Overpriced, average food and terrible service. You get left standing waiting to order for an age. No prawn crackers either

New owner all ways on mobile. Food is sub standard. Asked her if food is same as old owners. She gave me my money back. Food is not the same quality. Owners are useless. Carry on ignoring customers. Phone call is more important. Chef cant cook. Food is what i would not feed to my dog. Rubbish. Rubbish

I also have been going here for takeaway for many years. Ok know for a fact it has changed hands over the last couple of years. The old owner retired. The food is still very good. The pancake rolls are awesome. I will say that the portions are smaller now. The rice used to be rammed in the foil trays. Not anymore. The curry is the best for Chinese in town. However it is not very hot anymore. You have to ask for extra hot. Apart from that excellent.

Fast service, really friendly, lovely little lad serving, food was perfect. Best Chinese we’ve had in a very long time. Shame they don’t deliver but I’d happily drive to them for a guaranteed good meal.

Such a shame, it has been taken over by new folks - so with heavy heart, I must change my review. In fairness the new people are very pleasant BUT the curry sauce instead of being absolutely awesome, now just tastes like the generic "chinese style bulk curry sauce" you get almost everywhere. It has that "browny yellow" almost translucent appearance that is typical of most of the cheap generic curry sauces. Previous owners used to use MASSES of large lump of meat - the meat with the new owners is ok - but only a fraction of what you used to get. Other than Yumeijin, I thought this was the best Chinese in town for the depth of flavour in their sauces. Now it is "average chinese effort" at best. I really wish they had bought the recipes from the previous owner - the difference between old recipe and new recipe is massive. Sadly I will not buy there again - and having spoken to others who have been there, I think they will find that their sales will start to decline. It was a 5/5 score (that was fully justified) down to a 2/5 which is only that high because 1/5 seemed a LITTLE mean as they are so pleasant. Why do restaurants never seem to realise that you need the recipes if you want to retain the old customers?

We normally order from Kings next door bit decided to try this one for a change. Awful. Tasteless, bland food that none of us could eat more than a few mouthfuls of as it practically stuck to the roof of our mouths. Will be sticking with Kings from now on!

This take away (alas no eat-in) is one of the best for Chinese food in town, for example if you order chicken curry - you get a LOT of large lumps of chicken in a fairly thick curry sauce. Other places in town has tiddly little bits of chicken swimming in a thin watery sauce - and as much gristle as meat. Spring star really do make the effort to ensure you have a LOT of meat in their dishes - and always meat - not a gristly lump. Not open on Tuesdays any more - but open the other days of the week until 11pm.

It's ok nothing special, have found the curry sauce very runny before with a strange taste, as with a lot of Chinese takeaways taste different on other days .

This is the worst food ever, everything tastes the same the meat is fake and hard. The mushrooms are from a can. I spent 35pounds and had to re cook the food at home and add more flavour and it didn't help. It's like hospital food but the Chinese version.

Personally I have been going there years, but it seems as the years have gone on, the quality has lessened. One thing though they do the best Chinese curry!

Only had a couple of beers, but all of the staff were very friendly and as most patrons were watching the rugby in another bar the lounge was quiet with nice background music, not loud not rowdy, very relaxing and enjoyable, will be back for sure.

Ordered from Sams on Friday 27th September. Opted for Sweet and Sour chicken Hong kong style, Egg fried rice, chicken fine noodles, chips and satay sauce. You get free Prawn Crackers for orders over £15. Okay when i pay for egg fried rice i expect the rice to be fried as stated and have some trace of egg in the rice! The chips i suspect are cooked prior and left as they were like cardboard. The chow mein was inedible as the noodles were crispy! The sweet and sour had a lovely flavour but found it a little hard to chew. The satay sauce was lovely and really tasty. The Prawn crackers did not taste of prawn so they were just fried crackers. Not the Sam`s i remember from a few years back. The search continues to find a great Chinese who delivers.
