a review. Staff also very warm spirited. 5 stars, will be back again very soon!

Visited Sunday 24th November 2024. Anniversary Nice atmosphere, good polite and friendly service. Menu had many nice dishes, just did not know what to choose. Chose steak and was not disappointed, tender, full of flavour and cooked to perfection, would definitely visit again. Full marks. Ian and Dawn Peachey

First time to Bath and stumbled across this little beauty. What a gem of place. Greeted by the friendly team, uplifting jazz music along with delicious food. What more could you want! We both ordered the roast dinners. Oh my they were the best we’ve ever eaten. Scrumptious crispy roast potatoes, crispy tasty and well seasoned chicken and for hubby, the roast pork chop was to ‘die for’ - his words not mine. 10/10 - well done everyone at the Square for such a welcoming and friendly visit. We will be back!

We stopped off here for a quick breakfast whilst visiting Bath and what a little gem we found! The breakfast was lovely! I had the eggs royale and they were done so well and the hollandaise sauce was flavourful, my partner had the full english which was a good portion! Staff were friendly, restaurant was nice and was a pleasant experience to pop in for a quick brekkie! Thank you!

We dined here on our trip to Bath. The food was incredible (and well priced) - seriously the best fish pie I’ve EVER had. The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming. The pianist added a really nice touch too. We will for sure come back next time we are in Bath.

I went to this place by chance, but the COD Daegu wheelat dish is really delicious. They are very friendly.

Toggled between 4-5 stars and going 5, but only 4 on the food. We had soup, appetizer, and a main course. The food was good and high quality but the flavor of everything was a tad bland. Great customer service and respect . Nice presentation of everything and liked the establishment a lot.

Food was pretty good, and the atmosphere with the piano was great. Service was outstating with our waiter even helping us fillet the fish for a picky eater.

During our recent visit to Bath, we took our Thai freind for a traditional English Cream Tea. We placed an order for three cream teas and were pleased with the prompt delivery. However, we were disappointed to find that the scones were small, overcooked, and dry, with one of them resembling a ball in shape. We didn't want to make a scene in front of our Thai freind, so ate and left. Again staff were friendly, clean and good atmosphere. But left very disappointed.

Food was amazing, tiger prawns wow , riders cooked perfectly. All washed down with a bottle of cote du Rhone.

Lovely food but a little expensive for dinner. The set lunch menu looked very good value though. Large, heated outdoor seating area within sight of the Abbey. Efficient service too.

i went there with my girls for my birthday and it was incredible. i could not recommend more. all the staff and the boss was so lovely and accommodating. Pali served us and he was so sweet and kind and kept the wine glasses toped up at all time. All the staff were so kind so thank you as well to jakub, scarlett, amarildo, tirion and Igli for all making it an incredible visit.

I visited late in the evening on the first day after arriving in Bath. The interior is such that it feels like a great restaurant to spend a precious Friday evening. The atmosphere is good too. All the staff were friendly. It must have been frustrating because we weren't good at English, but we tried our best to communicate and all the staff responded well. I liked everything from popular songs that I knew how to play the piano to music that set the mood. The meat was extremely delicious. The sauce was also delicious. but. There is plenty of food, so consider your order carefully. It's for two.. but if you're counting the quantity, I think it'll be enough for 3 people. If I come to Bath again, I will definitely visit again!

We dined here in the summer and had a great time so rebooked for my father in law’s birthday. We were not acknowledged as we entered the restaurant initially, and when we were it was cold and not very friendly. The food was really hit and miss, some items like the desserts were very good. However, some of the main dishes were cold and tasted a bit bland. This was a shame because we had such a good experience here over the summer. To top it off, we felt it was quite expensive, and have had far better experiences at higher end restaurants recently for similar prices. We won’t be rushing back.

We ended up here by accident , as the restaurant we had booked wasn't open when it was supposed to be . Food was good, service prompt and friendly. Not busy at all, so able to get in and out in plenty of time and be very near most of the interesting attractions

It's a lovely restaurant with both inside and outside seating with a great view of the Roman Bath and Bath Abbey. We took full advantage of the latter and enjoyed a warm sunny day and the lively music and dance of the street. The service was prompt and the portion sizes were really good and the food tasty.

Visited in late August with friends just before taking the Bath Ghost tour. Location was good for the tour, as it was right where the meeting point was. We told our server Igli that we only had 40 minutes to eat and get to the tour and he did everything he could to make sure it was super speedy! We really appreciated that! Food was yummy, drinks were great and service exceptional. Thank you!

Been here several times, it’s got great views of the bath abby area with even better ambiance since there is always a live performer nearby playing some great tunes. One of the members of staff named Lucky is great with the service and i would definitely recommend you to come here

Simple but excellent lunch. Radek, our server, was professional and friendly. We had a slight undercook on one meal, but the manager just replaced the whole dish. Very good service all round. That’s the way to win repeat custom.

We had a hen party brunch at the square and it was brilliant, we hadn’t booked just turned up and tbey were so accommodating! Staff were amazing, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and was really fast. Our waiter called Lucky was amazing!!! Highly reccomend!!

Great location for a spot of breakfast in Bath. It provides a perfect view of the Abbey while you have a coffee. The wait staff were attentive but not pushy. The food we had was tasty and the vegetarian meal was nice. They make good standard coffee, but don't expect any specialty brews. It is a killer location when the sun is out and not too pricey.

Food was alright. We just don't really like the service. The waiter seemed not patient. It's unfortunately below standard.

Only stopped for a drink but all the food coming out looked amazing and our waiter lucky was great. Very friendly and very reasonably priced.

Terrible food. Burger and Steak meal were both burnt on the outside which made the meat bitter. Service was not friendly either. Spent over £150 for very poor evening at this restaurant. Would not recommend.

Two weeks ago , I was on an escape trip to Bath. I had a random lunch here before I checked in my hotel and I kept going there for the rest of my stay. The view of the abbey is spectacular. The square in front of it is a whole world itself. The place is extremely nice and so welcoming. The food is so good , it makes you come back ! The staff is amazing ! They are doing their best , super attentive and nice and sweet and so charming ! I had the best time here , which I am very thankful for to the whole team ! Keep being so fantastic ! I went to this restaurant because I had visited the restaurant here 23 years ago with my family. For dinner, I had mussels and pork. The mussels were a little small💦The mashed potatoes that came with the pork were really delicious! ! It was a smooth and flavorful British mashed potato. We also had wine and beer. I chose a white wine to match the shellfish and it was excellent. It was a nice dinner in Bath. The atmosphere was nice and they provided a heater as it was cold. Unlike in the past, there were fences and roofs around the square, so it was a bit of a hindrance to seeing the temples and bathhouses💦💦 It seems like the owner has changed since then, but being able to visit the same place was a great memory. If anyone knows of a restaurant that was in this location around 2001, please let me know the name.

The pump room had power outage and had to find a new birthday brunch place last minute. It was a great choice and despite no one expected anything they even got us a little birthday surprise.

That's the place to go in Bath! The atmosphere is just very special! When the weather is nice, you dine outside on the main square in a separate area. You are right in the middle and still have some privacy. You have a view of the Abbey and the streams of tourists, hear the performances of the street artists (high quality!) and benefit from excellent cuisine and a nice selection of wines. What more do you want? Well, there are of course also aspects that could be criticized: The table decoration made of plastic succulents is really not a plus. The price level is high and not everyone will like the heaters on the terrace for energy saving reasons... And for tourists from the continent: tips are included! But don't forget to give the buskers a donation! ;-)

Tomato soup was served warm -? But they fixed it. Seafood linguine was disappointing as was the risotto, but they had a nice amarone by the glass, which is rare to find. Piano was very, very nice. Exceptionally attentive service.

A surprise find! We were on the look out for gluten friendly options and there were plenty. Friendly service and delicious food. Our waiter, Lucky, was very personable and looked after us well. Highly recommended!

I recently hosted a private dinner at a the Square about a month ago, and I can’t say enough about how amazing it was! From the moment we walked in, we felt warmly welcomed. Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The menu was a showstopper. We started with smoked duck breast, which was incredibly flavorful and beautifully presented. For the main course, the steak was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. And let’s not forget the crème brûlée! It was the perfect ending, with a perfectly caramelized top and a creamy, dreamy filling. Every dish was a hit, and our guests couldn’t stop raving about the food. Service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lumi was fantastic—so attentive and accommodating. He made sure we had everything we needed while maintaining a friendly and relaxed vibe throughout the evening. It really added to the overall experience, making us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant. Overall, we had an incredible time, and our guests did too! The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a great atmosphere made for a truly memorable evening. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to host a special event!
