We booked direct with The Spread Eagle which was straight forward and easy. On arrival we were met by a very grumpy man who ignored us at first, then repeatedly asked for our name. He then demanded we filled in someone else’s booking form with a different name printed on the top. We were directed to our room. No welcome or apologies given. Our evening meals were not as described on the menu on both nights with no explanations - very disappointing. Throughout our stay we felt like we were an inconvenience and found the staff unfriendly. But, all this said, our room was comfortable and clean.

Just returned from a lovely relaxing night. Checked in and found a lovely room with fridge containing bottled water and fresh milk. Tea / coffee facilities with proper mugs! Had some drinks in the bar which had a lovely cosy vibe before having our evening meal. The roast dinner was lovely. Great portions so had to share a pudding. Bed was very comfy so slept well. Even storm Ashley didn't disturb us. Great shower in the morning followed by a very good breakfast. Highly recommend this place and will be back.

One of the best hotels we have stayed in during our 4 weeks travelling so far. The hotels position is beautiful, the room was large, the bed very comfortable & there were river views from the windows. We had dinner there and the menu offered good choice at an affordable price. Breakfast was also great to start the day. Staff were welcoming and friendly would highly recommend this establishment.

After a frustrating Friday afternoon drive to Sawley in our camper vans— M6 closed in both directions at Standish, my wife and I,together with son and daughter in law were definitely ready for evening meal and a few drinks. We were not disappointed, and though we were an hour late for our table, we were made most welcome and the “ boys” sank a delicious couple of pints of Robinsons Dizzy Blonde.. From the reasonably extensive pub menu we had eg . Black pudding fritters, ham hock terrine, crispy beef and black pudding scotch egg starters and Unicorn beer battered haddock and chips ( surprise, surprise)x3 and chicken parmigiana…all of which was excellent. Suffice to say, we will be there again when in the Sawley area of the Ribble Valley . Thanks to Carol and team for the great service and food and for the informative tour of the pub which we had before our slow stroll back to our campers.

Was warmly welcomed and shown to a table drinks arrived quickly - good menu choice - I ordered Roast belly pork Sunday lunch and my friend ordered Nut roast Sunday lunch with a side of cauliflower cheese- both came fairly quickly my roast belly pork was lovely with crackling lovely roast potatoes mash and vegetables and the cauliflower cheese was scrummy - now comes my friends NUT roast which turned out to be rice with red pepper(more like a risotto) not a NUT in sight? I called the waiter over and complained he said he would speak to the chef (but he did not come back to us nothing) my friend ate everything but the said Nut roast - when another waitress cleared the plates once again I mentioned about the Nut roast her reply was that's how they serve it !!! shocking spoilt our lunch and because of this would not return or recommend.....

I grew up in Stockport so to find a Robinson’s pub this far north of Manchester was a welcome surprise! Staff were very friendly and engaging - particularly towards our dog. The food, although nicely presented and of good quality, is a bit on the steep side (£12 for a fish-finger “butty” in toasted slice bread). And £10.90 for a large glass of Chardonnay with soda was a little eye-watering to say the least. Shame to go on about the price, as the pub is lovely and welcoming, but £50 for a sandwich lunch with just two drinks and a dog snack is a lot.

What a shame, visited here in the past to good food and atmosphere. Sadly no more. Very limited dinner menu, staff walking around not doing anything or having a clue what is going on. Waited over 45 mins for food. The gluten free and children at our table couldn’t really be accommodated, with offering only 2 measly options for them. Very poor. Seats and tables were uncomfortable and dated, toilet hand wash in the men’s wasn’t refilled. Which immediately put me off. I told staff who didn’t seem to be bothered. Food was poor, advertised triple cooked chips which were NOT. Just frozen average oven chips. Peas bland without any flavouring. Steak was rubbery and overcooked. The only decent thing was the drinks from draft. Will not be returning and embarrassing for our friends from Sweden.

My motorsport club chose the Spread Eagle Inn at Sawley as the venue for the Club’s annual dinner on 1st. December. The atmosphere was perfect and the attentive staff were excellent in making sure that everyone had a great evening. This was done discreetly without interrupting the conversation at the tables. The food was excellent and very well prepared. The Orange and Tomato soup was delicious and I was slightly disappointed that ‘seconds’ weren’t offered! I chose lamb flank as my main course, and it was cooked excellently and beautifully presented and other main courses ordered by my friends looked equally appetising. Dogs are welcome at The Spread Eagle and my wife and I received a great welcome when we returned to our bedroom after the meal. The en-suite bathroom had a very large bath and a wonderfully powerful rainfall style shower. In the morning we headed down to a lovely breakfast, served by a very attentive member of staff, with nothing being too much trouble. Cereals, fruit and a ‘full English’ were offered with white, brown and gluten free toast and other options available. I have difficulty walking and a member of staff, seeing me struggling with my suitcase on the stairs offered to help and carried it out to my car which was parked in the hotel car park across the road. This kind action was very welcome. The room rate was on the high side, and I have already booked for next year saving a considerable amount by booking through a popular web app. That was the only disappointing experience of my stay, and the lesson has been learned!

My wife ordered the fish and chips, when it came the batter was not cooked properly. The plate of food was sent back and we were told it would be replaced. When it was returned there was only a piece of fish on the plate, no chips or peas. When this was rectified and the full meal was served I had already long finished my meal. While we were waiting for the replacement meal we ordered a second glass of wine, after a long wait we mentioned that we had not received it and it eventually came. At no time did there seem to be any concern by any of the staff that our experience was far from satisfactory

The young waitress was not able to keep up with the role. We found her chatting behind the bar when there was other customers and I waiting for service. The table next to us left due to waiting 25 for their food order to be taken, they had finished their drinks and there was no apology. It was a good centre for all places of interest in the area. The hotel welcomed dogs and even had a special doggy menu. Did not want to post this review but I provided an online review, as requested by restaurant , but had no response. Went for Sunday lunch with another couple. Stood around for ages before being welcomed and shown to our table. Not terribly busy but there was a large birthday party at an adjacent table. Ordered meals, only main courses, which did take some time to arrive but had no problem with that. When they arrived the two roasts were swimming in “ bisto” gravy more in keeping with a “ Greasy Spoon” café. There were no green vegetables and when requested were told there weren’t any. The salmon was over cooked and the Cumberland sausage and mash, although nicely presented came with braised red cabbage and onion gravy which completely overpowered the meal. No one came to ask us if our meals were OK even when clearing plates which had sizeable amounts left. We asked for sweet menus but they never arrived. Our table was booked from 1.45 with a request to vacate by 3.45 which was fine. However before 2.00 pm staff were starting to clear up and were resetting the restaurant for evening session and as it was obvious we were not going to get sweet menus and felt we were in the way so we had no alternative but to leave. Having travelled some way to visit this establishment to say we were disappointed is an understatement,

Good food, pleasant and engaging staff and a clean environment. Decent selection of beers. We selected the Black Sheep which is always a winner.

It may be regarded as a pub with rooms, but the standard of accommodation puts much bigger hotels to shame. Comfort, spacious rooms, cleanliness and facilities that would do credit to a 4 star hotel. We especially appreciated the individual touches- real milk in a...

Popped in for a pint. Deliciously smooth and flavourful ale that they told me was from Blakburn, so fairly local. Staff very friendly and helpful.

You simply must try their Wednesday chippy night. It’s unbelievable and amazing value at £8! A gorgeous pub and lovely service. I’m very surprised looking at some of the earlier reviews as we have had nothing but excellent service and food each time we visit.

Pre-booked a table in advance- when we arrived we were ignored by the unpleasant woman behind the bar (despite us being the only ones at the bar), we stood and waited for 10 minutes and someone else pushed in front of us and the woman...

Ok service etc. first time out for a year. Disappointed by the lack of fish in the fish pie. More like a potato pie. Been going here for a long time, so hope it is ok next time. My mussels ok.

Spent an evening here with some friends, staying elsewhere. First up, it's uphill, and I mean uphill, to get here but the views and the service were easily worth it. Kaitlyn (really hope I remembered this right) properly looked after us. Thank you.

My wife and I came across this quaint tea shop quite by chance, as it is on the outskirts of the village and laid back from the road behind a small cobbled forecourt. On entering we found it contained eight tables and quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffees and sandwiches which were made to order and absolutely delicious.I shall definitely return and tell my friends about it.Im not certain of the opening hours,so will need to check before I return.I thoroughly recommend it.

Great food, great service, reasonably priced. Would recommend. I ordered the ox cheek pie and husband ordered the fish and chips which were both lovely, being really picky the mash were a bit on the dry side, but I would still recommend.

This was not our first visit to the Calf’s Head but it has to be the best meal we have ever had. It was a large family gathering and despite the size of the party the service was friendly and efficient. Looking forward to a return visit, hopefully not in the too distant future.

I tried to order a full English breakfast without a few items and they wouldn’t swap me anything and tried charging me a extra 1.50 so I thought man 10er for my breakfast that’s a bit steep . So just got bacon and sausage baton and I got one bacon one sausage for 5.50 and to top it off it was cold and chippy sausage. Joke off a place will not be going again . And there is dogs running around in the kitchen
