Cafe Walcot in Bath and North East Somerset

We went there for dinner and I was amazed by the professionalism of the staff. I followed all our waitress recommendations and wasn't disappointed, just top-notch!

For our evening meal on our 2nd day in Bath we chanced upon Walcott for dinner. What a gem of a restaurant. A beautiful chilled well designed interior, fantastically attentive and knowledgeable staff, and a superb menu. We started with seared pigeon breast... delightfully tender, and the pork belly and black pudding strumpets (a culinary cross of a scone and a crumpet! Who knew). Then we shared the bavette steak...incredibly tender with seasonal vegetables. Finally, a warm rice pudding...so indulgent. If you are in the area... please visit them ...oh! Btw...they also do a superb breakfast. Marvellous

Really liked this place. We turned up for breakfast at 09:00 on a Monday where we enjoyed freshly baked pastries and yummy yoghurt, rhubarb compote and granola. Top notch!

Always a fantastic experience visiting Walcot House. We headed in for lunch with our 5 month old Daughter - the team could not have been more welcoming and accommodating which we greatly appreciated. The food, service, wine and atmosphere were absolutely faultless as always Thanks guys, looking forward to our next visit

What a great place. We had their local bread with butter as a starter. Wow! Superb. And then possibly the best ribeye steak I've ever had. It's simple food done brilliantly. The atmosphere and service were also superb. You couldn't ask for anything more. Thank you guys for a wonderful evening.

One of my favourites, if not favourite. Terrific menu though I gravitate to their excellent chateaubriand. Great wine selection, too. Service is 2nd to none. A tad noisy but I'm an old guy!

We visited for a Sunday roast before getting the train back home. We got there early so enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar area before we were seated at our table. One of the best roasts we’ve ever had - and we’ve had a lot! Beautifully cooked meat (we had the lamb and beef) and really yummy veg - not to mention the massive fluffy Yorkshire puds! Our waiter Callum was also fab - so attentive.

So I have been to Walcot house quite a few times and have to say it feels like they have found the stride recently. Had bar snacks to start, all really good. Chicken pie for main also really delicious ( they should sell them at green street butchers) and ginger sponge cake with custard, I added vanilla ice cream to it, and man it was delicious! Thank you to the whole team. Didn’t take any pics…. Sorry

Was able to get a walk-in table at the bar fairly easily and the food was superb—the best in the city! The sourdough with butters (we chose anchovy butter) was a knockout, as was the mushroom risotto. Perfectly balanced, quite elevated food but without the pretentiousness. Great atmosphere too and friendly service.

We had breakfast for 13 on Christmas Eve. We were asked to pre order and we made a few changes on the day. Fantastic service. Nothing was a problem. Will definitely go back.

Food, service and atmosphere really good... Just that the price is quite a bit higher than comparable places. Would I go back... Yes, but not as frequently as I would to other places. We are spoilt for choice in Bath. Many excellent restaurants to choose from... Walcott House is excellent... Just not the best value.

Had a Sunday roast here. It was surprisingly good (had the vegetarian option!). Really good portion sizes and great selection of starters and desserts too. Was at the higher price range but worth it!

Lovely place to go and have a few cocktails. Staff are knowledgeable and efficient, atmosphere is exceptional, vibe is on point. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for!

Very great food. We had a great dinner and we were even able to take our dog with us. Very good service and the quality of the food was also very good. A little more expensive but absolutely worth it!

I really like Walcot House, I've been here 4 times now, and I have not been disappointed yet. On this particular visit, our waiter forgot about me when I asked for another bloody mary (which was excellent btw) hence 4* service. Fig and goatchease starter was crisp and light and morsome. Always get a sharing steak, which is bbqed expertly and is delicious. Bernaise sauce was disappointing. However, we got extra Yorkshire pudding and gravy as it was a Sunday, so I can forgive a lacklustre Bernaise. Desert aslo very tasty. Not cheap, but worth it, you will do well to get a better steak in Bath.

Stunning roasts. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. Me and my friend both had the roast lamb with mint sauce. There was nothing to fault here. The lamb was nice and tender and delicious. Roast potatoes were perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the insides. Yorkshire pudding, veg and gravy were on point. Special special mention to the cauliflower cheese which was up there with the best I've ever had. Definitely recommend this place for a roast.

Went in to see this place as a possible wedding reception meal provider. Loved the ambience, the staff, the look and smell of the food being served ! Sadly, the function room is a little too tight for our requirements...

Last visit was 20th September when my niece and I celebrated my 81st birthday. I'd been countless times and had 5star food every time. Alas, on this special day, our experience was not good The risotto ordered by my niece was soft and pudding-like, not as it should be. She handed back her plate and explained, only to be offered a free drink! Not good enough. I shall come again as all my other visits were happy ones..Shame this was a birthday treat.

Whilst on holiday we were refused entry to due to a member of our group wearing a bow in her hair, the staff stated the rationale for this is they class the bow as “paraphernalia” as a group in our 30s this was highly embarrassing, made only worse by the fact by the bar then let in someone wearing denim shorts which exposed intimate parts of her body, I feel the Walcott need to reassess their dress code.

Superb Sunday roast my children assured me. My hake was absolutely delicious, but I forgot to take a pic. And the birthday fudge was as delicious. The venue was stunning, staff lovely, food superb. All perfect and then a minibus arrived with 20 or so ‘patrons’.

Walcot House Bath - a lovely setting - beautiful decor with lots of greenery! Excellent service and top food! We had the roast which was excellent - generous portions and cauliflower cheese to die for! Lots of roasted vegetables - too many different veg to name! Plenty of tasty home made gravy. I would not usually have a roast but was recommended and it was delicious. Puds amazing and all homemade. Damson Amaretti crumble and rhubarb crumbles and a chocky mousse to follow! All delicious! Good selection of gin, wine, lager and craft beer.

Excellent birthday brunch spot. Delicious date French toast and a spicy Bloody Mary served in a lovely informal setting. Will definitely return.

Best restaurant in Bath I think (and there are many!) Situated away from the tourist traps so plenty of locals there too. Not cheap but a lovely treat. Fantastic staff.

Lovely food and nice place go go

I popped in solo for some afternoon snacks and wine. Service was good and food was good, although food presentation was not as flash as what they post on IG.

Great brunch, nice setting, friendly staff… just a weird lack of a baby changing table. There’s plenty of room in the bathroom and lots of people there with kids, so it seems an obvious thing to include.

What a joy on a Monday night . We had been recommended by several friends to go here - and it didn’t disappoint . A great vibe , very busy at 7pm … The menu is creative , and we loved it . The quality of food was exceptional . We will certainly be back again .

Only one veggie main option on the menu, which is like travelling back to the 1990s and being reminded how bad things were. And it was risotto. Imaginative. Starters were better. Ambience and service excellent.

Returned here for a second time after an initial fantastic dinner experience. This time I enjoyed a cocktail, wine, the beef tartar (to die for!), asparagus and ricotta rotolo and panna cotta. Attentive service, relaxed atmosphere, food is very well executed, local and seasonal. Top dining experience!

Callum and the team did a stunning job today providing an outstanding and friendly service whilst we enjoyed courses from the lunchtime menu; the mushroom arancini with truffle mayo and smoked salmon caesar salad were especially nice. If you're looking for a great place to eat, look no further!

Fantastic food, the best Sunday Roast we've had in England. The place is very cozy and modern, and the service is also impeccable.

We walked into the Dilly bar without reservations and the staff was extremely helpful in sitting us in the bar with full menu. As long as they know up front you want to dine in the bar they are ok with it. We had steak and fries with some really nice wines but skipped desert as we were too full. Really satisfied as our last meal in England prior to returning home.

Doesn’t take bookings for solo customers. In 25yrs of travelling all over the world and eating in some amazing restaurants I’ve never had this problem. At worse you can usually sit at a bar area or come early, not in peak hours, I get the need to maximise profit. Very odd and turns me off when not solo.

Some of the best food I've ever had, all of it was really delicious. We did have to wait for our table to be ready and a side dish was incorrect from our order, but considering how busy the restaurant was, service was very good. Decor of the restaurant was stunning.

The sourdough was fluffy and delicious, the beef tartare was flavorful, the dry-aged chateaubriand was impeccably executed, and the apple crumble was the perfect finale. And service was quick and friendly. The best dinner date night at Bath! Thanks!

Outstanding food. Every course was as sublime as the next and service was great. We were very lucky to have Walcot House 2 minutes walk from our Airbnb and couldn’t believe our luck. Highly recommended!

I do like this restaurant and never had a problem - but last Saturday I took my family there for dinner and my daughter's boyfriend had the salmon with mussel chowder, which gave him severe food poisoning later that night. Unfortunately, when I told the restaurant's manager, he did not believe it was the dish, he said food poisoning takes 8 hours to develop. I know now that this is not true, and I feel disappointed being disregarded like that. I did not ask for a refund, I just wanted to let them know that the mussels were not safe to eat. Not sure what to make of this...

Really lovely early Friday night dining experience for a bunch of colleagues. The food was delicious and the atmosphere friendly and warm. Personally, I liked the decor, and where we sat, in the back, there was more than enough room for 12 of us to manoever. I enjoyed the fact that they had high quality non alcoholic drinks options for those of us who needed to drive. If you're ever in Bath, I would highly recommend paying a visit!

Staff were very pleasant. The food and drinks were fine. A very pleasantly decorated area. However, the constant noise of dogs barking in the dining area was very annoying and has put me off going back. A shame.

Tricky to rate. The food was good but not excellent, the service the same. We felt a bit like a cog in a fast turning wheel. We didn’t overstay our time limit, but when we asked for cocktails after dinner, we were quickly directed to the cocktail lounge downstairs instead of served at table. The lounge was full.

Excellent value set lunch in French style brasserie with lively atmosphere and reliably good standard of cooking. Dinner prices are comparatively expensive, particularly for wine. Hard to find a place like this in Bath which doesn't just feel touristy. Very enjoyable.

The best Sunday lunch my wife and I have had! Lovely setting and friendly staff. The trimmings that came with our shoulder of lamb were delicious, the roast potatoes were so crispy! We will definitely be coming back on our next trip to Bath!
