What an absolute gem of an Indian restaurant. It would put most of London's well known Indian restaurants to shame. Staff are super friendly, attentive and offer a vintage style tablecloth setup that adds that nice touch to an already enjoyable service. The food is excellent with a range of curries to suite all tastes. Grilled meats like the lamb chops and chicken tikka are cooked to perfection and almost rival some of the top end London restaurants. Portions are generous and prices extremely reasonable. Definitely one of my favourite dinners out!

Second time we have been here, service is very good lovely young lads who serve, food is so tasty and flavourful Not a lover of service charge I think it’s up to you to leave a tip if you think it is worth it, not up to the restaurant and I didn’t see that until we had left the restaurant

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with my friend at the Spice Merchant in Cookham. The food was delicious as it was an afternoon tea with an Asian twist. The staff member Junaid was excellent! I highly recommend this place for its ambiance, excellent customer service and varied menu options. Would come again.

Absolutely superb curry, I cannot fault it.

The food was mostly excellent. I recommend the lamb shank, the fish platter as a starter was delicious but the white fish was overcooked and dry. Overall, it is not worth the £18 per head, albeit the manager pointed out that it was a per-person charge, The restaurant was underheated and cold, the tables small and the fancy plates too big for the tables, an unfortunate choice of form over function. I hate being oversold poppadums in Indian Restaurants and Spice Merchant is true to form.

A great little restaurant. The food is excellent. The service is perfect with there being enough staff around they still give you time to think whilst also being quick to serve your food. This is my third visit and myself and my team will be back. Excellent!

What a gem, fantastic food brilliant service and superb setting

Really fantastic food and a lovely change to usual traditional afternoon tea! Especially as vegetarians - there were great delicious options! Lovely atmosphere and great service too! Would definitely recommend! My only suggestion is, as an Indian afternoon tea I was disappointed that they didn’t serve real masala chai - we hope the next time we visit we can have properly brewed desi masala chai! This would make the afternoon tea perfect!

Tried to book afternoon tea here twice. Spoke to an extremely unhelpful and arrogant manager who answered my questions with a questions! Haven't tried this place and wouldn't want to after that :/

I have to say I was very surprised how bad my experience was with the Spice Merchant was. It started very badly with the food taking two hours to be delivered. This was after several calls over that period where we were told that the food was on its way and should be with us in five minutes. That was a bad start but the food was just as bad. The only saving grace were the starters of chicken & lamb lollipops which were tasty. The main courses were all very disappointing, lacking spice and flavour. They were also swimming in oil. The breads were also flavourless. I don’t like to give reviews like this but in this case it is well deserved especially as it was extremely expensive. £150 for five people. For that kind of money it should have been allot better. Worst curry I have had I recent memory!

Came out for dinner, fancied a curry, so chose here, lovely quaint setting,in the adorable village of Cookham, love hearts on table, attentive staff, good ambiance, food was fantastic, highly recommend The Tandoori lamb chops, which were marinated with subtle spices, the succulent meat just fell off the bone, price reflected the good quality food, will return

NOT WORTH THE PRICE Lentiles not cooked enough . Bland food Bad service . Asked for the bill and my husband still drinking his beer and the waiter came to change the table cloths . Bizzarr even though the restaurant was empty 😡 waste of money

Not as lovely as before,rude man takes us to a small table,thought seriously about leaving then, but was replaced by polite young man think they know his rude/others weren't happy,food good but not sure if want to go back,not that welcoming,didn't even say thank you as we were leaving which is rude,

Very attentive staff. My wife has a nut allergy and they cleaned the wok out just so there would be no cross contamination.

Unfortunately ruined by the so called manager “Sarwan” with his rude & unprofessional manner, you have to order starter & dinner together but fail to tell you, then ignore you. I think he hates people like himself (brown) whom I guess don’t frequent the restaurant & thinks speaking in his own language that others don’t understand (very mistaken) so overall our whole experience ruined by this person.

Great food and so different from the normal Indian. Love that they offer a great selection which was delicious. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Very friendly attentive staff too.

Highly overpriced for just OK food

The place/ staff seem a little disorganised but that's a casual observation. You go for the food right? The food was exceptional. There are famous restaurants serving good food. I've eaten in many, but this was amongst the best. A lot of Indian restaurant food is oily and then gives me acid reflux. This didnt and was a blessing. Would definitely eat there again and recommend that if you live close tbat it becomes your regular

Good food with huge onion bhaji and friendly staff

Food is delicious. Freshly cooked and good service. Wine by the glass and a bottle of sparkling water pretty expensive though.

Delicious Afternoon tea, would highly recommend

We went here for my mothers birthday. The team here went above and beyond to ensure she was comfortable (kept away from the air conditioning and provided a heater) (she’s very fussy!), and that we felt special with a complimentary drink and cake. The service was excellent, and the food was amazing. Highly recommended!

Large restaurant. Usual menu selection of food with 20+ specials. I've been in a few times over ten years and never been disappointed. Equal in standard to other establishments close by.

Excellent meal, two chef's specials plus three side dishes were all freshly cooked and very tasty. Well presented and great service. Having been to a couple of other Indian cuisine restaurants in Marlow and Cookham this is definitely the better option. Would highly recommend

Food was disgusting! Looked like a microwave meal. Something they have obviously frozen and just re warmed, it was stone cold when it turned up!!! Never again! It was that disgusting we through it in the bin

First visit. I called the day before to check what measures they had in place for being COVID-19 secure. The response was satisfactory. It was my first restaurant visit since COVID-19 started. There are appropriate measures in place. The staff are careful too. Upon my visit it gave me the assurance I needed and for once life felt normal again. The waiters were friendly. Seated us promptly. Tables are spread apart. Service was good. The Vegetarian Afternoon Tea was delicious. There is ample parking around if you know where to look nearby. The ambiance in the restaurant is nice. It’s a nice village type area in Maidenhead I haven’t come across before. Highly likely to visit again and recommend to others.

We visited for the first time last night as it had been recommended by friends of ours and it was amazing . Best meal out we have had this year. The worst Indian place I have ever been to. We arrived as per the booking at 8:30 and still had to wait for the table to become available. We asked for still water and they brought sparkling water twice. We ordered the starters but had to wait for an hour for the food to reach our table. The chicken wings were burnt but marinated so much so you couldn’t taste the black/burnt skin of the chicken. They said they had run out of Onion Bhajee, and they offered a very dry and tasteless Pakora which I could not eat. The Peshwari nan was black underneath, as I took a bite, I realised it tasted burnt and it was all black underneath. Overall the food tasted very bad and the service was really slow. They did not ask how the food was otherwise I would have told them on the night. Something wasn’t right that night as if the chef wasn’t in the kitchen! I do not recommend this place.

Visited today as 2 couples and I can honestly say this is one of the nicest Curry's I have ever had. The staff are great and they tick every box for covid preparedness, hand sanitizer on the way in, throw away menus, facemask, gloves they really have thought of everything and I felt completely comfortable the whole time. They have reduced table numbers significantly and the nearest table to you is well over the minimum mandatory. Everything Tandoori from this place is delicious I would recommend getting the Tandoori mixed starter, the Atlantic prawns & Lollypop chicken to share as a starter. For mains I have a lamb curry, aloo gobi & bread basket and all was incredible next time however I would go for more tandoori meats maybe the lb chops as the starter was spectacular. Can't wait to take friends and family back as know they will be blown away!

Fabulous Indian themed free flowing prosecco afternoon tea. The food was excellent, very generous portions (we took the excess home in containers). Fantastic value for money. This offer runs until the end of March and you pay a £10pp deposit. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Came for the Indian inspired afternoon tea and we were not disappointed. A good selection of buffet style Indian savouries followed by Indian sweet dishes including a mango lassi to die for. Finished off with warm Scones, and they didn't skimp on the jam and cream! The staff were helpful but not over attentive too. I can thoroughly recommend as a delicious alternative to afternoon tea.

For me this place is better than over the road at Maliks, which is pretentious and over priced. Spice Merchant never disappoints and last weekend we took some friends from the US who have travelled extensively and they said this was one of the best Indian restaurants they had been to. Service and food always very very good. We'll be back soon.

Great tasting food and brilliant service

So, so, so much better than the usual. Dishes really are made as they should be, not just small variations of the same thing. Some excellent flavours on offer. Staff are also very welcoming without being obsequious.

Wait for food bit slow but food top notch

So my sister highly recommended this place to us to the point where she ended up buying us Jasmine Afternoon Tea gift vouchers. My wife and I booked in for our afternoon tea today and unfortunately it was a little disappointing. Points to note: # There is limited parking around the restaurant as there is no dedicated parking for the restaurant. It took us a while to find parking but we eventually did on one of the side streets. # The afternoon tea was between 12pm – 3pm, we booked in for 1.30pm and started our afternoon tea. When the waiter brought over the food, the presentation looked great, however the portions were really small! I asked the waiter if this is it or can we order more food? Unfortunately the waiter said the Chef had gone home and left at 2pm! The Advertisement states between 12-3pm, yet what happens if you book in at 2? Do you have no chef? False advertising. # When my sister had gone for afternoon tea she had 2 extra items which were not given to us, Square grilled Paneer pieces and Onion Bhajis (Pakoras) were missing! It was a shame as there seems to be a lack of consistency as to what you get. #The clotted cream was runny and the scones were overheated! Unfortunately after our experience I would not recommend afternoon tea here, there are far better places to visit.

We went with a plan to have full dinner. But since food was not up to the expected standard we dropped our plans to order mains. But the restaurant manager forced us to order mains. Very much disappointed.

Last night i popped in and ordered a vindaloo with my wife and son, who had ordered sone thai food. Staff were absolutely brilliant and we shared a joke, when I got home the curry was absolutely sensational, great depth and heat also the saag paneer. After struggling to find a decent curry house for years in Maidenhead, I am delighted to have found Spice Merchant Thank you for the great experience....

Lovely afternoon tea, attentive service

Rude Staff as of today we rang to say we are running late due to traffic conditions and running an hour late, however we were told they were closing at 9.45pm as per the website it states Sunday closing at 11pm. When we asked who is speaking they denied saying why should I tell my name in improper English not qualified staff so we asked can we speak to the Manager and the person said he is the Manager. Very abrubtive and Rude behaviour we do not accept such behaviour to the Customers who give them business, we always loved going to this place but hence forth we will never go there and will convey the same to family and friends. I will take this on social media and post all the information on there.

Fabulous food and excellent service

Mixed starters stunning, BUT lamb dishes had four small pieces of meat, Madras was all wrong, no heat and more like a soup, both chicken dishes were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Drinks especially bottles of wine were way too expensive. Staff were attentive and service was very good but we won't be going back, the bill with service charge already taken just spoilt what was a really good evening.

This is a long established restaurant in the lovely setting of Cookham high street. The food is always good, and the atmosphere great. It is true also that you have a fair chance of spotting a celebrity here.

Extremely rude and aggressive staff including management and really poor service. If you want average good that's overpriced you at least expect good service
