Sportsmans Arms in South Hams

Stayed in Tuckenhay for a staycation over 4 nights. We ate at the Sportsmans Arms twice it was so good! Food excellent, dog friendly, fantastic service and value for money. Highly recommend.

We were staying at Woodlands Grove campsite and chose the nearest pub for a Sunday evening meal and that was the Sportsmans Arms. We had the carvery and the food was excellent. So we decided to go back as a group on the Thursday for lunch again. It was great service again from the staff and the waitress even came over with a treat for our dog. She said she had 3 huskies and made a fuss of our miniature schnauzer 🥰 Fabulous pub and can definitely recommend.

We were staying in Dartmouth and popped in on the off chance for a Sunday roast, they were very busy, but the staff were very welcoming and found us a place to sit. We had the nut roast with lots of veggies and it was lovely, very friendly and would definitely recommend

Booked a table here for 7pm, just as well we did as it was very busy.we had the fish and chips plus the Mediterranean vegetable tart with a Lemon Posset as a sweet. I must say my wife and I highly recommend eating here.The fish was the best I've ever had and the Vegetable tart was the same standard. The service was extremely good and very friendly and polite. Nicola has the most impressive cutlery drying skills I've ever seen. The amount you get is well worth the money. We'll definitely be booking here again while we are staying nearby.

Food mostly good, couple poor details like quality of pizzas Vs their price and price of non-alcoholic drinks e.g. £££ apple juice and a bad double espresso for £5.80.

Booked a table for 6 whilst on holiday. Everyone loved their starters. However! When it came to the main courses, the medium rare steaks were more like well done, and the well done steak resembled shoe leather. The steaks themselves were not of the quality I was expecting. The onion rings were overcooked to the point of being burnt. Staff were great, but the food is vastly overpriced for the standard you receive.

Great carvery, book though it gets very busy

second meal in a week and absolutley delicious! the carvery sunday was the best carvery we have ever had, so went back today and had roast pork complete with cracking and 6 vegetables. cant wait to return!

Lovely place. Great to take the kids for tea. Play area and outdoor seating was lovely to eat and play at. Unfortunately the food wasn't the best especially for the price! Burgers were dry. Definitely frozen but for £16 a go you'd think it would be fresh. And my spaghetti looked anaemic... other then that lovely place and would go again but would probably Try ordering something else or just go for drinks.

Great pub. Food and service were great. We sat in the garden on a nice sunny day and the kids enjoyed the play area.

Absolutely lovely. Food was outstanding. They have a carvery on Sunday's and you can also order from the main menu too. Service was excellent, friendly staff.

We had the Sunday carvery and I must say it was the best we have had for awhile Can not recommend enough for the price would advise to pre book as can get really busy

I love squid. If there's no alternative I'll order calamari, which l did at the Sportsman. I can't tell you how amazed l was when it arrived. This is not calamari, it's fried baby squid and is absolutely delicious. Please upgrade this on your menu as it was like being in Menorca

Great pub with a good selection of beers, ales & wine. The food was excellent with fantastic desserts. It's a traditional pub & furnishings to match. The staff were friendly & helpful. The pub did cater for wheelchairs.

What a fabulous place, food was out of this world, Sunday roast was THE BEST l have ever had, Went back a few days later and had fish and chips and was extremely good as well. Very helpful and super friendly staff. Many thanks to all the people working there. 5 Stars is not enough.

Super service. Lovely menu. Update.... to be fair it's been a bit or miss lately. The last twice I've had a roast there the potatoes have been very badly burnt and the veg overdone. Still ok though.

We stayed in Dittisham for a week and had three meals at the Sportsman’s Arms. Friendly staff and excellent food. Thoroughly recommended. Dog friendly in the bar area.

A great pub with a good selection of beers, ales and ciders. Really friendly staff who appeared to enjoy working there and interacting with the customers. We came back several times after our first evening meal there we were so impressed. There is a good selection of food too and I think we had managed to work our way through most of the menu during our stay in the area, The pub is dog friendly (not in the restaurant section but the bar area is good and you can eat there). There is a good atmosphere in the bar area, the locals who were there in our visits were friendly.

Dartmouth Radio Club Breakfast Meetings on a Friday mornings at 10:00Hr. Top job.

This is our 3rd visit since arriving 5 nights ago. I think that should be a good start for a review. We have found the staff very friendly and love making a fuss of our dog. The food has always been amazing, very tasty, and plentiful. Struggling with the decision not to have dessert as we know it will be great too. We have had salmon salad, chicken, bacon and leek pie, pizza, plaice with prawns, and new potatoes and salad and bacon and cheese stack burger. Can't say a bad word about any of them. Tomorrow is our last night, so I'm guessing we will be back tomorrow, too.

Miserable weather, but the 🔥 was roaring! Took our 103-yr old mum out for lunch, & the food was good. 2 of us are veggies; the mushroom cobbler was ace!

Rounded off a nice visit to Dartmouth with a very pleasant experience at this very nice country pub. The food was good and reasonably priced, there was lots of space inside and out with good parking too. Overall a very good experience enhanced by friendly staff.

Really excellent, went out of their way to cater for my food allergies. I normally struggle to find a meal but not this time! Superb location with stunning views, made my dog very welcome. Quality of food and service outstanding.

Beautiful place for a meal. Excellent food. Good service and great atmosphere. We've been eating out here for several years. it never disappoints. Had another fabulous meal tonight now the carvery is back on the menu.

Sunday Carvery is a real feast. 3 different roasts with loads of veg! Friendly staff and a great atmosphere.

Fab evening and fantastic carvery

Amazing. The food was incredible, especially recommended the Westcountry bacon burger and the fish and chips, plus the brownie (see picture). The atmosphere was really relaxed and friendly, the bar staff are chatty and happy. Dogs are welcome, on a lead in the bar area. There was a nice small open fire warming the room. We went on a Saturday, but if you want the Sunday carvery, it would be best to book up, it's very popular. Outside the kids play area is very good quality. A great experience.

The Friday breakfast is a must from 9am. Fantastic service and great breakfast. Highly recommend.

We popped into the Sportsmans on a weekday afternoon. It was a spontaneous lunch, unplanned! The food was excellent, there was a warm welcome, and the open fire made us feel cosy. There is plenty of space for diners and beautifully clean and tidy. Beer also excellent, thank you to the 'Sportsmans'

What a fantastic pub! I was staying at Hillfield Village for a week away by myself where I came to the Sportsmans Arms 5 nights out of the 7. Everyone was so welcoming and even though the first night was busy with a large party of guests a table was found for me. The food is out of this world (the chicken dish was my favourite) and reasonably priced with big portions! The carvery was the best one I’ve ever eaten it was amazing. The open fire was fabulous and I loved the traditional feel of the pub. Jaime was lovely and took me back to Hillfield with Gemma (hope I remembered your name right!) on a couple of the nights and it was an adventure walking up with my torch :) Everyone was so friendly with Matt really going out of his way to be especially welcoming. The chefs are amazing and I really am missing coming up for my evening dinner. When I’m next in Dartmouth I will be back. Thank you to everyone for making my stay rememberable :D

Gorgeous, cosy pub with friendly staff and outstanding food... We had the steak and ale pie, and the west country burger; and desserts, we had sticky toffee pudding, banoffee waffles and plum and apple crumble. We all enjoyed our food very much... So glad it's local and I can visit more often.

such a lovely cosy pub, great for families or couples really lovely decoration inside with a log fire in the middle! we felt right at home when we arrived and wasn’t too busy at all which was a shock! food was amazing one of the best meals we’ve had in a while - the steak pie and venison with dauphinois potatoes were just perfect!! great portion sizes and really good value for money - think we spent around £55 for two of us for a main and drink each - and we shared a starter. Good selection of drinks would definitely return if in the area in the future! could not recommend more if you’re staying in dartmouth

Lovely pub, friendly staff, visited on a family holiday. Dog friendly pub and lovely food, recommend the fish and chips and local ice cream. Lots of parking and room to sagely walk dogs iff needed.

Great pub and fabulous Sunday carvery, just like your own home cooked roast, plenty of it too. It's even better now they have put a proper door on the conservatory and have a heater blowing hot air, toasty warm. We love it because we can take our little dog with us and in the summer its great because the kids can play outside in the garden and the dog get a walk. The views are beautiful too and the flowers they have outside in the summer are absolutely gorgeous. 10 out of 10. Staff are all friendly and helpful and it's got a nice relaxing atmosphere 👌 What more can you want. Obviously it can get quite busy so best to book on a Sunday.

Such nice and friendly staff and carvery is a big fat wow for me .. Terry and Keith always make you feel good and all the staff are great and nothing is too much trouble for them to assist you … well Done guys you have a good team !!!

Dined here 22nd September 2023 with a group of six. Food was very good indeed, quantity was generous and prices very fair. Service was spot on. I'm happy to recommend.

Had a really lovely pizza here a couple of weeks ago while we were on holiday. It was mid week so it wasn't busy and it was September. We've visited the sportsman's arm a few times when we've been in Devon and it's always been excellent. Nice staff and a relaxing atmosphere.

Sunday carvery was really good. Great meat portion, and the crackling was really good. Continually being topped up with fresh food.

Last time we came here was 4 years ago after visiting Woodlands. We wanted to visit again, it was extremely busy when we got there & staff were working hard to keep up. We were shocked that carvery was now £16 per person, prices have certainly shot up since last visit. Carvery was nice, but nothing exceptional, plus serving staff on carvery were pretty grumpy.

Traditional pub atmosphere & service with a smile, food was of a high standard & dog friendly which is a bonus! Will definitely revisit when holidaying again in Dartmouth.....

Been here three times this week 1st off for some drinks and then Friday morning for breakfast and finally today for Tea. Absolutely amazing. If your in the area I would recommend stopping here. The food is amazing and the staff are lovely. Nothing is too much for them.

Our car broke down, and we arrived just after the kitchen closed. The chefs still made us a great fish and chips, and one of the waiters drove us back to the place we were staying. Lovely pub, great staff and great regulars. Everyone really keen to help. Will def be popping back in next time we are down this way.

Accommodated our allergies easily, always the sign of actually cooking the food. Really lovely food and plenty of it. Looking at the meals coming out of the kitchen the whole menu looked wonderful! 😋

Carvery was fantastic as always . Just really annoying that they said they would let us know when to go up and basically when other dishes came for other friends we they went up and queued and by the time we got to table they had nearly finished. Really annoying and led to no tip whatsoever

Great relaxing atmosphere. Staff are very helpful and even get the kids drinks out for them to choose from. Handy being right next to the road to Dartmouth. Massive car park that can accommodate cars with caravans. Perfect venue if you want to celebrate an occasion. Bus stop right outside. Huge beer garden with a decent children’s climbing frame with slide and tunnel and enclosed from the road.

We only went for drinks to meet up with cousins from Manchester, staff were friendly, lots of room inside will go back and try the food.
