I went to Spittal Inn with my Gran and we had the Sunday carvery. My Gran likes to have a few types of meat and they were happy to accommodate her. I am vegetarian but was able to have either a vegetarian meal or a plate for the carvery provided with vegetarian gravy. We both really enjoyed the food, the desserts were fantastic and the coffee was really good too. There is also a small Victorian style arcade with local produce and antiques as well as quirky shops inside. After we had eaten we had a walk and bought some cakes fresh bread and fresh pies from the bakery. Well worth a visit we would both highly recommend!

Rang to book table for 6 but later changed to 8 they were extremely helpful. We sat in snug. They were quick with table service of drinks and the menu was big enough for everyone to find something to eat. Never been before but definitely come again. Pub grub was lovely and tasty. Exactly what I was expecting and more lovely place.

You will see from my previous reviews that I don’t give bad reviews as I’m keen to support local independent businesses, but I couldn’t let this pass... Having visited previously, at August bank holiday, I thought that the manageress was just under pressure and short on patience. (Despite using the facilities in the less than comfortable family annex). We had a couple of children alongside a dozen + adults staying in the locality but her reception was frosty to say the very least! Having arranged a NY catch up we called in for a pre-meal drink before our partners and friends joined us. We were served our drinks and sat at the bar with my two nephews as all the other rooms were empty. The barmaid was very pleasant and the manager made no issue with us. The manageress was in the bar for literally seconds before making it clear the children weren’t welcome... it was blamed on our actions being illegal. As a lawyer and bar owner respectively we held a differing view, drank our drinks and left not to return again. Perhaps amended signage that states children are strictly not allowed in the bar would avoid such a poor experience, as we did specifically check for information on our visit today to try and avoid the August experience. When a young child says independently that “...the lady was very rude...” it brings perspective to a situation.

Called in today on the way to Scarborough hoping they could find room for us for the carvery. They found us a table and we had an excellent carvery. We had all 4 meats between the two of us and they were all great as were the veggies and Yorkshire pudding on its own plate! Very friendly, very helpful and good food.

Me and my family visited her this morning, we are local and had never been before so decided to give it a go. We went to let the children have a play in the playground before we went in for something to eat. There was a Large wooden Fort with a large slide which my son was playing on, and he wanted his dad to go up and have a look and go down the slide. Now my husband is in no way a large man, and as he was coming down the slide, a man out of nowhere appeared shouting at us saying "would you pay for that if you broke it, no you wouldn't, your sort don't, you'd just walk away". I asked him what he meant by our sort, but all we got was a barrage of abuse. This was totally unacceptable in front of my children. We then said we were going to go in and have lunch but wouldn't bother beacuse of his behaviour, and he said good, you should just go. Had we been behaving like louts I would have understood. But to speak to us like that was totally out of order. So I can't comment on food, as we didn't get that far! What made things worse was this man was the owner of the place. Needless to say I will in no way reccommend or visit this asstablishment again.

Called in here a couple of times and what a gem of a place this is. The landlord and staff very welcoming and the food was great. I can highly recommend the battered haddock, the batter was one of the best I have had, crispy to the end. My husband could not fault his meal of the lamb shank on a bed of creamy mash. Another bonus is that it is very dog friendly too so our best mate can join us. Will definitely keep returning.

Having visited this pub about four years ago and been disappointed it was a pleasure to walk into it this time. The bar area was warm and the staff welcoming. We were taken through to the very pleasant restaurant area which was clean, well decorated and well presented. The young waitress was very polite, enthusiastic and efficient. From the extensive menu my colleague had a burger, chips and salad which he said was excellent. I had Steak and Ale Pie, Chips and veg. Now this is personal preference, I'm not keen on the separate cooking of a puff pastry lid being put on top of a dish of steak and ale. I much prefer a pie cooked together with its pastry top. But as I said it's my choice and what I had was excellent. We both finished off with Syrup sponge and custard which was lovely. The bill including a couple of drinks came to £39. Bargain! All the staff including those we assumed to be the landlord and landlady were extremely friendly and no doubt we will be visiting again.

Probably the nicest dinner experience accompanied by our dog whilst on holiday. Warmly welcomed by the Landlord and shown to the room designated for customers with dogs. The Landlord gave us the menus & kindly took our drinks order which was promptly delivered by the friendly Landlady.who also took our food order. The generous portions of prawn cocktail and sticky ribs starters, were lovely. The freshly cooked mains of good quality fillet steak were hot, superbly cooked and accompanied by fresh chips, tomatoes, mushrooms, a large jug of peppercorn sauce and garden peas. The only complaint was that we had no room for deserts and we had not visited earlier on in the week! The patrons were extremely friendly and pleasant who chatted to us and made a fuss of our dog. Options to dine in the bar area or restaurant with separate bar room for customers with their 4 legged friends. We will return on our next visit, to try other options on the extensive menu.and experience such a lovely atmosphere, great food and pleasant hospitality. Highly recommended.

We were on holiday in Filey and wanted an evening meal for 5 adults and 2 children, one of the adults is a vegetarian so we choose our places quite carefully. We arrived one time and our table was ready, the 2 kids went off to play outside on the swings while we ordered and had a pre dinner drink. The starters we ordered were lovely and arrived promptly but there was a wait for the main course which was explained later. My rib eye steak was as good as I have ever had, tender, flavoursome and perfectly cooked, my daughters gammon, my wifes chicken, son in laws lamb shank were all reported as being excellent and very healthy portions, the vegetarian burger was said to be okay but not exceptional and she would choose on of the other vegetarian options next time we visit. The kids meals were just what they wanted, 3 sweets followed a couple more drinks and a coffee. The bill was an unbelievable £117, I have paid much, much more for food well below the standard set by the Spital Inn. The service was good and the wait staff very pleasant and the owner took the trouble to come round, apologise for the delay in our main course being served and explain that 2 staff had not turned up for work and he had been filling in. We all get problems in business but by taking the trouble to speak to us in person he has ensured that we will return.

A bit off the beaten track this little restaurant is on the A64 about 7 miles from Scarborough. We didn't know what to expect from it, it looked fake old fashioned from the outside but it was open and in the right place. It was fantastic.Excellent food ( not too cheap but not expensive either ). Beautifully clean and very quirky this little place has everything going for it. You need to try the nachos for a taste experience. The fish gougan was crisp, tasty and downright perfect. This place is open for camping as well as offering restaurant quality food. We stayed here for a week in August in our touring caravan with four children aged 11-15. I like to review places open and honestly so here you go:Pub: Fabulous quaint little country pub with a small bar area and separate family room. It's like stepping back in time! Dogs are welcome and there are tables outside for when the sun is shining. The staff are friendly and the conversation is always flowing.Restaurant: We ate as a family of eight - with parents. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Orders were taken swiftly and drinks were served soon after ordering. Food was cooked fresh and to our liking. It was absolutely delicious.Camping: Location: POSITIVES - Ideal location for Scarborough, York, Filey. Bridlington, Whitby and all the popular tourist destinations the North Yorks area has to offer. Easy to find, right off the A64. NEGATIVES: Quite close to a main road so traffic noise may cause you an issue, but it didn't really bother us.Site: POSITIVES: Massive field with EHU and fresh water / waste disposal area. Separate members area. Gazebos allowed. Dog friendly. No extra charges for children / awnings (which is a great point!) Pub and restaurant on site. Tea room serving breakfast and lunches. Toilets and showers are cleaned often (Can become grassy in the mornings, but that is to be expected). NEGATIVES: There are only three showers for ladies and two showers for men. This can cause queues at busy times. The showers have clearly had a lot of money spent on them recently, as they are of impeccable quality, however, they lack a shower curtain between the shower and your changing area, and so your clothing can get quite wet while you're getting dressed. Showers are operated on a "push button" unit, and the water flows for 18 seconds before cutting out so lots of time is spent pressing the button for more water. It's not a deal breaker, but it's easily fixed. In all, we absolutely LOVE this site. The owners, Sandra and Alan have clearly worked hard to make your camping experience a pleasure.# There is no shop on site, so if you run out of milk, you would need to drive about ten minutes to the nearest garage / shop. Will definitely return.

The menu looked quite interesting as it had the usual pub fare plus a couple of different items. We chose the blackened Cajun spice fish and the stuffed peppers. The fish was over spiced and the peppers had no flavour, shame they could've moved some spice from the fish to the peppers and both dishes would've been better. Also the prices are quite high.

We called here on one of those rare british summer evenings when it is actually warm enough to eat outdoors. The blond lady behind the bar was very welcoming and the bar area was spotless. We took a table outside which was lovely although the restaurant is adjacent to the very busy A64 the clever screening of green trees and shrubs block it and the traffic noise effectively. Our meals arrived swiftly, piping hot and quite large portions we settled down to enjoy our meals, the setting and the summer sunshine. Unfortunately then the adjacent table's occupants all lit up closely followed by the owners and staff taking the table on the other side and subsequently all lit their cigarettes. Trying to eat our meals in a cloud of smoke marred what would otherwise have been a pleasant experience. Maybe just us being fussy.

When we were asked if we'd like pudding I asked if we could see a menu, the hostess said that was fine and she'd send a waitress with one, to which she arrived to tell us that she was the "menu "!!All that to ine side the food was delicious, lots of veg to choose from and the puddings were fantastic.

When the spittle Inn do it. You arrive, sit down, order drinks, ok, Then you are told that you must be told when you go to the carvery for your food. Thats ok as the place is fairly full. But when you have waited for 20 minutes and only 4 people have been to the carvery in that time you think you have misunderstood and you get up and go to carvery. A waiteress who up to that point managed make you think you are invisible rushes up to you to tell you must wait your turn. No wonder the place is busy you must not leave you seat for the first hour to start lunch. We decided not to stay as we might have still been there at midnight. The when we went to pay for 2 halves of carling that we left half drunk we where charged £4.500

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.
