We have used this establishment a fair few times and had not had any issues until tonight. We arrived a party of 4 and had not booked a table, it was 5.15pm we were told we could have a table but there was a booking at 7pm for it, we said that would be fine. We ordered food and drink, the dishes were collected while some of our party were still eating!! Then at 6.15pm we were brought the bill and told we needed to vacate the table to get ready for the next sitting, there were only 2 other people in the whole place. I paid and was asked if I was ok, I said no and was asked why, I said I would have liked a pudding and was told by the shortest member of staff that I was lucky to have had a table at all. The food was lovely but the customer service was shocking.

Excellent evening out at Spicy Aroma, the starters were great - poppadoms fresh and crunchy with fresh chutneys especially liked the zingy lime chutney. Starters of onion bhajis and mixed kebab - 4 nice crispy bhajis and tender chicken and lamb( so often lamb in Indian restaurants is very tough but this was lovely and tender). Mains of Chicken Madras and Chicken Korai, both meals had a good amount of chicken which was so tender you could cut it with the side of your fork. Particularly liked the korai sauce which was nicely spiced and very flavoursome. Best curry we have had out for years.

Group of 8 all had great night out having different meals which were all very tasty. I've been here several times before and will definitely be again.

Disappointed won’t go again. Stale poppadoms. Main meal was ok, lamb over cooked. The most miserable older man serving the food, we were made to feel like we were an annoyance. Another waiter banged our drinks down on the table.

We came here twice, not long after we moved into the area, and only went the second time because the first was opening night, and we wanted to give them a chance. Ten years we've been here, so we thought we'd try again. Big mistake!!! First the good points. Probably the best poppadoms I've ever tasted. The mains arrived in a timely fashion, and we're hot. Well, that's about it really... Everything else was average at best, and the pièce de résistance was the pudding. Well the photo looked nice - a chocolate ice cream with a sauce, topped with a Ferrero Rocher, with the hint of a couple of spare ones, dotted around the plate. What arrived was a dried out cow pat that had been sitting at the back of the fridge for days, maybe weeks. It was ugly, stale and even the sauce was rock hard. It even contained a hazel nut that I thought was a broken filling at first! And it's not as if it's even cheap! Sorry, but you've had more than your fair share of chances now. We won't be coming back. Awful.

We live in Churchdown but have only recently started ordering from them. Top quality meat, delicious curries and sides and delivered quickly. Well done Spicy Aroma this is the way to keep customers 👍

Cancelled my order after being spoken to like an idiot on the phone. I wanted to pay by card before asked me for my card number he told me to hurry up as he's got people wating on the phone.. my line was crackling so he got annoyed and told me to pay cash on delivery so I told him where to stick his food. I've sensed attitude when I was there before picking up a takeaway.. terrible staff terrible restaurant.

Had a lovely meal with the family. This place is excellent value for money and as nice as any I have tried in Gloucester. I love the funky décor - the big round table was perfect as no one is left sitting on the end! Service was paced just ring with a little time to chat between courses. Would recommend this place.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Just had the worst experience ever! We came for an after work dinner, we’re in the trade we understand when people come in at the end but we had plenty of time to order. If it was a problem we should of been told to take it away however they decided to serve us.. we took about 3 mouthfuls and was told to hurry up and get out, got tutted at when accidentally dropped a fork and used another, kept getting stared at and when it came to the bill decided to add on more money! We asked for a takeaway container to get out their way as we were disgusted in the way we were treated! Will never be back and would advise everyone else to AVOID!!

Tried for first time tonight. Meal was good just a shame the take away queuing next to people sat in eating. Prices have gone up since they’ve updated on website too. Friendly staff and nice clean restaurant.

Food is always good but their delivery times are awful. Never on time! We usually pre order at 5pm to arrive for 6:30-7pm. Usually 40mins late on a good day. Which is such a shame as food is god.

I'm very surprised at the last review. We live in Churchdown and have eaten and had take always from here many times. Always good and tasty. The menu is a little different from other Indian restaurants but still has the old favourites. Easy parking at the back. It's good to have something of this quality so near.

I came across a adverts for spicy aroma on Facebook user groups for the local area I decided to give it a go Right from the get go the person on the phone was polite and helpful I ordered the chicken chat to start very nice I had the chicken korai for main asked for it to be made spicier how I like it and I really enjoyed it great flavours and fresh accompanied with a Garlic Nan Thank you for a really pleasant experience will be going back I have already recommended these guys to my friends and family.

Best vindaloo in town. Excellent food, I travel 8 miles to get my takeaways from here. Haven't tried many of the dishes on the menu but the ones I have had were very good.

1) The restaurant is owned by a Bangladeshi. Yelp should correct this huge misrepresentation. 2) The owner (male) is a good person and cares for customers. The lady is a VERY sneaky and sweet-talking diplomat, dishonest and always resorts to switch-and-bait tactics such as giving not just less but actually half the normal quantity, giving stale exposed snacks instead of frying fresh from the freezer, surreptitiously including old rice and stale, smelly chicken with the biryani, cunningly using a tablespoon to compensate more rice instead of using the regular big spoon she just used to start filling the biryani order upon my asking why the quantity was half the normal, etc. , and overcharging on top, not presenting the detailed bill. She shortchanges on the quantity of all dishes, even vegetables. So now I buy only when the owner is in the shop and I tell him I do not wish the lady to touch my orders. He just remains quiet instead of correcting such behaviour once and for all. 3) Food is ok in quality but for such a run-down place the prices are on par with better Indian restaurants. 4) The city Health Department should check the quality of the "chicken" in the Friday biryani Special which smells rotten and makes you feel like puking. 5) When the owner is in solely and handles your entire order, I would raise the rating to 3 stars.

We ordered our New Years Eve supper at 5pm to collect it at 8pm. On arrival, our order was clearly not ready and we had to wait until 9.25pm for the food. Being given free beers did not appease us as service was rude,there were no apologies or discount for the delay, and the staff seemed intent on getting as many orders as possible without considering whether they could fulfill them. Many people were waiting over an hour for their prebooked orders. This lack of service ruined our evening.

Superb food. I chose biryani for takeaway. Wow! The rice was light and fresh, the chicken was cooked to perfection, and the curry was delicious. Best I've ever had.

I can't understand why this place is so quiet (although it was a Thursday). Food is always just right for me and value for money means I cam come more often.

Love their food, especially the Jenna prawn, I tend to order this as an extra to our usual takeaway. We’ve had full meals here too and never been disappointed. The restaurant is modern and clean and the service is impeccable. Highly recommended

I've been here a few times, and the most important point I feel is that everything is better during the week. Monday-Thursday (especially at the start of the week) there is not many people, so the service is efficient and friendly, and the portion size of the food is good. However this all changes at the weekend. They seem to only have a small kitchen, so at the weekend expect a long wait. They also have many takeaways as well, which doesn't help things. At the weekend the service is slow and rushed, and I think the quality and quantity of the food is reduced to keep up with the demand. Don't get me wrong, its a nice place, and good value. It's just a shame they don't have the kitchen size and staff to cope with bigger numbers.

We have been enjoying coming to the Spicy Aroma for several years now. Reason?Well, it's just amazing! Excellent food, spotlessly clean, pleasant staff, and a lovely romantic ambience. Lovely soft lighting. Whatever your tastes, the menu has something for everyone and the prices are favourable too! They made my favourite starter chilli paneer into a main course for me and I enjoyed a spinach and cheese pakora for starters instead. My husband had one of the hot ones with a cheese and onion naan and a saag side dish. All set in the delightful village of Churchdown with car parking nearby. It's not hard to see why it's our favourite. So try it for yourselves. I went there only last night so this review is bang up to date!!

Had an absolutely stunning meal here this evening. Could not fault it at all even though they were very very busy. Will definitely be back.

So we usually love this Indian. We travel from cheltenham to see our friends and dine here or get a takeout. Shocked tonight at the poor quality of the food! The keema nan and the seek kebab tasted rancid. We couldn’t eat it. The curry we had was very watery. Such a shame. Won’t order or visit again. Felt cheated!

Had takeaway for 5 people, ordered by phone, arrived to collect at time stated, had to wait a short while but that was fine.StartersVeg samosa okMixed starter lacking in seasoning, more oil than previously and very few onions.Prawn puri ok, but sauce a bit sparse.Fish pakora looked ok, but in reality, lots of batter and very little fish, which was dry and tasteless. Very disappointing!MainsVegetable Kormahad a few pieces of potato and the occasional piece of onion and a lot of sauce. Distinctly lacking in variety and quantity of veg.Chicken ChettinadThis was a major fail, was pre-cooked chicken tikka, think it had then been battered or coated and deep fried. I have lost count of the number of visits we have made to this lovely restaurant and we are never disappointed. Service is always attentive and friendly; portions of food are generous and delicious and the restaurant itself has a calming and intimate atmosphere.

I’ve been coming to Spicy Aroma for a fair few years now and I have to say the staff and the food has always been brilliant. For the first time on Friday I ordered a takeout and collected it. I wasn’t sure how it would work out but I called, placed the order with ease and arrived 25 minutes later to collect and didn’t even have to wait more than 5 minutes to collect my food. Outstanding service.

We had another great meal at Spicy Aroma when we were visiting Gloucestershire. The quality of the food is first rate and we always have a good experience when we eat there.

This was not my first trip to the Spicy Aroma and as always, I was not disappointed with the food or service.

Eaten here a few times both sitting in and take away. Each time the food has been of a high standard. If I had a gripe (and it's only a minor one) is that the service can sometimes be a little slow.

Went with the usual group of friends, it was a large group, booked weeks in advance and reconfirmed before we arrived.

Always had excellent meals and staff are excellent aswell.

Sadly I feel that the Spicy Aroma has gone down hill. I hope it was just a 'bad night' when we visited. The main grumble was the fluidity of the staff and how we were served. It was although it was the first night of all the staff there. The best way to describe the service was clumsy! Starters coming out five minutes apart. Items requested not given to the table, just little gripes, but ones that when compounded makes for quite an annoying meal.

I ate here recently and my first impressions were a bit negative, it was very dim inside and could barely see the menu, our starters arrived timely but we then had quite a wait for the next course to arrive however the food was tasty and well cooked, the meals were a little hotter than the same I had had in previous establishments. Hemos visitado este restaurante en varias ocasiones y la calidad y variedad de platos es siempre bueno. El pasado 3 veces que hemos estado en un grupo de 8 o más y en las horas punta. Tardaron más de 1 1 / 2 horas de sentarse a conseguir nuestra comida, sólo se puede comer tantas poppadoms. Fue la noche lat 2 horas. Buena comida, pero si en un grupo grande prepárate para esperar.

Este es un moderno restaurante indio agradablemente decorado con un extenso menú. La comida está bien de precio, bien presentado y sabroso. El servicio es atento, educado y puntual.

El personal es acogedor, el servicio es estupendo y la comida para morirse; incluso el pickle lime sirve con poppadoms es especial. Several visits to this very friendly restaurant the staff are friendly and helpful. Certainly recommend this to families in early evening. Parking is easy and free, and the drinks are served from the club bar next door, so good range of drinks on offer. Overall a good experience and the price is reasonable.

We were visiting Churchdown from Canada & our hosts took us to this lovely restaurant for a meal out. The facility is very beautiful, clean and tastefully decorated. The menu is extensive and very interesting, and the dishes we ordered were exceptional. We very much enjoyed our evening out and highly recommend this restaurant to others looking for a fine Indian dinner.

5 of us went here on a Thursday night after work. We didn't book and turned up at 7.00. Place was not to busy and got a table without issues. Staff were attentive and price of food was reasonable. Couldn't fault the food at all we all enjoyed it. Would recommend it and will definitely go back.

We booked a table but picked a Friday night. Obviously the place is gaining a reputation for good food and therefore the amount of people going is increasing which meant they didn't quite have enough staff on to meet the demands of a full house. Therefore drinks and food took a while to come. But when it did, the food is lush. All in all nothing is that expensive and its about £40 for two with starters and mains and drinks. Therefore, make it a mid-week visit if you want faster service, but the place is very nice inside, very modern and nice staff.. we didn't have the experience of them being grumpy a previous reviewer had... we will be going back, but not on a weekend. Recommended.

We have had many delicious takeaways/deliveries from Spicy Aroma and thought it was about time to try the restaurant - after a lovely evening there we wished we had done it sooner! The restaurant itself is well-decorated with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. Our food was excellent - a good choice on the menu, freshly prepared and delicious to eat! Delicious freshly cooked food. Good value. Portion sizes just right, and they do desserts. Staff are friendly, toilets are clean and spacious.

We usually get the set meal for two as a takeaway, its not available in the restaurant. This meal is fantastic and the portions are brilliant (Leftovers make lunch at work the next day), this makes it excellent value for money.

This is a lovely Indian restaurant/takeaway! Food is always fresh and tasty and my order is always correct with no mistakes. You can call up and place an order to pick up and the staff are very friendly and efficient.

I had a curry, rice and naan as a take away and it was superb. Rice was fragrant and perfectly well cooked. The chicken curry was spicy, thick sauce with plenty of good quality chicken. The peshwari naan was full of fruit and coconut and the perfect accompaniment. I am definitely going back for another meal.

Just home from another wonderful evening at the Spicy Aroma. All our meals were delicious and yes we had to wait for them but it's worth it to get freshly cooked food that does not have a layer of grease on the top! Seven of us fitted in one of the circular booths that we love...definitely best seats in the house. We have never tried a take-out but that's next on our list!'

Had a nice meal here, food quality was good to excellent and could not grumble with the service. There was a delay issue with the payment machine which operates on the mobile signal but nothing that spoilt our meal, would recommend this to anyone wanting a good quality Indian meal.

As a transgender person, you sometimes expect a bit of trouble giving telephone orders and I am happy to explain that I am transgender and that is why my voice is a bit different.But when the person on the other end of the phone insists on calling you sir, states that he has never heard of anyone being transgender and then accuses you of pretending to be a woman in order to get free food, then they really have overstepped the mark.

The food was okay, not the best that i've had but the displays ,decorations and furniture make it look modern, clean and stylish.

I consider myself fortunate to have this gem on my doorstep. As a frequent traveller I eat a lot of indian Food and for my tastes this rates amongst the best. The only down side is service can be slow, but if you are happy to sit back and enoy a drink (served from the Churchdown Club so includes draught real ale) the wait is worthwhile.

Was very disappointed after reading all the good reviews here I thought I'll try this place out. Went there on a Thursday night . Only few tables. We were welcomed at the door but then took 20mins to take drink order and the food took over 40mins to come. I would except if it was Friday or Saturday but it was Thursday and only two tables. The food was bland and tasteless Would not go back

I was recently had a meal with some friends at this establishment, I was very upset at the service I received, initially we were left waiting for a table when the whole restaurant was near enough empty, Then the drinks were served in dirty glasses - when I asked the waiter to change them he looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language! - when he himself barely spoke English!The Food was not hot more warm and the waiting time was far too long.To be fair me or my friends 2 of which are regulars have decided not to go back, when we approached the management we were asked to settle down ! to top it all off we were told that they can not accept a card payment and to go to the cash machine if possible!The whole evening was ruined by the attitude of the staff and horrible food. I will be sharing this with all my colleagues and friends so they do not get treated this way and steer well clear of this premises.

I've been to SA several times and the food is always very nice. However the service was pretty dire on my last visit. We waited half an hour to order and a further hour and a half for the food to arrive. Other customers looked like they were having similar experiences; at one point I couldn't see anyone eating! The staff were not even apologetic when our food finally came. As a local I'll try to give it a second chance but I'd like to see a bit more emphasis on service.

We have eaten here many times now since receiving a menu through the door mid 2014. The food and service has always been good and we have even introduced friends to the Spicy Aroma. We have always been able to get a table and have never left disappointed or hungry. Have often been tempted to try a take-away but my husband likes to take the opportunity of a draught beer. We have always paid by credit card and have never had a problem. We don't always eat here as we like to try different places but it is reliable, local and I'm sure we'll visit again very soon.

Food is nice it's a shame this place is let down by rude staff and the fact you can't pay by card at the end. this has happens on 2 occasions in the last 3 week once to me and and also to my friend!! I don't think the comment made by a member or staff "people should carry cash" is really acceptable who pays in cash anyway these days RUDE RUDE RUDE they need a lesson on customer service!!!

Visited Spicy Aroma a week or so before Christmas with my husband, son and daughter, having been numerous times before. The food is always fab, tasty and NOT GREASY! Which a lot of Indian food is. My favorites are the mushroom rice, chicken shashlik and shali. The service was freindly as usual and very prompt.The restaurant is pleasant and the cloakrooms are spotless..Tripadvisor to me is not just for people to have a good whinge it is also so that establishments can learn from feedback. (Someone in our family owns a Hotel and they had loads of comments saying sheets and blankets are old fash. They now have duvets in all rooms!) My point is that Spicy Aroma has had a few comments saying the service is slow and I think they have taken notice. By the way the food always tastes fresh so its going to take time. Well done Robbie and your staff we always enjoy it!

The badminton players moved from the Churchdown Club and into The Spicy Aroma restaurant, the two establishments share the same building.We ordered the obligatory popadums, chutneys etc and several drinks.Having made our choices for mains, we waited and chatted over more drinks, whilst the food was prepared.When it arrived, the food was well worth the visit and one of our number, finished off with an ice cream and banana fritter.Robbie and the rest of the guys looked after us very well, the food was good and a very agreeable atmosphere.

I have to say this has to be the worst indian takeaway ive ever tasted and most of it was cold!!Im far from a fussy eater but £30 spent and threw it in the bin warranted me to write this complaint because when i rang afterwards the manager just laughed and put the phone down on me!!After speaking to friends they also give this place a wide berth just wish i knew this before ordering!!

Had a takeaway last nite and i have to say its the worst ive ever tasted...the naan bread was not cooked properly cold and stodgy...the bhagis again cold and very dry and as for the chips what a joke!!! My partner and i dont earn a lot so this is a fortnightly treat £25 thrown down the drain!! We normally choose another takeaway outside of churchdown but decided to give spicey aroma a try what a MASSIVE mistake...and im not normally one to make a fuss or complain but this warranted to type out this complaint..also rang up to complain to be met with the manager who was extremely rude and aggresive on the phone and just laughed and hung up..after speaking with freinds they say they allways give the place a wide birth after hearing reports of the enviromental health being called there on several occasions!!+++avoid at all cost++++

Decided to try the Spicy Aroma for the first time and we weren't disappointed. We had a take-away which was hot, delicious and full of flavour. In fact, this meal was one of the best curries we have ever had in Gloucester and was good value for money. I would thoroughly recommend t he Spicy Aroma.

I've been to spicy aroma many times over the years, first when it was at the bat and ball, and a couple of times since it's moved to the churchdown club. I live in churchdown so it's mainly for convenience over quality (spicy kalcutta in longlevens is only 10 mins away and significantly better, and the garlic in hucclecote is better for takeaways). I've always found the menu a little dull and service to be slow and attitude of staff to be generally quite poor with some exceptions. I took 4 kids for a meal there tonight, at a cost of nearly £100 and the level of service reached an all time low. They took over 30 minutes to even take an order despite numerous requests, took a further hour and a half to bring food, largely ignored us for drinks (beer and lemonade were very flat), got orders wrong, forgot things, tutted when this was pointed out and any attempt to ask a member of staff for anything was met with a very defensive response and we all felt like we were a huge inconvenience. Got a lecture when I asked for the 3rd time if we could could as you gets child was getting very hungry and bored. Others in the restaurant commented the same and were getting as frustrated as we were. My eldest had been there a couple of weeks before and said it was just as slow. At the end when I told the owner it had been a poor experience, he literally walked away as I was talking! I totally understand that it was busy and expect to wait a bit longer for food but my issue isn't really with the time taken but the dreadful customer service. At no time did they apologise or manage our expectations. Eventually, they gave us one extra poppadom by way of apology...what a joke!The spicy aroma have got complacent as they are the only Indian restaurant in churchdown and, in my view, it's always been overrated as local residents are just happy to have somewhere...anywhere....within walking distance. Personally, I won't go back unless I'm desperate (!) and would prefer a short drive to get a more exciting menu and staff that seem friendly and who appear to value the custom. Unfortunately, staff attitude of tends to start with the owner, and in this case, that spoke volumes as it sucked! I would only bother to write a review if I felt strongly either way (I'm not a serial reviewer!) but people need to be warned how awful this place is.

We have been ordering from Spicy Aroma since they opened a few years ago. Living in Churchdown its difficult to find an Indian restaurant of good quality that will delivery to us.I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal and the driver knows us so well he always brings chocolate for my daughter. The restaurant is 'high end' and always happy smiley faces. I would recommend the chicken tikka pathia, chilli bhuna, chilli balti and the jalfrezi. Their onion bhajis are the best I've ever tasted. Yum !

Spicy Aroma was situated next to the Bat and Ball Inn but has now moved across the road and situated within the Churchdown Club. It's not immediately obvious where it is upon your first visit. The resturant is now larger but the high standards are just the same. The waiters are friendly and helpful. The decor is modern and everything is spotlessly clean. I am a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to Indian resturants and this is definately one of my favourites. The quality of the food is superb and I have never had a bad meal there.

I was so impressed with the food and the service and the prices were very reasonable. You could taste each individual spice used it was incredible. I had the Ceylon curry it was truly amazing.I am going to take all my friends and family as they will truly love it.

We have recently moved in to the area and were in the process of trying out the local amenities. We'd already tried the Chinese and found it to be excellent, so the Indian was next, apparently in their brand new restaurant.The service was odd. It was like being served by a bunch of poorly trained solicitors. We arrived a couple of minutes after a couple on the next table, who were immediately offered drinks and popadoms, which instantly arrived. After a period of being ignored, someone did come to offer us the same, which we duly ordered at the same time stating that we were ready to order our mains, at which point he turned on his heels and walked off, never to be seen again. Someone did eventually arrive with the drinks etc., and take our order, and was followed over the next quarter of an hour so by a further three waiters who also wanted to take our order. The food arrived around twenty minutes or so later, and was lacklustre. It was tasty enough but generally only luke warm, which was a shame. The rice portions were very small, and the naan, only just about eatable. During the meal we must have been asked half a dozen times if things were OK, which always annoys me, and getting the bill seemed to be a mammoth undertaking.I was not too impressed with the overall experience and only hope that this was just a bad day, because the ambience was quite good. We will go back, but not for a while, until the teething troubles sort themselves out.Not the best of initiations...

Spicy Aroma has just moved over the road to the Churchdown Club. The décor is lovely with booths that can seat upto 8 people and great mood lighting. Very clean and modern looking setting. The drinks are from are brought through from the Club and are very reasonably priced. We ordered chicken chat and onion bhajis for starters and followed with Begum Behar and Achari Chicken (we can recommend these dishes, they were delicious). Portions sizes were more than enough. A great place to go on your own or with friends.

Spicy Aroma is local to us and we have visited many times. Delicious and reasonably priced food (they serve the best poppadums), well cooked and presented and plenty of choice on the menu. Vegetable balti or passanda is always excellent. Clean, professional and friendly restaurant and staff.I think the people who have given this one star should check out the facts. The hygiene rating as at 6 February 2013 was a three star (equal to the so-called award winning Indian Voojan in Cheltenham). Maybe those locals in the pub are trying to put people off because they also offer food? I feel Spicy Aroma offer higher quality food at a better price than many of the Indian restaurants in Cheltenham (and I have tried a lot). Their takeaways are excellent value too.
