Easy to book and pre-order. Ambience welcoming and festive. All of the staff were on point-professional, attentive, personable and friendly. The starter, mackerel, was delicious, Christmas lunch with all the trimmings was flavoursome and filling and my sweet was heavenly treacle tart. Coffee was genuinely delicious. This has to be a year of exceptional students especially Finn.

We had a really fabulous eve here last night. We had a 7 course meal, the food was amazing plus the Lemon Arms from Mylar we’re singing. The staff, especially Beth did an amazing job, all very professional. We are definitely going to go again.

We have eaten at the Spires before and always been very happy with both the food and service but today really needed to be commented on, it was spectacular. I started off with pigeon breast which was so tasty and beautifully presented one of my fellow eaters had the mackerel which she loved. All four of us chose the hogget as our main and were all bowled over, it was served two ways, plainly sliced then pulled and layered with boulangere potatoes served with carrots and kale and with a sauce! Absolutely fantastic. Thank goodness I then decided to have a dessert even though I was very full. I had an egg custard tart served with roasted rhubarb and orange with a little sauce, it was divine, the pastry very thin and crispy, just superb. Well done everyone, loved it xx PS forgot to say the service was excellent too. PPS believe it or not this was under £10 !!!

Another super lunch a Spires Restaurant. The food and service is just so good. You are welcomed by the students, offered drinks and looked after in a professional and friendly manner. The dining area is spotless and the food is so innovative and creative that the whole experience is exceptional. My wife and I are retired and eat out regularly and in some expensive 'trendy' pub/restaurants in Cornwall. I can honestly say that the food in Spires in the best in the area. We are now and always will be 'regulars'. Congratulations to all the staff and students. Many thanks.

We treated ourselves to the special retro steak night menu lately. There were offers for 2 or 3 courses, offering great value for money. The servers were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The coffee was strong and hot and the food was excellent. The Diane sauce for the sirloin steak was exceptional. There were modern twists on classic dishes, such as the deconstructed trifle for dessert. Alongside classic prawn cocktail and an intriguing cauliflower steak option.

This lovely little hidden gem in the centre of Truro not at the college site is lovely the service is always fast and efficient. The food is excellent today I had a ploughman's and the wife had a turkey salad both delicious and excellent value for money. Would recommend anyone visiting Truro to try right across from the theory test centre inside Truro college business centre.

We gave the Spiers a go whilst visiting Truro on a rainy day! Made a booking via the phone for 12:30.we were seated in a lovely restaurant on some lovely corner seats with open views of the serving area. Menu is limited but good that's because it's a training school at heart. The wife had a two course meal for £7.50 I had a 3 course for £9.50 I had 2 pints of beer £3 each The wife had a lovely large glass of zesty white wine £3 The portions of food in each course are very good and all was perfectly cooked and presented We will 100 percent be going back

We had a most enjoyable evening at Spires Acoustic evening. Food was good especially the bouillabaisse which was a delight. Starters were good as were the deserts, the menu offered enough choice for most who like to try something that they would normally not prepare at home on a Thursday evening. The cost of the meal represents good value for money and the portions leave you not feeling bloated as quality is preferred to quantity. The wine is reasonably priced and the Coreto from Portugal is a wine I have grown to like. All in all a good experience and one I will repeat. The entertainment was relaxed and allowed for conversation without the need to shout across the table. All in all a very pleasant evening.

We were at the College for the Open Day so we popped in for lunch. There was a good choice of salads, jacket potatoes and Ham, Egg & Chips. It was fairly busy but we did not have to wait for a table and the service was professional, quick and friendly. The coffee was strong and freshly made and there was a large selection of cakes, biscuits and buns to go with it if you wanted a snack or treat. We took some cakes home as we were too full after the generous lunch to eat any straight after. Extremely good value at around £5 each the lunch was very good and we will definitely go again. If I was on a course at the college I would be there at least once a week it was so good.

I visited Spires at the end of June this year when the students were finishing their courses. The food was excellent, and the menu very well put together, it was clear the students really enjoyed their courses and running the restaurant. Service was also excellent and very attentive. I only paid £9.50 for 3 very substantial courses and this was all served very efficiently with only a small wait on each course. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or a special occasion. Cant wait to visit again!

I have tried to visit Spires during the Summer but was disappointed as I believe it only opens during term time but can't wait to return. The food was first class and sourced from quality suppliers. The menu showed originality and the food was beautifully cooked and professionally served. The students have been taught to a very high standard and in every way would out-class many a high street restaurant.

After enquiring about a course at the college I went to the restaurant for lunch. It was amazing.I felt very well looked after and the place was very well laid out, with the tables looking very pretty. There were linen napkins and a full place setting as well as glasses ready for use. There was a limited choice, which I understand changes daily, but it was possible to have a full three course meal if you wanted to. I intended to only have a main but gave in to temptation for dessert after seeing what the next table ordered. It was very good and extremely good value for the quality.I will definitely be going back to try something different very soon.

My wife and I visited Spires training restaurant one evening at Truro College with some friends, we were not sure what to expect as this was the first time we dined at one of the jazz evenings.Well, we were shown to our table, seated, fed and treated to lovely food and very good service, considering that the young waitresses and waiters were in training as were the level three chefs that were also undergoing training from their Lecturers. The jazz music for that evening was NOT! overpowering and we could still hold a relaxed conversation. The food was POSH! the wine delicious and the atmosphere was nice. So, OK! now for the bill, just, I feel, a little on the high side considering that it is a College training restaurant, this maybe due to having a well known entrepreneurial TV chef as a figurehead, he is rather good though but not as far as I was aware in residence that evening.Overall a very nice experience, you will have to book though and get in there quickly before the end of the College year. Well done to them all.

Went with very high expectations on food side and was not disappointed - food is excellent. As you might expect, serving staff are youngsters learning which is interesting in itself and you can see them much more focused than ordinary restaurant staff.Place does lack the atmosphere of a restaurant as it has something of an office feel as part of the College, but very good live music was laid on to try to address that. Some hiccups on serving, but of no concern as you feel for staff learning in this environment. A big issue I found though was multiple attempts at ordering a coffee that was advertised on the coffee/bar area. Seems a gap in training and had to give up eventually.Did not ruin evening as clearly a lot of effort by everyone involved and food was exceptional. Good pricing as well.

Having sampled this restaurant in Nov 2013 I ate here with friends in December 2014 - the Christmas menu £13.50 was for 3 courses including coffee. Had butternut squash soup, usual turkey roast followed by iced raspberry parfait. Unfortunately there was very little meat on the plate. The best part was the sweet. I know this is a training kitchen so you have to be forgiving in places but I still cannot rate this establishment any higher at this stage.

I really enjoyed my meal today. The menu was very good and was excellent as they had taken into note that some people may be vegetarian. It is a very good price for the portions you get. I was very happy with my lunch meal out. Would defiantly recommend.

Having eaten in this restaurant I was delighted not only at the quality of the food, but the price was outstanding. £12 for a three course meal.Beef Bourguignon was full of tender braised stake with a rich beefy sauce infused with mushrooms onion and a taste of garlic. The trainees were marvellous and well directed by the staff, water was always full and drinks flowing. For a training restaurant the college should be commended.

Spires Restaurant is a new restaurant situate in Allen Building of Truro College. Its very modern with a kitchen which is open to view. The restaurant is open to the public (not every day so you will need to ring and check first). The restaurant is a training facility for the professional cookery students at the college. Myself and friends tried it out last week for lunch - you can have 2 or 3 courses. We went for 2 courses - mains of cheese/cranberry soufflé with leeks and a salad followed by individual black forest desserts. One of our party opted for pigs cheek followed by almond pannacotta. With a bottle of mineral water the two courses and water came to £7.10 so quite reasonable. I understand the restaurant is licensed and is open some evenings as well. Bearing in mind this is a new venture and is finding its feet and you are being served by students who are learning the profession it was a good lunch experience.

Just had The Drake and the Mrs Perryman. Both came with plenty of chips, the actual duck dishes were outstanding, really nice. We will be returning to try another dish when we return next year. We were lucky to have crispy skin as well. We spotted the sign for the duck Truck while we were driving to our cottage in Tintagel and decided to give it a go during our stay. We were not disappointed. Top local produce, by the farmer. Keep up the good work, we'll be back
